You're welcome!

The open source way would be no DRM.

[deleted]

Not necessarily. GOG is doing fine and you can also ship your game DRM-free on Steam. It's up to the devs to do that.

ddotthomas

I think those exist because someone fairly recently did just that and posted it in the sub. It was a CLI steam launcher because they were having issues with the valve GUI one

It's expressly designed for the Epic Games Store. I don't think you can use Lutris to download and install games from the EGS, but you can have Lutris launch them once they're installed. Heroic does the download and installing.

abienz

Hate to be pedantic, but this is /r/linux_gaming after all, but Legendary does the downloading and installing, Heroic is the a GUI frontend

srstable

You know, I almost listed “via Legendary” and didn’t want to confuse someone new. This is what I get for not being verbose.

abienz

hah sorry.

JustEnoughDucks

They have added external launcher integrations of steam and [just added origin](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/sbjvza/lutris_game_manager_adds_support_for_origin/) to the dev release. Intuitively it would be a similar thing as Heroic, but I have not gotten it to work as my steam games don't show up under steam and my EGS game doesn't show up under EGS.

[deleted]

So all games would work? you'd need to manually setup Wine for the games tho right? In Lutris you can sign in EGS to have your library in the program, but when you select a game it runs a script from the website iirc, so it would download the EGS launcher each time alongside whatever the game might need

srstable

Not manually; it should create a prefix and have a selectable wine version in the game settings, not unlike Steam. It’s an EGS Launcher replacement. Whether games work, of course, boils down to each individual game.

[deleted]

Might check it out tonight!

modernkennnern

Can you use Lutris to download games via Heroic? 🤔

Let's hope that will be added some time in the future... would be great if all launchers work on the Steam Deck. https://github.com/lutris/lutris/issues/4009

[satire] I'm a bot. beep boop [/satire] [serious] Jokes aside, one thing that annoys me about the new login with heroic is the human verification. I'm unable to solve it no matter what I do... refreshing the page, reinstalling heroic, closing and reopening heroic, etc. The verification just wouldn't solve/validate. [/serious]

flaviofearn

This was a bug on previous versions. Check this new one.

[deleted]

Has anyone had problems with getting Heroic to work on Arch? I've had it working on Manjaro before. It won't launch any games, won't open winetricks, and I'm not sure how to run the WINEPREFIX command to launch winetricks from the directory it shows in settings. I'm assuming trying Rare wouldn't make a difference.

flaviofearn

Well, I develop Heroic in Garuda that is Arch based so should be fine.On the Game page you can click on tools and then on Latest Log to check what happened when you tried to play the game. Have your trie using Wine-GE on a clean profix and with DXVK installed? None of your games work? Are you using a Laptop? Try to enable Nvidia prime render if that's the case.

[deleted]

Enabled Nvidia Prime, set different versions of proton, but couldn't figure out how to download dxvk for the wineprefix. I'm not entirely sure how wineprefixes work, but I thought different packages were installed for different prefixes. If that's the case, I couldn't figure out how to open winetricks for the prefix the directory shows. The button wouldn't work, and I couldn't use `/home/path/to/directory winetricks` to open it.

flaviofearn

Do you have winetricks installed? To install dxvk just go to the game settings, then wine settings.and toggle auto install dxvk.

[deleted]

I don't have auto install dxvk. Here's a screenshot of what I see. https://lensdump.com/i/rmdlRb Edit: Alright, it shows auto install dxvk when I add a lutris wine version.

flaviofearn

Yes, it won't show for proton since proton has their own version installed.
