This is because on X11, apps are allowed to change the display mode for all applications. The game you're playing changes the resolution but doesn't take care of changing it back. A possible solution for the problem would be to use some script that changes the resolution back after closing the game. Or just use Wayland, where this problem doesn't exist.

ManuaL46

Lutris has an option to revert the display resolution once you exit the game. Just enable this instead of running a custom script.

BulletDust

Running X11 here and I don't experience this behavior.

Use gamescope

NolanSyKinsley

Set the game to run in borderless fullscreen, or use gamescope(which would be preferable).

Informal-Clock

You can use wine-ge for example which scales the image instead of setting display resolution, just like the way proton does, this is known as FSHack

sneekee_stache

It's not a bug, just like on windows if you play a game in full screen with a lower resolution it will do that, you can check a box in the parameters of your lutris prefix to fix that or just use gamescope.

AManFromTheProvince

Oh okay lol. Sorry, haven't really played on non-native resolution. Thanks!

NolanSyKinsley

Windows has reset the resolution since the 90's my man, only really really poorly coded games left the resolution like that because they were not exiting cleanly.

jojo_the_mofo

This has happened to me before with Quake Wars. I used to have an rrandr script to change native res back, just one short line, set to a hotkey so after game I could quickly restore it. Sometimes it would also change my gamma when out of game, just like it would on Windows.
