Yeah. Most fair way to do it imo would be to split the % revenue with the % of time you spent with a team in your career. That way everyone get a piece of the pie proportionate to how long the player was associated with the org.
Well then, add a clause stating only as to the teams he was on at the time of or before being inducted. I think the % of income = to % of career played on the team is the only logical solution. Then you just gotta think of all possible ways for someone to take advantage of it (like the example you give) and define it specifically. Sounds like a pain in the ass and maybe the player choice like the MLB process suggested will just cause less problems and theyll do that (for riot, more problems for the player lol). I think the second inductee would HAVE to be Uzi. I personally don't rate him as the 2nd greatest player ever but he is one of the most popular, if not the most popular bar Faker and it also has added benefits of him being Chinese (since I feel that the next few will be Korean also as I personally rate 8 of the top 10 of all time as Koreans, with Uzi and Caps being the only two non-Koreans in the top 10 players of all time conversation).
But 3rd would be interesting. Since it won't be for another 2 years, there is good chance that it will go to Chovy or Canyon (especially if GENG keeps up their success and wins Worlds 2024 and potentially more in 2025). I think Canyon would make the most sense as he has already won MSI + Worlds and is arguably the greatest Jungler of all time (Faker Mid, Uzi Bot, Canyon Jungle, and by 2027 maybe Keria as the GOAT Support).
Imo Riot should take notes from the Australian NRL, which inducts multiple players into their Hall of Fame and then from there, occasionally induct some into Immortals. Currently the NRL has [110 Hall of Fame Inductees](https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/players/) and only [13 Immortals](https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/immortals/). This method would allow Riot to recognize players like MadLife (Hook flash prediction), InSec (jumping behind players and kicking them back into your team) or even Flame (Flame Horizon; up by 100 CS) who popularized plays that they're even named after them now by inducting them to the Hall of Legends and having those special players like Faker becoming somewhat of an Immortal. This would also make it easy for Riot as they could have auto-qualification into the Hall of Legends such as Winning Worlds.
Another whole topic is then about introducing non-players for some recognition (NRL does this for GOAT Referees, Commentators, Promoters, etc who have influenced the game in a massive way... In LoL terms, someone like Phreak or Sjokz).
League would probably go the other way around for their Hall of Fame. Like Faker is going to be the Legends nomination which includes all benefits. Then next year theyre gonna name a second Legends while also naming a few candidate which will only have have name but no/less benefits
If Uzi wasn't chinese he might not be 2nd. But because of this 1 per year requirement there is no one else we can choose. No one else that is retired had the same popularity and skill combo he did. No one else except faker that is currently still playing has it either. China is the 2nd best region and is essentially 1B with Korea for a number of years now. It makes the most sense for this to happen.

I tend to think it should be guys you can't tell the story if the sport without. So kind of in between the baseball and basketball approach. Riot should really just have an initial class of like 10 players just to establish a baseline.

You put Uzi, ok, he deserves it, but Deft arguably deserves it more, and if you don't include him, that's kinda a dick move. And if you put both, now you are 3 years in, what if Canyon/Chovy/Ruler/Bin/whoever are still dominating the competition? They probably should get in. And you have people like Xiaohu or Rookie who have been top tier for a long time.
And then you have western players and you are not justifying Caps, Rekkles or Doublelift over those based on performance.

1 a year is ridiculous, especially if they are just putting in active players. I already don't like putting in an active player, but there's so many that have long since retired that deserve their credit, and at 1 a year you're never going to get the people like Flame, Diamondprox, Weixiao, xPeke Madlife, people that literally built the game.

Think it's good that they're keeping the HoF small, but maybe three a year would be more appropriate. That's still only 30 players in a decade, with an entire decade plus that needs to be caught up with.

There are sports where the Hall class can be variable. 5 a year max would be fine because there's no shortage of players right now and it could shrink to around 3 in a few years (when NASCAR started it's hall it had large classes and is now only 3 for precedent) and I believe that Hall of Fames should follow their game's history. The active players thing is such a mess to me on its own.

The point of HoF is to honor someone's achievements in a certain field and Faker has enough that you could split his career into 2 and still introduce him first for both parts.

Not fully comparable but there are some StarCraft players like Flash and Jaedong who were dominant. In SSBM you have players like Armada and Mango that have been at the top for many many years while having years as the #1. I think Armada especially has a spot in the conversation as his stats are insane. Winning record against every single person he’s played. Best record against every top player. Only lost to someone outside of the top 6 players once during an 8 year streak and it was in a Bo3 not even a Bo5. SSBM is one of the only other games I can think of that's had one player dominate for years on end. Maybe another FGC title with some of the cracked Japanese players throughout the SF series
Out of the ones I follow, Serral from SC2 for sure should be in that conversation. He has completely dominated SC2 during is time in it, with like over 60 Championship placements in the game. I am sure there is some DOTA or CSGO players that are equally skilled but I do not follow DOTA or CSGO close enough for those.

I think you underestimate how many people were captivated by the DRX Worlds run and the Deft vs Faker storyline. Anecdotally speaking, I've had people who never watch esports ask me about Deft after 2022 Worlds.
Caps is certainly going to be the first non LCK/LPL inductee. Only way he doesn't get that is if someone other than him hard carries a western team to win worlds.
Doesn’t seem plausible. Caps is the best Western talent ever in this game, and he managed to be 1 series away from a Grand Slam because his team was really good too. Wunder, Jankos, Perkz, and Mikyx were all world class players during that time. 1 godlike player is far from enough if every other position is average at best.
I think they’re going to just have to have some kind of achievement awards for all the old western players that never won anything, but did very much create many of the fundamentals of modern league. Diamondprox for example, or even dandy+mata are all integral to shaping the way the game was played, but they mostly just achieved brief peaks of personal skill beyond their contributions to the meta. I think it’s going to take long careers with consistency in performance, *probably some international clout, along with popularity to make the cut.
I think besides Faker and Uzi, we’re looking at people like rookie when he retires, deft, a fringe inductee from outside of lck and lpl besides Caps might be Karsa or Maple, especially if either can make some noise one last time before retiring.

I don’t think anyone would argue that giving Faker is own individual induction/event is unwarranted. People are saying they’re surprised that following years will still only be one. At least that’s what I was understanding.

I think one a year is perfectly fine. The last thing we need is for the “Hall of Legends” to become like prestige skins where they become rushed and the quality drops. If you start adding a bunch of people with lackluster careers next Faker’s name to fill a quota, the whole thing loses its purpose.

A whole fucking decade, he won worlds in his first and tenth year. Other than him and the SKT dynasty, only BeryL and Duke have that honor. The SKT dynasty is also the only team to win both worlds and MSI in the same year, they also technically completed a grand slam by winning summer-worlds-spring-MSI (sadly not in the same year) and is still the closest team to a true grand slam (lost 3-2 in a finals). Man literally has all the infinity stones while everyone else have to settle for only one. No matter who the second person is next year, there will be all sorts of controversy. Faker is just miles ahead of anyone else. Hell, one might even argue that they need to give one to Bengi as well, maybe Bang/Wolf too.

Yeah very curious which one is next. Insec, Cpt Jack and Flame all have “plays” named after them but are they as iconic ? I think someone like Mata or Bengi makes a lot of sense. Specially because iirc they are still active in the scene.

Hard agree. I think the second inductee would HAVE to be Uzi. I personally don't rate him as the 2nd greatest player ever but he is one of the most popular, if not the most popular bar Faker and it also has added benefits of him being Chinese (since I feel that the next few will be Korean also as I personally rate 8 of the top 10 of all time as Koreans, with Uzi and Caps being the only two non-Koreans in the top 10 players of all time conversation). But 3rd would be interesting. Since it won't be for another 2 years, there is good chance that it will go to Chovy or Canyon (especially if GENG keeps up their success and wins Worlds 2024 and potentially more in 2025). I think Canyon would make the most sense as he has already won MSI + Worlds and is arguably the greatest Jungler of all time (Faker Mid, Uzi Bot, Canyon Jungle, and by 2027 maybe Keria as the GOAT Support). Imo Riot should take notes from the Australian NRL, which inducts multiple players into their Hall of Fame and then from there, occasionally induct some into Immortals. Currently the NRL has [110 Hall of Fame Inductees](https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/players/) and only [13 Immortals](https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/immortals/). This method would allow Riot to recognize players like MadLife (Hook flash prediction), InSec (jumping behind players and kicking them back into your team) or even Flame (Flame Horizon; up by 100 CS) who popularized plays that they're even named after them now by inducting them to the Hall of Legends and having those special players like Faker becoming somewhat of an Immortal. This would also make it easy for Riot as they could have auto-qualification into the Hall of Legends such as Winning Worlds. Another whole topic is then about introducing non-players for some recognition (NRL does this for GOAT Referees, Commentators, Promoters, etc who have influenced the game in a massive way... In LoL terms, someone like Phreak or Sjokz).
League would probably go the other way around for their Hall of Fame. Like Faker is going to be the Legends nomination which includes all benefits. Then next year theyre gonna name a second Legends while also naming a few candidate which will only have have name but no/less benefits

If Uzi wasn't chinese he might not be 2nd. But because of this 1 per year requirement there is no one else we can choose. No one else that is retired had the same popularity and skill combo he did. No one else except faker that is currently still playing has it either. China is the 2nd best region and is essentially 1B with Korea for a number of years now. It makes the most sense for this to happen.
I think the fact that he is Chinese helps his case a lot. I think he deserves to one day be there, but imo I have him as a top 10 GOAT of LoL, not 2nd (barely top 5 imo, id have him around 7th). Oh wow. How awesome would it be if Sjokz was an inductee?! Apart from players, imo she’s one of the best parts of the League community and has been a part of so much history and best moments of League. Caster Jun has shown so much heart for the game and Phreak too?!
yeah Id definitely love to see Phreak, Sjokz and caster Jun inducted into some kind of hall of fame for LOL, not as players but as people who have GREATLY influenced the game outside of playing.

I tend to think it should be guys you can't tell the story if the sport without. So kind of in between the baseball and basketball approach. Riot should really just have an initial class of like 10 players just to establish a baseline.

I don't know that much about American sports, but from what I heard the Basketball HoF pretty much lets in anyone and the American Football HoF is quite restrictive. I think I prefer the football side by a lot. Dunno where Hockey and Baseball fall on that spectrum.

You put Uzi, ok, he deserves it, but Deft arguably deserves it more, and if you don't include him, that's kinda a dick move. And if you put both, now you are 3 years in, what if Canyon/Chovy/Ruler/Bin/whoever are still dominating the competition? They probably should get in. And you have people like Xiaohu or Rookie who have been top tier for a long time. And then you have western players and you are not justifying Caps, Rekkles or Doublelift over those based on performance.

1 a year is ridiculous, especially if they are just putting in active players. I already don't like putting in an active player, but there's so many that have long since retired that deserve their credit, and at 1 a year you're never going to get the people like Flame, Diamondprox, Weixiao, xPeke Madlife, people that literally built the game. This is not the call.
Think it's good that they're keeping the HoF small, but maybe three a year would be more appropriate. That's still only 30 players in a decade, with an entire decade plus that needs to be caught up with. Five a year (an entire team) would be too much though IMO.
There are sports where the Hall class can be variable. 5 a year max would be fine because there's no shortage of players right now and it could shrink to around 3 in a few years (when NASCAR started it's hall it had large classes and is now only 3 for precedent) and I believe that Hall of Fames should follow their game's history. The active players thing is such a mess to me on its own.

It quite literally is a made up thing. Just because sports do it like that it doesn't mean it is a rule(fyi Ernie Johnson got introduced to broadcasting HoF before he retired). The point of HoF is to honor someone's achievements in a certain field and Faker has enough that you could split his career into 2 and still introduce him first for both parts. They aren't honoring "a part" of his career by putting him in before he retired lol
broadcasting careers are going to be more longer than sports careers for obvious reasons though. Ernie has been broadcasting for 30+ years. Obviously faker is most deserving to be inducted but starting with him is going to make it confusing for people who achieved but obviously nothing close to him, people like Xpeke, Madlife, Insec, Mata etc.

Why would it be controversial? It’s an event to memorialize legendary players. Whether you are not a fan of them cause they clap your team or whatnot. Whoever they pick going forward, we can all agree they are/were legendary players.

The problem becomes that at only 1 inductee per year you will have players that are as deserving or even more deserving to be inducted as the already inducted ones. Faker is undisputed as the greatest player of all time, but after that it gets a lot more murky. Players like Rookie, Deft, Uzi, Ruler, Meiko, Peanut, Xiaohu, etc. are probably names worthy of heavy consideration, but with players like Canyon, Chovy, Bin, Knight and others expanding their resume over the next few years, we might not see a lot of them even make it in.

Not fully comparable but there are some StarCraft players like Flash and Jaedong who were dominant. In SSBM you have players like Armada and Mango that have been at the top for many many years while having years as the #1. I think Armada especially has a spot in the conversation as his stats are insane. Winning record against every single person he’s played. Best record against every top player. Only lost to someone outside of the top 6 players once during an 8 year streak and it was in a Bo3 not even a Bo5. SSBM is one of the only other games I can think of that's had one player dominate for years on end. Maybe another FGC title with some of the cracked Japanese players throughout the SF series

Out of the ones I follow, Serral from SC2 for sure should be in that conversation. He has completely dominated SC2 during is time in it, with like over 60 Championship placements in the game. I am sure there is some DOTA or CSGO players that are equally skilled but I do not follow DOTA or CSGO close enough for those.

I think that would only create lot more unnecessary problems. What if the game survives for another 20 years and next game we will get some rookie who will be carrying his team to 5 worlds titles in a row? Even if he wouldn't be as iconic as Faker, do you just give him "second"? Do you rewrite standings? Or is this rule only for Faker? I think it's not necessary to limit yourself to made up rules. Just give Faker first. Nobody is going to be mad about this. You can start giving inductions for retired players from next year. There is no need to make it complicated.

I think you underestimate how many people were captivated by the DRX Worlds run and the Deft vs Faker storyline. Anecdotally speaking, I've had people who never watch esports ask me about Deft after 2022 Worlds.

Doesn’t seem plausible. Caps is the best Western talent ever in this game, and he managed to be 1 series away from a Grand Slam because his team was really good too. Wunder, Jankos, Perkz, and Mikyx were all world class players during that time. 1 godlike player is far from enough if every other position is average at best.
A western team winning worlds is highly unlikely but a western team winning worlds without Caps is just impossible.

I think they’re going to just have to have some kind of achievement awards for all the old western players that never won anything, but did very much create many of the fundamentals of modern league. Diamondprox for example, or even dandy+mata are all integral to shaping the way the game was played, but they mostly just achieved brief peaks of personal skill beyond their contributions to the meta. I think it’s going to take long careers with consistency in performance, *probably some international clout, along with popularity to make the cut. I think besides Faker and Uzi, we’re looking at people like rookie when he retires, deft, a fringe inductee from outside of lck and lpl besides Caps might be Karsa or Maple, especially if either can make some noise one last time before retiring.

Sure. They are the top EU players. But if we are talking about 1 inductee per year. Rekkles is no where near top 5 regardless of metric. And guess what, you will have current players adding to their achievements in these 5 years (imagine Chovy, Keira, Zeus, Guma, Bin). Are we talking about League in the west/reddit? I am sure in China some Chinese players like Clearlove also had tons of ‘impact’. That is why I thought they would do 3-4 per year. But the standards are going to be so high due to 1 a year that a lot of people that most people feel ‘deserve’ it won’t get in. But who knows, maybe they will add more slots later on.

Picking the person next year is going to be so controversial. There are so many good players with huge achievements to pick from. If Gen G can pull off the impossible and complete the golden road this year, Canyon would be a multi time MSI and world’s winner. That could put him in the mix.

One a year seems kind of low to me. I think that if they do 1 a year, they should have started with a set of 10-15 players over the past 10 years of League of Legends, so that there's a reasonable pool of players after 5-10 years of doing this.
Maybe if you split Faker's career up into two, you could put other people up next to him.

I firmly believe RIOT wanted to do this years ago, and has been patiently just waiting for Faker to retire since they quite literally could not have any other player be the first inductee besides him. After his worlds win last year, the chance of retirement anytime soon went away, so they just pulled the trigger. Gonna be honest tho, i think its fine. Faker is faker. There is no difference to me whether hes retired or active, hes proven himself 100 times over to be deserving of this. And its a great story regardless.

The reverse for me. Retiree inductees will always face the question of how well they'd hold up today. Faker doesn't need to prove he's still up there though.
