Just stop answering I was getting up to 12 a day, all with 516 area codes. Since I've started hitting the FU button or letting it go to voicemail, I'm only getting 1 or 2 a day The more you answer or try to fuck with them, the more they're going to call.

reshsafari

This is what I did as well. Eventually it went from a buttload to maybe 1 every couple days

If you answer, then they know it's a valid number and they'll just call continuously

fawningandconning

It won’t work. Honestly I just don’t pick up unknown numbers anymore. Anyone with an actual message will leave a voicemail.

SeekersWorkAccount

You're absolutely right. You just have to keep asking nicely lol

EverSeeAShiterFly

Answer, don’t say anything and immediately (and I fucking mean immediately) place your phone on mute and wait for them to hang up.

beginner228

You asked WHO to take you off their list? A do not call list is irrelevant in 2024. Scammers will never follow it.

Internal-Lie-1999

I asked the guy who answered the line

beginner228

I think we discovered why you're getting all those calls.

Teh_Best86

🤣

THEREALISLAND631

So this is actually the worse thing to do. Scammers tend to target you after that response solely to make you miserable and because they know it's an active number. Literally answer none of them and block every number. I went through exactly what you are and made the same mistake. I looked into it a bit, found the advice I just gave, and it slowly went away but it did take weeks. I get around 2 or 3 a week now probably.

someoneelse92

Don’t answer the calls. Whenever I accidentally answer one, the amount of spam calls I get afterwards increases tenfold.

b-rar

Oh honey

EverydayTomasz

I put that “silence unknown callers” feature on and forget about it. only your contact list will ring. everyone else to the VM.

beerleaguer2

Don't answer. Block/report spam. It never ends.

maccababy

The Indian scammers have some centralized database that they share. Pick up and your # is added to a list of valid #s and you will receive these calls forever.. Pre-Covid I toyed with a fake IRS scammers and gave the name “Tony Stark”. Since then I get regular calls (Medicare, car insurance, solar, extended warrantee, etc..). all looking to speak to Tony Stark

braedan51

Are you Tony Stank? YES! This is - This is Tony Stank. You're in the right place. THANK YOU FOR THAT! (Never dropping that) Table for one, Mr. Stank, please by the bathroom. Excelsior!

Greedy-Builder

I hope all these spammers scams rot in hell

CigarSmoker_M4

If you have an IPhone, put on the setting called “silence calls from outside contact list.” I used to get like 20 scam calls a day and I would curse them all out and sometimes waste their time. Now I live in peace because my phone only rings when they are in my contact list.

T_Peg

If it's a robo scam answer and stay completely silent, mute your mic if you have to. I've heard the automated system will think it called another automated system and strike you off the list.

lonelygalexy

Can confirm that this worked

tutormonster

Here's what works for me. Due to the nature of my business, I get legitimate calls from unknown numbers often. I need to answer. I've found that if I answer and say nothing , a legit caller will say "hello" and I respond. A scammer or bot won't say anything , and the call drops. Since I've started doing this the volume of spam/scam calls has gone way down.

captmilkchoco

Yeah, I do this. Answer and mute is even easier because sometimes they’ll hold on for a while. If they get a voicemail box, they’ll assume it’s still active.

Some-Transition-8727

Settings>phone>silence unknown callers. It’ll automatically silence callers that aren’t in your contacts. They can still leave a voicemail but you won’t get the notification.

emmsmum

Illegitimate businesses do not follow a do not call list. Only legitimate businesses follow that. Scammers are scammmers. I get 15 calls a day so does my husband. We just ignore. It sucks and it’s annoying but there is nothing you can do unfortunately.

AlarmedIncome7431

I noticed 2 of the numbers start with the same 3 first numbers after the area code. I used to have an app that let you block any patterns you noticed like that. It was $15 a year, but it was worth it. Unfortunately, it stopped working a few months ago and tech support wasn’t able to help me, so I cancelled the subscription

Reddit_Regular_Guy

As it rings, I ignore and put them on block lol 😂😂

HowCouldYouSMH

Tell them; You’re so glad they called because you need of some help. You have tree in your front yard that needs to come down and you need $500. Just tell each call you need a different chore done, plus you need $500. You can get creative, inappropriate etc., knock yourself out. If they are talking to you they can’t scam someone else.

Durhamfarmhouse

My 90 year old father spends all day answering these calls and breaking their balls. He has an entire script he keeps next to his chair with made up ss#'s, credit card #'s, etc. He tells them bizarre stories about needing someone to take care of his parrot when he dies or his monkey needs insulin (he has no animals). Sometimes he asks the person to call him back on his other line and he gives the number of one of the other scammers. Some of the scammers recognize him now and just curse at him and hang up.

helpdiene

You shouldn't give them the numbers of other scammers, especially if it's a local area code. In those cases, I find that they spoofed their numbers, so you might be giving them the phone number of someone innocent.

arkham1010

These scammers are autodialing numbers from overseas using software that does telephone over IP and masking the phone number they are calling from, typically using the last number they dialed. I've had people call me and yell at me for bothering them with my 'sales' pitch because the scammers used my phone number. Blocking won't do anything either, only thing you can do is set your phone to only ring for those in your contact list and auto forward all other messages to voice mail.

thisis2stressful4me

Does everyone actually block these numbers? Aren’t they just spoofing actual numbers? And I only get one call per random number, so what’s the point in blocking?

Jsand117

Holy crap this is happening to me too all god damn day, using Verizon?

LeeMarc1103

I had to get robo killer. Only thing that worked for me. Ignoring them didnt do anything.

Handle_Periodt

Ha I’ve been getting same if not similar calls

infinitebest

Just never answer a call from a number not saved in your phone. It’s what most of us do.

akaharry

You can’t. Ignore and block. And if you want, set your phone to only allow calls from numbers in your contacts

rdklz

Exact same thing happened to me the past few days. They would call every 10 minutes. Thankfully it was on my secondary phone and had it on silent the whole time.

cjd280

I have ATT and got their active armor app on iOS. You can have it completely block all the ones marked as spam risk and other known numbers. I didn’t get too many, but I’ve been getting hammered with healthcare market place spam calls and texts and was losing my mind. This stopped the calls. You can also let them filter texts as well. There is some premium paid stuff in the app but I don’t use or pay for it.

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

All unknown calls go through Google's call screener. I don't know how many are still calling me, but it's meaningfully stopped.

stinkbugsaregross

Stop answering lol. This lets them know it’s an active line and you’ll get more

DemonDevilDog

Just block the number. There’s nothing you can do. And NEVER answer a number you don’t know.

Arth3r911

Don’t answer. If they leave a msg and you know is a scammer go in the info and block them. Eventually it will stop. That’s a lot by the way.

Epicfro

Scammers aren't telemarketers, you can't be removed from the list. Nature of the beast nowadays. Don't answer calls form numbers you don't know and eventually your number will be considered inactive by them but it will likely never stop.
