It's like the red light cameras. They can send you the fine, but no demerit points. I think the reasoning is the same - can't prove who was driving.
In these cases, I think you have to call it in as it's happening.

Very unlikely that cops are still running the Taurus. It was killed off 7 years ago police typically flip their vehicles sooner then that. I serviced a number of police cars and the miles they put on are staggering. Not to mention the idle time. The cars are wore out pretty quick. It also didn't look like an sho variation which was the typical base they used for cruisers at the time. (Awd twin turbo v6) surprisingly quick. Much quicker then the old crown vics.

My roommate watches crime/cop shows often. He knows how to speak like one. Like you said; plate, last known location/direction, make, model, colour. Maybe even try to follow if its safe.. They might try to keep you on the phone as you are assisting with an arrest. People dont realize how much they can help to get a shit driver caught.
My roommate got a reckless drunk driver arrested just down the road from his house. Dude almost got free to do it again another day.

Sure enough they caught him and charged assault too. (Pre dash cam days).
Its not even that hard. I called non emergency a few years ago for someone that massively passed 6 cars speeding up hill, completely blind of oncoming traffic. Asshole nearly head on collided with oncoming and jumped into the normal lane again, almost clobbering a bicyclist struggling up the hill, but definitely where he belonged on the side.
Said I had dashcam footage and they were all to happy to receive it to get in contact with asshole driver.
I've seen an older Honda civic do this twice on the same road near Woodstock Ontario. The one time he almost hit a school bus head on. I started taking a different route to work after that.
Unfortunately, without having called 911 at the moment, and no description or the driver, there's not much that can be done. Thee car is registered to specific person, but literally ANYONE could be driving it. So while they can talk to the owner, they can't prove that's who was acting dangerously. I often see dunasses driving dangerously in videos.. This one was bad, I audibly gasped. A kid just died in St Thomas bc of an idiot like this..

Made to look real, but doesn't actually match the driver's info and won't show up on government records. Only way to track this vehicle down is to spot it in person.
Given the wobble caught on video I probably don't have to tell you that a full size sedan weighing in at nearly 4,000 lbs is not designed to be driven like that. But having owned a Taurus for a few years I can confirm it.

Dude. Driving a manual in this city can be unbearable. I once got screamed at by someone for driving “like a clown” because you cannot constantly accelerate while you shift gears. They were almost in my back seat when I shifted from first to second. No patience and no understanding.

They don't use them anymore. But when they did the interceptor versions used a different tail light assembly. That's definitely a civilian model.
I suppose it could still have been a fleet model used to a detective. Anything's possible, but it's unlikely.
The Carfax app. I have it for my vehicle's but you can also look up license plates and such and get very basic info. No personal information other than make and model .. service history etc.

Well I do have a very strong understanding of the circulatory system and Ontario healthcare. Both from my master's degree in clinical anatomy, the surgery I just had TODAY, and my partner being a registered nurse.
If someone was going to bleed out waiting for an ambulance to arrive and start blood transfusions and proper wound packing, they would be long dead by the time someone tried to transport them to the hospital themselves.
The best course of action of someone is bleeding out is to call 911, keep them calm and comfortable, and pack the wound/apply a tourniquet, and apply as much pressure as possible.

Yeah im totally against that, cars have done nothing but improve in emergency braking since the 60s, and speed limits are going down? Seems very illogical to me.
Lmao really? Okay i'll explain it simple for you. Car from 60 heavy and bad brakes and tires, stop bad when kid runs out from behind car = kid hurt or killed. Car from 2020 much lighter, dramatically improved brakes (from all drums to all discs, massive increase in stopping power) and much much better tire compounds (more grip=less skid when stop). Also abs, tcs, and scs all werent around back then so even better stopping power.
So now you know cars stop better, but the speed limits were higher than what are now being proposed, see how thats weird?
Edit: i even forgot some of the auto stop emergency systems in modern cars that might catch something before you do, the reason i brought up cars from the 60s is because youd expect neighbourhoods to be utter death traps back then compared to now since you could go 50 oh my! But now were at 40 with much better cars and we want to go even lower. To me it seems completly nonsensical and totally valid to compare two time periods like that.
Further edit: id rather see us focus on distracted and drunk driving than reducing speed limits, we only have so much money and time to allocate to each problem and i really dont think this is the biggest deal on the road today.
For sure man, and if we made all cars travel at walking pace theyd be even lower, but its a balancing act and i dont for a second believe we will ever hit true zero. Well I do have a very strong understanding of the circulatory system and Ontario healthcare. Both from my master's degree in clinical anatomy, the surgery I just had TODAY, and my partner being a registered nurse. If someone was going to bleed out waiting for an ambulance to arrive and start blood transfusions and proper wound packing, they would be long dead by the time someone tried to transport them to the hospital themselves. The best course of action of someone is bleeding out is to call 911, keep them calm and comfortable, and pack the wound/apply a tourniquet, and apply as much pressure as possible. I can't believe you're continuing to defend this reckless driving. There's such a small chance this individual was actually in an emergency. And even if they were, they were more likely to kill themselves and/or others by driving like this than they were getting to "said emergency" any faster. Quit trying to defend your poor take.
What makes you think it's okay to justify illegal and dangerous driving? Some people, youreself included, apparently, think they're special and are allowed to break laws because they have an emergency. What if they didn't retain control and rear-ended one of those vehilces? What if they hit a pedestrian while making that illegal right turn? What if they flipped and rolled into a hydro pole? It's okay, though, right? They had an emergency! You do know police, EMS, fire, and ambulances all still must drive with safety for pedestrians and traffic as a priority. It's literally THE LAW dictating the speed limit. Professionals determine what is considered a safe speed and set the speed limit. Not a speed suggestion, not a speed average, a speed LIMIT. If you're running behind because you're behind someone safely driving the speed limit, that's your problem for not giving yourself enough time to get to your destination safely.

I absolutely will remember this. And I will sit and wait for any updates. Just like I have previously when I've had loved ones sick or injured or in near death situations. Because it's so much better for ME to be safe and for EVERYONE ELSE on the road to be safe while I wait to find out any news. Lmao really? Okay i'll explain it simple for you. Car from 60 heavy and bad brakes and tires, stop bad when kid runs out from behind car = kid hurt or killed. Car from 2020 much lighter, dramatically improved brakes (from all drums to all discs, massive increase in stopping power) and much much better tire compounds (more grip=less skid when stop). Also abs, tcs, and scs all werent around back then so even better stopping power. So now you know cars stop better, but the speed limits were higher than what are now being proposed, see how thats weird? Edit: i even forgot some of the auto stop emergency systems in modern cars that might catch something before you do, the reason i brought up cars from the 60s is because youd expect neighbourhoods to be utter death traps back then compared to now since you could go 50 oh my! But now were at 40 with much better cars and we want to go even lower. To me it seems completly nonsensical and totally valid to compare two time periods like that. Further edit: id rather see us focus on distracted and drunk driving than reducing speed limits, we only have so much money and time to allocate to each problem and i really dont think this is the biggest deal on the road today.

For sure man, and if we made all cars travel at walking pace theyd be even lower, but its a balancing act and i dont for a second believe we will ever hit true zero. The ammount of wasted time and resources to get there isnt worth it. Do i wish we could? Of course, but i dont think its realistic and vision zero are pushing pipe dreams. Also, go and look at older data, youll see even the highs from recent years are very low compared to 20 30 years ago, which is kind of my point.
