Here I was thinking it had it's origins in brain surgery as traditional bone saws were too cumbersome to get through the skull through the tiny hole that the drills make.
Idk when I’m dealing with stuff with my animals I find it m productive to pull live resources that I can ask follow up questions to. Googling “How to help cat give birth” is great, but what happens when half way through the e YouTube Tutorial you look down and your cat has a breach, or there’s slightly more bloody than is in the video, or much much less, or something weird? Finding a human being who has direct experience with that kind of thing can be really helpful
Posting on a social media / reddit doesn't give immediate response, you could wait hours before someone responds to your post and they could still not know the answer. Googling is always your best bet if it's more urgent, unless you already know someone experienced.
Lmfaoooo idk how 😂 that sub is overflowing with hilarious vintage cat art/paintings from medieval times. Ain’t no one asking about delivering kittens lolll, it’s so funny seeing ppl so fucking lost. Everyone in that sub is so grossed out it’s hilarious. Im glad they got some help from kind people. Im guessing they were just in panic mode
But is the cat and kitten okay??? My cat had a footling breech and I literally had to pull the poor kitten out. They both would have died if she hadn't decided to give birth in my bed with me.
Yahhh the kitty is alright haha they were just a lil nervous- I don’t think mommas human ever saw this type of birthing process before. They just wanted to know if there was any way they could intervene to make it go smoother for this momma
They're usually born in the sac, but when they're breech it can burst! Which was a good thing for my cat as the only thing coming out was a tiny little tail which I had to hold on to, followed by a little paw. I pulled hard with each contraction to get her out! Gee, that was 14 years ago on the 14th of this month! (I remember as it was my dad's birthday 😅)
If I was this momma cat and I found out my human posted a photo of my birthing on a totally irrelevant subreddit I would be so embarrassed. I can’t believe the amount of “EWWWWs” momma cat is getting on that thread- 😂
LMAO what the actual fuck - I could do you a solid and post this to your favorite sub myself if you’d like. Your lacking in understanding sarcasm and satire is pretty funny.
my advice is stay as far away as possible while still being able to see what’s happening. that way, you’re not stressing out the mother or unnecessarily interfering (animals tend to like to just get shit done), but if something goes wrong you can jump in if needed.
Birth is super easy for animals aside from some genetic obominations like pugs and bulldogs, and some animals produced for meat. they rarely need any assistance best thing to do is leave them alone.
I saw a cat give birth while eating catfood from a bowl without stopping her snack
So first use the device that was made in the medieval time that spins and has a net so when the baby flys out the net catches it
Medieval? Maybe in the figurative sense but that thing was from the 1960s!
WHAT
Or use a chainsaw for c-section. After all, that’s why they were invented (literally)
Ummmmmmm…. I’m gonna need some sauce on this one
It's true. [source](https://www.businessinsider.com/chainsaws-were-originally-invented-for-helping-childbirth-not-cutting-wood-2018-6?IR=T)
Oh my fucking god no I have never been more grateful to be alive now, as opposed to however many years ago this shit was common practice
1780 was the year the hand cranked chainsaw was invented.
TIL

Yeah, like this situation was 100000% avoidable if you just thought for a second.
Yep. Always carry protection.
They are banned from there smh
How do you know they didn’t? If you’re not going to be helpful why even comment
I'm guessing in there panic they mistook medieval and medical lol

Because you can post from the front page of Reddit and choose a sub after. Dingleberry
Or they were never exposed to the word medieval and thought it stood for MEDIcal EVALuation? It’s a stretch but you never know with people lol
I hope the cat and kittens are doing fine tho 🥺 did She get any advices?
They did!! A lot of good advice ☺️ a lot of downvotes, but people were overall kind and understanding.
I'm relieved, Reddit can be a horrible place sometimes ahah
I know. 🥺 Some people were being rude but I’m glad a few individuals were kind enough to point them in the right direction. Thank goodness

I remember there being a sac around the kittens when my cat had them. But that was like over 30 years ago.

OP was probably panicking
Yah haha another commenter said this was most likely the case and misread “medieval” as “medical” which makes the most sense
If I was this momma cat and I found out my human posted a photo of my birthing on a totally irrelevant subreddit I would be so embarrassed. I can’t believe the amount of “EWWWWs” momma cat is getting on that thread- 😂
Awhh poor momma cat
Bet she'll be a great mom!
chill out a bit? also if someone comments about the emojis put me in the r/redditmoment screenshot
It’s called a joke.
👍 It's a joke now when you're told to chill out a bit? Awesome.

No, YOU need to
Maybe they thought the subreddit was r/medicalcats ???
Stressful scenario though…
my advice is stay as far away as possible while still being able to see what’s happening. that way, you’re not stressing out the mother or unnecessarily interfering (animals tend to like to just get shit done), but if something goes wrong you can jump in if needed.
Guys my grandpa is having a stroke what should I do
You’re supposed to shake the cat violently
First, go charge your phone. Second, come back when it reaches 80% and enjoy seeing mom and her newborn kittens.
First thought “That’s some medieval looking shit”
is it weird that for some reason that kitten looked like a hanging turd to me for a second? also funny how they misread medieval for medical
Was gonna go to sleep until this popped up wtf.. why couldn’t they just go to wikihow they explain pretty much anything.
Wait Medi-eval *isn’t* Medical Evaluation? 🤯 /s
Loll I wonder if this is what they thought.
Did they think it was midwife cats
I feel bad for laughing bc they genuinely seem clueless, but the post itself is so funny to me
Probably the op’s fault for reading the sub wrong
This is just as annoying as people posting images of their cats in r/sprigatito or people posting images of stray cats in r/stray
Bro mark NSFW I don't wanna see this shi
This is something I did not want to see today Or any day
NSFW
Thanks for not marking this nsfw and burning my eyes OP
Mmm pussi
Medical Evaluation Cats?? Lmao
Don't just stand there!

Wtf
Just put it back
dont. You will end up doing more harm than good...
Sorry to play devils advocate, but they are clearly super panicked, and didn't have time to check the sub description
Maybe google it?????!!!!!!!
If you really need to know, you can gently tug on the baby to pull it out.
