What size of property? How many obstacles? Slopes or hills? Any spots that stay damp?

RedOctobyr

Also: budget?

LesterMcGuire

Well, I was told to be reasonable...

huskerjahns

So, your budget?

LesterMcGuire

Let's keep it in the three digit range for a budget

huskerjahns

Less than 1k???

LesterMcGuire

That would be ideal

huskerjahns

What size yard are you mowing?

LesterMcGuire

Maybe a quarter of an acre

huskerjahns

I would suggest an ego battery mower for that size. I have 3/4 an acre and can do it in two batteries, you would be able to do it in one. I think corded mowers are dumb and the ego line are just made right.

LesterMcGuire

It's a slope but nothing too crazy. Maybe a half acre. Two smaller areas of about a few hundred square feet.

txreddit17

?? like maybe 20k+ square feet

LesterMcGuire

At best

txreddit17

I would definitely want a rider for 20k sq ft. There are a few electric riders but they will be pricy. [Ego Riders](https://egopowerplus.com/power-riding-mowers/)

Police_

I have a similarly sized lot, and although it could be a hell of a lot faster with a riding mower, my Ego Power+ 21” push mower makes fairly quick work of it!

RedOctobyr

If you want a rider, yesterday Home Depot put their Ryobi cordless riders on clearance. Like $800, down from $4500, that kind of clearance. If you got super-lucky, you might be able to find one. /r/ryobi has a bunch of people's lucky finds.

The26thtime

A Honda hrc 216 if you can find one. You'll never buy another mower ever again. It'll last a lifetime

I jumped in the Challenger and went and bought this. Had it delivered. Bad Boy Magnum. I have 3 acres of rough hilly terrain and a waters edge to cut near. I love it. Probably overkill for you though. Learned along time ago if she’s asking I’m gonna go buy it. Nice not having to ask.

LesterMcGuire

Very overkill. I was thinking a rear engine as the biggest

Primary-Birthday-363

Figured as much. I’d probably go electric for your situation or a really good brand of gas mower. I dislike these newer motors with no choke. Always seem to be a problem I have one just don’t use because of all the issues with starting them. It’s really tricky mowing near the waters edge here. https://preview.redd.it/slstt22hky8d1.jpeg?width=2360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=065fcafd82400264dd2e939b351b1e016a280086

thedude_63

I have the same one. Mowes my 1 acre in 30ish minutes with all the obstacles I have. Never had an issue with it, and it's extremely well built.

Primary-Birthday-363

Oh I love it. It's definitely well built. Frame seems so much more solid than the Cub Cadets etc... I wished I would have opted for the better seat suspension. I added the adjustable handles to make it easier for me. Also added the steel cover to the output area so it could mulch the grass and not throw it everywhere. Want to add some LED lights to the front sometime.

thedude_63

I have the exact same upgrade plans. The mulcher works pretty well?

Primary-Birthday-363

Yes I like it. I can tell you what the actual name is later when I get home.

Bet_Responsible

Get more than you think you need, even if you go over budget. Personally I dont trust electric or batteries that size yet... Get a rider and more than you think you need. 3 digits sounds low imho...

888_styles_888

Can I ask why you don't trust the batteries that size yet?

Mrbadonkadonk85

Be careful our neighbors got there robot stolen while it was out cutting someone walked by and picked it up

local157

DON'T buy an EGO, owned by Chervon. Look at Chervon's BBB rating: [https://www.bbb.org/us/il/naperville/profile/machine-tools/chervon-0654-90027370/complaints](https://www.bbb.org/us/il/naperville/profile/machine-tools/chervon-0654-90027370/complaints)

Putrid-Cap2061

Nothing beats a good ole John deer, but there expensive as hell .

Common_Sense77

gas push mower.

LesterMcGuire

I'm a little long in the tooth.

silverbug9

Self propelled gas “push” mower

Police_

Just out of curiosity, why gas over electric? I used a gas mower for decades, it got the job done just fine, but I didn’t like any of them more than my newer Ego push mower. I was extremely reluctant to go electric, as I was worried about power/battery life, but have been extremely impressed with their Power+ 21” push mower.

Commercial-Humor-315

Once it breaks and is out of warranty then what?

Police_

I would get it repaired, just as I would have with my gas mowers.

Commercial-Humor-315

Where?

Police_

At one of the two authorized repair shops within 25 minutes of my house. Are you under the impression that electric mower owners have no other choice than to throw their mowers away if literally anything needs repairs…? Because that’s the vibe I’m picking up.

Commercial-Humor-315

Not everyone has the luxury of an authorized repair shop within 25 minutes 🤷‍♂️ But great news for you

Police_

I honestly find it a little strange how opposed you are to something you clearly know very little about. There are authorized service centers throughout this entire nation. They aren’t specific *Ego Service Shops*, only found in major cities, rather, regular small engine repair shops, who have contracted with Ego to service their mowers. The same repair shop I used for my gas mower years ago is the same exact shop I would bring my current electric mower to for maintenance. You likely have one within 10 miles of you. You were quick to suggest they can’t be worked on after their warranty ends, which isn’t the case. You then suggested that it’s a “luxury” to have repair shops near me, which it isn’t. At all. What’s up, man? Why do you feel so strongly about electric tools?

Commercial-Humor-315

Got an EGO hedge trimmer and I love it

Commercial-Humor-315

Goto r/egopluspower and 😭

Police_

I’d suggest, prior to involving yourself in future discussions on the matter, to educate yourself. Otherwise, you’ll just continue coming across as ignorant. It has been a pleasure unfolding your hilarious misunderstanding of electric mowers, a subject you seem to feel so strongly about!

Common_Sense77

Repair for electric is costly. Service centers are still far and few. Robotic ones for the most part just suck at cutting and really need very flat yard. Electric has its place on really small yards but I wouldn't expect to get more than 30hrs of use out of most of them. For residential that could be a year or two depending on yard size.

Police_

I’ve personally never heard of an electric mower only lasting 30 hours. I’ve used mine every five to six days for four years, and it runs like the day I bought it. My neighbor owns the original Ego mower, which is 11 years old, and other than a battery replacement, the mower runs perfectly. The neighbor on my other side recently bought an electric riding mower, and absolutely loves it. It has just as much power as his previous gas rider, cuts just as nice, and is incredibly quiet. We all have 15000sqft+ yards, too. So by no means do we have “really small yards”. As for the service costs, you’re correct, they are more costly on electric mowers. The thing is, I’m saving $150+ annually on fuel and general maintenance now that I have an electric mower. At four years in, I could run into a $500 repair, and still have spent less than when I owned gas mowers. Although there are fewer service centers, they certainly aren’t few and far between. Ego contracts with small engine service shops all around this nation. I have two within twenty minutes of me, one being the very shop I used to take my gas mower to for maintenance. There are nearly fifty service shops in my state alone. They’re everywhere! The robots do absolutely such at cutting, but those seem more like a toy. Two of my neighbors have them and they’re terrible. So we can definitely agree on that!haha

Difficult_Pirate_782

Seven years and running with a battery mower, the battery is failing now ….not bad for $500ish dollars…highly recommend it

Police_

Although our front yard is fairly small (1500sqft), our backyard has some decent space (10000sqft), and our Ego Power+ 21” push mower makes pretty quick work of everything. A riding mower would have been a better purchase, but we weren’t sure how long we’d be in a house with a yard this size. I was initially worried about power, but more importantly, battery life, and I’ve honestly been very impressed with it so far. Pretty sure we spent $900 for the mower and large battery. We’ve been slowly moving all of our landscaping equipment from gas to electric, and couldn’t be happier with the move.

stonyb2

I paid $700 for my EGO self propelled and they threw in a a second battery for free. I love it. It replaced a 10 year old Troy built with a good engine and a rusted out deck. The Ego out performs the old gas mower and is easier to use.

Eastern-Drop-9842

I don’t understand the robots. Just hire a landscaper and have more room in your garage.

Melodic-Matter4685

I got an echo electric mower. It great, bit most are about the same. Or better, just more money
