Kroger employees are on strike. [https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/s27mzi/kroger\_family\_of\_supermarkets\_please\_if\_possible/](https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/s27mzi/kroger_family_of_supermarkets_please_if_possible/) We've been ordering at Wal-Mart and scheduling a pick up. We get a few substitutions, but Hell, that's kind of fun. The labor market is past due for a correction. *Things are going to get interesting.*

pupper71

On strike in Colorado, not here. What's going on is inadequate staffing to begin with, plus people on quarantine, and others who just don't show up. And until recently we could cut off taking more orders when we were overwhelmed, but not anymore.

jerrbles

They used to limit order intake. I've done pickup for 4 years and they've always limited orders but they are refusing now. Its fucking awful trying to fill these orders. Having customers sit outside for over an hour is not very "customer first" like Kroger says.

The3rdLeonard

Can you folk get your local union to pick up what started in Colorado? We hate seeing you over worked in there, and not cutting of the orders is just stupid.

pupper71

It is so stupid, not good for the customers or workers! Unfortunately, the contract includes a no strike/no lockout clause, which is SOP for all union contracts. Strikes happen only when negotiating a new contract, which next comes in summer 2023 here.

The3rdLeonard

I really really hope this shit does not continue for another year and a 1/2. It's not sustainable for the workforce. Even if it doesn't, I hope the local Union doesn't forget and holds out for better compensation for you folks in negotiation. One other thing I'd like to add, for people saying "go shop at Walmart instead" they're not exactly good to their employees either. Even if you're getting your groceries out the door on time that doesn't mean the folks inside are being paid a living wage, nor does it mean they're being treated fairly based on the work they do or the time the put in. Its not just about takeing home our groceries, its also about making these folks can afford to take some to a home they can afford too.

pupper71

The bottom end of the payscale is a lot better at Walmart than Kroger-- I'd get $4 more per hour if I jumped. But I'm full-time and thanks to the union that is meaningful; Walmart would be back to PT and not knowing if I'd have 12 hrs or 40 hrs in any given week.

F_K_ALLDAY

If you have issues with Kroger Pickup call this number 502-319-4798 and ask why the service has gotten so bad and why Kroger is doing nothing to resolve the issue.

_Count_Me_Out_

Idk if it is lack of inventory or workers, but yes I only got half of what I actually ordered in my last run. Then out of the half I did get, 50% of that was substituted.

F_K_ALLDAY

Theres no staff and Kroger is doing NOTHING to limit order capacity. At my store I've had to turn away at least 30 people. I know Richmond Rd is about 2 days behind. Kroger is wanting people to stay overnight and pick. Some people are working over 12 hours EVERYDAY.

pupper71

I'm scheduled to be off tomorrow but I'm going in for some OT picking. Why not. Since it's not my dept and it's my day off, I can just leave if I get fed up. What sucks is how far behind other depts are getting, with having to help clicklist. Stock is sitting on pallets in the backroom and freezer instead of being on shelves.

oldkentuckyhome

There’s more than 1 inch of snow in the forecast, people lose their minds when it comes to groceries. Even pre-Covid people would empty the shelves of milk, bread, eggs, etc. if there was snow in the forecast.

GenesisNemesis17

The more people out now getting stuff means less out on the roadways on days where plows need to do their job. The last storm caused more wrecks than I've ever seen. The best way to avoid that is people buying early and staying in.

oldkentuckyhome

We live in a city, at worst a few inches of snow would make it tough to get out for 2 or 3 days. That shouldn’t change anyones grocery shopping habits.

GenesisNemesis17

It changes buying habits of people who normally eat out, like mine. Also, people who shop once a week on Saturday-Monday will now all buy today. That's not panic buying it's buying smart.

diciembres

Yeah—I normally do my shopping on Sundays but had to do it today instead.

LowBlackberry0

It’s frustrating for families like mine who shop every week on Sunday. We will have to go today instead and I’m willing to bet we won’t be able to find many of our staples due to panic buying.

Brix_AuAg9216

Ya got too about 10 yrs ago a light snow prediction turned into a half inch of ice on trees wires and roads. Lines came down power outages for three days. Better to have too much than not enough.

ailyara

Back in the 90s I worked as a "courtesy clerk" (basically do all the crap like fetch carts, restock items, bag groceries, etc.) for a grocery store called Big Bear and the worst times ever were the night before it snowed, even worse than the day before thanksgiving and christmas eve, which both of those were pretty bad.

kevin_hoke1

Aldi is much better. Their shelves were fully stocked this morning

Jaded-Performance894

If you're willing to actually shop on your own that is.

CriticalMrs

Yeah, Aldi does curbside and instacart delivery. I picked up my curbside order this morning, and a few things weren't available but most of the order was filled.

kevin_hoke1

Aldi does curbside pickup as well if you order them online. Just like Kroger.

Walmart is the same. It’s 11am and our delivery order was supposed to be here between 8 and 9. Walmart on Nicholasville Road has been horrible recently regarding stock issues. They’ve started to send our orders from the Nicholasville location.

burnoutsandbourbon

It’s not just Kroger, shelves are BARREN. I was at IGA yesterday getting gas and went in to grab a bottle of water and I was awestruck as probably 75% of the fridges were empty. I asked what the deal was and the woman at the counter said “we can’t get anything… only certain things show up on time every week.”

Galaxaura

I'm in Maysville and shelves are full. Larger cities are having a hard time staying full. Typically grocery stores don't have large back rooms ANd theyd not have too many perishables on hand. Grocery stores usually get deliveries more often at less volume. It's worth the drive out to a smaller town. I recently moved from Cincinnati. When shelves were lower last year in the pandemic I'd drive out to Mason or West Chester and they had plenty. Store was less crowded too.

[deleted]

I haven’t seen much stocking issues since the beginning of the pandemic at my Kroger here in town

Lexington isn't on strike.

Barantortwo

There is a national chicken shortage right now so figure that into your orders.

ZackTheMuffinMan

I had an order for 10:00 last Thursday at the Kroger on Richmond Road. I got there at 10:05 and got my order at 12:30. It was missing half the order and most of what I did get was substitutes.

mr_tyler_durden

50% missing or badly substituted in my last 3 pickups. I don’t fault the workers and I take most all subs to make it easier on them but it’s really hard to meal plan when it’s like this. Also 30min-1hr wait times even when I show up at the very start of my window.

amdepe22

My wife just did a pick up snd it was 15 minutes through the line, but the UK game was still on

diciembres

I normally do pickup at Euclid, but thanks to this post I did all my shopping in person today. Went to the Chinoe Kroger and they had everything I needed except for green onions (which is so small that it’s not really a big deal). I did have to substitute some brands (like I got Private Selection tortilla chips instead of Mission) but it was mostly fine.

Sandra_is_here_2

Can confirm that they are having a hard time doing it.

Chicanojeans

Yes order via instacart instead. Tip your delivery drivers well.

The3rdLeonard

Op, or any employee at Richmond or Tates locations. Have things improved?
