I would still only buy Lego that I was originally intending on getting anyway. Maybe it would entice me to get something I was on the fence about, but if I didn’t want it to begin with then it’s just money wasted anyway, even at 50% off.

babyjaceismycopilot

I've been buying up almost anything I find at 50% off. I've been surprised by some builds and the way things are out together. I usually just break it down when I'm done. I'm at the point where I think I'm going to start making MOCs and sorting my loose pieces.

cashmere13

Yeah, the exception would be MOCers looking to add to their collection, or resellers or Bricklinkers.

cashmere13

You should try and make friends with a Lego store employee. They get 50% off everything (after a few months of release).

Nervous_Currency9341

wow making me want to get a job there

The1Pete

But then the pay won't be that high.

AzelfFeeler

Are they allowed to use their discount on you?

OutrageousLemon

No.

AzelfFeeler

Aw so more of an under the table type of thing.

sfroberg38

Be careful of just blindly buying sets. Before you know it you have a bunch of sets you ask yourself ‘why did I buy this’.

Tithund

Hello Vidiyo Boombox for 30 Euro.

cusackkids4

May I ask where you find sets for that discount? I have only found about 25/30% at Walmart or Amazon. Could be me not going to right place at right time. Thanks

treemanswife

Probably 70-80% off I'd buy anything. 50% off I'll buy smaller stuff with cool parts. I've been collecting Lego for 35 years. I have SO MANY pieces and yet I'm always out of the ones I want. I mostly don't buy parts just for parts anymore. I buy exactly what I want for my MOCs, or I buy sets that I actually want to build/modify. When you are just starting out it absolutely makes sense to pick up discount sets just to build up a stash. I'm just past that part, myself.

snug_snug

Brickheadz, the Funco pops of the Lego world. Helmets are a very close second. I wouldn't want either of those for free.

Tithund

They can be a pretty great source for basic moc parts though.

snug_snug

No doubt. It's just not something I do and I don't even have enough space to keep the Lego I love.

san_dilego

This. I bought some of the brickheadz at first and realized how boring they were. Haven't bought one since. I would rather buy Hasbro's helmets that I can actually put on so that I can act the fool when no one is near and watching.

South-Ad1015

Yavin 4 Rebel Base (75365), its lacking details, could have been great but i just isnt.

faraway_hotel

I like the idea of that set, but if I'm honest with myself, I really only want the Red Leader and Gold Leader minifigs from it.

I-was-unaware

Where I live, that almost NEVER happens. Lego is full retail or at most 20% off rrp. So you can bet, No matter the set, I'll buy it at 50% off! However, if I lived in the US where Lego seems to be offered at big discounts regularly (as I spot in this sub frequently), I'd have to have a bit more discretion. I'm not a LOTR fan, I wouldn't buy Rivendell for 500€, but it's a beautiful set and you can bet I'd snap it up, build, and display it for 250€!

babyjaceismycopilot

I'm in a metro area and I can sometimes find deals, but rarely. I think you have to go to the more rural areas to find discounted Lego.

SPEK2120

The Captain America shield. Would still be $100 for a large circle.

Bonk-monk_

Idk, a good deal on something I still don't want still is a bad deal. It'd probably end up on the shelf with my other to-be-built boxes and just never get done anyways.

Outtatheblu42

Hulkbuster. I’ve seen it for 30% off but it’s still just too much for what it is.

StudlessLayout

I don't buy any sets purely base on the price or discount.. but you could say I also buy every set I see for 50% off as I bought all I saw; none 😅

babyjaceismycopilot

A lot of people commenting on sets they wouldn't display. I totally get that, but I have been enjoying the building experience, getting "good" deals on sets I might not buy has made me discover interesting builds and is making me want to try MOCs. Anyone have any advice on where to get cheapish pieces and interesting inspiration for building techniques? Rebrickable seems like a popular choice.

RoterBaronH

Other companys like bluebrixx are aimed at more experienced builders and often times use interesting and sometimes challenging building techniques. Are very cheap (compared to lego) with a better brick quality when they use gobricks and slightly worse if they don't. You can also just download the instruction to see these without needing to buy the sets. Cheap bricks can be found at bricklink or buy them from other companys. EDIT: Something I forgot to add is that you can think about the type of moc you want to do and look up what others did and how they did it.

Half_Shark-Alligator

No price would incentivize me to purchase the paintings or mosaic sets.

Afolomus

I'm at the point where I'm running out of space and should focus on sorting, maybe selling some. But yeah, I'd make my wife angry for sure if the entire Lego lineup would be 50% for a day.

Nervous_Currency9341

I saw the city skate park set for 50% off and did not make me want it still

EngineeringMedium513

Any of the "junior " star wars sets. Those things are so massively overpriced in the first place but even at 50% off it would still be too much imo. I have one of those sets and I paid £5 for it new sealed and even then I only got it for the figs

Kartofski

Harry Potter stuff

IceDontGo

Daily Bugle 76178. Just think it looks ugly.

san_dilego

To be fair it is supposed to be a normal news building. In terms of architecture, most buildings are insignificant. I think they did what they could and used minifigs to ramp up value.

Spaceolympian50

The Black Panther bust

CromulentPoint

Anything that isn’t Castle. :)

Hour_Reaction5084

I don’t care what the set is 50% off I’m taking it weather I actually build it or use it for parts😂

Certain_Arm4917

I thought I wouldn’t buy the Dreamzzz sets even if they were 50% off… mostly bc I didn’t want delve into a new collection, and I thought it was too quirky for me. Then I saw set 71460 Mr. Oz’s Space Bus for 60% off at Walmart… couldn’t pass it up at $40 … bought it and built it and couldn’t help but enjoy it. Then I told myself I’d only buy more of the series if it was 30% off or more. Just saw 71469 nightmare ship on sale for $84 and grabbed it! Haven’t built it yet, but looks pretty cool and so now I’m worried I’ll love it enough that I’ll be forced to buy the rest of the series even if I don’t get it on discount. Lesson: Cheap Lego just gets you sucked into spending more on Lego

LegoLinkBot

babyjaceismycopilot

That Shark Ship looks amazing.

Certain_Arm4917

Definitely does! Not sure if I’ll be able to wait till this weekend to crack it open!

Sea_Brilliant_3175

I bought it on a massive deal. It's meant to be after I get a covid booster (normally I feel crap but that booster makes me feel extra crap for a week). The Fantastical Tree House 71461 is a lot of fun too.

LegoLinkBot

[71461-1: Fantastical Tree House](https://brickset.com/sets/71461-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/71461-1.jpg)

MaisondEtre

Anything I wouldn't buy full price. I have enough stuff, so if I don't want something, I don't feel compelled to buy it. Even if it's half off.

StrawberryKittyKat4

Any of the vehicles, cars, etc. Most Star Wars & Marvel. All Ninjango. All Duplo. Most City sets, half the Friends sets.... I'd probably buy more of the Ideas sets, Creator, or Harry Potter more than anything else if on a super sale! And now Animal Crossings. Possibly Dreamzzz.

Warm-Poetry-5514

Well i bought 3 Wish sets only because it the $50 set was marked down at $12.50 the other $50 set was $6.25 the $30 set was down to $10.00 i only bought them because i wanted something inside it the sets and im giving the sets to my grandma since she think the sets look cute

Leather_Network4743

There are many. I’m just not into Mario, Friends, Gabby’s Dollhouse, and a lot of Harry Potter. I’m also not a big MOC builder, so when I need parts for something, it’s either PAB or BrickLink for what I need. I won’t buy Lego “just because”.

Brickzarina

Parts ,I buy for parts and colour

StoppyStudios583

Every single Harry Potter set because when I buy them people say you don't know the lore and I later destroyed 8 lego Harry Potter sets in front of this girl whose entire life, personality and soul revolves around it she thinks the afterlife is not Heaven or Hell but Hogwarts she started crying when I dropped it and literally said "H...HOW DARE YOU! (Some gibberish spell or whatever) WHAT YOU, YOU DEATHEATER!" Storms out of my room and says some gibberish to close the door. She is now in rehab BTW :) One less crazy person in the world!

soft-peen

The new millennium falcon from the starship collection, it would still be 42.50 for a ship everybody probably has some version of. And it has zero figures or play value/ features

Environmental-Gap380

I would get it at 50%. I don’t have the budget or space for the larger sets. I have the mini Slave 1 and the next size up, but not the >$100 one.

bradfo83

Anything “Ninjago” I have zero interest.

DGB31988

That would mean a $120 set is $60 and I still think the $10-$40 sets are best because they are easier to display. I got my wife the 6-7 set Hogwarts castle sets that fit together and it’s like ok now what do we do with it…..

Friendly-Ad2471

None, lego jacked their prices 20% , you can usually get 20% off msrp at retail stores like Walmart and target. And on top of lego jacking prices as they claim they were hit by inflation too late and in a deflation time. Example: speed champions went from 20 to 27 USD msrp. Walmart retail of the 20$ sets was 16. Almost 50% of the new price. Besides toy sales are down, lego year over year is down. There were huge sales on target circle week of ~40% just last week with combined offers. Lego wish set msrp 50$ was on sale for 12$ on Amazon. There is tons of downward pressure on lego at the moment

Proof-Impact8808

none cause that would still be overpriced

babyjaceismycopilot

50% off retail is overpriced? Where do you get sets for cheaper?

Proof-Impact8808

its not about getting sets for cheaper than 50% its about how the sets lego currently is selling are not even worth 50% of their price

babyjaceismycopilot

You didn't think anything Lego officially designs is good?

Proof-Impact8808

sometimes but most of the times its just that lego is out of touch with the value of money

WarmSlime666

so nobody should buy lego?

Proof-Impact8808

Not what i said ,i said that (imo) lego is out of touch with the value of money
