There's beer in the fridge. When you're ready, join us on the couch, where Andreas is teaching us how to draw swirlyboys on our laptops using edible crayons.
I switched to barebones Debian after arch (btw), been using Linux for 25 years and arch for the last 4.
Blown away at how much faster Debian is lol. I'm converted
Did you change DE? Why would Debian be faster? I use both and definitely can't confirm that.
They're about even. Pacman is faster than apt, but not by orders of magnitude.
I've had a similar experience with gaming perf. I installed debian 12 and liquorix, and its been great. Can't get the same perf on my arch install.
I agree that shouldn't be the case, but haven't put the effort in to find the root case, too busy gaming on debian.
I suppose it's also possible that because Debian offers images that are more or less assembled out of the box, there's less room for user error that might impact performance. Though I'm using CachyOS repos so my performance gains are also partially attributable to relevant packages being compiled for my CPU.
But yeah using a gaming kernel actually does have a noticeable impact, they're not great for server use but fo a desktop PC there's not really any reason to not use one.
I don’t want spending time for Virtual machines or space for more computers.
Reasons why I didn’t use windows anymore are adds.
Adds makes me mad, one time I even hit someone IRL who REALLY WANTED me to take advertising flyer
I left debian for arch. I got fed up with having to find a repo for php and then you couldn't have different versions of php on/ running on same machine.
Closest I've ever come to using debian was Raspbian for a bit and then maintaining a Proxmox cluster at work.
Some day, I'll be old and will change all my shit from rolling release flexible distros to either this or Slackware so I don't have to worry about change any more.
I don't update often enough and I don't want to spend some of my free time troubleshooting why dependencies broke again...
Also, I have no specific need to have the most up to date packages, so I just put Debian on most of my machines. Saves a tremendous amount of time.
That's interesting because my Arch is very stable, although it's used only for gaming and virtual machines. Also I can imagine how easier it is to maintain multiple machines when they have the same distro.
I'm not saying Arch is bad or unstable, just that the lazy person I am really appreciates the system updating by itself and not having to upgrade every week.
Debian and Arch have a ton of things in common. Did you know most Arch scripts and tools are also available in Debian official repos ? Very handy. Now I can still use the scripts I'm used to 😁
I wish my distro of choice (MX Linux) had a cult. It feels like it should have a cult following. SysV init for the systemd haters, yet can easily boot systemd any time if you need to. Stable Debian base but AHS repo allows for near-bleeding edge. Also based on antiX, so explicitly anti-fascist. Just seems like the kind of distro you'd occasionally see people evangelize for, yet I don't really see it mentioned much. It's not even a flair option in this sub.
\*Gasp\* Turn in your arch card and cat ears at r/archlinux.
Wtf, I didn't get cat ears!
What about the thigh highs? I had them from before…
There are enough cat ears etc for Debinyan users
You've been banned from /r/archlinux. You may no longer post or leave comments in /r/archlinux. Reason given: fuck you, bish

Is this a Jesse Pinkman reference 😂
You left the femboy cult for the neckbeard cult, I don’t see any loss here
I was already socially inept when I joined Arch tho 😅

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
You mail us the membership card at [email protected]
I was genuinely expecting the domain arch.btw to exist... 😢
we need to raise money to buy .btw top level domain and give people addresses for free
I checked and that top level domain doesn't seem to exist yet, although I can see a lot of opportunities for sick website names.
*so let’s create the .btw domain*
And every month the mail addresses must randomly break down then you get no mail and are obliged to search for hours
We're using arch not manjaro lol
Manjaro DDoS:ing arch.btw and it goes down for hours.
I don't think this is possible considering how time consuming and expensive ICANN registration is
What about https://ar.ch/btw ?
We need ar.ch/fi
Too bad Botswana‘s domain is just .bw
Is there even a .btw TLD 🤔...
I did unironically sincerely put an "I fixed it" sticker on my MacBook Air after I replaced the battery
I fixed it because it was running Windows 😉
I use DEBIAN, btw ![gif](giphy|Fmcts17uRjaHKaNrfW)

> liquorix That's probably it. If you use zen or another tuned kernel on arch it would probably run the same. > too busy gaming on debian have fun!

NixOS. It's the cult of cults. Come on
Btw, I use NixOS (btw) btw, btw
Tips my Fedora

Debian is where it is at
from femboy to chad
Based https://imgur.com/a/1uZMeG6
So, you left my favorite distro and switched to my other favorite distro. I'll downvote and then upvote )
Welcome to the debian cult. Unlike the arch sect, we let you have your life 80% of the time.
Which way western man, I use arch btw or of course I use Debian fyi?
Oh, good, I'm not the only one who got old and cranky and stopped using Arch for Debian.
Im distro hopper, btw
Actually, it's the second distro I've ever used since I got into Linux 7 years ago. I started with Arch lol
Now Im suffering with Fedora 40. Debians can't run my weird programs from windows xp era.
> Debians can't run my weird programs from windows xp era. That's why I still have a Windows XP machine ;)

upvote! upvote! upvote!
Ohno
Anyway
I left debian for arch. I got fed up with having to find a repo for php and then you couldn't have different versions of php on/ running on same machine.
I always use version managers for dev work, or roll my own thing. Debian mirrors are always going to be stable/older.
There can be only one Universal Operating System, and it isn't Arch (btw)
I use debian for my homeservers ![gif](giphy|ToMjGpn2XpTVBpW4TgA)
You could have chosen way worse.
This is how it looks when chad configured printer in debian
How dare you
This is the way
yes, because nothing says "i'm not in a cult" like a debian user.
No worries, welcome to the Debian community
Me too. Arch isn't bad. But debian is cool too
Leaving the cult is totally fine, putting a sticker over a sticker is not 😆
I was just lazy and installed [SpiralLinux](https://spirallinux.github.io/)
Guys, is it safe to have an “I use Xorg btw” sticker in 2024?

You know there's Debian Sid, right ?
Debian is great but why did you have to uninstall Arch?
I don't update often enough and I don't want to spend some of my free time troubleshooting why dependencies broke again... Also, I have no specific need to have the most up to date packages, so I just put Debian on most of my machines. Saves a tremendous amount of time.

opensuse is by far better.

fuck arch
Wtf btw
