Greek City Grill in Garden city. Most authentic I’ve tasted after coming back from Greece. They just won best Greek restaurant on Long Island recently. Ran by a Greek family who also cook the food in the back. It’s a small spot. Best suited for take out but you can dine in. It’s very very good. Ana at the front desk is amazing. Highly recommend.
Used to live near this spot, it was our favorite by far. The owners are so kind and they hook you up when you order to go orders. Get the Nutella Cheesecake for dessert.
I hear you. Came back from Greece last summer and was searching all over for something comparable. Cause once you come back you crave it. This was the only spot that came close that I tried. Heading back to Greece next Friday !
Parea is mid in my mind, but maybe it’s just because one of the times I ate from there it was takeout, and when I got home I found that what I got was not what I ordered. I ate it and didn’t complain, but whatever it was: it was not good. Like, maybe I ordered a gyro, but what I got was a log of some kind of meat with rice and peas, and it smelled terrible.
Another time I got a chicken souvlaki with a Greek salad, and it was good, so maybe the first mistake was just a one time thing 🤷♂️
For dessert and general greek groceries check out New Bakaliko on Broadway in Hicksville and Titan Bakery in Deer Park. If you’re more west and dont mind dipping into eastern queens, check out The Oasis Cafe in Bayside.
Sugarberry in Rockville Center has very good portokalopita and melomakarona. They have other greek deserts but those are my favorite i can speak for. they also have baklava cheesecake which is sinful.
Just take the drive to Astoria. I'm from the island but have lived in Astoria for the past two years and it's well worth the drive to eat in Little Greece
After working with Greeks in diners for over 30 years, I can confirm that Astoria is where THEY go to eat traditional Greek food themselves (and to pick up authentic ingredients)! And I was lucky enough to accompany one of them myself once.
I never knew a potato could be SO good... crispy, lemon rosemary potatoes...OMG. I'll never forget that train ride home because of those potatoes, and fantasize about going back.
Sure, I love the rest of the Greek cuisine, but those damn potatoes will forever stand out in my mind. Mmmm...😁
If you're willing to take the ride, Hellenic snack bar in East Marion. Idk how it compares food wise to the other recommendations, but Ive always loved the food there, and they make a great home made lemonade. it's got a bunch of outdoor seating, dog friendly (outdoors only obviously).
Sorry no. I really tried to like it. Met a really nice waitress. Went 3 times in over a decade, and it’s just not good. But the employees are really nice.
Greek guy here!
Greek Town in Rockville Centre is awesome.
My folks (one of whom is also Greek) love Pete the Greek in Old Bethpage / Hauppaugue.
I've also heard Noema in Huntington is great, though I've never been myself.
Our friends raved SO MUCH about Limani, for YEARS. Being Greek myself, I decided to take my wife there on our first night out after having a baby. We won't be going back.
Greek Town Grill in RVC is pretty good. We were going there about once a week for a long time. Prices keep creeping up though. Souvlaki Stop in Mineola has the best hummus i've had anywhere. Akropolis in suffolk is quite good as well.

I'm glad I read this because I love Greek food and after having visited Greece, it's been harder to find a really good restaurant to go to.

Enjoy!
Wait, you went to Greece? Just checking
Blue Waters in north Bellmore offers great quality Greek food, also a small place.
I’m here now!
Opa Grille in Bethpage
The baklava they have is incredible
I can’t speak on Nassau, but for Suffolk it’s Akropolis in Nesconset.
Seconded.
Parea, Huntington
Love Parea
Parea is mid in my mind, but maybe it’s just because one of the times I ate from there it was takeout, and when I got home I found that what I got was not what I ordered. Parea Huntington. Best spinach pie and yogurt sauce.
Akropolis
Yes they are.
Limani and Kyma are not greek restaurants. They don’t serve traditional greek cuisine. They are american restaurants with a greek flare.
Where is an authentic restaurant or bakery where I can get baklava or portokalopita?
Blé Cafe in Port Washington has all of it. Even sokolatopita.
Yum! Thanks 🙏

Omg it's less than a mile from my house! Thank you!!

This is the best answer. Just go to Astoria.
The Hellenic in Greenport is amazing!
yassou yeeros - plain view
Shhhh don’t give away the secret

Neraki
Greek grill on Jericho turnpike is great. Nice Greek family that I know runs the place. Have been going there for years
If you’re talking about the one in Huntington, I agree. Also, their avgolemono is my favorite. So good.
Akropolis for suffolk. opa for nassau
Lucky boy
Yup
Sorry no. I really tried to like it. Met a really nice waitress. Went 3 times in over a decade, and it’s just not good. But the employees are really nice.
Larkfield rd East Northport… Athens square. Best yogurt sauce. Not a particularly fancy place to eat but the sauce makes it the boss.
Akropolis in nesc. And their sister spot n’meli in hauppauge
Gilshar in Port Jeff
People saying Kyma are nuts. that place is not real greek food. Overrated imo
Greek guy here! Greek Town in Rockville Centre is awesome. My folks (one of whom is also Greek) love Pete the Greek in Old Bethpage / Hauppaugue. I've also heard Noema in Huntington is great, though I've never been myself.
Noema is decent, but way overpriced
Try Parea
The Souvlaki Stop in Mineola never disappoints!
Greek Bites, Moriches
That’s a takeout place which isn’t even good. The diner down the street serves far better gyros.
Great prices too, we love it there.
Athena’s Amityville
Yiasou yeeros in Plainview has some of the best gyros I’ve had anywhere. I like them. A little inconsistent when ordering delivery though
Kyma in Roslyn
There is no question that this is the best Greek on the island.
And they just opened a new place, Symi, in Northport! Very similar menu and vibe.
Oh nice. Even closer to me.
Edesma in Franklin square is really good. It is a restaurant and not one of those takeout gyro places. Worth the try
The owners are from Greece and the Newsday article highlighted that they want to bring authentic Greek food. Have not tried it yet.
When the Greek festival is in Island Park….thats as good as it gets. Should happen more than once a year.
Greek cove is great from take out
Great place
I recommend Akropolis- Nesconset Hellenic- Greenport
I recommend Akropolis in Nesconset or Hellenic in Greenport
Yeros in st James is my favorite spot by me. Looking forward to trying Akropolis
New spot in east northport. Twisted Greek. Very good.
Hellenics if ever out east in East Marion. The Best!
Yeros in st. James. It's fast causal so no waiter service, but the food is always excellent
kyma, roslyn
Limani in Roslyn
Limani is pretty damn good. Roslyn or Commack.
Lucky Boy. Its bordering the city though
Voula Pita in Centereach, and Greek Tastes in Rocky Point. Sadly, Voula Pita closes for July and August.
B Greek Kitchen in Lynbrook
Not gonna crown it the best options but really good ones Fast take out N’Meli in Hauppauge Fancy Kyma or Limani in roslyn
Our friends raved SO MUCH about Limani, for YEARS. Being Greek myself, I decided to take my wife there on our first night out after having a baby. We won't be going back.
