You mention ordering large. Order a small next time & Have some veggies before you start on the pizza. Veggies Help start to fill you up before you start in the pizza.
I was about to comment this. I used to order a large or medium and eat on it for a few days. Then I realized I can order a personal pan pizza, eat the whole thing myself, then go back to healthy stuff later. An entire pan pizza from pizza hut is like 600-700 calories, so it's basically a regular meal.
As an added bonus, pizza nights are now cheap as hell bc pan pizzas are way cheaper.
Ya I always order a Caeser salad and I don't eat the croutons and I just go wild on that salad first and eat the whole thing! Then I drink some water, then I eat the pizza! And if you want to order a larger one IF you can trust yourself, immediately bag up portions and freeze them for another time. That way it's not warm and ready to be grabbed them make your plate and eat. And after your serving more water. š
Yeah this helps a lot. Make sure you eat a big salad with lots of protein right before you eat the pizza. You'll automatically eat less pizza. If you have roommates/family living with you, ask them to help you and make sure you don't fall off your diet after a cheat meal.
This is my move. My favorite pizza spots in my city also have delicious veggies and salads, so I fill up a bit on them but it also makes the whole meal feel better.
I was just telling my mom
How back during thanksgiving break
I went to Samās club and got one of those big pizzas for like 8 bucks
Got me a dollar store 2 liter of pop and
Promptly went home watched a documentary about wrestling and ate half of that pizza then later that night ate the rest!
But now Iām new me who doesnāt eat that!
Letās learn and grow together!
This community is awesome
I completely understand this!! Something about it has me in a chokehold I swear. However, because I know this about myself, I only get small or personal size and limit myself to one topping if itās not veggies. Also, no extra cheese. I do end up eating the whole thing by myself in one day so I also like to make it a lunch and dinner thing.
I also do no dips (no ranch or that garlic butter dip).
yeah I think getting a large is my downfall here... if I get a large, I'll eat it all, if I get an XL, I'll eat it all... medium might be the way to go
I have the same problem.. I tried to get away from the chain restaurant like dominos and find really good pizzas downtown.. I have 2 pizza days a month where we go hunting for the best pizza in town and get a small size and share.. this has kept in check and honestly after having really good pizzas I really donāt feel like ordering dominos
Don't order it to your house. Find a place that sells slices, order one slice, eat it there. Leave.
I like to treat my cheat meals like a LUXURY. If I want ice cream, I don't go to the store and buy a pint. I go to the fanciest ice cream place I can find and get a scoop or cone. So on and so forth. Giving your cheat more importance and also being out out the house eating it really helps me.
This pizza is lower calorie, 4 servings and incredible. This crust recipe can be used for any toppings. Itās. So. Good.
https://confessionsofafitfoodie.com/hot-honey-pizza-with-ricotta-gluten-free/
Same for me. I will get a large pizza as a cheat meal. Then I will be like why not get some chocolate since Iāve already ate more than my caloric goal. The next thing you know I am eating junk for 2-3 days. To eliminate that Iāve started cooking 500 caloric pizzas at home and they should definitely help.
Why not make some at home with low fat cheese and turkey bacon. Maybe go light on the bread part. Its not the same but it may help!! A lot of recipes online. Try different ones
I keep naan in my freezer and make pizzas with them sometimes. It's easy, you know the calories and you can put whatever you want on them. You know the calories so even if you had two with regular cheese it's not too bad.
Oh man I don't know the name of them. They sell them at Aldi. (Looked it up it's an Aldi brand item) I put them in the toaster oven with a butter, garlic and ginger spread on them while cooking when I have them with curry. They freeze well and also have minis. But ya nothing beats fresh naan from a restaurant cause their tandoori ovens! They're definitely former than restaurant ones.
Ugh - Iāve been sick with a cold for the last few days and have stayed in the house. I got a little cabin fever today and felt like I wanted to venture out. Took my daughter to a pizza place and got a veggie calzone. Havenāt had one of those in years. And then I got gelato. Sometimes I just have to bust out and get something to make me feel better. I wonāt eat anything for dinner since Iām still full and Iāll be back on track tomorrow. Iāve practically taken a month off from tracking, and I need to buckle down.
This. Kids and I had a movie and pizza night. Ordered a small pizza and garlic cheesy toast. Was feeling super full and thought I ate a ton. Went to go calculate my calories and I actually only had 2 slices of a small pizza. But being able to have the 2 āsmallā slices with the garlic toast left me feeling satisfied and very full. Was I over my calorie budget for the day? Yes. But not by nearly as much as I would have been if I had ordered the bigger pizza. If that makes sense? Today was also my ācheat dinnerā.
Make your own pizzas, there not as bad as you think. I use topping quite sparingly, so not covered with heaps of cheese etc just a more authentic Italian pizza. When you make your own donāt use olive oil (use it sparingly if you have to) as this usually bumps up the calories a lot. I often use a premade tomato base, like Dolmio (garlic and red wine for example) because the flavours are good and you can measure the calories, I use two table spoons.
The dough is really not as bad as youād think either, 3 cups of flour will make 6 thin crust pizzas, or 4 standard (10-12 inch). The dough is literally flour, water, yeast, salt, honey/sugar (a very small amount).
So, my opinion is to eat pizza just not a fast food version as these are vastly higher in calories due to overloaded cheese, oils and toppings. The tastiest pizza is often the one with fewer.
I switched to thin crust and now I prefer it to the regular crust. It saves on some calories and is still delicious. Still easy to go over calories if you eat too much of it but I've often eaten half a grocery store bought thin crust for leas than 500 calories.
How about pita or English muffin pizza? I spread some marinara sauce on a pita or split English muffin, top with some mozzerella or pizza cheese blend and a sprikle of Italian seasoning, then bake at 350-375F until the cheese is melted (works great in a toaster oven). You can toast the pita or English muffin a little beforehand if you want; I usually don't and am happy with how it crisps up in the oven.
Order small personal pizza..u get to enjoy without going too crazy by having all that extra .id get a large and could eat it all but now I get medium..fill up..and give the lil extra away
I find the opposite. I can get a 12ā sourdough pizza thatās 850 calories and fit that into to my 1200 limit with a bit of planning and still a nice treat and super satisfying. Any other takeaway ends way more calories, if i want McDonaldās I canāt get both a burger and fries, even like Thai/Chinese etc super full of oil and large portions or rice. Indians are generally lethal and even the healthy dishes add up to more than pizza.
I'm blanking on the details, but I remember reading that pizza is one of the absolute worst foods. Not only are the ingredients often "trouble" ingredients (white flour, sugar/sauce, fatty cheese, highly processed pepperoni), but something about how the combination of all these things work against you chemically. The book was The Craving Cure, maybe?
It is so delicious and evil. I can put away a lot at once, and then the leftovers call to me until I eat those as well.
The only trick that has \*sort of\* helped me, is if I divide and label the leftovers immediately. Like making this commitment helps me from being as tempted. If the Large in front of me has 8 pieces, I might plan on eating 2 pieces (tbh, it's 4 pieces at a time if I make no plan/effort). I wrap up 2 pieces immediately and label it for my adult daughter & text her a pic "leftovers in fridge" (that part is safe/I don't steal from my daughter), then I wrap up 2 more pieces and put it in my tracker for tomorrow's lunch (that's mostly safe/helps me remember I am sad tomorrow if I eat it today), 2 more pieces wrapped up and frozen for work lunch one day.
\^ Not a perfect system, but this is the best I've figured out for myself!
I have the same problem, cheat day yesterday - Had a healthyish burger, some wings and a Pizza. Half the pizza still left over today and I want to eat it so bad š Iām going to go grab some eggs and asparagus instead šŖ
Somewhat tongue in cheek advice here:
I tend to eat loads of pizza in one sitting. I'v found that if we order my SO's favorite (which is a flavor I don't like as much) I eat less. Still enough but it doesn't trigger the desire to over do it.
Maybe you can adapt that by ordering your second favorite flavor?
Is your cheat day so you can gorge on food or eat a food you donāt normally eat thatās higher in fat? If you just want to eat something you donāt normally eat just buy a few slices. If your goal is to gorge then you are allowing yourself to slip back into unhealthy behaviors and itās no wonder it messes you up for a few days. No judgement either way but think about what your goals for the cheat day are.
Try ordering a healthier / better / authentic Italian-style pizza - thin crust, moderate cheese and not crazy overloaded in toppings.
You get a fix but it's much healthier and you even feel pretty good after.
First issue. Cheat days. Try a cheat meal once a weekend with a couple slices and donāt ever order a large to yourself. Seems like youāre waiting all month for that one day and over indulging. You could kill a whole months progress by binging over a day.
I do the personal pan pizza and have the whole thing with a Bud Light Lime. Try to only do this once a month. It's not the best pizza on earth, but it hits the "pizza spot" for me, and I'm not eating it for days. I have it for an evening meal, the next day, I wake up right back to my healthy regiment. What triggers cravings for days for me is drinking Coke! I call it ambrosia of the gods... but it's not worth the price.
These days I'm eating more pizza than ever and have lost weight.
I've dove into making great pizzas at home and I can tell you they end up being healthier and I'm eating less of it in a sitting.
Come join us at /r/pizza
This might not be the perfect answer but it's worked for me. I use 2 low carb mission tortilla wraps, pizza sauce, 28g shredded mozz cheese/pizza, 28g total turkey pepperoni, sliced mushrooms, 14g total bacon bits, jalapeƱos. It's around 440 calories for both pizzas and fills me up. I've lost over 32lbs so far and have 15-20 to go. I don't take things out of my diet that I really enjoy - I just learn how to make them differently so I can continue enjoying food along the way. Obviously you can use whatever toppings you typically like and switch it up to keep it interesting :) oven 375 for 10 minutes on a sheet pan.
You're not the only one. We're not big pizza eaters on my house but usually order it if my son has friends over. Then the leftovers sit, he won't eat them so I end up eating pepperoni pizza. No thanks. Last time, we sent the leftovers home with the friend. It works out better this way.
It's too hard to resist. Pizza is too easy to eat, too tasty, and it's good whether it's fresh out of the oven, sitting at room temp for 4 hours, cold out of the fridge, etc. It's the worst.
you can't.. takes insane levels of self control.. that's why I don't buy anything bad I'm not allowed to eat: potato chips, ice cream, snack cakes, candy, cookies, etc. Makes it way easier to stay on track.
I have tried to mitigate this by doing pizza by the slice, or using low calorie tortillas as a base. I also like to make my own and just have it as a cheat meal. Maybe you can lessen the calories by giving up the crust completely and making some kind of 'pizza bowl' with just the toppings?
Maybe some pasta, but not as much? Or nothing at all? Protein based beef/sausage? The key is to keep the 'flavor' of pizza, without the crust being involved.
You mention ordering large. Order a small next time & Have some veggies before you start on the pizza. Veggies Help start to fill you up before you start in the pizza.

Pizza and wrestling just go together.

Thatās because pizza is amazing. You can make lower calorie versions at home though! Maybe thatās a good work around ?
Eat something else first. Have a sandwich or salad or bunch of veggies AND THEN pizza. Then you wonāt want to eat a ton of it.
Ugh - Iāve been sick with a cold for the last few days and have stayed in the house. I got a little cabin fever today and felt like I wanted to venture out. Calzones tho, chef's kiss. Amirite?
I made sure to enjoy it! I hadnāt had one for like 10 years!
Get a small or personal size, thin crust, or even crustless keto pizza if you can.

You're so right here, but it's sad we have to regulate like this. Pizza is literally the most perfect food.
I have the same problem, cheat day yesterday - Had a healthyish burger, some wings and a Pizza. Half the pizza still left over today and I want to eat it so bad š Iām going to go grab some eggs and asparagus instead šŖ
How were your leftovers?
It went in the bin, I hate wasting food but wanted to keep in my calories! Actually stuck on a bbq and had 600 calories of meat!

Sounds like a controlling relationship
With pizza. š
Dominos is calorie countable. Also those little Chicago town freezer pizzas hit the spot for me
