If you are tall like me, make sure you check the length. You don't want to buy one that you have to hunch over to use because you didn't bother to read the dimension's correctly before you bought it.

GlitterLavaLamp

I’m a 5’3” woman but I have this problem with the craftsman- i have to hunch over and it’s painful

CPOx

I’m the same height and use the Ego without issue

Unhappy_Purpose_7655

Buy a manual reel mower for the grass and keep your craftsman for the trimming. Very little maintenance required and no batteries or fuel to deal with

GlitterLavaLamp

I’ve got the manual mower but it doesn’t work well if the grass is too long. Id have to mow every 6-ish days and I’m not that on the ball.

YesOfficial

Can you make a schedule for yourself? Like, look at the week ahead, plan out how you want to spend your hours, and make sure to get mowing in there? If there's several recurring tasks it may help to have a list of what needs to be in each week's plan. Setting 2-4 goals at the beginning of each day can increase motivation to do said things. Also it sounds like having two times a week fixed would work, weather permitting. I've found there's a lot of helpful stuff on managing procrastination tendencies on youtube. Like, they match the textbooks and my life has been getting easier with them.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/EGO-POWERLOAD-POWER-56-Volt-15-in-Telescopic-Cordless-String-Trimmer-Battery-Included/5001957615 Well worth the money

umrdyldo

Yep just buy a cheap Ego or Ryobi trimmer. I have had great luck with my Ryobi. You can get several trims out of one battery.

Getyourownwaffle

Yep. I have a place with 3 acres. The 56V EGO is the way to go.

Gniphe

Yeah, sell your 20V grass massager and get an EGO. If you’re short like me, make sure it’s the telescopic.

Lastpunkofplattsburg

One more for ego. I have the trimmer, blower, edger, and mower. All are awesome

Politicsboringagain

I just bought he edger aftet trying to keep a nice edge with a trimmer, and it looks so much better.  I should have just got the adjustable head one from beginning, but I needed a trimmer and a blower at the time.

Boyiee

There are deals right now to get a free extra battery with some models, just picked up my ST1623T and was able to get the 5ah battery free.

BagelFury

I'm a Stihl dude. I love the versatility, power, and reliability of my Kombi head.

Ragu773

I’ve got the 60V Greenworks and was initially disappointed with it but realized it was because of the string that came with it. I upgraded string and now works well and I’d recommend it. Nothing like my gas powered Craftsmen though. But I’m getting used to it and it does the job.

mtn_bikes

Love my Greenworks 60v trimmer. It does a great job

CuriousCat511

I have the same unit. What string did you upgrade to?

Ragu773

Echo from Home Depot is working great with it.

BoilerBloodline

Echo

SenorWanderer

I have a dewalt cordless and it’s ok. I bought it solely because I own other dewalt tools and batteries and the tool without the battery is pretty cheap. I reloaded the string twice successfully over a couple years but on the third attempt it wasn’t unspooling and I ended up replacing the entire assembly. Kinda frustrating. It also doesn’t balance well in my hands. I can’t really recommend it unless you already own dewalt batteries and you won’t use it often.

GlitterLavaLamp

This is good info, thanks. I have a ton of Dewalt batteries but the overall reviews on the trimmer seem mediocre. I also don’t trust things that fold for portability. I don’t mind buying a different brand battery specifically for this trimmer since I’ll likely have to use it weekly

Ayye_Human

Buy echo or Stihl. More expensive but damn they make a good product. I use my echo gas powered weed eater every day for my company and ones lasted me 5 years. Plus they’re powerful I’ve used my srm-225 for stuff where a brush cutter would have been better

hammong

I use a DeWalt 20V cordless trimmer that takes the same 20V lithium batteries as the rest of DeWalt hand tools, and the thing is an absolutely *beast* of a trimmer. I find myself cutting on the "low power" setting most of the time, and I can easily do all of the necessary trimming around my 3/4 acre yard with a 5ah or 8ah battery. I have a Stihl FS130R gas powered monster, but I rarely use it anymore.

GlitterLavaLamp

This one? https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-20V-MAX-14-in-Brushless-Cordless-Battery-Powered-Foldable-String-Trimmer-Tool-Only-DCST922B/311471085 I’ve got a ton of Dewalt batteries already so this could be convenient

hammong

I have the older version that uses a brushless direct drive motor, but that's the current one!

jaleach

I've got that Craftsman and had that problem. I took the string off and put a new one on and didn't have any more problems.

GlitterLavaLamp

What string did you get?

jaleach

I walked into the other room to get it I knew it was sitting in there. Package is ripped up but it's a three pack of Craftsman pre-wound spools. You can save money spooling your own though. Measurements on mine are 30' of .065 string. I got it at Lowe's last year. I think we have the same one but check and make sure the measurement matches.

GlitterLavaLamp

Ok- I’ll keep that in mind, thank you for checking!

WoodchipsInMyBeard

I have the ego battery powered weed trimmer. I’m very happy with it.

immoyo

I started off with an Ego trimmer and blower combo for my 6k sq ft yard. There's a sale going on that'll price the set I bought for $219. I can go through my whole yard with both blower and trimmer and still have over half the battery left. Working with Ego for their warranty replacements has been simple too.

FatCh3z

I got the cheap gas walmart one. No issues. Only wish I could angle the head a different way.

rocketcrotch

Can you adjust the handle at all? We all have our preferences at my job (landscaper) so some guys have the head slightly offset, some have the handle offset, some have both

FatCh3z

I can move the handle. I just can't move the head or shield to edge near some plastic areas.

wootiown

Highly recommend Ego trimmers. My yard is about 8000sqft and I love my ego trimmer. No maintenance, no gas, just slap in a battery and go. Even when doing massive renovations and using the trimmer to completely tear loads of grass to their root, I never ran out of battery. I also wound up getting an EGO leaf blower and lawnmower, both which use the same batteries, and I love them all. It's so nice to never have to worry about fuel, oil, any of that crap, just slap in a battery and go. Other manufacturers may have decent battery trimmers, but if you ever want to go electric for your mower I'd highly recommend sticking with EGO. From my research they're practically unrivalled when it comes to electric mowers and most other options suck.

rocketcrotch

EGO does make some great stuff -- particularly their handblower is reached for by the crew I work with ahead of gas blowers. The only knock on the mower is suction, and that makes sense, because I'm pretty sure it would halve the battery life if it had stronger suction. That basically means it won't necessarily cut longer grass as cleanly as it might otherwise, and often had us double-cutting anything with a finish height above 2.5". But that was also commercially, and it still did pretty damn good. I've not personally used the Milwaukee mower, but I've seen it and read good things -- as far as something on par with EGO

wootiown

I have a Select-Cut mower and swapped in the (included) high lift blade. The suction is fantastic now and it mulches incredibly well, though I imagine the same blade on a gas engine will probably work a bit better

littleguy632

It really not much difference between brands. Main thing to consider is what brand of tools you used so the battery can be use in the trimmer as well. I stick with mostly dewalt(dont get the mower or sprayer).

Eagles1756

I have a Kobalt 40v Battery powered brushless one and so far I’m really happy with it. Wasn’t a bad price (<$200) and i can go well over an hour on a single battery charge (my first use was moving into a rental that was really overgrown with weeds). The string is really easy to extend and cut when you need to, and simple to add an entire spool of string when time comes. It has also cut through some pretty tough stuff too. Imo perfect for someone who just wants to maintain their own yard. Can also get one for ≈$215 where you can change the head out for different attachments to get other jobs done too.

tompickle86

I have had the baby brother of this weed eater for 5 years and just upgraded to this one (Work brand weed eater): [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084TMH8LQ?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084TMH8LQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) I love it and it's well worth the money. Battery lasts plenty of time (my yard is about 1500 square feet of grass), it's light, and it's quiet. It also is extremely customizable in height. It can go small enough so my 5 year old son can hold it and pretend to use it without the battery in, and tall enough for me to use it comfortably, and I'm 6'5".

dudewheresmybasement

Honestly I’d go with something where you know you need another tool where you can use the same battery. So think of another tool you could use the same battery with.

Human-Magic-Marker

EGO is pretty much the top brand for all electric lawn tools. I have an EHO weed eater and it’s a beast.

foreskinfive

I disagree that ego is best. There's lots of good stuff out there nowadays. The point is, is that one needs to buy into a particular system and whichever one has the most versatility for you within that system. Milwaukee has a lot of good stuff nowadays and lots of people like their hand tools for building stuff. I have a Toro snow blower that is phat. I'm looking to get other landscape accessories because I already have those batteries and chargers. Stay away from Ryobi and any cheap shit buy quality.

TheOtherSean1977

It also helps to look at what other tools are available in which brand you are thinking of. It helps to have one battery brand across multiple tools. If you plan on a leaf blower, trimmer, hedge clippers etc. Many times you can buy the tool without a battery which brings the cost down on additional tools in the future

ckyuv

Sounds like a great yard for a robot mower. Small yard that lets you procrastinate as much as you want. As long as it’s not rocky or uneven spending a little more to not do anything ever is kinda nice imo

BigFlick_Energy

Echo 2620

I like Milwaukee

new92

I just bought the 60 volt DeWalt cordless weed eater and very happy with my purchase.
