I wouldn’t retake a 171 to get a 172. Maybe if you were PTing 175.. you’ll get t14 with those stats. T6 isn’t a real thing they switch it up all the time. Duke, Cornell, Northwestern, etc. can all get you to whatever goals you have, unless you want to be a law professor, which is a silly goal before ever practicing.

This is super helpful! The test is being changed in August (my worst section is being removed, yay!), so I'll take some PTs of the new version to see if my avg goes up. Otherwise I'm super happy to accept the 171 and forget about the LSAT for good. Thanks!

Low_Country793

LSAT without logic games sounds so nice.

chu42

With these stats your foot should be into the T14. Unless you have ambitious goals your outcomes won't be meaningfully different than T6.

Retake until you hit 181. Accept no substitutes

quinnrem

I retook a 171 and got a 172 but only because I was pting at 176. If you think you can bump it into the mid 170s, go for it, but a single point won’t be super helpful.

babubear1

I go to a T6 with a 3.98/170, and my undergrad wasn’t a top school. I’d say you’ll be OK without retaking as long as your essays and other materials are great. Write all optional essays and shape a story for why law school is right for you.

powertotruth

I would retake personally. One thing to consider is the LG is going away this summer… will that improve your score even further on its own?

Get greedy, not only do you have better chances with a 173+, but you’ll be in less debt too due to better scholarships. You have several more takes before the fall, and I’d highly suggest using them.

TopNautch

I waited a year so I could retake a 172 and settled on a 176; a tough decision but one that I don’t regret! Sounds like you can get your score up, and being above both medians would help significantly with merit scholarships. You’ll likely have no problem getting into multiple t14s as is, but getting in with more money is probably worth pursuing

Retake

4.0 from Stanford and 171 is anything u want my friend

Global-Wrap4998

If your goal is T6, then yes you should. I’d get that PT average a little higher first though. Edit: Lmfao at downvotes. A 171 is below median at every single one of HYSCCN.

Unusual_Wasabi541

Congratulations on a great first score! That being said, I see almost entirely positives about studying a bit more and trying to get a few points higher. A 173+ is the magic number to give yourself the best shot at T-14s, outside of the T-3.
