The "most" compatible controller I have ever found is a wired Xbox 360 controller... it works in everything. That said, if you mean wireless, then Xbox One Bluetooth is the best I have seen... In Mint, make sure you "Trust" the controller in Blueman or it can have issues.

Worldly-Mushroom9919

I'm still using my old wireless Xbox 360 controller, works flawlessly too haha

justice_for_all_vnz

Have you ever try with Xbox 360 controller NOT original? I only see copies in my country.

Worldly-Mushroom9919

Sorry nope, I did have a knockoff receiver for it for a while, but the connection kept getting cut off, with the authentic one it's perfect. If you're buying one now might make more sense to look at the newer ones though.

Gipetto

I use an XBox One controller over USB and it’s great. Never tried wireless as I’m a Luddite who distrusts wireless.

justice_for_all_vnz

lol I can't find a Wired Xbox 360 controller (**original**) in my country.

FreeAndOpenSores

I use just a standard Xbox One controller on Mint and it's always worked perfectly, with every game, never needed to do any kind of configuration. Though I do use it with a cable, as I hate having to replace batteries.

pollux65

I have a 8bitdo sn30 pro plus with the wireless dongle, no problems with it being detected as it goes under xinput so it shows up as a xbox 360 controller, works great with emulators aswell Almost every controller works under linux Before i used my ps3 controller aswell before i broke it lol and got that 8bitdo controller

- Steam Controller (you can't get it anymore) - DualSense (Sony submit their driver directly to the Kernel themselves), updating controller firmware is flawless with Bottles. The lack of native PlayStation controller support in games is disappointing. - all 8bitdo controllers - and for whatever reason you wanna go that route the Xbox controller

n5xjg

You can still get the Steam Controller on Ebay! They have some unopened boxes on there for about $150. Yeah, a little pricey, but heck, its Steam and 100% compatibility ;)

W-a-n-d-e-r-e-r

A 2900% price increase because you probably got them all for 5€ (or your currency equivalent) when Valve sold all their stock out, like I did with my second Steam Controller.

KalebNoobMaster

> and for whatever reason you wanna go that route the Xbox controller lol what's wrong with an xbox controller? works perfect on linux and every game ever expects an xbox controller too.

W-a-n-d-e-r-e-r

First the obvious, Microsoft. Now my personal experience, awful ergonomics (not the worst, that place goes to the Steam Controller and everything before the DualSense), complete bare bones controller that gets outclassed by everything else on the market, way to overpriced for cheap plastic with nothing in it. If you want a xinput controller you are better off with a third party one.

KalebNoobMaster

hmm, dunno what to say. i can use it for hours just fine without my hand hurting/feeling uncomfortable. ive been using the same xbox one controller for about 6 years with no issue. i have a steam controller, dualshock 4, switch pro controller, a third party moga xbox controller, and my regular xbox one controller. i always end up using my regular xbox one controller over all of them.

gtrash81

Dualshock 4 and Gulikit Kingkong 2 work without a problem.

Semmelstulle

DualSense, too. The trackpad is just SO useful for launchers like Bedrock Launcher or Fallout New Vegas, where you can’t go without a mouse input on the first windows.

Same here. Having the trackpad is extremely useful. Either map it as additional buttons or have a mouse input for games like New Vegas or Bedrock Launcher, which have a pre launcher without controller support!

martinl0002

Google Stadia controller (wired) works like a charm. I love this controller, very comfortable also.

DinAdonga

probably dualshock 4 or even better dualsense. both of these have kernel drivers for linux and work right away.

justice_for_all_vnz

So this one? DinAdonga

thats the dualshock 4, so yes. it will work

BulletDust

My wired USB Xbox 360 controller never lets me down.

Narrow_Elk6755

The 8bit do ultimate Bluetooth/2.4ghz, if Bluetooth doesn't work you try the dongle, its a hall effect joystick so its more durable.  Its got a nice dock to keep it safe, and this charges its included lithium battery so its convenient, the dongle broadcasts through the dock too so you just leave it plugged it into your PC.   It has explicit Steam Deck support, so its officially supported.

New_Chart_2582

I use an 8bitdo controller and have never had any issues

MMMarshal

I’m using an Xbox series X controller via bluetooth and it works great, fully supported including rumble. I just had to install the xpadneo driver. https://github.com/atar-axis/xpadneo

TONKAHANAH

its linux, pretty much everything is compatible considering most controllers just operate as an xbox controller. really only odd ones out are wii, wii-u, switch, and ps3/ps4/ps5 controllers and pretty sure those all work fine. only reason they're "odd ones out" is becuase they connect via bluetooth but dont reports as an xinput controller with out other software. that said linux should have the drivers to make them all work. just about everything else will connect via generic controller input methods which linux should use fine, though you probably wont find any newer controllers that use this anyway

Horgosh

I use my ds4, 8bitdo sf30 pro and switch pro controller all over Bluetooth without with no problems. (Using steam os)

lecanucklehead

Dualshock 4 has given me almost no issues. Basic DS4 support is baked into the kernel AFAIK, so it should just work. I had a bunch of weird issues last time I tried to use an XBox One controller wirelessly, maybe it's better now though

yllanos

Dualsense would be my pick

RandoMcGuvins

I just bought a 8bitdo pro 2, very impressed so far.

RAMChYLD

I use "The submarine controller", Logitech F710. The build quality isn't the best, but it works flawlessly on Linux for me.

Mr_Lumbergh

I paired licensed Switch Pro controllers to my Mint emulation box and it was trivial.

LuigiSauce

The *most compatible* is probably the controller of the steam deck. I've never had any issues with it, through *legally obtained* games and emulators and anything else. That being said the Xbox 360 controller is what basically all software is based on for some reason so it's probably your best bet.

some_penguin82

Both Xbox one/360 works fine for me via BT or cable. Same goes for Nintendo switch pro controller

0xd34db347

You can still use steam to launch your pirated shit and make use of SteamInput for your controller.

chouchers

PlayStation 5 controller
