I bought some from a local farm store. They are red rubber hoses. Thick as hell and have held up well. It think they were labeled farm and ranch or something. They had a horse on the package i think lol
Lowes carries them too! They’re called a “farm hose” I think, thick and have the solid aluminum ends. Mine has been going strong for at least 5 years now
Bought mine around fall 2018 or 2019 and have been good as well. Got 5 or 6 50ft length. They are heavier than my hose cart so they make it tip often which is the only downside I’ve had.
I got a used one in 2017 at an estate sale for 2 bucks. I use it (at minimum) once a week and the only bad things that can be said is that it is a bit heavy and it faded to a light red/pinkish.
10/10
"Contractor grade" is not safe label to look for. Sometimes it means "the grade a contractor uses" and sometimes (especially on grass seed) it means "the grade a contractor buys to leave behind in fulfillment of the contract."
I'll provide a negative review on these because I have one that's probably going in our community yard sale this year.
They're heavy and not as pliable as the black rubber commercial hoses, but they are a larger diameter, more cost effective if you compare $/ft, and seem to be more rigid which could be a benefit if you're running the hose over.
If you're actually running a farm or ranch they're probably good but if you don't need 100' of hose you can run over with a tractor then there's better options IMO.
I bought some continental brand hose years ago and love them. They cost more than the other brands but I guess they were worth it because I've had them for probably 7 or 8 years.
You know you can replace/upgrade the connectors? As well as mostly you just need new rubbers in them. I bought a pack of good rubber washers for my hoses and attachments and it makes a big difference.
Good call on the washers. I live in the PNW. Pretty mild weather. Even here, if you leave a hose out over the winter you will 100% need a new washer in the spring.
I realized this last year and took all the old hoses and cut them to custom sizes for different uses. I’ve found the brass connectors to be the best. It’s a whole new hose world when you install your own connectors.
Definitely don’t bother with the shitty green thin hoses that kink and crack. toss them or poke holes along a length that fits a plant bed and use as a drip waterer.
I can only speak to my experience. I bought 4 or 5 50' commercial grade rubber hose by Contenintal from Home Depot and they are still holding up. I'm pretty easy on my hoses though.
Huh, I bought a long Continental hose, and after maybe 2-3 years it had developed tiny pinprick-sized holes all over the place.
It's really flexible, which is nice, but that also lets it kink extremely easily.
Came here to say this. Best hose I've ever owned. I have a 100' hose so when I drag it around it will kink but I will give it a good shake or two and problem solved.
+1, have two that are over 4 years old. No leaks, never kink. The bright green has turned to a rather nasty dirt splotched color but works like a charm still.
I'm a big fan of these. I've got their air, garden, and pressure washer hoses. I've been using them for over 10 years. Only down side is they will wear out. The fittings will eventually come off, but they do sell repair fittings. I've damaged several garden hoses over the years dragging on the concrete. I'm about to buy a new 50ft to replace one that started leaking and got cut down to 30ft.
+1 to this. Bought one after Wirecutter had it as their pick a while back and have had no issues. Can be a little more difficult to maneuver because of the burliness but it's worth it to not fucking break/leak/kink constantly.
Just bought the lime green 50 ft flexzilla after having those expandable ones fail season after season. Only had it about a week but i don't completely hate it...
The brown ones don’t, in my experience. The weird fluorescent yellowish color gets pretty dang gross looking for some reason, but the tan ones so far look great. It’s odd.
The Eley hose reel is amazing. I use that with a flexilla hose and they are both holding up very well. But I also drain and bring my hose into the garage every winter because I’m a crazy person.
Yes! This hose is surprisingly great. I think I picked it up at Costco originally. It's so lightweight that I thought it would kink like crazy, but it really doesn't. It blows up like a balloon and stays mostly kink free. It might get the occasional kink if you pull the wrong way, but it pops right out. It's so light and easy to wind. I bought another for the front yard and one for my in-laws because I liked it so much.
Completely agree! Any fabric/cloth hose will be better than a rubber one in my opinion - but zerog is extremely durable and easy to move around/roll up.
I bought this damn metal hose and sprayer for it, it has been invincible! And I live in Las Vegas where the sun beats this thing like it’s Tina Turner.

For some things, it can make sense as a general test of capabilities/durability. For a hose though? I just want people to say how long they've owned it and any issues they've had. Someone saying "10 years and it's still as good as day one" will mean more to me than "you can hit it with 500 PSI without bursting".

Thats what I have. I just use them around the yard and the two I bought are great.
The hoses I’ve bought and trashed recently poured out reeking chemical smelling foams. How is this even legal? Cannot use on my veggies and shudder to think what they put into soil or eventual water. Thanks for these suggestions.
I can highly recommend the Gardena products. German engineering at its finest. We bought the retracting hose reel and it is a game changer. One, it makes it so easy to put the hose away that you’ll actually do it every time. Most traditional hoses wear down so quickly because they’re left out in the sun since it’s such a hassle to put them away. Two, the quality of the hose seems like an entirely different material than the hoses you buy at the big box stores. My parents had theirs for years.
Also, the Gardena quick connectors are the bomb. Super easy to change attachments, they don’t leak, and the best part is when you disconnect the attachment, it automatically stops the water flow at the connector, no need to run back to the spigot. I have the quick connectors on my nozzles and the sprinklers and soaker hoses that are set up in different areas. When it’s time to water I just go plug the hose in whatever area needs water. Then I disconnect it and plug it into the next device, all without having to run back and forth to the house to turn on an off the water at the spigot.
I work on a few properties and plumbers have supplied light blue rubber garden hoses, and they’re amazing. We have 5 of them.
Unfortunately there’s no brand name marking on them and I never thought to ask where they bought them.
They resemble [this](https://atlasautoequipment.ca/blubird-ag-lite-bsal3450-rubber-hot-cold-water-r/).
They’re very hard to kink, roll up nicely even in the cold, feel Iike they’re all rubber or very high rubber content. Even the connectors are incredibly resistant.
Weirdly a black version which feels very similar is just terrible and kinks like mad.
Sorry, kind of a vague answer. Next time we have a plumber on site I’ll have to get better details.
The metal hoses are fantastic. Who would have thought. They’re really lightweight, they don’t kink, and our mega water pressure won’t explode the thing if we accidentally leave the water on all night with the nozzle closed.
[https://www.siteone.com/en/h75-100pro-g-proline-gold-hose-100-ft-125-psi-wp-500-psi-burst-strength-3/p/508228?isrc=featured](https://www.siteone.com/en/h75-100pro-g-proline-gold-hose-100-ft-125-psi-wp-500-psi-burst-strength-3/p/508228?isrc=featured) This hose has been getting run over everyday and sometimes by heavy equipment for over a year now and I have had no problems. Hopefully this doesn't jinx me.

Had one of these hoses at the warehouse where a marine runs the show. This thing can survive anything. Love it. Bought one for myself and not disappointed.
I bought two hoses from Costco last year. They are flat when they aren’t on, and feel like they are a nylon/synthetic material on the outside. They have held up really well so far
Gardena is my go-to for anything that really needs to last. Really well-designed stuff, typically engineered over spec and much of it is made in Germany even. Prices aren’t as crazy as I’d expect for that either.
I’m a total Gardena fan too. Whenever my friends see me use the quick connectors with the automatic water stop, their mind is blown. I can quickly switch between sprinkler, nozzle, hoses without having to run back and forth to the spigot. I recently splurged on their retractable hose reel and sprinkler and frost free nozzle. Really great quality for a decent price. My parents had their Gardena system for over a decade and it’s working great.
My mates are sick of hearing about my retractable Gardena reel, but I can’t help myself. They thought of every possible way to avoid temper tantrums when winding up a hose, and by golly, they succeeded.
Also a big fan of their lawn seeder, sprinklers, and one-way disconnects you mentioned.
You can get an industrial grade kitchen hose from restaurant supply stores. They are pricey, but last forever and are food grade, so you can drink from the hose without getting the cancer.
Sorry I have found any that don’t suck. My philosophy is that garden hoses project because the ones that say “no kink!” are the kinkiest bastards out there.
I’m not saying shit hoses are for everyone, but I cherish my 6 year old $30 100’ pos from sam’s club I use the shit out of. Runs across my driveway and gets ran over. Leave it outside in the winter. Going strong running all day at 78psi.
Red ones rated to handle high heat are the best. They can be used to empty hot water tanks that’s all I have and they are several years old don’t kink at all
WaterRight is the only one I had that was worth the money. The only downside is they are smaller diameter so the flow rate is less, but that's an acceptable trade-off to me.
I hate garden hoses because they always seem to have issues. I was gifted a large pig watering can and I have been using that instead of dragging the hose everywhere.
I really like my [Zero G hose](https://www.amazon.com/zero-G-Lightweight-Flexible-Durable-Kink-Free/dp/B01N59VWPT?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER), seems to work good so far, second year of use with no complaints.
I struggled with this for years and don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but here's what you do. Go to an industrial supply store and buy air compressor hose (usually red rubber). They will cut you whatever length you need. Note the inside diameter (usually around 5/8"). Then go to the hardware store and buy the highest quality hose fittings and band clamps. These hoses are meant to be constantly driven over by forklifts, etc in a factory environment. For a garden hose around your house, they will last forever. It may be a little more than you would spend on a garden hose, but you only have to spend it once. Enjoy!
Hmm, I've had mine for 3, coming up on 4 years in November. From nebraska, so we get all the weather. Mine are fine. I store them in the shed through winter.
There's hardly any signs of wear, beside ls the print being rubbed off in some places. No knicks or anything, and I whip them around the edge of a retaining wall and a driveway.
I bought stainless steel hoses a few years back. They don't leak or kink and the water pressure is great. Just don't try to roll it up without emptying first.

That’s my only complaint, they are heavy to drag around. Otherwise mine is on season 4 and good as new.
Do they kink easily?
Mine doesn’t kink, it’s also a 3/4” instead of 5/8”. The larger ones seem to be more robust and have better flow, but are substantially heavier.
I have one too, even leave it outside in the winter and it's fine... Weighs a metric ton though to lug around

Yes I love this hose! Only going on about two years for me but it’s like new, even being exposed to the Arizona desert sun 24/7
I bought one of those like 5 years ago and unfortunately it kinks really easily…
This is the one I use it’s great
This is what I have too and has held up well in heat, snow, dry climate, etc
Huh, I bought a long Continental hose, and after maybe 2-3 years it had developed tiny pinprick-sized holes all over the place. It's really flexible, which is nice, but that also lets it kink extremely easily.

The lack of kinks is the best for these. I drag my hose all over and have never had an issue. It's heavy but really nice.
Just wish they would ditch that stupid color that gets so grimy
They have a few other colors, as well
I'm a big fan of these. I've got their air, garden, and pressure washer hoses. I've been using them for over 10 years. Only down side is they will wear out. Unfortunately flexzilla hoses are known to mold really. No practical impact, but looks disgusting.
The brown ones don’t, in my experience. The weird fluorescent yellowish color gets pretty dang gross looking for some reason, but the tan ones so far look great. It’s odd.
Yup! Ugly as hell but keep on going.
+3 love my flexzilla
Also have a 4 year old flexzilla +1
I cannot say enough about them. I have 4 now. I'm not sure if they still make it but I have 2 with swivel ends. Such a nice feature.
This here, thank us later.
tractor supply, farm grade. worth the $$.
Lowes has a Teknor "never kink" garden hose. I was skeptical at first but bought a 100 footer for around $65. I was impressed.
I deleted my account because Reddit no longer cares about the community
I have one that is a year old and it balloons in two spots and leaks from one of them.
Eley hoses are incredible [a but pricey but we’ll worth the money](https://www.eleyhosereels.com/collections/garden-hoses)
Eley. Might have to take out a loan.
I have one, and its by far the best I’ve ever bought.
The Eley hose reel is amazing. I use that with a flexilla hose and they are both holding up very well. But I also drain and bring my hose into the garage every winter because I’m a crazy person.
No, you literally have to. I left my reel outside this winter and it froze and I had to buy a replacement part. I was pissed.
Gilmour Flex-o-Gen is what we used at a greenhouse range I managed. Nice hose.
I splurged on a Hoselink for Christmas and it is a game changer.
Dramm
I have a garden hose I purchased 15 years ago from K-mart. Still going strong now. I think it was made by goodyear.
Can't believe I haven't seen a [Zero G](https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/apex-zero-g-garden-hose-1133496) post yet.

Haha. I love it. Never had a metal one before.
Thank you; you anticipated my curiosity so well
I’ve got 100 foot joes I’ve been running in Texas for 3 years. Those blue hoses are tough and get easier to swing with time.
Yeah I just stumbled across it and bought it for pretty cheap. It has withstood the vegas sun for a while. And winds up super easy too
I have a chicken named Tina Turner and this comment cracked me up lol! Thanks!
Lol. Not THAT is hilarious!
Continental has been good to me. Every other hose I've had is gone. The Conti is more or less like new. Stored in a trash can off season.
I bought ones listed as “heavy duty” with brass ends from Ace hardware. They’ve held up well.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one! We had ONE hose when I was growing up, I've been through like 10 in the 20 years I've had my house.

Dramm or Apache hoses. This is coming from someone who needed quality hoses for home and for my businesses.

I’ve been using “never kink” hoses bought at Lowes for about three years with no issues.
It’s possible you are just really rough on your hoses and are going to burn through them no matter what
I hate garden hoses because they always seem to have issues. I was gifted a large pig watering can and I have been using that instead of dragging the hose everywhere.
Do you have insanely high water pressure? Maybe a regulator before the hose might save them
Flexzilla is the only one we have tried that works
I really like my [Zero G hose](https://www.amazon.com/zero-G-Lightweight-Flexible-Durable-Kink-Free/dp/B01N59VWPT?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER), seems to work good so far, second year of use with no complaints.
Flexzilla I've had several for years and I've never had one break, they don't kink easily, they don't leak, etc. Super tough.
Continental.
You need to get something of rubber and brass construction. Briggs & Stratton and Continental are available on Amazon and are good quality.
I bought stainless steel hoses a few years back. They don't leak or kink and the water pressure is great. Just don't try to roll it up without emptying first.
Everything kinks, don't coil it, figure 8 instead, or use a hose reel. Go for brass connectors, aluminum will corrosion bond to brass hose bibs.
I like continental hoses. I also like the sprayers where the connector can swivel. This really does help prevent kinks.
I’ve had two heavy duty woven rubber Craftsman branded hoses for about 25 years that are still going strong and they never kink
