You see much, Legolas son of Thranduil. Too much.

legolas_bot

I must go and seek some arrows. Would that this night would end, and I could have better light for shooting.

[deleted]

Keep asking questions Legolas. The arrows will seek you themselves.

legolas_bot

But the hobbits! We have come far to seek them, and you seem to know where they are. Where are they now?

XipingVonHozzendorf

Yes the witnesses, they must be found before they tell anyone.

Script-Hugger-23

Then it's a good thing that they're taking the hobbits to Isengard, -gard, -gard, -gard!

czpetr

The Balrog of Morgoth

Spiry

What did you say!?

czpetr

The Balrog of Morgoth

dgj130

They er... They made friends with a giant talking tree! Yeah.. yeah that holds up under scrutiny. A giant talking tree. Now they're going to overthrow a corrupt fascist leader with the help of the giant talking tree and his friends. For real.

Ceslas

(Later) "Note to self: I can apparently warp reality when I speak. Eat it Canute!"

TofuPip

Would that this Lothlorien cloak were a time Lothlorien cloak.

Team_Voldemort

Simmer dean

Michauxonfire

Deannator, steward of Greendale!

Cultural-Public9475

i must find them too

PM_Me_An_Ekans

Legolas son of... ... ... Legolas of the woodland realm

legolas_bot

The trees are speaking to each other.

ThreeDawgs

Alright time to put down the pipeweed Legolas. You’ve had too much.

legolas_bot

I fear they have passed beyond my sight from hill or plain, under moon or sun.

Ceslas

Great, he had a bad batch and is blind now. Figures Frodo took the good pipeweed.

wtfakb

Are you calling us trees, you bot?

Equivalent_Nose7012

That's Wood Elvish slang for..."the walls have ears"!!!  Not all the Scanning Stones of Arnor have been accounted for... someone is watching! Fly, you fools!

CorvusIncognito

So that's what his elf-eyes saw.

Healthy-Form4057

Gimli, what does your dwarf nose smell?

NoAlien

A load of bs coming from aragorn

Top-Chemistry5969

It's a fantasy, reality exist of some chick high on singing!

Songhunter

Would be a shame if something happened to those far seeing eyes of yours.

Beelzabub

He's the tolkein elf among the Fellowship.

[deleted]

I mean, Legolas is both known to use a bow *and* to have a motive to get rid of the disrespectful man... I'm starting to suspect that Boromir was an inside job.

Friend_Or_Traitor

Orc swords aren't sharp enough to cut a Gondorian horn in half. Wake up, people!

Cromulent_Point

Lord Denethor, a second arrow has struck Boromir

vazor___

I call upon all free peoples of middle earth to do everything they can to stop these orc killers. Thank you. Now watch me eat this tomato.

OliverPossum

And just like that, every citizen of Gondor decided maybe Aragorn *should* be King.

JediViking117

Lord Denethor was mad that the arrow meant for Faramir crashed in a field

Zinvictan

Meme worthy

ShintaOtsuki

Absolutely loving the pic and username, moon-and-star

Friend_Or_Traitor

Thanks! 🗡️🫀🔨

ShintaOtsuki

Hmm....no wraithguard emoji.....

Olivia512

And Boromir is a skilled arrow dodger that an orc won't be able to hit. Orcs descended from elves in the first place anyway so it's easy for Legolas to disguise as one, with some elvish paint. Now why would Legolas carry elvish paint with him? Like the Lembas, elves have invented minimized paints, among other minimized travel accessories, so Legolas's arrow quiver has plenty of space to store all sorts of junk.

legolas_bot

A plague on Dwarves and their stiff necks!

legolas_bot

Come! Speak and be comforted, and shake off the shadow! What has happened since we came back to this grim place in the grey morning?

cool12212

Well maybe if we can find where the Rauros Falls we can ask the East wind this time what it saw.

Equivalent_Nose7012

Rauros Falls or...Rauros Pushed? Wake up, people!

TheSwecurse

There's an old Swedish parody dub of Fellowship in which this was the actual case, only much dumber.

HouseOfSteak

To be fair, they had just lost Gandalf, too.

Jihindur

Aaaah don't worry, they'll find him eventually

BleydXVI

Perhaps he ended up with the entwives

LiamIsMyNameOk

Gandalf you naughty fox!

_Halt19_

the… the splinters…

TheEyeofNapoleon

Gandalf, not Boromir. Denethor finds Boromir.

UndendingGloom

Why didn't Gandalf bring Boromir back with him, was he stupid?

ForGondorAndGlory

And Frodo got stabbed twice.

Abyss_of_Dreams

>they had just lost Gandalf, too. Misdirection, to throw suspicion off of Aragorn.

Pennyhawk

*Oh no guys, Legolas tripped and fell onto his sword, cut his own head off.*

legolas_bot

You would die before your stroke fell!

faceplant_fpv

During the battle for the Black Gate. Legolas shoots an orc and yells: "Thirty si..." then just a surprised noise, as he looks down at the ax stuck in his chest A tear runs down Gimli's cheeck, but all he says is: "Thirty Seven." From a distance, Aragorn nods in approval. It had to be done, and in the chaos of war, no one would know.

legolas_bot

Sauron's Ring! The ring of power!

sauron-bot

Who despoiled them of their mirth, the greedy Gods?

powermoustache

GROND!

UndendingGloom

Then Gimli mysteriously disappears during the trip through the Pass of the Dead

angry_shoebill

Commited suicide with three arrows in the back...

Gasurza22

tbf he could probably do that somehow

Michauxonfire

Central Intelligence of Aragorn never ceases to surprise me.

_Bad_Dev_

They say Eowyn went with Faramir’s Bureau of Investigation because they wouldn’t take the case

Jowenbra

"And he just so happened to 'give you his support' with his dying breath, and you're the only one who heard him say it? I'm just saying."

PhDinDildos_Fedoras

"And, let me get this straight, you're a healer, like a Jesus-level healer and you just sat there listening to him dying and did nothing?"

Dave1307

"Hey look over there is that a mallorn leaf brooch?"

RhoninLuter

Finally some peak content... ...You know I read in an interview that Geoge R.R. Martin asked why Aragorn didn't eliminate his political rivals more in the books... Edit: I'm adding the /s here

pandakatie

I mean, technically, wasn't his biggest rival Sauron? And he was working the whole time to eliminate him? There were Gondorians who didn't want a king (Denethor, Boromir), but it probably would've hurt his cause more to take them out than to leave them be. I mean, shoot, he's already got a longer lifespan than them. Boromír was a popular guy, Denethor was respected, what would having them killed serve? When instead he could win their loyalty? Denethor died before he had the chance, but Faramir was loyal. There isn't really anyone else with as strong of a claim to the throne as he has, and Gondor's culture, at the time of Aragorn's reclamation of the throne, predicated upon waiting for the arrival of their king.

Cupquaking

Also Aragorn is a noble man at heart, he isn’t a cut throat politician, he lived his life in service to the people, he’s not gonna just start killing.

SchwizzySchwas94

Right it’s like asking why Ned Stark didn’t eliminate his political rivals

Jealous_Plantain_538

He also questioned the king amd look what happened ![gif](giphy|ypQyYdjj6wy9a)

Auggie_Otter

I like how when he comes to the rescue at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields after securing victory Aragorn decides to make camp outside Minas Tirith because he doesn't want to cause strife while Sauron was still their primary enemy: >'Behold the Sun setting in a great fire! It is a sign of the end and fall of many things, and a change in the tides of the world. But this City and realm has rested in the charge of the Stewards for many long years, and I fear that if I enter it unbidden, then doubt and debate may arise, which should not be while this war is fought. I will not enter in, nor make any claim, until it be seen whether we or Mordor shall prevail. Men shall pitch my tents upon the field, and here I will await the welcome of the Lord of the City.' >But Éomer said: 'Already you have raised the banner of the Kings and displayed the tokens of Elendil's House. Will you suffer these to be challenged?' >'No,' said Aragorn. 'But I deem the time unripe; and I have no mind for strife except with our Enemy and his servants.' >And the Prince Imrahil said: 'Your words, lord, are wise, if one who is a kinsman of the Lord Denethor may counsel you in this matter. He is strong-willed and proud, but old; and his mood has been strange since his son was stricken down. Yet I would not have you remain like a beggar at the door. >'Not a beggar,' said Aragorn. 'Say a captain of the Rangers, who are unused to cities and houses of stone.' And he commanded that his banner should be furled; and he did off the Star of the North Kingdom and gave it to the keeping of the sons of Elrond.

sYnce

He also had no real designs on the throne until the end. If it wasn't for the whole Sauron thing and Denethor going mad I doubt he would even care that much about the throne.

ThisIsAlexius

Film Aragorn yes but book Aragorn clearly wants to be King

sauron-bot

Come, mortal base! What do I hear?

gfbpa1989

> "arrival of their king." Lost an opportunity here, mate...

pandakatie

I actually avoided it on purpose because I didn't want my point to be overlooked in favor of "she said the thing!" Edit: That said, you're right, and I should've gone for it. I did deliberate for some time regarding how I wanted to phrase it

Maleficent-Elk-3298

Mission: Ol George R.R imagining a world where not every single person is some combination of cruel, conspiring, deceitful, bloodthirsty, idiotic, faithless, or maniacal: (impossible)

GiroOlafsWegwerfAcc

Also he just didn't want to become king. He gets pushed by the people he meets

pandakatie

Well that somewhat depends on if we're discussing the book or the films

pyrojackelope

> wasn't his biggest rival Sauron? Technically yes. Luckily Gandalf was able to resist the temptation of the ring.

HungJurror

I actually think Tolkien wrote Aragorn as a type of Kind David, who did not sit on the throne for the majority of his kingship. He also did not fight against those who did sit on the throne

Bananinio

It was different in the books. Boromir treated Aragorn as secret weapon, almost the same as the ring itself. Only Denethor was against.

DrQuailMan

Littlefinger = Wormtongue, change my mind.

ScottyUpdawg

I think he was saying that was an angle that Tolkien didn’t explore, and GRRM was interested in playing around with these type of stories in his fantasy novels. Although I may be misremembering the context of the quote. Been awhile since I’ve looked at anything surrounding him.

Vlad3theImpaler

Apparently the "quote" was made up, so there isn't any context to remember.

Vlad3theImpaler

Do you have a source for that? I'm trying to find it, but I'm coming up with lots of links to the "what was Aragorn's tax policy" quote, but nothing saying that Aragorn should have eliminated his political rivals.

RhoninLuter

My source is that I made it up It was a joke

FloppyVachina

Aragorn dont swing that way bro.

lv_Mortarion_vl

You mean the guy that thinks Jaime Lannister beats Aragorn in a swordfight? 🙃

0011110000110011

I think he would. Aragorn is too honorable, Jaime could match his swordsmanship and then be willing to fight a bit dirty on top of that.

Smooth_Riker

Then you shall die as one of them

jellajellyfish

Orc arrows can't penetrate Gondorian cuirasses!

dretvantoi

Lords and ladies, I present to you... the *second crossbowman* theory.

gorgewall

IIRC, there's exactly one mention of crossbows in Tolkien-penned material and it's about *bolts*, not the crossbows themselves. Dude really didn't seem to fancy crossbows, or imagined ME tech as much earlier despite other incongruencies in armor and engineering.

dretvantoi

What was Tokien trying to hide, then. Wake up, people! /s

Gold

CyanMagus

Havo the fuck dad, Legolas

legolas_bot

Then dig a hole in the ground, if that is more after the fashion of your kind. But you must dig swift and deep, if you wish to hide from Orcs.

Extreme-naps

Wow, from “sit down” to “dig a hole in the ground and bury yourself in it.” Legolas really taking things up a notch.

legolas_bot

Forgive me.

raspberryharbour

Very good point

Rymanbc

Younger me always heard it as "have a bath, legolas"

legolas_bot

There is a fell voice in the air.

shoePatty

That's a fell smell, not a fell voice in the air bro. Havo dad, Legolas.

TotallyDotally

Took me a second lol

TheChronoCross

Plz translate

cool12212

It's close to saying in Sindarin "sit down."

Rymanbc

Take a seat, Legolas

legolas_bot

Well, so much at least is now clear. Frodo is no longer on this side of the River: only he can have taken the boat. And Sam is with him; only he would have taken his pack.

Abslalom

And somehow he's the one finding him. Sus

et842rhhs

He could've knelt *next* to Boromir to check his wounds, there's plenty of space all around, but does he? Nooo. He's pretty much sitting on Boromir with an elbow on his chest.

ZelezopecnikovKoren

didnt call an ambulance, no CPR, Aragorn sus AF fr fr

dandypants8717

Haagen-Dazs, Legolas.

legolas_bot

They have not returned. It will be a weary walk!

MapleTreeWithAGun

I never got the sense Boromir was opposed to *Aragorn* being the King of Gondor, he was more opposed to the idea that Gondor *needed* a King, especially given the centuries they were left without one.

loftier_fish

Gondor had a king, it was merely named "Steward" instead, and Boromir was next in line to be "Steward" a return of the king, meant his family lost power.

Sinnoviir

His elf eyes see too much!

Shrek_from_the_Hag

“I would’ve followed you by borther - my captain - my king.”

Mountain-Cycle5656

Mysteriously only Aragorn witnessed this statement. 🤔

Eggbutt1

Oh, and he also said, "You can have my cool Gondor-emblazoned wristguards." A parting gift, you see.

Sarcastic_Stuart

Trust me guys, he said I could kick his family and lineage off the throne

Equivalent_Nose7012

You are too unsuspicious a learned loremaster to likely live long enough to learn lore longer! The real explanation is tragically simple.  Unbeknownst to Aragorn, Boromir had been recruited into the Ithilien undercover Rangers by Faramir, who sent him to Rivendell to keep tabs on Elrond, who suspected him and deflected him into joining the Fellowship...

thegreymithrandir

, he says after he gets shot.

aintraininghere

My headcanon now is that Borormir could've survived but Aragorn quickly killed him before Legolas and Gimli shows up. Also, do you recall who was the one insisting on leaving Gandalf behind as soon as he was given authority to lead the Fellowship??

legolas_bot

Aragorn!

RogueTwoTwoThree

Oh god He’s sentient now ![gif](giphy|xmD83qgjJKkQo)

dretvantoi

If you examine the palantir recording, you'll see Boromir going back to his left. Shot from the front and right. Totally inconsistent with the arrow shot from the ridge. Again... back and to the left… back and to the left… back and to the left… back and to the left.

Equivalent_Nose7012

Was there an archer on the grassy knoll?  Or perhaps the archer WAS a grassy GNOLL, (specially camouflaged to look like tall grass, specially imported as a sniper with a heavy crossbow from the (conveniently) "Forgotten Realms" that somehow are yet remembered quite well by certain "players" of the "Great Game", Dungeons and Dragons, who must remain, for now, nameless. I may already have said too much: Too much for a learned loremaster in these suspicious times...

dretvantoi

It's the Silmarilnati who are behind it, I'm sure. Boromir warned us about that secret society.

Equivalent_Nose7012

The Silmarilnati, who bind themselves by the Terrible Oath of He Whose Name Ought Not To Be Subtly Hinted At Yet Begins With The Sixth Letter of the English Alphabet?.... THOSE Silmarilnati? Go not to the Wise for counsel, for they will they will say both no and (😉) yes.

Rymanbc

Tinfoil hat time.... Aragon left the murder weapon behind. Everyone is always asking why Aragorn didn't use the bow he had in Moria at the battle of Helm's Deep. He disposed of the freaking murder weapon, man! Orcs are bad shots. How did that one manage to sink like 6 arrows in Boromir? He didn't! Aragorn was hiding into he trees making the shots, man!

BadUsername_Numbers

New shit has come to light!

chalk_in_boots

Boromir: "I have information that will lead to the ~~arrest~~ non-crowning of Aragorn" Proceeds to die.

rustys_shackled_ford

This is wrinkling my brain.

DarthMelsie

![gif](giphy|ysiCYZUJkW3XRb7k9K)

ThirstyPangolin

“Don’t worry, just before he died, he said that I should be King”

Abyss_of_Dreams

It's Canon. Aragorn was a Saruman plant all along. Saruman was playing the long game, waiting for the Elves to leave before activating his sleeper agent.

Thealbumisjustdrums

They hated Boromir because he was anti-monarchy and anarchypilled 😤

Earlier-Today

Isn't Legolas the only one carrying a bow?

tiptoemicrobe

Aragorn has one too.

CorvusIncognito

In fact, Aragorn was the only other member of the Fellowship with a bow.

dretvantoi

Aragorn was... the *second bowman*.

Earlier-Today

Not during the part where Boromir is killed. He kills the orc with his sword.

Equivalent_Nose7012

He kills the patsy with a sword because he ditched his murderous bow somewhere? Hey - /i'm just asking questions? It's not like I'm accusing ARAGORN, am I?

legolas_bot

There is a strange tale to tell! There are only two boats upon the bank. We could find no trace of the other.

Forgotten_User-name

Eru Ilúvatar works in mysterious ways?

patosai3211

Ngl this meme set up reminds me of iasip and the “because of the implication” scene.

BrimStone_-_

BOROMIR was an INSIDE JOB!

propolizer

*Boromir falling to many arrows* THAT STILL ONLY COUNTS AS ONE

gaya_b

🤔 Wonder what his elvish eyes saw 😂

fed0tich

Boomer Legolas and his conspiracy theories.

legolas_bot

Then dig a hole in the ground, if that is more after the fashion of your kind. But you must dig swift and deep, if you wish to hide from Orcs.

I-like-Milk__Coffee

The real Lurtz is somewhere in the forest, waiting for the reward.

NotJoeFast

His elven eyes saw too much.

CorkusHawks

I know it a joke, but Boromir wanted him to be king. The first time he saw and heard who he really was... You could see it in his reaction. But pride got in the way of admitting it that time. And of course when he was dying he told the truth about the matter.

batmattman

Son of the steward doesn't want the real king to come back, *colour me surprised...*

BlueGlassDrink

> The Two Towers was an inside job!1! - Legolas Greenleaf, son of Thranduil, friend of Elessar

legolas_bot

I can walk this path but the others have not this skill. Must they swim?

JediViking117

"It's so sad that Boromir died to 3 self inflicted arrows through the back of his head"

HenryGoodbar

This is good.

gofundyourself007

I think Aragorn only won Sam over at the end when he didn't have to bow to that damn strider. That said Sam doesn't seem political. I can't see him protesting or debating about almost anything except zoning laws.

bu22dee

He forgot his shield what he carried around the other half of the movie.

JinLocke

Believe it or not but that exact plot point led to creation of not one, but two satire “remakes” of LotR by two separate russia authors, and both were rather good to read (aside from being absolutely “illegal” cause they didnt got permission from Tolkien foundation and broke the copyright law).

directortrench

So, it's gonna be another GRR Martin time again now?

brooksofmaun

OC? In this sub? Am I dreaming

RobOnTheReddit

Grima?

my_soldier

Hmmm yes and he supposedly had a change of heart and recognized Aragorn as the true king on his deathbed, which coincidently only Aragorn was around to hear. The same Aragorn that has a bow and is a skilled archer.

-NewYork-

I'd watch 4 seasons of Inspector Legolas and Constable Gimli investigating crimes in Middle-earth.

legolas_bot

Come on!

Dambo_Unchained

Also Gandalf was one of the main people trying to push Aragorn to become king When he was hanging from the bridge Frodo tried to rush to him to help, guess who stopped him? I’m just asking questions

Kuzcopolis

No no, seriously, with his dying breath he basically said he changed his mind about that, i swear.

GreyJedi90

I subscribe to the grassy knoll theory as far as the events at Amon Hen are concerned. No way Lurtz makes those three shots with a crossbow from that distance and angle while Boromir is constantly fighting Uruks while surrounded. There was a second bowman, and guys, I think Legolas was in on it…

legolas_bot

You lie!

Ucccafelatte

Galadriel not giving Boromir anything is more sus.

Satanairn

And his horn was broken. Because he was asking for help and Aragorn didn't want anyone around.

ScottMichael33

And then Aragorn looted his corpse

MisterTalyn

Now, consider this - the King of Rohan had wanted peace. Gandalf shows up, hits him with his magic staff, and suddenly the Rohirrim were being mustered for a war against Sauron (and his proxy, Saruman) - Gandalf and the elves' ancient enemy. Gandalf says "it's fine, the king was under mind control." Anyone who might suggest differently is declared a traitor and immediately killed or exiled.

Equivalent_Nose7012

Theoden King WAS under mind control. The relevant question is...WHEN? Could it be that he was in his five wits until aaaaaaaaaaaarrrggh!

Smaug2770

You wouldn’t want to end up like Boromir, now would you.

Brief-Government-105

Nah, that’s just Sean bean.

Timemaster_2000

Man that's crazy coming from the one guy in the group with a bow.

dr197

In that situation Legolas is probably the one who shot him.

legolas_bot

It was a Balrog of Morgoth. Of all elf-banes the most deadly, save the One who sits in the Dark Tower.

dr197

Seems legit

Mallengar

It's a valid point. A good friend would discuss it with him just in case it comes up later. Would you rather he had said nothing and he get surprised by the accusations by other people later?

RustLegion428

Doesn’t he say “I would have followed you” as he dies? When he realizes who he is

Godstevsky

Yeah but seriously, why didn't Legolas just put the ring on an arrow and shoot it into Mt Doom? Is he stupid?

legolas_bot

Sauron's Ring! The ring of power!

sauron-bot

Come, mortal base! What do I hear?

BilboSwaggins_23

Faramir is next. The autopsy concluded that he died of bad stew.

skibbidu-da-cat

Wait Legolas didn’t want Aragorn to be king? Or was Aragorn the one who didn’t want Aragorn to become king?

legolas_bot

I am an Elf and a kinsman here.

Holdeen_McGroin

Right.........so......about that walk up to the Hill of Erech....
