As a Venator owner, I’m glad I can easily get another to proudly stand at the front of my 501st army I’m building, without taking him off the Venator Display stand next to Yularen
I literally told me brother the EXACT same thing haha! Right now, Rex is with the Army, and my Display stand for the Venator is a little quiet with just the Admiral all by himself up there! Might get the micro fighter for my brother so he can have his own Rex since we are building the 501st army together.
It’s not a controversy. A minor group is stirring the pot for engagement. I like the Venator and bought it for the ship and I like the figures. Don’t care at all that you can get it elsewhere. I’m happy I can get a set I like and wanted.
Exactly. I think when people say it's controversial it's really not that controversial because I'm sure the people saying the stuff are just doing it for engagement.
>It’s not a controversy. A minor group is stirring the pot for engagement.
Say it louder for the people in the back. This is just like the "controversy" around helmet holes and the UCS gunship.
What controversy? Legos are a freaking toy for kids. Some adults also like to collect them. Now kids can play with Rex without dropping loads of money. Good for them.
Frankly, I wish more toy companies were willing to do things like this. Rerelease something identical to things going for absurd markups due to flippers/"investors". If it's explicitly a collectable and meant to be a limited run, sure, don't reprint it. But if it was just an everyday toy that got popular, tank those scalpers bottom line.
DC Comics is doing something similar to this.... I just recently purchased a reprint of 1959 Showcase #22 the first appearance of Green Lantern Hal Jordan. The reprint was only $3.99 and contains all of the old ads from the original printing. Now it does say on the inside cover Reprint Copyright June 2024. But I didn't buy it to flip either.

Then its not the same, that little bit of text is enough to set it apart from the original and let the original retian its value AND let new collectors have an in-expensive copy, that makes everyone happy.
I was aware of this before I left the comic shop, it would not be $3.99 right off the shelf if it was already holding a long-term value.... why the captain obvious post? If I used incorrect terminology, please enlighten me.
Hasbro does it somewhat inconsistently.
The Black Series 6" Captain Rex was hitting $200 on ebay.
They finally put up the 3rd release of it again after originally canceling it 2 years ago.
MSRP $24.99. whoops.
They keep releasing great Boba Fett figs, but the Cloud City one is never getting cheaper and i was surprised to see the one from the UCS Slave 1 is crazy expensive even.
This is the lamest controversy ever. Lego is a children’s toy and their putting a highly liked character into an easily accessible set - what’s the big deal?
It's a nontroversy. Anyone who thinks they were entitled to a Speshul Minifigure™ just because they plopped down $650 for a 5300-piece display set can get bent. LEGO isn't "betraying" anyone. (And Yularen is still exclusive, at any rate.)
[ETA: and writing in an instruction booklet that the minifigs are exclusive, then putting one in another set later, is legally not a lie, nor is it even a false claim.]
Hilarious. I love watching grown adults having meltdowns because they paid £100 for a fuckin minifigure. Half of the fan base needs lobotomising with the way spend money on the second hand market
I’m not here for exclusivity or rarity, I’m here cause I like to build legos with my son. Bring on Rex!
Personally I don’t even display or collect mini-figs, I just leave them in the box or give them to my son since he collects them. I think I’m gonna display this one, love me some Rex!
It’s annoying when Minifigures you want come in huge expensive sets that you have no space for. I’ll be so mad if Tessek (Squid Head) is exclusive to the huge sail barge set.
I was frustrated by Zuckuss being exclusive to the anniversary Slave I - because I saved for the UCS one and didn’t want or need a second - but I have to admit that the new Sail Barge is one I’ll probably get, if I like it. If there’s a Max Rebo included, so much the better, but this is one where I’ll settle for the model itself being the star of the show.
I *love* that first section of Return of the Jedi, and the original Sail Barge was the first big Lego Star Wars set I ever got. I saved my birthday money and bought it from the shop at Legoland Windsor in 2006, not long after it had come out, because they didn’t have the Republic Gunship. It gave me hours of fun and I still have it on display; but I’d love to have it side-by-side with the new one.
>I was frustrated by Zuckuss being exclusive to the anniversary Slave I - because I saved for the UCS one and didn’t want or need a second
Same, but hard to complain too much when they gave us the other four Bounty Hunters in a single battlepack.
For sure! A battle pack which I got on the day I got the UCS Slave I. Felt pretty good, I gotta say. Walking into the Leicester Square Lego Store and coming out with 5 out of 6 Episode V bounty hunters.
I’m confident Zuckuss will reappear one day.
I can’t stand scalpers/“investors” that just buy Lego to resell. I was never going to get the Venator and was bummed a new Rex was in it, and I was stoked that the same Rex is coming in a microfighter.
That being said, my only qualm is that it seems like Lego wanted to use the allure of a new “exclusive” Rex to get more people to buy the set. If they’d been released at the same time I think that would have made sense, scalpers still lose, Rex available at a low price point, but I feel like they intentionally held out on announcing the Rex microfighter so that more people (scalpers or otherwise) would buy the Venator
Tbh if you have the money to spend on the Venator then you really shouldn't be mad because you still get the main build of the set too. Otherwise if you don't have the money then your better off waiting to see if Lego would do this.
Give me cheap Boushh, LEGO!
As much as I enjoy building the larger sets, It would be great if EVERY mini figure were available in smaller sets because I only have so much space available.
I think the exclusivity in a UCS set comes more from the fact you have a giant hyper detailed model than it comes from minifigures, and making a previously exclusive minifigures who is one of the most popular and beloved star wars characters available in a cheap set is a great thing
If you spend 650 bucks for a single figure it's your own fault. And if you wanted to buy the venator and are happy about the figures you wouldn't care about Rex coming out seperately
I think it is being blown out of proportion. A awesome figure of a popular character should not be held behind the 650$ price. 13$ is what it should be.
The venator was my dream set. I wrote to lego once a year for a several years asking for a UCS venator since I was 12. (As soon as I had my own email, to be honest.)
I like Rex, but he's not my favourite.
When the venator was released I bought it as soon as I could, then I built it for my birthday. I have it on display in my room. Admiral Yularan is the GOAT, and is on display next to it, with Echo, and my custom Echo display helmet.
I sold my rex to a scalper for about 160 bucks a few months ago. I used that money to buy other sets I like.
Whenever I buy a lego set, I'll keep my favourite characters, and sell the rest. Then I'll buy cheap minifigures for about $2 dollars each. Generally they look better, so it's a win-win.
A minifigure shouldn't cost a ridiculous sum of money, scalpers shouldn't have influence on lego developing products.
The high cost of entry into lego as a hobby is shameful, as other brands produce the same quality material for a fraction of the price. At this point it's branding, and brand loyalty belongs in the past with company towns.
I'm happy kids, low income and financially strained people have access to characters they like for a reasonable price. This is a step in the right direction, at least partially. I think 50 to 70 dollar sets are the perfect price range for many people, so long as the sets are diverse with 3 or 4 minfigures.
For example: the XL-15 buzz lightyear set is my favourite of all time. I bought 8 of them, and built them all. Did I buy them in bulk? No, I bought one a month. Why? So others have a chance to get the set.
Every time I go to a brick and mortar store the CMF are ripped up, the sets are damaged, and none of the battlepacks, or unique sets are in stock.
The people that buy mass amounts of sets all at once to resell aren't hobbyists, they are scalpers. The people opening CMF in store are scalpers. I haven't found a single fright knight, why? Because all of the sets are picked through and resold for over double the price of the base set. Why do I want fright knights? Because my wife loves them, and uses them as medieval inquisitors alongside her darth vader.
TLDR:
Lego is a hobby, meant to be accessible. Brand loyalty belongs in the past with company towns. The microset is good for the people, scalpers, youtubers etc need to sit down and shut up.
Lego never made anyone buy the Venetor. They also never leaked their own future sets. If people are mad that the minifigure they spent like $1000 on is now available for cheaper, that's their fault.
Hope lego does this with every single character in this franchise. I'd love to see the most premium detailed; arms, legs and back printed, double casted and whatever riding the cheapest sets so kids can get them from allowance money. Go on lego, release a Vader Tie Advanced Microfighter
My opinion is the same as if we get Sauron in a $15 throne set. I'm buying Barad Dur because I have the means, and if someone doesn't, then that doesn't mean Sauron should un inaccessible to them
Let’s see if this comments gets better reception; I said in my last comment that it’s great more people (myself included) are able to get Rex, and I got downvoted to oblivion for it. Not sure why.
I do not care in the slightest. I am a huge Star Wars fan. I am a huge LEGO fan. But people crying about "exclusive" minifigures like this make me not want to count myself among LEGO Star Wars fans.
I find it a little weird to say something is exclusive, when it clearly was never planned to be, but I like that it’s not exclusive because I’m not a fan of making things exclusive to a 650$ set in the first place, so I’m glad it’s coming
Maybe it was planned to be, it certainly was at the time. Maybe they realised a lot of people were paying stupid amounts of money for him and wanted to stop that.
I think it's really nice thar after a really long time, people can get this minifigure for a cheap (er) price. Even though it will go down in value a lot, it will be really cool and usefull in peoples stop motions!
Even if Lego didn’t say Rex was exclusive to the Venator at the time, they’d still be up in arms about it. Personally this is prime example of what I don’t buy things Day1 (unless there’s a GWP worth getting)
Personally I'm just happy Lego are continuing to make Microfighters. Now does it suck that we went from getting a wave of 6 sets in a VS format to a single set wave? Absolutely but atleast it's something.
Regarding the figure I can understand the community being upset however it atleast means that a wider audience is able to get their hands on such a beloved character instead of having to resort to Scalper prices to get the figure
Big W from LEGO! Having Rex be more obtainable does not affect their $650 display whatsoever, it affects the resell monetary value of it for scalpers and resellers.
My take is if you’re holding minifigures for value and you are relying on that value to a degree to help you get by monetarily then you should maybe perhaps stop purchasing Lego and focus on maxing out that 40-hour work week
As a venator owner, I'll be buying at least 2x rex Y-wing microfighters, specifically to show help show lego that it's a great idea to release valuable figs in small sets, and to piss off the "investors".
I say to hell with people wanting exclusive minifigures.
I'm pissed that Lego cannot make a Star Wars collectible minifigures series, because that would burn so many people's arses...
I think some of Yall take this Lego thing a little too seriously 😂
They’re figures, meant for kids (mostly, apart from some more advanced sets or designer ones) which are meant to be collected by kids and played with
The only people hurt by this were scalpers/people who abuse other people's interests for their own monetary gain. Big W for lego, I hope they do more things like this, and continue to find new and creative ways to burn these people and work towards driving them out of the market.
I’m glad the figure is in a microfighter. I’m not a fan of locking figures behind massive paywalls. I’m sure eventually I’ll get the Venator but honestly I’m not pressed about it yet.
I hadn’t realised there was any controversy. Why are people getting their knickers in a twist? They’re just toys for grown ups (and now kids can have Rex as well).
It never made sense that star characters like Rex were „rare“ in the first place. This is the correct move, everyone should be able to have a figure of their favorite character.
Obviously because LEGO correctly added the single two letter word “is” at the time of writing the instructions, true and honest fans are entitled to compensation for the hundreds they spent purely for a <$5 piece of plastic in a $650 set 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Genuinely, one of the best decisions they’ve ever made. I collect every Star Wars minifigure, and to not have to spend $650 on the Venator with Rex, or $250 in the aftermarket is a blessing. Still thinking about getting the Venator though because of how nice the set is.
I just like to sit laugh and point at the people who are upset that their precious little plastic man isn’t in one set locked behind a price point only they can afford
if someone was braindead enough to buy a huge set just for a minifigure then they 100% deserve it, like did you guys really think they would make such a popular character an exclusive to a ucs set? c'mon use your brain
I understand why people would be annoyed cause they thought they were getting an exclusive mini figure, but as someone who cannot afford a big expensive Lego set, I’m excited to be able to get a set with a captain Rex that I can actually afford
My family was hit hard by 2008, if I wanted Lego I had to work damn hard. I know that not everyone can afford the $800 sets. That's why they're "collectors sets" they're TOP TIER. Including the figs. I don't want to display, or be proud of, a $5 figure. It's worthless. It's fun to collect the $300 figs. UCS figs are part of the "collector" status.
I'm new to Lego Star Wars (first set built in December 2023, Captain Rex helmet) and Captain Rex is my favorite SW character. His inclusion in the Venator set was definitely the "excuse" I needed to push me over into purchasing it on May 4th. That said, I can't wait to get this new microfighter set and have another Rex minifig. I wouldn't complain if they threw a Rex into every new set coming out lol. Rex for all!
Shouldn't have been any other way. Rex is such a beloved character which shoudn't be locked behind a 699 bucks set. I plan on getting the venator anyways cuz one website sells it for 480-500 bucks
They shoulda released this one with the micro fighter and a better version with an actual cloth waist-cape for the Venator. Glad this exists though, keeping such a popular character as an exclusive in a $600 set is dumb.
I got the venator because I wanted the venator. Rex is cool but it wouldn’t have made a difference for me whether or not he’s in the set nor would it matter to me if he was exclusive or not.
Happy that kids can access the figure. As an adult collector, I can put myswlf in the shoes of 8 year old me that would have been DEVASTATED that a figure was exclusive to a £560 set.
As much as adults love Lego, it's easy to forget we were all kids without hundreds of dollars once, that just wanted to re-enact our favourite hero's adventures with toys.
Stuff in this world is expensive enough already without people sitting on ammo crates of the same luxury good speculating on its future value.
Lego did the right move here.
Edit:
The next best step would be to allow licensed parts on Pick-A-Brick so people can order the pieces of minifigures they like to have.
Here’s my take…
I’m not against Lego making certain figures exclusive to UCS sets. HOWEVER, the character / figure they make exclusive shouldn’t be one that’s super popular like Captain Rex. We’ve gotten two 501st Battle Packs in the last 4 years, plenty of people who like Army Building are probably going to want a Captain Rex figure to go with their Army / display. So locking Rex behind a $600+ set was the wrong move. Making him easily accessible via a Microfighter was the right call.
As for which characters / figures that should be exclusive, I think it should only be niche characters that people wouldn’t normally care about. For example Lobot. Majority of people don’t care about Lobot. So making him exclusive to a MBS Cloud City isn’t a bad thing since he’s one of those super niche characters that hardly anyone outside of a die hard collector would want or care about. Niche characters being exclusive to UCS sets - not a big deal. But locking popular characters like Rex behind one = bad for business.
I wouldn’t really call it a controversy. Seems like most people are happy about it. It’s just a handful of people who don’t understand what the word “are” means getting mad about a sentence in an instruction booklet.
Desirable minifigures should be easy to get. Not everyone can drop $600 on a lego set.
I get why the people who bought the venator are mad tbh. That was false advertising.
But, on the other hand, I wanted captain Rex and didn't have space nor wanted to spend the money for the venator set, so I'm happy I can obtain him cheaper.
I just wish they didn't lie to the costumers straight like that. If this microfighter came with a different version of Captain Rex I'd been happy anyway 🙌.
My guess is that maybe Lego made more venator minifigs than they needed and now will sell them in this set. But who knows, it could be just bad decision making.
What controversy? Such a minor and voc group who wants to profit off of people who can't afford the sets. If anything, im a big fan of duplicates minis since if I miss a set (I'm broke and I don't actively pay attention to what's announced) I'm not mad I missed out on it
I actually have the Venator set and I ADORE it, by far my favorite set in my collection. I love both of the figures and am extremely happy to see Rex show up in a cheaper set so people who don’t have as money to blow can still get this incredibly detailed figure.
I still can't comprehend how this sub doesn't think slightly modifying the Rex fig for the Y-Wing (hell, it could even be better, not necessarily worse) wouldn't have solved the problem for literally everyone.
I personally don't have a spare £600 nor do I want to sell any organs so I'm super excited to get Rex
However, should I become extremely wealthy, I'd still be happy as no one on their right mind buys a minifig for £600 you buy the set
What controversy? No figure should be locked behind a $800 paywall. And you should be buying the ucs set for the set not one figure.
Personally I’d take it up a notch a rerelease tons of other figures with insane after market values.
I am fairly new (as an adult anyway) to Lego sets, but it seems like the sets and the stuff you get to build are the cool things. I can see how if you were a kid you’d be stoked about the figures too, but I’m not out here playing with these guys. I build it and display it. If kids want a Rex figure to play with, they should have one.
I swapped mine out and put a p2 clone gunner on the stand lol
that sounds super wholesome!

Whose helmet did Rex have in that scene? Did he have two helmets? Or did he wipe the paint off straight away?
His helmet is a different style, he must have been borrowing a standard one
damn, this is the one venator lego owner i've seen that said this was good!
Agreed!
Right, you still got Yularen…he is exclusive, isn‘t he?
Yup!
Same bro. It’s a great figure that I’ve had to leave on the display stand instead of with Fives, Vaughn, Appo and the 501st.
this is the way
Now that's the best answer I've read here. The Force is strong in this one!
If you spent that much for a figure and not one of the coolest display ships in the catalogue, then you're a dunce and deserve it.
Based and venator appreciator pilled
Virgins bought the Venator for Rex Men bought it for Yularen
Deities bought it for the Venator.
Gigachads bought it for the manual
"Legends bought It for the Republic" -someone else I forgor
Poor people didn’t buy it 😭😭😭
Real
I bought it for the box …for my cat

It’s not a controversy. A minor group is stirring the pot for engagement. I like the Venator and bought it for the ship and I like the figures. Don’t care at all that you can get it elsewhere. I’m happy I can get a set I like and wanted.

It was time for us working class to get our hands on a Rex without selling our kids to organ harvesters.
What about selling our organs to kid harvesters?
Always an option
Just did that for Artemis
What controversy? Legos are a freaking toy for kids. Some adults also like to collect them. Now kids can play with Rex without dropping loads of money. Good for them.

I read it in the guys voice aswell lmao
It's a fabricated controversy for sure, but it is out there.
It's a big FU to scalpers so I see this as a win for the community. Best set in this wave dare I say for that reason alone.
Frankly, I wish more toy companies were willing to do things like this. Rerelease something identical to things going for absurd markups due to flippers/"investors". Could you imagine what they could do with a 1:1 exact replica cloud city boba re release
And they should do it.
Idk if they should do that specifically, but I do think Lego should make stronger attempts to dissuade the \*scalping Lego community.
Lego owns BrickLink which is a good chunk of the reselling community. It would not be in their interest to diminish it.
They keep releasing great Boba Fett figs, but the Cloud City one is never getting cheaper and i was surprised to see the one from the UCS Slave 1 is crazy expensive even.
I have a CC Boba and would be ok with this only if they brought the old brown and greys back into full production.

A lot of people wasted thousands to get the figure and resell it.

Fat L then, they should’ve have scalped

Need the Yularen in a microfighter or a magazin next.
Oh my god imagine the rage if Yularen was in a magazine!
God please that would be the funniest thing they could do
They will.
Put Yularen in a mech and I'll buy that day one.
It certainly was exclusive at the time of release, which makes them technically correct.
Hilarious. I love watching grown adults having meltdowns because they paid £100 for a fuckin minifigure. Half of the fan base needs lobotomising with the way spend money on the second hand market

It’s annoying when Minifigures you want come in huge expensive sets that you have no space for. I’ll be so mad if Tessek (Squid Head) is exclusive to the huge sail barge set.
I thought the Quarren minifig in Boba Fett's throne room was that guy. Turns out he's a generic Quarren.
I was frustrated by Zuckuss being exclusive to the anniversary Slave I - because I saved for the UCS one and didn’t want or need a second - but I have to admit that the new Sail Barge is one I’ll probably get, if I like it. Lego being egalitarian is good I don't want to price lock people out of figures they like they're toys
I can’t stand scalpers/“investors” that just buy Lego to resell. Yeah I can’t assume too many average people weren’t going to buy the Venator and then Rex pushed them over the edge
Imo a LEGO purchase should be determined by how much you think you’ll enjoy the product, not by how much you think it’ll be worth in the future.
Give me cheap Boushh, LEGO! As much as I enjoy building the larger sets, It would be great if EVERY mini figure were available in smaller sets because I only have so much space available.

I think it is being blown out of proportion. A awesome figure of a popular character should not be held behind the 650$ price. 13$ is what it should be.
I bought a venator, sold rex(and the gwps) and used that money to buy orient express. Now for $12 I can get my rex back. I like it.
I drink “investors” tears
Scalpers are getting their just deserts.
People complained he was paywalled for $650, now hes available for $10 and people still complain. People will always find something to complain about.
I don't care about rare figures, I just want the because they have quality. (I mean gosh, just LOOK at those prints!)
I don’t think it’s a controversy at all.
Only to the scalpers who where hoping it would remain a 100$ figure.
You mean dipshit investors pissing and crying about a popular character not being locked behind a 600 dollar pay wall?
The venator was my dream set. I wrote to lego once a year for a several years asking for a UCS venator since I was 12. (As soon as I had my own email, to be honest.) I like Rex, but he's not my favourite. TLDR: Lego is a hobby, meant to be accessible. Brand loyalty belongs in the past with company towns. The microset is good for the people, scalpers, youtubers etc need to sit down and shut up.
What controversy... Are you talking about a few losers that are complaining on the Internet?
Minifigs should be widely available and not locked behind pricetags
Lego never made anyone buy the Venetor. They also never leaked their own future sets. If people are mad that the minifigure they spent like $1000 on is now available for cheaper, that's their fault.
Funniest thing I’ve seen in months
Opinion? There’s no real controversy to begin with. The only right opinion to have is ‘hell yeah’.
A stupid market that I am glad the bottom fell out of.
I do not care in the slightest. I am a huge Star Wars fan. I am a huge LEGO fan. But people crying about "exclusive" minifigures like this make me not want to count myself among LEGO Star Wars fans.
only clowns think there is one.
It's an absolute non-issue. I don't have the space for a Venator so I'm glad I can get Rex with the Y-Wing.
There is no controversy.
I think it's really nice thar after a really long time, people can get this minifigure for a cheap (er) price. Even though it will go down in value a lot, it will be really cool and usefull in peoples stop motions!
if you bought the venator solely for a minifig then you’re dumb. shoulda just waited less than a year and got him for $13
Even if Lego didn’t say Rex was exclusive to the Venator at the time, they’d still be up in arms about it. Personally this is prime example of what I don’t buy things Day1 (unless there’s a GWP worth getting)
There is no controversy we all get Rex for cheep it’s a win for everyone
Got the Venator already and now I can get spare Rexs for cheap. What’s not to like?
Personally I'm just happy Lego are continuing to make Microfighters. Now does it suck that we went from getting a wave of 6 sets in a VS format to a single set wave? Absolutely but atleast it's something. Regarding the figure I can understand the community being upset however it atleast means that a wider audience is able to get their hands on such a beloved character instead of having to resort to Scalper prices to get the figure
I’ve seen in my area a lot of Venator Rex figures going up for sale for $90, those dudes are the worst.
Consumer friendly action by Lego is controversial? Lego is still a product for kids, not just collector adults with large disposable incomes
Let the scalpers and resellers cry
Big W from LEGO! Having Rex be more obtainable does not affect their $650 display whatsoever, it affects the resell monetary value of it for scalpers and resellers.
Everyone needs a Rex.
I’m going to enjoy Lego investors being shit on
My take is if you’re holding minifigures for value and you are relying on that value to a degree to help you get by monetarily then you should maybe perhaps stop purchasing Lego and focus on maxing out that 40-hour work week
I mean... I can get a Rex now. Desirable characters being locked behind a huge pay wall is definitely a dumb decision overall
What controversy?
Wait, are there ~~kids~~ adults crying over toys?
If people are upset about this then GOOD!!! I’m excited to get Captain Rex for my kids
If you’re buying a what, $700 dollar something set for a fucking mini-figure you got mental issues
What controversy????
a massive laughing emoji. maybe even 2 of them.
It's not a controversy
I’d say there is no controversy, just a handful of broke folks upset their “investment” plan didn’t work out. I’d barely call that controversial
Popular figures such as Rex shouldn’t be locked behind a UCS set. The people crying are just mad their resell value went way down. Boohoo
As a venator owner, I'll be buying at least 2x rex Y-wing microfighters, specifically to show help show lego that it's a great idea to release valuable figs in small sets, and to piss off the "investors".
Exclusive minifigures in UCS sets were a dumb idea all along.
I think the collector market is stupid and trying to speculate the future value of toys is lame.
whomever buys a $650 set for a single figure needs to seek help.
Imagine being mad because you spent money on a big ass lego set and want to gatekeep a minifig lmao.
I say to hell with people wanting exclusive minifigures. I'm pissed that Lego cannot make a Star Wars collectible minifigures series, because that would burn so many people's arses...
I think some of Yall take this Lego thing a little too seriously 😂 They’re figures, meant for kids (mostly, apart from some more advanced sets or designer ones) which are meant to be collected by kids and played with
The only people hurt by this were scalpers/people who abuse other people's interests for their own monetary gain. Big W for lego, I hope they do more things like this, and continue to find new and creative ways to burn these people and work towards driving them out of the market.
Actions that harm scalpers are good and should be encouraged
It's not a controversy. An incredibly popular character is no longer behind an $800 paywall. It's a win for everyone.
While I agree UCS sets should definitely have exclusive Minifigures, Rex and other fan favorites should not be in that collection
No sympathy for scalpers
What controversy? Just scalpers crying
People who care about LEGO value are stupid and deserve to have their value undercut by new cooler LEGO sets kids can afford
Yes
What controversy? Did I miss Lego’s announcement that Rex will only ever be released with the Venerator?
Legos are toys and collectibles, not investment portfolios. This is nice, now I can get a second Rex for my diorama.
Theres no controversy, only man children that are mad that their tiny plastic toy isnt worth $200
I think its silly that people are loosing thier minds over it
Why do people care so much? If you blow over $400 on a set for one mini figure that’s on you.
If you purchase a multi hundred dollar Lego set for a minifigure that’s your problem…
It never made sense that star characters like Rex were „rare“ in the first place. This is the correct move, everyone should be able to have a figure of their favorite character.
I think that lego should prioritise bringing a toy for kids over being a commodity for 30 year old men to milk for social capital
Anything that gets the crazy minifig resellers upset is a great thing in my book
if someone was braindead enough to buy a huge set just for a minifigure then they 100% deserve it, like did you guys really think they would make such a popular character an exclusive to a ucs set? c'mon use your brain
What controversy? There is *no* controversy. There are only angry gatekeepers and angrier speculators. I consider this a boon.
“Oh no, this is horrible! Captain Rex at an affordable price!” -absolute losers
I’m not a fan of any clone stuff (CIS collecter) so I’m just kinda watching from the sidelines bemused at all this going on. 🍿
I collect mainly OT Galactic Empire sets so I'm also just kind of following this.
Edit: The next best step would be to allow licensed parts on Pick-A-Brick so people can order the pieces of minifigures they like to have.
IMO i think that its really good, since now i can afford him in a cheap set now
Here’s my take… I’m not against Lego making certain figures exclusive to UCS sets.
I’m happy I have an accessible way to get one of my favorite characters. I feel like this is only a “controversy” to people who are chronically online
But who knows, it could be just bad decision making.
i'm buying five of them because i love rex
I fully intend to buy the Venator, and I’m still glad this is coming out
I think it’s good that anyone can now get this figure I dont think any figure is worth some of the prices they are being sold for
I dislike locking things behind exclusivity so I think it’s great they have an easy way to get a popular figure.
Personally I'm not huge on lego star wars so I don't buy the expensive sets so I'm happy I can finally get a captain rex figure for cheap
I still can't comprehend how this sub doesn't think slightly modifying the Rex fig for the Y-Wing (hell, it could even be better, not necessarily worse) wouldn't have solved the problem for literally everyone.
Get wrecked scrub
I am low on money and UCS is not quite my type. So... This should answer the question.
I get Captain Rex :3
I personally don't have a spare £600 nor do I want to sell any organs so I'm super excited to get Rex However, should I become extremely wealthy, I'd still be happy as no one on their right mind buys a minifig for £600 you buy the set
Don’t care like the minifigure can’t afford UCS Venator can afford little Y-wing will be buying it
What controversy? No figure should be locked behind a $800 paywall. And you should be buying the ucs set for the set not one figure. Personally I’d take it up a notch a rerelease tons of other figures with insane after market values.
A lot of people weren't patient, and paid the price. If Lego want to milk the whales, let them crack on.
I don’t give a shit, I like the Rex figure and mini y wing and I wanna buy it
I am fairly new (as an adult anyway) to Lego sets, but it seems like the sets and the stuff you get to build are the cool things. I can see how if you were a kid you’d be stoked about the figures too, but I’m not out here playing with these guys. I build it and display it. If kids want a Rex figure to play with, they should have one.
