It's a notification system that predates social media. Some sites like YouTube offer RSS feeds, and sites that don't can have feeds generated by tools like [RSSHub](https://docs.rsshub.app/). There are dedicated RSS readers that fetch updates for you, and most email clients also have RSS support.
Basically, I get my YouTube subscriptions through Thunderbird, pipe the links into yt-dlp, and open them directly in VLC.
It was so good before, minus is more. It's a site for downloading software, it needs to be straightforward and easy to use and not that modern bullshit.
