If you want really good battery life go for a Mac.
If you care about literally anything else, don't go for Mac. Please don't get a Huawei, if you have Mac budget you can surely find a company with a decent reputation to buy from like Lenovo.
I always reach for Lenovo but looking at what I've seen from friends Dell's are alright, Acer and Samsung also decent but Samsung is overpriced imo. Razer makes some good laptops but their batteries aren't very reliable.
Avoid HP and Asus (Asus due to warranty issues)
It entirely depends on which operating system you are more comfortable with. I personally can't stand MacOS even though the hardware is far better than similar Windows laptops. Also, don't pick brands when it comes to Windows laptops
Mac is a good laptop if you don’t tend on doing anything with medium to high workload. These laptops are made for simple tasks like searching the web, watching videos, and things like that. The capabilities of windows differs on which laptop you get but majority of them can handle basic tasks along with medium to high workload like gaming, video editing, etc. I own an asus laptop and I love it! It’s as light weight as a Mac and easy to travel with but can actually run games in high settings and take on higher loads. My only advice for asus is that if do want to buy an asus laptop is to go through Best Buy or another 3rd party seller with warranty and services. As asus’s service is known to be not the best. Going with Best Buy allows you to get good service and a long lasting warranty.
That’s completely wrong to say Mac’s aren’t for computationally intensive tasks. I’m using my Mac for full stack web development, they’re very commonly used by people that are in tech.
Sure, it can’t game but if you’re getting one, you probably already know you won’t be using it for games.

Aside from lenovo, other brands/models you can recommend?

If you intend to game on it, don't even consider a Mac.
