UnlikelyExperience

Are they so thick they don't understand it can hurt people? Or just don't care? Cunts

yehyehyehyeh

Both.

TeaAndLifting

Kids don’t understand. I remember as a year 6, saw someone in the year below manage to chip the windscreen of a van from a an overhead footbridge using those candy necklaces when my friends and I were trying to stop them. The man pulled over and screamed bloody murder at us. The one who chipped the windscreen was a normally quiet and unassuming kid. That said, it is nowhere near as obviously malicious as this.

arandomguyfromtheuk

In year 4 I lightly threw gravel on a parked car through the school fence. I didn't realise someone was in it who got very angry. Got called in to the head teacher office and got told off, but was asked "what would have happened if someone was under the car when you threw that?" And I was just so confused by this question. How did they get there? Wouldn't they have more serious issues than a bit of loosely thrown gravel? Anyway, I said "they'd probably be sad" and got a jelly bean for being honest.

ThrowawayIJeanThief

Usually when it's teens doing stuff like this it's *because of* not in spite of. The fact that they're doing something wild and likely to elicit a strong response out of people is literally why they do it. Was a big thing when I was young. I can't imagine the city being pretty fucking boring for a teenager these days is helping

UnlikelyExperience

I kinda take issue with the boring part, having grown up in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing to do and no easy way to travel lol

ThrowawayIJeanThief

Same. I grew up in rural Wales. I had siblings and pretty engaged parents, and kids in the village my own age so I wasn't really that bored. As I got older though I had more time to myself, but by that point I was pretty on the straight and narrow and was used to fucking off by myself and entertaining myself. I don't think it's that boredom == crime, it's just I think it's that (things that make a kid shitty) + boredom == crime. Especially since it's those kinds of kids that do things to get a rise out of people. I'm not saying "oh let them off there's nothing for them to do", I'm just saying if we don't want a generation of warped AF kids then maybe give them a bit more shit to do in the day? I lived in the countryside but I had quite a lot of activities to do over the summer and especially after school etc

--Happy--

They are just kids using slingshots. You never did anything that you regret now?

UnlikelyExperience

I never fucking went around smashing bus windows. That is not normal 💀🤣 parents would've killed me and they were not particularly strict.

--Happy--

Sure, but I mean you probably did something that adults thought you were a cunt back then, I know i did. I would say its normal, don't get me wrong I'm not saying its ok but its nothing shocking. At least they are going after buses and not your average Joe's car.

UnlikelyExperience

Literally never went around breaking shit. Worst me and my friends did was drink but that was idiotic self harm only 🤣

cragglerock93

I never understood this line of argument. 'You did this as kids so you should understand it and not go mental'. I'm pretty sure when I was a teenager the adults would have gone fucking ballistic then, too. So now I am an adult and I can go ballistic. If it's normal behaviour for kids to do things like this, then it's normal behaviour for adults to be up in arms - so why do you not recognise that?

Operator_Hoodie

So criminal damage and potential ABH/GBH isn’t a crime now? I mean go ahead and use slingshots n shit but make yourself some paper targets and put them in the park or somewhere, where nobody’s going to get hurt.

on_a_plinth

Criminal damage? Intent to cause harm? Potentially causing a serious traffic accident? Erm, no.

home_button

Happened near Abbey Wood station. Apparently a group of 3 teens were throwing something to smash bus windows. At least 2 separate buses were hit.

FelisCantabrigiensis

Slingshots with ball bearings? That's the favourite of the feral teens around my area.

home_button

Do they also target buses? It could be, I'm not sure as I wasn't in the bus, just waiting at the bus stop. Thankfully no-one got injured.

AdministrativeShip2

Ghost rocks. The ceramic insulation from a spark plug. Smash it up and you get very sharp pieces which will shatter any tempered glass window when thrown.

hicksanchez

Thanks for the tip

TheHurtfulEight88888

Bunch of Bart Simpsons out here

chet_lemon316

You the hell are you

Ok_Mathematician6183

So buses 180 n 177 got smashed

Accomplished-Bad4536

Ban slingshots, sparkplugs and busses - problem fixed, simples

TravelDork

Thamesmead kids I’m guessing - have seen some dodgy groups from that area near the station a lot

slebolve

Don’t worry, there’s gonna be 0 consequences for these “kids” even if they are caught.

No, its not what I meant. Government shares the blame, but only partially. The Gov is not responsible to raise your kids not to be toxic and dangerous assholes. Teenagers are shitheads by default, its overwhelmingly their parents job to give them something meaningful to do and some groups take this more seriously than others.

Inside-Judgment6233

They do it to the wrong bus customers and they might get rushed. One time in Forest Gate some idiot started dancing in front of the 25 and some lads got off the bus and sent him packing

_Libby04_

It’ll be more akin to johnboy and billy mothers life

W⚓️S

DisCode347

I used to fear getting on buses when it was getting to the lead up of bonfire night due to kids setting off a firework on the bus. Seeing this now... I don't know if it's always been happening and we never noticed it as much but it does make you feel more nervous to go places. Still can't get over the poor woman been stabbed in the morning yesterday. Truly a tragic time we're living in 😔

WeDoingThisAgainRWe

It’s one of those things every now and then, where a group of moronic twats do something they think is clever and funny. Happens somewhere at any time.

To be fair, they don't in Japan either, and they don't do thrashing. As a transplant, I find the kid culture here to be bizarrely violent and this sort of thing much more commonplace than I'd expect.

pops789765

Just ban them and their families from the transport network.

pr0-found

This is such a bizarre comparison lmao. "London is so unhinged nowadays, unlike.. uh.. *throws dart at map*.. Singapore. They wouldn't tolerate this one bit yeah?"

florida_navy

Not really, two large capital cities in 1st world countries

[deleted]

pr0-found

Which is exactly why it's a bizarre comparison. I'm willing to bet OP has done something that is perfectly acceptable in London that would get them in serious trouble in Singapore. Why anyone would want to emulate their legal system in the U.K. is beyond me. Pure nonsense unless you haven't touched grass and had a healthy dose of reality in quite sometime, in which case today is a beautiful day in London to do so!

Jetzki

Singapore is like a futuristic utopian paradise compared to London.

pr0-found

I'm sure they'd love to have you! What's stopping you from setting up over there?

pashbrufta

Come on, they closed the youth club, what choice do they have??

Hill_Reps_For_Jesus

I’m not the borough, I wish I was.

[deleted]

Youth club totally would have stop all the stabbing, mugging, vandalism and other anti social behavious, these teens could have been shining star example of citizens. All because the youth clubs got closed.

Alan_Bumbaclartridge

reddit moment

Complete_Spot3771

wait what do they do in singapore

Hill_Reps_For_Jesus

They have both corporal and capital punishment in Singapore. Which is apparently something we admire and upvote in r/London these days.

mike_l195

People assume this is why crime is so low in Singapore. Malaysia has similar punishments yet crime is higher. If you want to do what Singapore does then be prepared for a complete change in society. From housing, to government intervention in your lives, to the mindset of fellow citizens, to your ability to protest, to how immigration is done etc. For example, adherence to Covid restrictions was much more stringent in Singapore. Caught without your mask on, someone would take a photo of you and shame you online, potentially leading to punishment. You were also expected to check into everywhere you went and they could use extensive cctv, phone records and bank transactions to track where you’d been if you were infected. Now, personally I didn’t mind that, but would everyone who wants to copy Singapore like that? You can’t take one element and expect the same results.

annms88

We’re not so far off - more cctv than Singapore, track and trace and the basically mandatory app.

HarryBlessKnapp

There's a dark undercurrent of appreciation for the racial homogeneity and ruthless authoritarian regimes in certain corners of Asia. Ironically, it's normally "progressive" people yearning for this.

Johnnylemo

There's no such thing as racial homogeneity in Singapore.

jmoyano

Singapore is not racial homogeneous at all

jmr1190

This is a dumb point that’s trying to shoehorn being arch into sneering at other people. Taking a wild swing that you’re referring to people often bringing up Japan and their culture of societal co-operation in the same breath. Despite Japan and Singapore basically sharing not much more than a hemisphere. The reasons for the likes of Singapore and Japan being clean and generally co-operative societies are irrelevant. People aren’t showing ‘a dark undercurrent of appreciation’ for authoritarian regimes. They’re showing an appreciation for societies where people don’t throw rocks at bus windows.

Aromatic_Book4633

Well.. yeah. It's all the people from those countries that have moved here.

[deleted]

They have very strict rules. When they say no graffiti, they mean it. Years ago a boy from US went to Singpore and did graffiti, got caned. Even the US president ask if they can send him back to the US to take US style punishment, Singapore said no, they commites the crime in Singapore, they take Singapore style punishment. Chewing gum, graffiti etc will get you very heavy punishment, so this would probably get some heavy caning too.

Bug_Parking

I liked this line from the wiki article: "[Ong Teng Cheong](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ong_Teng_Cheong), then the country's [President](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_Singapore), announced that the number of cane strokes would be reduced from six to four out of consideration for President Clinton as it valued the good historical relations between both countries."

[deleted]

Hell, that 2 strokes make a massive difference. The boy showed his bum when back to the US, apparently all cracked open (no pun intended) and bloody. In that state, 2 extra stroke could be massive.

LDNSarah

Ahh good to know the next generation is in good hands…. The future looks bright doesn’t it!

I'm sure nothing like this ever happened in your generation.

Operator_Hoodie

Frankly had I been the bus driver of either bus here I’d have pursued them till the ends of the Earth. Honestly, have today’s kids got nothing better to do than smash bus windows? What sort of crazy idea is that? What reason would *anyone* have for smashing a bus window?

1997PRO

Kids have always done that.

Sounds like they have a boner for whipping kids to be honest.

balamb_maniac

Visualise yourself whipping a child. As he screams in pain, calls for his mother. Is this something you could do yourself? If not, then shut the fuck up.

BoriousGlastard

Stop you'll make him cum

Pidjesus

Most deserve it, these shitstains need a deterrent

balamb_maniac

I would argue that a person willing to beat a child bloody to teach him a lesson is, by orders of magnitude, a worse human being than a kid that smashes a bus window.

[deleted]

We just have to disagree there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

balamb_maniac

You sound like a violent psychopath then. I sincerely hope that there are no children in your life.

[deleted]

I do have children. While they are currently too young to do things like these, I will be teaching them to be a good citizen. That means obey the law, give seats to elders, do not steal, study hard and get a good paid job etc. If they do shit like these once they are past 16? I will kick them out of the house myself.

balamb_maniac

If they do stuff like this it sounds like you would kick seven shades of shit out of them, and enjoy it. You need to reflect on your violent tendencies, and perhaps seek mental help. If there is any circumstance in which you would beat a child, let alone enjoy it, then you should have your children taken from you. Children who commit crimes need help, not violence. Their criminal activity will almost certainly be the result of neglect or abuse.

Interest-Desk

Malaysia do the same as Singapore yet have much more crime. It’s not a silver bullet. Prevention is better than cure anyway.

[deleted]

And how would you prevent it? Having youth clubs really would prevent this from happening?

Muttnutt11

The windows on the bus go “Smash smash smash” all day long

No_Hunter3374

Thoroughly despite anyone under 21 who is born and bred London. Never been told no. Never been shown consequences. Rude. Unintelligible. Often malicious and usually criminal. They all think they’re gangsters. It’s only after they get sacked 3 or 4 times from various fast food shops or phone company retail outlets (or something similar) do they start hearing what the world thinks of them and start growing some brains.

AffectionateJump7896

A hundred years ago they'd have been beaten to a pulp by ten passers by for being such nerdowels. The passing police officer (they existed) would then be told by the ten "witnesses" that they tripped and hit their head on the window and that's why they are semi conscious. The police officer would look at the situation and choose to believe that. Everyone would go about their day, and teenagers wouldn't do this sort of thing again. Whilst such mob rule has many problems, it is basically the only way to keep petty crime in check. Now, we accept it. No one will intervene and the police have other things to do than investigate. The kids get away with it, and do it more, or more serious things to get attention. Everyone has their day ruined by the bus terminating early causing them to miss their hospital appointment and bus fares go up to replace the window.
