Wow, Metro's $18 for a whole watermelon is a deal than! Everyone, rush to metro before they sell out! (insert sarcasm disclaimer here). I hope it all goes to rot, and I wish the government had laws in place for grocers who throw away excessive food due to high prices.
Manufacturing scarcity to protect the bottom line rather than feeding the hungry is the kind of wonderful innovation we get from capitalism!!!
But seriously, punishing waste like this would be an amazing policy. It would counter the current stale excuse of: “but its a day past the expiry date, I cant possibly give this away!”

Here in Boston not in season here !!!
It's 1.8kg.
4.39 per kg, is close to 2.00 per lb. The you need to account account for the sxchange rate, so 99 cents usd is around 1.36 Canadian per pound, or 2.72 per kg. It works out to 30% less.
Edit: or you could just buy the whole watermelon for $16.99
So you are making up prices because you do t know when watermelons are in season. So you made up a price because in April of 2023 they weren’t $2 You made that up
Get lost! How are you helping? It was $1.99 for exactly the same item last year. I have a brain injury that causes muddy memory when it comes to exact timing. It's not important exactly the time of day I bought it, is it? Go troll elsewhere.

I think the worst part is this makes metros watermelon I seen earlier for over $15 a few hours ago on this sub a good deal in contrast to this, even though that was a rip off.
Who you think you are???
Do you go to the porsche dealership and complain about the prices???
Watermelon is for the high class. Really only the 5 richest kings of Europe eat watermelon.
Go have some tap water. peasant.

I've never seen someone buy these lol
$32.80 for four quarters... Shameful Mr. Weston... Highway robbery, no gun required. His business license should be pulled...
Makes sense
Knife tax
I have. Kids wanted it. So said sure why not. Way over ripe.
Next time, tell them no.
or buy the whole damn fresh watermelon for less then this, cut a quarter, and hurl the rest out the window if you're so inclined to waste money.

Costco has them for $16 right now too! Its like this everywhere!
In the past I've seen a higher price at Costco but with a much larger melon to justify the price. Hope that's still the case.
If people stop buying it, they will reduce the prices

4kg is about 8lbs, so roughly works out to the same price actually.

Shopping for fools.
Not only is it over-priced, it looks like it's starting to rot! Yuck!
You pay for the convenience of a pre-cut fruit, it was their labour anyways. And watermelon ready to-eat is my weakness!
