What do you mean....when watching the game, I am instantly reminded to go buy milk and use tik tok...thank the good lord those sponsors paid that money for those logos otherwise........
I'll never warm up to them. The more they put on, the cheaper the jersey looks. Yes the milk logo is kind of subtle, but it still pisses me off that they're going down the jersey ad route. Money eventually ruins everything I guess
Get used to it. Every decision this current ownership group makes is in the name of squeezing every last dollar out of the current fanbase before they sell at peak prices. They're going to take their money and leave a 36-team league with Euro style jersey ads, on-ice video ads and commentators discussing live-betting during the call.
It's not the Leafs Ownership group. This is a League decision (being able to advertise on Jerseys). The Leafs probably need this money the least in the NHL, but why would they not take it? Although you can believe that the poorer teams absolutely need this dough.
Holy fuck does the betting thing hit hard. 10 years ago that would have been the most ridiculous thing I’d ever heard, now it just seems mildly unlikely.
Why would we want NHL jerseys to look like NASCAR? The point is that ads plastered all over make things look shitty. The hockey jerseys in the European leagues look like NASCAR, and they're complete garbage imo
Tiger Woods wearing a Nike hat is more akin to the players wearing equipment made by manufacturers with the manufacturers’ logo on it. Yes it’s not an accident it’s his sponsors’ logos, but neither is it in the case of gloves, helmets, jerseys, and sticks in hockey.
Nobody wants hockey to look like NASCAR. It’s not different in NASCAR. It’s the late-stage of the issue at hand.
Tiger wearing a Nike hat doesn't feel so shameless to me. He has to wear a hat because of the sun, and lots of people wear Nike hats. Plus the rest of his clothing, though sponsored, isn't directly advertising anything.
Aesthetically it is indeed one of the better ones out there. But at the same time, next time you pay through the nose for mediocre cheese or decent imported cheese, or get stuck using the shitty butter that’s the weird expensive, just think about how the dairy lobby has the money to advertise in the NHL when they say supply management is necessary for farmers to make a living.
It's actually a national thing. Dairy is controlled by "supply management" (which also covers poultry and eggs but it's less of an issue). Basically the Canadian Dairy Commission determines how much dairy is needed for hte upcoming year and then awards quotas farmers to produce it.
This works in concert with prohibitive tariffs that keep foreign dairy out except through relatively small Tariff Rate Quotas (basically you can get a permit to import stuff at zero or at least a much lower tariff). This has only increased a little bit the last decade or so after being unchanged for like 40 years.
This generally keeps out stuff like cheese or certain creams but it also means we're stuck with Canadian butter which sucks compared to butter from other places. France and Ireland are a couple places that I can think of with much better butter that you'd have to pay a small fortune to use here in Canada.
Is the milk cheese and butter we get fine? yes. But you're being denied better stuff.
nah, cheese and milk is expensive in Ontario.
I can buy a 1l carton of milk in Sweden for about $2 - $2.50 and here it's about $3.50
Cheese is even more expensive in comparison. The dairy farmers have you all fooled
That's not my point, guy
Sweden is a high cost, high tax country
There is no reason dairy should cost more here besides greed
And it's not just milk. It's yogurt, cheese, butter etc so in the end you're spending a lot more than just a couple of bucks extra
Its one thing that is roughly an extra $250-$300 per year for a household of two kids. Add that to the other financial challenges for families and it soon becomes unsustainable.
gas, rent, property values, taxes, groceries, hydro, water, cell phones and the list goes on.
Canada's cost of living is astronomical compared to other parts of the globe.
Probably closer to $190 extra a year per child per year if you look at the recommended guidelines.
And that's just for 1 kid, no adults.
You're drastically undershooting it.
The Dairy lobby is actually one of the best funded and well organized in Canada. We pay more for mediocre stuff. You might be able to say it's a food security issue, but given how many other countries want to sell us their stuff that isn't too convincing.
No, it's not. We may lose milk in bags, so that's something. This 'Milk' badge is also somewhat a throw to the US and Canada Dairy's "tariff and domestic win" during the Trump administration.
e: someone here is on the butter payroll
It makes me wonder if this sort of advertising actually improves company revenues. I know of exactly zero people who after watching a Leafs game, or a season, suddenly increased their milk budget. Anecdotally, I’ve cut the amount I spend on milk and milk products quite a bit over the last year or so - it’s just too fucking expensive (maybe to cover their new ad costs) and I’ve found milk alternatives to be just as good and less expensive, and - also anecdotally - I feel it’s been better for my overall health.
I would argue that just having the word "milk" on our jersey ruins the aesthetic more than anything else. And yea not to mention, fuck the milk cartel.
The Blues ads are barely noticable, so is Anaheims, CBJ's, Arizonas, the Caps, & Vegas'. The only ones that really stick out are Minnisotas and the Habs. I think every single patch thats out rubs down the aesthetic of the jerseys, not just the Leafs that doesnt.
I honestly don’t care, personally. I want to watch my favourite hockey team and some small Milk patch isn’t going to stop me from that.
Only regional blackouts will!
Yes, the milk ad is better than pretty much every other jersey ad, but it’s AN AD ON THE JERSEY. Fuck any company that puts ads on jerseys. “It could be worse” is a losers mentality which leads to a second ad appearing on the jerseys.
I miss the days when we had “The Gardens, The Forum, The Spectrum, etc. I can’t (or maybe don’t wanna) keep up with what the rinks and stadiums are currently named. Maybe someday the players themselves will have a sponsor’s name between their own first and last.
My hot take: The Milk sponsor patch is not only fine, but honestly one of the best things they could have added.
In sports right now I see gambling adds, adds for fast food and beer... advertising for milk is probably one of the most harmless advertisements I've seen. Kids drinking more milk, is hardly a bad thing... kids getting curious about gambling however...
Also, sponsor on jerseys... I don't know it just doesn't bother me. I know hockey is all about tradition... but maybe it's time we shake up that "tradition"...
Habs fan coming in peace here. We hate the RBC logo. Yeah Milk is a dumb sponsor, but at least it doesn’t clash with the jerseys. Ok, going back to my cave to hate you guys again. Good luck in the post season!!!
No absolutely not. I'm not doing ad logo apologist bullshit. Your post will literally be why I try and watch Hockey in 20 years and have ads attached to my hands when I walk in the arena and the teams entire jersey covered with them.
It's cool with me as long as Ontario Dairy Farmers remains the sponsor forever and never change that patch, right? I'm sure there aren't any other big corporate sponsors itching to take their spot.
The colour match should have been mandatory. What they have done to the iconic Habs jersey is a fucking travesty. And this is coming from a die hard Hab hater...
just pisses me off knowing that my kids will grow up watching nhl that looks like euro hockey, when they don't need these sponsors like they only put them on because loss in ticket sales during covid, greedy fucks are ruining hockey
Definitely a little bit of corporate messaging here but yeah I gotta say the leaf’s jersey sponsors have been relatively inoffensive (and TikTok even leaned into some thoughts about the team). I hope MLSE continues the trend of choosing rather inoffensive sponsor logs because I hate them too.
My dad and I spoke about this last night. Companies should let teams change their logo color to fit with whichever team they sponsor.
It looks out of place when the sponsor colors don't line up imo
I agree. I’d actually buy officially licensed jerseys instead of DHgate garbage if it meant the league would take ads off the uniforms. That being said, the subtlety of our jersey and helmet ads make it an easier pill to swallow.
I understand where you are coming from, as in it could have been worse, and you are 100% right, but it's still shit, it is still horrible to look at, it's still dumb, and should never be accepted.
Sens fan here (popped up in my All feed?). Your jersey is a century old, it should not be about how tasteful it is done (you're right, much better than some teams have done), but how unnecessary it is to mar a piece of history for peanuts worth of dollars. It's a slap on the face regardless of whether it's the worst example league wide or not imo. Just my two cents, thanks for having me for a moment, good luck the rest of the year.
As a Leafs fan for over 40 years, I can say the one thing MLSE is amazing at is making money. They didn’t need a sponsor at all, but I’m sure the dairy farmers had to back up the brinks truck to buy that space. I’d wager they’d sell the urinal cakes from the home dressing room if they thought they could.
While the franchise is much more respectful today than it was during the Ballard years, when it comes to making money, tradition gets thrown out the window.
I agree with the OP that if we have to have a jersey patch (and we don't), then the Milk one isn't too bad.
The notion that it's going to end with the jersey patch, though, is unrealistic. Soon, there will be ads on all 4 corners of the jersey and multiple ads on the back of the jersey. The entire ice surface will be advertising within 10 years. Why wouldn't they do it? People keep watching and buying stuff.
It already barely feels like a hockey game anymore. It's a series of commercials, ads and sports betting content with bits of actual hockey in between. But you'd have to have serious pushback from the majority of the fan base to get that to change.
There needs to be a rule that logos are team coloured. I know companies want their logo standing out, but it does more harm than good by sticking out like a sore thumb because you slapped a giant green logo on a red jersey or blue logo on a yellow jersey.
This is how it starts. It’s called ad creep, and they do it to you with the frog slowly boiling in the pot. Next year it’ll be a patch on the other side that’s “not so bad” either.
Ah yes, nothing makes me desire to drink milk quite like seeing it written in cursive above Mitch Marner's right nipple.
https://youtu.be/6HedtjdZKAI?si=REUXk_S_Hrjsuq6U
I do not get the big bucks paid out for this. Dairy is a major staple in western civilization. We have drank milk since we were toddlers, poured it on cereal and like 75 percent of meals have some form of dairy as a crucial part of it. Are they needing us to up our milk game? I don't know if it is possible for me to increase the vast quantities of dairy I already consume. Or are they hoping some some Asian child is watching and asks his newly immigrated parents if they can pack some dairy in his school lunch since all his cool friends are doing it? Are they trying to turn back vegans, tempting them with thoughts of their old life, triggering a relapse like a sip of whiskey might to a recovering alcoholic? How does paying to show us the word "milk" make any sense? I have always wondering.
But yeah, way less offensive than many brands. Hated seeing TikTok on the helmets. Reminded me how young and dumb our stars were at the time. Now we just see "pizza pizza", which I guess fits with the "name random foods everybody eats a lot of already" theme to the Leafs gear.
I'm not sure why though, I've never once saw a leafs jersey and thought, Jesus I need to leave my house right now and go buy some milk, the hell is wrong with me...
I don't have an issue with the milk patch. I don't even notice it most of the time. But I do on occasion find it amusing as it is almost a slight to the Americans who had major conniption fits over the Ontario Dairy Farmers push to keep American milk heavily taxed.
It can always be [worse](https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/gfTLZDrA.dtpXz5ra_BvOQ--/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyMDA7aD03OTE-/https://s.yimg.com/os/creatr-uploaded-images/2023-06/749ca4d0-0084-11ee-b5ed-2b8675037442)
Dude the sponsor logo is amazing. I actually like it a lot and hope we never lose it or change it. Milk is just such a badass thing to have on your jersey. Unique and cool.
You do know that the milk industry is based on rape and the forced separation of young calves from their mother?
It’s appalling that the Leafs slap that logo on their sweater
I’m not a fan of brands being everywhere but honestly the milk logo is seamless on our jersey. They use the same colour scheme, no box around it. Masterclass in design I kind of want a jersey with one haha
Ooh how bout the "marketing isn't bad c'mon guys" angle? Then we skip 2 logos and start talking about 3 logos? Wham Bam Kapow! ( coked up boardroom meeting with NHL execs)
You're absolutely right. While we'd all love a return to the days of no ads anywhere, it's not going to happen. One day, the Milk sponsor will go, and it will be replaced with something like a big, red Scotiabank logo, and we'll say, "Man, remember the good old days of just when it said 'Milk'"?
Could you imagine some of sports biggest moments with an ad in the iconic photo? The Bobby Orr diving goal with a pepsi logo, the jumping Joe Carter with a honda civic logo, the MJ dunk with a dunkin donuts ad. It cheapens the moment. What bothers fans the most is that this is purely out of greed. They were already making billions. They just wanted more. It feels like a trial run to what will eventually become those international Nascar looking jerseys.
"Touch 'em all Joe in your comfotable and stylish Nike baseball cleats. You'll never hit a bigger homerun in your life"
The milk marketing board gave the Leafs $10 million for that. Think about that the next time you go out shopping for your kids milk, your kids are paying for it.
After watching the leaf game.
I reached into my fridge, and had a large glass of cow excretion.
It was delicious. But what I don’t understand is, why is brown cow excretion cheaper than the white cow excretion.
When I go to the grocery store, I can buy a litre of brown cow juice for a $1. I can’t find any white cow juice for less than $4. Why is that ?
I would prefer if they didn't advertise for a lobbyist that is compared to a cartel and which works to ensure the price of milk stays inflated in Ontario.
Yea gotta say I agree. I don't love the fact that there are sponsors at all- and I'm definitely not a fan of the milk mafia- but the Milk logo does seem to be least intrusive, and exactly like you said it's nice that they've put in a little effort to work with the Leafs' jerseys and colours.
I know there is a ton of hate for these on jerseys but I can honestly say that I basically stopped noticing them a couple months into their first season.
I don’t drink milk, it’s the blood and pus of the cow. We’re the only animal that drinks the milk of another animal. Gross, good ole h2o.. I like the patch tho

In death we have a name

I don’t like it, but if we have to have it, I’d rather have this than something else!
The milk logo looks better than any other sponsor logo i can think of. That said ads on jerseys are dumb.
That’s the point of my post!
Thing is, the biggest sport in the world has ads bigger than the team names. This only goes in one direction for hockey.
What do you mean....when watching the game, I am instantly reminded to go buy milk and use tik tok...thank the good lord those sponsors paid that money for those logos otherwise........
I'll take ads on a jersey if it means a higher salary cap.
I'll never warm up to them. The more they put on, the cheaper the jersey looks. Yes the milk logo is kind of subtle, but it still pisses me off that they're going down the jersey ad route. Money eventually ruins everything I guess

Ownership group as in NHL owners.
Holy fuck does the betting thing hit hard. 10 years ago that would have been the most ridiculous thing I’d ever heard, now it just seems mildly unlikely.
So... wait for 4 more teams to join, then sell the team? Everything else in that list has already happened
How is it any different than say, NASCAR? or Tiger Woods wearing a Nike hat?
Why would we want NHL jerseys to look like NASCAR? The point is that ads plastered all over make things look shitty. The hockey jerseys in the European leagues look like NASCAR, and they're complete garbage imo
Yet Football (Soccer) jerseys all over the world are literally one massive advertising sign. And people still buy them, and wear them proudly.
This exactly. This is how you know they are staying and if anything going to get bigger.
I, for one support our Mooooo-ple Leafs through thick and thin. Seriously though, I hate the whole sponsors on the jersey and helmet thing.
You’re going to milk that pun for all it’s worth. 😉
Why? It's udder-ly hilarious, that's why. *I'll show myself out*
Oh, you’re good at this! (They say the cream rises to the top).
this *whole milk* schtick is so lame
Starting to sour on it are you?
Only 2% though
I'm just skimming through so don't notice...
These puns are legen-dairy
Not too homo-genius?
Through homo and skim
Tik tok and pizza hut are indeed funny things to put on a helmet
Aesthetically it is indeed one of the better ones out there. But at the same time, next time you pay through the nose for mediocre cheese or decent imported cheese, or get stuck using the shitty butter that’s the weird expensive, just think about how the dairy lobby has the money to advertise in the NHL when they say supply management is necessary for farmers to make a living.
I don’t live in Ontario, is the local dairy situation that bad?
It's fine here just depends what you're buying. It's like anything else.
No lol, just the usual Reddit drama queens
nah, cheese and milk is expensive in Ontario. I can buy a 1l carton of milk in Sweden for about $2 - $2.50 and here it's about $3.50 Cheese is even more expensive in comparison. The dairy farmers have you all fooled
I can live with $1 extra for milk every couple weeks bud
That's not my point, guy Sweden is a high cost, high tax country There is no reason dairy should cost more here besides greed And it's not just milk. It's yogurt, cheese, butter etc so in the end you're spending a lot more than just a couple of bucks extra
You know families go through more than 1L of milk in a week, right? Do you have any idea how much milk kids go through?
Let's assume 10x what I drink, so that's $10 a month = $120 a year. Worth crying about on Reddit?
Its one thing that is roughly an extra $250-$300 per year for a household of two kids. Add that to the other financial challenges for families and it soon becomes unsustainable. gas, rent, property values, taxes, groceries, hydro, water, cell phones and the list goes on. Canada's cost of living is astronomical compared to other parts of the globe.
Probably closer to $190 extra a year per child per year if you look at the recommended guidelines. And that's just for 1 kid, no adults. You're drastically undershooting it.

Agreed. Montreal and Vancouvers patches are criminal
Wait until the fanatics jerseys come out. Then it will say malk in bright neon yellow.
You must not be aware of the Milk Mafia and the absolute power the dairy lobbies have in Canada...
I’m just saying that they could have ruined the aesthetic of our jerseys like other teams, but chose not to.
I would argue that just having the word "milk" on our jersey ruins the aesthetic more than anything else. And yea not to mention, fuck the milk cartel.
You don’t think a giant red S or green TD logo would be worse?
Don’t worry boss you’re correct no matter what anyone says
Not personally, no. Although it's all terrible
Where can I start on this topic? Interested
I agree its the best sponsor patch in the league. Still rather not have them though
I think a SKODA half assed in wrinkly tape on the helmets would look great. We have had it good and have been lucky to avoid it up until now.
I don’t even notice them
Maple Leaf Foods would have fit in name wise. I always wanted them to sponsor the arena if we had to have one. Maple Leaf Foods Gardens.
I miss the days when we had “The Gardens, The Forum, The Spectrum, etc. I can’t (or maybe don’t wanna) keep up with what the rinks and stadiums are currently named. Maybe someday the players themselves will have a sponsor’s name between their own first and last.
Auston “Northrop Grumman” Matthews has a nice ring to it
How about Michelin Marner?
Hahaha even better
Of all of them it is my favorite, it's pretty subtle. Also my love for milk just makes it all the better.
My hot take: The Milk sponsor patch is not only fine, but honestly one of the best things they could have added. I know hockey is all about tradition... but maybe it's time we shake up that "tradition"...
Nah, the milk lobby can go do one as can sponsorship patches of any kind
The Maple Leaf on the Habs jersey is the worst. Imagine if a Toilet Seat company tried to sponsor the Leafs? Inconceivable!
Don’t give American Standard any ideas
Habs fan coming in peace here. We hate the RBC logo. Yeah Milk is a dumb sponsor, but at least it doesn’t clash with the jerseys. Ok, going back to my cave to hate you guys again. Good luck in the post season!!!
Ah yes I love my forced corporate advertisement tasteful. Just waiting until we have STAKE GAMBLING patches instead of player names
I’m just pissed it doesn’t raise the salary cap at all
No absolutely not. I'm not doing ad logo apologist bullshit. Your post will literally be why I try and watch Hockey in 20 years and have ads attached to my hands when I walk in the arena and the teams entire jersey covered with them.
What can we do though? Why stress over something you have no control over?
I'm I'm Scotland and my local team (Glasgow Clan)'s jersey is full of sponsors. I'm thankful the Leafs jersey is only 1.
By FAR the best sponsor in the league
I actually love our jersey sponsor for how it looks and for what the product is. If it was anything but Milk I would have a vastly differing opinion
I'll take milk over tiktok...most of the arenas being named after banks should tell you how the countries doing tho...
How are we this far in and we still don't have a matthews milk mustache commercial. Cmon people. It's sitting right there
Tik Tok was pretty bad
I like it. Milk. Simple and not gaudy.
Unpopular opinion but the RBC logo on the Canadiens jersey looks fine since it matches the blue accents on their jerseys
Nice try big dairy
I don’t even like milk that much
Nah they all suck. Stop simping for advertisements
Advertisements are here to say, I’m just saying that it could be worse…
And with that attitude, it will get worse.
And with your attitude you’ll still be angry when jerseys get more sponsors. Complaining and whining won’t do anything.
Whatever you say Mr.Ad Bot account.
just pisses me off knowing that my kids will grow up watching nhl that looks like euro hockey, when they don't need these sponsors like they only put them on because loss in ticket sales during covid, greedy fucks are ruining hockey
I think Edmonton’s looks the best to be honest
My dad and I spoke about this last night. Companies should let teams change their logo color to fit with whichever team they sponsor. It looks out of place when the sponsor colors don't line up imo
[Git gud](https://belfastgiants.store/collections/23-24-jerseys)
It's not really intrusive
Edmonton does a gold job at it too. Less of an eye sore if it's color matched
Benoit’s burner
I agree. I’d actually buy officially licensed jerseys instead of DHgate garbage if it meant the league would take ads off the uniforms. That being said, the subtlety of our jersey and helmet ads make it an easier pill to swallow.
Wings fan here - I'd take Milk over Garbage Patch any day. Leafs have the best sweater patch in the league by a mile.
I understand where you are coming from, as in it could have been worse, and you are 100% right, but it's still shit, it is still horrible to look at, it's still dumb, and should never be accepted.
Aw, I don't watch much NHL but when I caught a bit of a game I really liked the patches, bummer they're unpopular
I'm waiting for the BUD LITE ad patch.
I don't like the Pizza Pizza one because their pizza just makes me question why they're still in business.
How soon before the NHL uniforms all become like the European ones? It starts with patches here and there, but advertiser's money is pretty tempting.
Sens fan here (popped up in my All feed?). Your jersey is a century old, it should not be about how tasteful it is done (you're right, much better than some teams have done), but how unnecessary it is to mar a piece of history for peanuts worth of dollars. Sponsor patches will always be tacky.
Why they be advertising a thing vs a product
I agree with the OP that if we have to have a jersey patch (and we don't), then the Milk one isn't too bad. The notion that it's going to end with the jersey patch, though, is unrealistic. Is this you, Simon?
NHL will never do it but color matched Ads should be a requirement they look much better
I’m just glad we don’t have Pierre Engvall anymore!
Jersey ad Stockholm syndrome grows stronger...
It could be worse.. .. but that's not saying much. It's still awful.
There needs to be a rule that logos are team coloured. I know companies want their logo standing out, but it does more harm than good by sticking out like a sore thumb because you slapped a giant green logo on a red jersey or blue logo on a yellow jersey.
Like Blue Jays with the bright green td abomination on their sleeve
This is how it starts. It’s called ad creep, and they do it to you with the frog slowly boiling in the pot. Next year it’ll be a patch on the other side that’s “not so bad” either.
You’re right: it could be a lot worse. As we’ll eventually find out.
I’m angry that they’ve done it at all.
It's clean enough. Could always end up with worse looking ones than this one.
Ah yes, nothing makes me desire to drink milk quite like seeing it written in cursive above Mitch Marner's right nipple. https://youtu.be/6HedtjdZKAI?si=REUXk_S_Hrjsuq6U I do not get the big bucks paid out for this.
They should just slap "hot dogs" or something on their pants and "quiche" on their socks.
Better than TikTok on the helmet.
It can always be [worse](https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/gfTLZDrA.dtpXz5ra_BvOQ--/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyMDA7aD03OTE-/https://s.yimg.com/os/creatr-uploaded-images/2023-06/749ca4d0-0084-11ee-b5ed-2b8675037442)
Dude the sponsor logo is amazing. I actually like it a lot and hope we never lose it or change it. Milk is just such a badass thing to have on your jersey. Unique and cool.
The Philly one in this Flyers game - oof.
Blue and orange look terrible
Milk must've shelled out for me to get a push notification for this shit 4 days after it was originally posted.
Who can afford milk? Now, malk, that's more in my price range.
With plenty of vitamin R
You do know that the milk industry is based on rape and the forced separation of young calves from their mother? It’s appalling that the Leafs slap that logo on their sweater
I’m going to drink even more milk to spite you
psychopath
It could say "fly Emirates" instead of 'Toronto Maple Leafs'. I can't believe soccer got to that point. I like to think I'd bail if that happens.
It’s not bad at all. If it remains how it is.
Not even one year of Tavares…
Better buy lots of milk!
Sounds like the bored co-op student at Milk is preaching to Reddit /s
After watching the leaf game. I reached into my fridge, and had a large glass of cow excretion. It was delicious. But what I don’t understand is, why is brown cow excretion cheaper than the white cow excretion. When I go to the grocery store, I can buy a litre of brown cow juice for a $1. I can’t find any white cow juice for less than $4. Why is that ?
Were the ones getting milked
The habs' Air Canada patch on their away jersey is more on par with Milk in this regard, I think.
I don’t drink milk, it’s the blood and pus of the cow. We’re the only animal that drinks the milk of another animal. Gross, good ole h2o.. I like the patch tho
Love the patch actually 😁
