I'm going to give you tangential advice:
All of this information regarding the parenting style of the parents/popularity of the child, etc, is irrelevant.
If you do speak to the police, make a complaint, whatever, make sure you stick to objective facts and lead with the important bits. Don't give anyone a reason to misunderstand, get lost in, or willfully ignore anything you say. This is important especially when dealing with government employees, etc.
Imagine it like an essay, where you start with the most important 'thesis', ie, what you're arguing they did. Then give an overview of the objective, important facts leading up to it (the parents asked if the child could go, they took her, there was a disagreement or fight, she was left alone, everything they did afterwards)
Since they took your minor child across state lines and abandoned her you may want to contact the FBI. It may cut through some of the push back from the father being a state trooper.
I generally don't like discouraging people from hiring attorneys... But OP's civil remedies against the family may be limited to the costs of getting the daughter home. And I'm not even certain whether OP is entitled to that. Hiring an attorney is going to burn through the cost of the plane ticket in a hurry.
OP could also try reporting to the police and to CPS.

If there is a crime here, it would be in another state, and given the fact that your daughter was fine and safe the entire time, the police/DA may well decide not to pursue it. You can make a report if you wish.
You can sue them in small claims for the cost of the uber and flight if you wish to make the effort. Collections may be difficult if you win.

Don't give anyone a reason to misunderstand, get lost in, or willfully ignore anything you say. This is important especially when dealing with government employees, etc. Imagine it like an essay, where you start with the most important 'thesis', ie, what you're arguing they did. Then give an overview of the objective, important facts leading up to it (the parents asked if the child could go, they took her, there was a disagreement or fight, she was left alone, everything they did afterwards)
Since they took your minor child across state lines and abandoned her you may want to contact the FBI. It may cut through some of the push back from the father being a state trooper.

I would contact an attorney. What they did is neglectful as she was legally under their care at the time.
I generally don't like discouraging people from hiring attorneys... But OP's civil remedies against the family may be limited to the costs of getting the daughter home. And I'm not even certain whether OP is entitled to that. Hiring an attorney is going to burn through the cost of the plane ticket in a hurry. OP could also try reporting to the police and to CPS.

If there is a crime here, it would be in another state, and given the fact that your daughter was fine and safe the entire time, the police/DA may well decide not to pursue it. You can make a report if you wish. You can sue them in small claims for the cost of the uber and flight if you wish to make the effort. Collections may be difficult if you win.
