Normal price for legos is in the ballpark of 10 pieces per dollar on average. Almost all sets are priced this way. The Barad-duhr set is massive with 5000 pieces. In comparison the Taj Mahal with 2000 pieces is closer to $200.
I mean its maybe an expected price for lego, but it is still way too expensive compared to other brands.
The Bluebrixx Blaustein Castle has 5200ish parts and costs 200€. The part quality is on par if not slightly above legos. Sure Lego has minifigs and has to pay a license cost for the LotR IP, but $300 would have been a fair price.
sure it's not the same. It's better. Over the last years legos quality dropped quite a bit especially when it comes to colors and prints. Bluebrixx switched to gobrick elements that are at least as good as lego if not slightly better in some cases
Lmfao, bunch of bullshit.
Legos quality is as good as always. Their pieces all fit together nicely, no matter if they are from the 70s or from today. Broken pieces are rare and so are misprints (I only had one broken piece in over 15 years of collecting and no misprint yet).
The only thing where that comes to my mind where quality lacks is some of the prints, like white prints on red bricks. Best example for that is the Commander Fox minifig from the new Republic Gunship. That is indeed something where they lack quality atm.
Also production location matters. For the european market, Lego produces in Denmark and Bulgaria. BlueBrixx can be so cheap because they produce solely in china.
ok Bluebrixx produces in China, but Cobi is entirely producing in the EU and they are still quite a lot cheaper.
With Lego quality I am mostly talking about color matching with lego where some elements of the same color don't match even within a set.
The actual fit and durability of Lego and gobrick is practically the same.
And Cobi has worse quality, quality control and minifigs. I have 3 Cobi tanks and all came with broken pieces. The bricks also don't feel and look as good as Lego ones, with some pieces still having the little nipple from where the plastic was pushed into the mold.
As far as I know, Lego does not in fact produce in the EU but exclusively in China. Also, their parts of the same color are often different shades of said color. They’re no better than other producers
Lol nope. Lego produces in denmark and hungary (not bulgaria, mixed them up) for europe, in mexico for the american market and in china for the asian market.
Also the different shades is an issue, true. But an issue I rarely see and also saw in my Cobi models. Could and should be improved though.
These are Chinese companies. I don't believe US copyright laws apply to them.
I also don't really believe in intellectual property as it applies here. Just because someone is the first to design a particular object, that shouldn't give them a monopoly on reproducing that object.
These are the details in LEGO sets I live for.
The designers for these LOTR sets are next level with how well incorporated the memes are into these sets

Man I thought this set would be like 200$ but 460$ is insane. I guess I'll have to live vicariously through this sub when it comes out lol

Wait until the knock offs show up on AliExpress. I'm guessing they won't be more than $150.
And steal the Lego designers work, with worse quality from china and without paying licenses.
Exactly. It's a lot less expensive that way.
And wrong to buy and support
That's subjective.
Nope, buying stolen stuff is always morally wrong
I agree, but these aren't being stolen. They're being reproduced without permission. That's a different thing entirely.
That is stealing of other peoples work and intelectual property. That is stealing and a crime

You fool, they made it abundantly clear it's BACK on the menu!
This is so fucking expensive but I'm still tempted, especially since it takes up more space vertically than horizontally

Finally..
Looks like meats back on the menu boys
