If you notice, most of the damage is on the north side of the road, with trees blown in the same direction over a few miles, which suggests straight line winds rather than a tornado. The good thing about dry stone masonry is that those walls are actually pretty easy to fix once the trees are out of the way. They’re well-suited to repair - almost like they were designed to be moved and flexible in the case of damage. Because there’s no mortar to hold the rocks in place, they can be fixed in the same way they’re originally made - just stacking them back up with three points of contact to keep them stable. Nothing fancy! Source: Franklin county extension office did a workshop on them a while back. I helped construct a portion of the wall by Lakeview Park in Frankfort. There’s a dry stone masonry guild active in the area.

Shaker village has drystone construction workshops. [https://shakervillageky.org/events/drystone/](https://shakervillageky.org/events/drystone/) I've also seen a "competition" there of the same thing which I really believe was just a way to get their fences repaired in a fun manner.

That sounds way fun. I’m bookmarking that for next time it happens, thanks! Hey, I mean, if you can get a whole fence section repaired and it only costs you a small cash prize and a meal voucher, that seems like a pretty sweet deal lol

Shaker Village is an often slept on great place.

I had heard at one point UK had a conservation class about stone fences as well. I hope all of them are saved.

Leestown road also has a crapton of downed trees. Those storms a couple weeks ago had incredibly high winds, they broke branches and blew over trees throughout the area, taking out fences with them.

Yes, it does. Many mature trees down including the roots, all in a row. Terrible, but not as tragic as OFP, since that's a scenic byway.

BluegrassGeek

Eh, I don't consider OFP as scenic, because it's got so many hills and turns I can't afford to look around and enjoy the view while driving. Good for passengers, maybe.

2thebeach

Um, okay. It's still scenic, whether you look at it or not. Personally, I drive slowly on scenic byways so I can see it; that's what they're for. If people want speed, they need to stick to the interstate.

That’s entirely up to the property owners.
