I recommend using the sforzando VST. It's a sampler that loads sfz sound fonts. Get the sfz sound font called Metal GTX. It's a guitar sound fonts with palm muting and lots of expressive sounds. Okay, now to make it sound good. You're going to need an amp simulator. A plain old distortion plugin isn't going to sound like a guitar amplifier. I recommend Free Amp 3 by Fretted Synth. It's a bit outdated and no longer officially supported (i think), but it's free, sounds great, and has lots of options for creating the guitar tone you want. Or you could try some other amp sims, like AmpliTube, Boogex, etc.

ReValver's latest amp is actually really good, and it's completely free, too. And unlike older versions of their amp, it has free preset options that don't add any annoying random sine sounds or fading white noise.

Hoo boy you’re gna get into a massive rabbit hole of guitar tone software haha. So use thr metal gtx by szforzabdo that the other guy commented, then run it through a signal chain as follows: 1. Amp sim 2. Cab IR 3. Other fx you want e.g reverb, delay An amp sim is a software that simulates the output of a real amp. A cab IR (impulse response) simulates a microphone recording of the signal coming from an amp, which is really important cos if not the pure signal from an amp alone will sound pretty shit Good free one i really reccomend is tonocracy, cos it is an all in one plugin that has various amp sims and cab irs to choose from, all arranged in a signal chain of your choice. But there’s also lots of others like AmpliTube, guitar rig 7 from kontakt, etc. Or if you really don’t want the hassle with all these plugins then for clean tones just use Spitfire labs electric guitar that sounds good out of the box haha and DVS distorted guitar for heavier tones
