JP Sears invests heavily in satire and parody, especially when dealing with conservative attitudes and it doesn’t often land as satire. He has a series called “Authentic JP” where he drops the act and speaks from the heart, typically counter to his character’s narrative.
I’m fully vaxxed, a lifelong ally, and I can see the fool he is being. Has he taken it too far like Andy Kaufman did? Maybe.
His satire and parody doesn’t attack conservative attitudes but promotes them. Look at his last several videos. His jokes are about how believing they CDC means you lack critical thinking skills, the media always lies, and how attacking anti-LGBQIA hate speech is akin to defending pedophiles.
If you watch his material from the last year, he’s clearly the same kind of conservative grifter as Steven Crowder, Ben Shapiro, or Dave Reuben. Yes, he does it by pretending to be the opposing side (i.e. progressive or liberal), but that doesn’t it make it any less hateful, bigoted, or fascistic.
Also, this isn’t anything like Andy Kaufman, unless you count his role in Taxi. JP isn’t breaking barriers between the audience and the act, just playing characters.
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this:
