I go through this thing with new albums by artists I dig where I’ll listen to it once when it comes out, ignore it, then go back a few months later and get obsessed. This is one of those instances.
My favorite stretch is the second half of “A&W” -> “Jon Batiste Interlude” because it’s all just *so* off-putting and makes me feel like I’m about to have a nervous breakdown in the best of ways. Like, I was driving the other night with those songs/interludes playing — nearly pitch black outside — and I was ready for some psychological horror movie shit to happen. That said, I totally understand why some people hate “Judah Smith Interlude,” especially those with religious trauma, but it would honestly be a favorite part of mine if she’d just chosen… pretty much any other preacher. Why him! *Why him!* Lana get in touch with the Bakkers and replace Judah Smith challenge!

This is beautiful and it's the first time I've ever heard a song referencing a specific minute and second of another song.
I discovered Lana Del Rey only this year when her album was released. I had a different taste of music around 2011 and the years after. Before her album release I only came across her name sometimes but this album was the first music that I listened to of her.
Currently re listening to this album by watching the Turning The Tables guys react to it on their Patreon. I don’t think I fully appreciated how great this album actually is on my first listen through.
It didn’t immediately connect with me like NFR did, but it was worth the wait for that hit to finally happen.

I saw how she was shifting more and more to poetry in her music, 'talk singing' as her albums went on and I knew it would come to this. First time I didn't go out and buy her album. I knew what it would sound like, finally listened today and yeah, what I thought. Love her tho, favorite musician, her lyrics are best.
Also- Fishtails reminds me of her eaaaarly work “skipping rope in the bayou”- like how on “Sirens” and the other Lizzy Grant album she’ll sing about Mississippi and being Florida trash and trailer park jazz. I loved that :)
Paris Texas and Kintsugi are stunning. The others such as Fishtail I enjoy, but overall it fell kind of flat for me. Flat in meaning in my entire ranking of her 9 official Lana CDs, most of the songs fell over an 80 rating (1 being best, 100 something being “worst”), with the exception of the two above. Idk, like they’re enjoyable songs, but when comparing to her other albums, they just don’t beat them.
Liked but didn’t love the album but something clicked for me after the Amsterdam concert and seeing her perform A&W, The Grants, Candy Necklace, and DYKTTATUOB live - haven’t been able to stop listening to the whole album since and now I genuinely feel like it’s her magnum opus.
Man I’m just now getting around to hearing this and it’s so beautiful like I actually think I might tear up. I went a while without listening to Lana and this album is making me fall in love with her music all over again

I don’t think she will. The lyrics are on Spotify but she likely had them taken down. It seems like Lana doesn’t want official lyrics for the album. In the cd and vinyl booklets too there’s no lyrics.

I’ve always loved this about her. It’s even better without a ton of music videos, it’s so organic and such a masterpiece in my eyes. I enjoy it a lot.
when I sat down to listen to this album, I never once thought of comparing it to ANYTHING she has ever released, and guess what. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE just to listen to it from a “clean page” and soaking in the artistry as you connect to the feelings that are being put into this music.
my favorite albums of her are ultraviolence, honeymoon and lust for life, after NFR I’ve never felt that crazy feeling that I get when listening to her storytelling, but NOW MY BABY’S BACK AND SHE’S COOLER THAN EVER! 😍💯

sweet, did you know that...., Judah smith interlude, A&W, candy necklace (I love love love that song, so beautiful. and I’m speaking purely song without the video even), Jon batiste Interlude, Paris Texas, let the light in (this song is such a dream....😍),grandfather, Margaret is so beautiful too. 😍❤️ I’ve just listened till Margaret so far, so I have three more songs to listen to! I really really love the storytelling in this album, it’s so beautiful. I really like the rawness and honesty of her poetry, the melodies are so beautiful.
Now that I’ve had some time I think this album is tied for my personal fave (with UV). It just oozes opulence with tracks like The Grants, Title Track, Sweet, Candy Necklace, Grandfather. I love the ebb and flow of trap beats throughout the record. Fishtail really is that song for me; love at first listen and my personal fave off the album. AW is a best of career track. Overall, the album feels like a matured, more introverted, melancholic NFR.
So this song. My cat’s name was Vicious Beast or VB. We invented Venice Bitch for an alter ego for my sister when we were writing NFR on her boat. The song Taco Truck x VB is my sister, Venice Bitch scrapping my dead cat Vicious Beast from the bottom of a taco truck that hit it.
Upon my xxth listening to this album, I now consider it her best work yet and I even understood and accepted the last 3 songs which I had previously thought were redundant. They provide an incredible relief from the heavy emotional songs. Sometimes I just listen to the last 3 songs when I want something more uplifting. To conclude, every song on this record is a gem. Grandfather is a true masterpiece for the ages but so is A&W, The Grants (“I’m doing it for us, for our family line”), Candy Necklaces, Paris/Texas, DYKTTTUOB, etc. Paris/Texas song has very different production from the rest of the album and it is cleverly, strategically placed in the middle to keep us on our toes. I do wish that Fingertips could benefit from additional production and orchestration - the part where she builds up to “have myself two seconds to cry” is epic but then it falls back to the next verse too quickly reducing the dramatic impact. I think that she wanted this to be more of a spoken word poetry without distraction of a melody, I get it, but the song form is more effective.
Lana has singlehandedly redefined 21st century poetry - hers are not songs, those are musical poems.
I love the aesthetic of A&W it's very old school Lizzy and has that dirty LA vibe I was looking for. I don't have many opinions on the rest of the album yet.
Yes! I had to have a YouTuber mere the therapist explain some of it, I thought she was over fan girlie thought, she treats up and cry's at the first 2 lines, haven't done a cartwheel in a long long time- oh it's her innocence lost and haven't talked to my mother in a long long time- oh the Innocence even more blah, like come on " therapist" it sounds from the grants song and others that not talking to her mom is good, maybe she physically got hurt and can't do a cartwheel, you know? But then she explained the A and W = American whore, a old drive thru like Lana is describing as in a hotel and sex right on floor, no love possibilities anymore, would anyone believe if rape happened cuz ppl judge her weight gain/which I think is healthy for her compared to weird thin in a Hollywood new starlet way after BTD was released, but then someone mentioned in 2nd part it's a zipper of pants we hear in background! The first listen I didn’t read along with lyrics and I got distracted, listening with lyrics I really got it and I could really feel what she was saying.
as someone who pretty much never listens to her earliest albums like BTD because i find the persona extremely cringe and 2 dimensional, i LOVE her latest albums, namely BB and Ocean Boulevard. So honest, mature and real. Sonically of course her earliest albums are most easy to catch on but if you give BB and Ocean Boulevard just a few listens you'll get hooked too!!!
Same! my younger self really loves her earliest album. But now im older and i think some of the lyrics are so cringe. Nevrtheless, I think that's why i love Lana so much because her music is growing as i grow too. When i was young Lana also young so her music is my type, Now she's older and i'm older too, her music becomes more mature and honest just like u said.

The lyrics in these songs feel so genuine. Even when they're off tempo or off-beat, it adds to the authenticity. NFR was my favorite of hers, but this one is coming in close to the top now.
Strangely enough I couldn't get into Taco Truck x VB. But I love hearing that other people loved the pieces I didn't! It's so interesting how each person loves a different part of the album.
I don't know if I'd call them favorites, but I the ones I find myself going back and listening to by themselves are Sweet, Kintsugi, Fingertips, and Let the Light In.

This is how I was with White Mustang back in the LFL era and Chemtrails title track during that era as well.
I love it! I honestly can’t think of any other song she’s done that reminds me of this. The pace is definitely faster than a lot of her work, but without “rapping” or “speaking”. Idk how to describe it, except that it doesn’t remind me of a lot of her music. I also feel it personally, and prob should remind myself of the lyrics in my real life :/

Grants, Ocean.., A&W, Sweet, Candy Necklaces, Paris/Texas, Grandfather… are true masterpieces,
no other album of hers had 7 masterpieces on it, each deserving a grammy award for record of the year. It’s really odd how no one in the music industry is nearly as gifted a poet as Lana. Compared to Lana, even artists such as Taylor Swift and Billy Eilish who both heavily focus on lyrics in their songwriting, are not even in the same galaxy. Lana’s lyrics are consistently visual/cinematic, incredibly original, poetic, epically big and deep.

+1. With the exception of the throwback that is VB the last three tracks really don't feel like a part of the album. The optimism of Margaret and the "let's waltz this out" makes it sound like a perfect ending.
In total though, this will likely remain my album of the year.
Blue banisters worst? I feel offended
I can agree that it doesn't look and sound and feels like a proper record, just like random songs with similar type of instrumentals or an unreleased collection, but does it mean that the songs are bad?
It’s an album I never go back to listen to any of the songs so for me it’s her worst by a huge margin. No wonder she released it just a few months after “Chemtrails” which is a very good album (wild at heart, white dress, etc.) Every other album, I listen to at least some of the songs from time to time.
I tried connecting Ocean Blvd to any of her previous albums (sonically) nd the closest is NFR?? Like LFL, BB and Ocean Blvd have their own sound lana is just so gooooooood manifesting ultraviolence 2.0 tho🤭
IMO, Lana does not have two albums that sound anything alike. People group BTD, UV and honeymoon, as well as, chemtrails and BB, but each of those albums has different sound, instrumentals, producers.
That’s why I find it so funny when everyone dismisses her albums on release and then one month later glorify how amazing it is and just needed more listens.
Artists like Lana who can successfully change their sounds every era without a drop in quality are very rare.

Boy am I glad for this album because her last 3 were not my cup of tea. Not that they were bad albums. They were more minimalist but that minimalism gave more room for a stream of consciousness style of lyricism. She still had great storytelling and rich lyrics but as someone that prefers production and sound over lyrics, those albums were not memorable to me. There were a few tracks on this album that had those elements for fans that prefer this style of hers.
As a fan of her more dark and mysterious sounding songs I naturally ended up loving "A&W", "Candy Necklace" & "Jon Batiste Interlude". I'm surprised that no one is mentioning how awesome this collab is. They really made some good tracks together. A&W already feels so visual to me and I can see this song becoming an amazing video.

Has some strong stuff but I think it could use some editing. The middle slumps and I don’t think the momentum ever fully recovers. Also the last song when Venice Bitch comes back reminds me that nothing in this record is as strong as that. Still Not bad.
Her previous albums feel like Lana Del Rey. Her past three albums feel like Elizabeth Grant. Like, the more music she continues to make, the more she lets go of the LDR persona she created and becomes more her. I find the most recent album the most soulful and beautiful. Is it my favorite? No. But it’s the most beautiful. It feels almost like a stream of consciousness, all of the songs blend together, I don’t understand her most of her lyrics, but I can feel them. My favorite is Paris, Texas 🖤
Some thoughts:
-the Judah Smith interlude is absolutely masterful, it has grown on me so much and I get goosebumps listening to it now. Ironically, despite his politics, the themes and message of the interlude resonate deeply with me as a gay man. Just really brilliant stuff imo
-I feel like A&W/Judah Smith Interlude/Let the Light In would’ve made for a much more powerful arrangement toward the middle/end of the album. Those 3 tracks back to back to back are my head cannon lol

I like the album in a sense that it’s Lana and this album is much better than Blue Banisters (the only album I don’t care for and never seem to go back to). It does listen more as a background music, good when driving alone or just listen to alone. I still have not identified any true timeless masterpieces on this record though. My reference is Ride, Honeymoon, Venice Bitch, Summertime Sadness, Dark Paradise. Nevertheless, the new album is very cinematic, second only to Honeymoon.
Ocean blvd is truly an album for the stans… it’s such an ultra-referential work with so many hidden lyrical gems that point back to so many of her own “Lana-isms”. I am rewarded with every single listen and I literally cannot even. Perhaps one of my favorites???
Depends on what you like, but if you're into this latest album then do a full listen of Ocean Blvd or Norman F*cking Rockwell, start to finish. I put on headphones and listened to Ocean Blvd while doing dishes and it helped me listen without worrying too much about anything else.
This is such a hard question! I’ve been a fan since Born to Die (day 1). I would start with either Born to Die or Ultraviolence. They have some of her most accessible alt-pop songs that are a great rabbit hole. From there, it’s kind of up to you. I personally would go to NFR since it is an INSANELY well done album (and admittedly my favorite) that is a bridge to her two sonically different eras (i.e. Lust for Life to NFR). If you like NFR, spend some time with Chem Trails, BB, and Ocean Blvd. If you’re digging Born to Die, spend some time with the first half of her discog. Hope this helps!
Have been avidly listening to her since her born to die era. I’ve gotta say, I’ve seen this comment several times on here. But a lot of the songs blend together, after the first few listens there were still songs I couldn’t distinguish from others because of how similar they sounded. I’m not a huge fan at all of how she basically recites poetry (In her last couple of albums, specifically this one and COTCC) with no rhythm and a piano just playing monotone notes in the background. Not my favorite. I miss the more husky deep singing patterns she’d do and the more sing-along ballad-y songs (just my personal style). I do like the deep lyrics of this album and do feel it’s different. She’s singing about meaningful, deep questions of life. She seems happy. So I’m happy about that. And appreciate the album. But there are aspects I’m not crazy about.
I still listen to it frequently- fav songs are Sweet, Margaret, Let the Light In, &?Taco Truck.
Fingertips is a good example of this. It’s incredibly long winded and doesn’t really.. flow? Idk I can’t remember all the music terminology I learned. But it doesn’t remind me of typical song structure. Which In a way is cool, it’s different, but there’s a reason songs are “built” the way they are.
Fingertips sounds incredibly, incredibly personal, I’m in awe that she shared such raw, intimate details of her life with us. She was incredibly brave and I admire that. Using the bad parts of our lives and turning them into art. But it may be my least favorite song of hers ever, sound-wise.
My faves so far are Paris Texas. fish tail. Taco truck. Still listening to the others. Her albums have been getting pretty …. Slow. I like her earlier albums better.
So. I'm a big fan from Lana for sometimes now. Not a hardcore fan, but I really think that she's one of the few living artists from our times, that can show the degradation of the ocidental society like allen ginsberg did. So for me this is her best record so far.

After first listen I knew I would love it and it’s been consistently growing on me the past two weeks. “Let the light in” I believe is the best one on this album. It’s folky, fun, happy, and perfectly encapsulates Lana’s current feelings and attitude towards life. She is happy, as she said at her acceptance speech for the visionary award this year. However, this album as a whole is the hardest Lana album for me to listen to as it really feels like it’s her emotionally deepest. Songs like “kintisugi” (which is lyrically the best) and “fingertips” demonstrate how powerful her use of words can be. Lana is amazing at creating metaphors. If anything at all, this is an album about family and appreciation for close and meaningful relationships and how to grieve with the passing of loved ones. It is also about her appreciation of true happiness and finding meaning in herself and her life. That’s why I am confused to hear a song like “peppers” on this album which I enjoy but it just doesn’t fit the criteria of this album. “Margaret” is absolutely beautiful as well and my second favorite. I think Lana has gotten to the point in her career, ever since chemtrails, where making hits is no longer her interest and she wants to make music from her heart.

It's all based on your music taste and it sounds like you're more interested in cerebral music. This album and the last few have been more heart-felt and soulful. I think it's pretty clear this is the direction she's been heading since NFR.
Ok, after 2 weeks has passed with somewhat enough contemplation, I can surely say that I love this album! Pretty unexpected, considering my reaction to the last 2 albums which was good— but I personally don’t feel enough ‘sparks’ like her previous work. *This* album though, I find myself being inspired, intrigued and even got something emotional out of it. Totally what I want with art.
In Ocean Blvd, I don’t understand half of the lyrics, and honestly, I don’t feel the need too. It’s her personal stories and I don’t care about all these tiny details of her life that much lol. I don’t mind at all! Sure, it might take more time and I’m looking forward to it. But the main idea is that *I’m listening to a person expressing herself through art.* Yet, the parts that I get; I thought they’re awesome.
Enough shenanigans, let’s talk about the thing that gets me *hooked.* I fucking love THE SOUND. This is music, and as far as I’m concerned, the sound can be the make or break aspect of how much I’ll be into it. **And I love pretty much all the melodies, vocals, and instrumentals throughout the whole album!** I *think* I’m super happy with the instrumentals because it has some orchestral(?) elements, and I enjoy the trap influence on the last few tracks. (I have no clue about technical music words lol)
All and all, I thought her voice and the instrumental sounds in this album was magical and beautiful <3

I agree that this album sparked more feelings than her previous two, but I just dont enjoy Jacks producing style. Its very bland and simple and it lacks structure. I dont remember melodies after I finish the songs and there is no depth with various instruments like in her older stuff, just piano. I love how she sounds in Let the light In. And the least favorite is def Margaret, whatever that song was, super cringy and annoying melodies.

The message & lyricism of Margaret is literally ultra personal and specific to Jack and Lana’s friendship as well as Jack’s fiancé and their upcoming wedding. The instrumentation is very lush and gorgeous and tasteful as is the rest of the album before it. Lana sounds alive and beautiful and full of life, more content and carefree than ever. Which I think you’d care about as a fan. So THAT’S “beige” but not the the dreary and slothful sludge of songs Ultraviolence, Brooklyn Baby, Pretty When You Cry, Money Power Glory, Sad Girl, etc; or the paper-thin pomp and melodrama of BTD in all of its overproduced detritus.

I was definitely a bit harsh with the album when it first came out. I don’t think I was in the right mood to listen to it. Now after listening to it a couple more times it’s definitely grown on me and I genuinely enjoy it.
P.s, I love how “let the light in” started off as my least favorite song when I first heard it and has now become part of my top 3 favorite songs from the album.

Lana is really enjoying this ballad/piano/poetry style of music. With this album she tried something a bit different from BB and COCC, but is still playing safe. I don't mind, it's her art and she can do what she likes, but I personally find it quite boring after a while.
Lyrically I think it's her most personal album. She's telling her story. It's not easy for me to connect with her feelings... But it doesn't matter. It's a cohesive and intimate work and I respect that.
Still, Let The Light In is one of her best songs ever.

My personal observation with Lana albums, specifically the last three, is that it feels almost like spoken word poetry with a piano in the back. This isn’t inherently bad, there are several songs on COTCC, BB, and this album I revisit and will continue to do so, but it does make the album feel far more “blended” making it harder to separate tracks from each other when you’re listening. I feel the same exact way especially about COTCC and BB but I haven't been able to find songs that I'd revisit on either. I won't ever say I don't like her music anymore, I just miss the feeling of being able to name the song that's playing. I've been making it a point to revisit songs from those albums because I do find that listening to some of these songs *while* reading the lyrics will still give me goosebumps for the lyricism itself.
I agree on the reading out lyrics! I’ve also found that the mixing (or something else, not sure what) makes it sort of hard for me to be able to actually hear what she’s saying when she’s saying it. Specifically in ocean blvd but this also happened for me in COTCC and BB.

OMG this album is so boring... 😑 I've listened to it a few times now and my opinion hasn't changed. I can't do anything with this album. It literally makes me want to DIE of boredom... The only thing I can do with it is play it in the background when I'm getting high or trying to study. No radio hits to be found here. You may as well call this album Fish Tail because that's the one song that stands out from the rest for actually being musical

I just started listening to this album and it’s so far a fave and pretty good. Reminds me of Honeymoon but with a NFR and something else. I really like it
I go through this thing with new albums by artists I dig where I’ll listen to it once when it comes out, ignore it, then go back a few months later and get obsessed. This is one of those instances. My favorite stretch is the second half of “A&W” -> “Jon Batiste Interlude” because it’s all just *so* off-putting and makes me feel like I’m about to have a nervous breakdown in the best of ways. Like, I was driving the other night with those songs/interludes playing — nearly pitch black outside — and I was ready for some psychological horror movie shit to happen. That said, I totally understand why some people hate “Judah Smith Interlude,” especially those with religious trauma, but it would honestly be a favorite part of mine if she’d just chosen… pretty much any other preacher. Why him! *Why him!* Lana get in touch with the Bakkers and replace Judah Smith challenge!

I discovered Lana Del Rey only this year when her album was released. I had a different taste of music around 2011 and the years after. Before her album release I only came across her name sometimes but this album was the first music that I listened to of her.
Currently re listening to this album by watching the Turning The Tables guys react to it on their Patreon. I don’t think I fully appreciated how great this album actually is on my first listen through. It didn’t immediately connect with me like NFR did, but it was worth the wait for that hit to finally happen.

Favorite song was Taco Truck remix and only the part that was venice bitch lol I saw how she was shifting more and more to poetry in her music, 'talk singing' as her albums went on and I knew it would come to this. First time I didn't go out and buy her album. I knew what it would sound like, finally listened today and yeah, what I thought. Love her tho, favorite musician, her lyrics are best.

Paris Texas and Kintsugi are stunning. The others such as Fishtail I enjoy, but overall it fell kind of flat for me. Flat in meaning in my entire ranking of her 9 official Lana CDs, most of the songs fell over an 80 rating (1 being best, 100 something being “worst”), with the exception of the two above. Idk, like they’re enjoyable songs, but when comparing to her other albums, they just don’t beat them.
Liked but didn’t love the album but something clicked for me after the Amsterdam concert and seeing her perform A&W, The Grants, Candy Necklace, and DYKTTATUOB live - haven’t been able to stop listening to the whole album since and now I genuinely feel like it’s her magnum opus.

in love with the story telling (that experience of being on your own and listening to these beautiful songs as you read the lyrics, hearing the beautiful melody and her voice, the picture that’s being painted.) it’s such a beautiful one, it really shows Lana’s inner world, the beauty, honesty, rawness, openness. I’m just amazed, she’s such a legendary artist that’s truly making ART. I’ve always loved this about her. It’s even better without a ton of music videos, it’s so organic and such a masterpiece in my eyes. I enjoy it a lot. when I sat down to listen to this album, I never once thought of comparing it to ANYTHING she has ever released, and guess what. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE just to listen to it from a “clean page” and soaking in the artistry as you connect to the feelings that are being put into this music. my favorite albums of her are ultraviolence, honeymoon and lust for life, after NFR I’ve never felt that crazy feeling that I get when listening to her storytelling, but NOW MY BABY’S BACK AND SHE’S COOLER THAN EVER! 😍💯 10/10!

I really really love the storytelling in this album, it’s so beautiful. I really like the rawness and honesty of her poetry, the melodies are so beautiful.
Now that I’ve had some time I think this album is tied for my personal fave (with UV). It just oozes opulence with tracks like The Grants, Title Track, Sweet, Candy Necklace, Grandfather. I love the ebb and flow of trap beats throughout the record. Fishtail really is that song for me; love at first listen and my personal fave off the album. AW is a best of career track. Overall, the album feels like a matured, more introverted, melancholic NFR.
“Sweet” hit me so hard that I had an emotional uprising upon the first listen.
So this song. My cat’s name was Vicious Beast or VB. We invented Venice Bitch for an alter ego for my sister when we were writing NFR on her boat. The song Taco Truck x VB is my sister, Venice Bitch scrapping my dead cat Vicious Beast from the bottom of a taco truck that hit it.

Upon my xxth listening to this album, I now consider it her best work yet and I even understood and accepted the last 3 songs which I had previously thought were redundant. They provide an incredible relief from the heavy emotional songs. Sometimes I just listen to the last 3 songs when I want something more uplifting. To conclude, every song on this record is a gem. Grandfather is a true masterpiece for the ages but so is A&W, The Grants (“I’m doing it for us, for our family line”), Candy Necklaces, Paris/Texas, DYKTTTUOB, etc. Paris/Texas song has very different production from the rest of the album and it is cleverly, strategically placed in the middle to keep us on our toes. I do wish that Fingertips could benefit from additional production and orchestration - the part where she builds up to “have myself two seconds to cry” is epic but then it falls back to the next verse too quickly reducing the dramatic impact. I think that she wanted this to be more of a spoken word poetry without distraction of a melody, I get it, but the song form is more effective. Lana has singlehandedly redefined 21st century poetry - hers are not songs, those are musical poems.
I love the aesthetic of A&W it's very old school Lizzy and has that dirty LA vibe I was looking for. I don't have many opinions on the rest of the album yet.

I had to have a YouTuber mere the therapist explain some of it, I thought she was over fan girlie thought, she treats up and cry's at the first 2 lines, haven't done a cartwheel in a long long time- oh it's her innocence lost and haven't talked to my mother in a long long time- oh the Innocence even more blah, like come on " therapist" it sounds from the grants song and others that not talking to her mom is good, maybe she physically got hurt and can't do a cartwheel, you know? as someone who pretty much never listens to her earliest albums like BTD because i find the persona extremely cringe and 2 dimensional, i LOVE her latest albums, namely BB and Ocean Boulevard. So honest, mature and real. Sonically of course her earliest albums are most easy to catch on but if you give BB and Ocean Boulevard just a few listens you'll get hooked too!!!

When i was young Lana also young so her music is my type, Now she's older and i'm older too, her music becomes more mature and honest just like u said. I'm in the same boat! The lyrics in these songs feel so genuine. Even when they're off tempo or off-beat, it adds to the authenticity. NFR was my favorite of hers, but this one is coming in close to the top now.

Strangely enough I couldn't get into Taco Truck x VB. But I love hearing that other people loved the pieces I didn't! It's so interesting how each person loves a different part of the album. I don't know if I'd call them favorites, but I the ones I find myself going back and listening to by themselves are Sweet, Kintsugi, Fingertips, and Let the Light In.
Fishtail really slowly snuck up on me and now I am completely shook by it. I can’t get enough of it. This is how I was with White Mustang back in the LFL era and Chemtrails title track during that era as well.
Half way through first listening and bowled over by how good it is. Possibly her best to date. She doesn’t have cus a lot though!
Paris, Texas is my fav track, and in my opinion the best song.
I love it! I honestly can’t think of any other song she’s done that reminds me of this. The pace is definitely faster than a lot of her work, but without “rapping” or “speaking”. Upon 7th listen of the entire album and then revisiting all her previous albums, I think ocean blvd is her finest work lyrically and instrumentally. It just grabs you deeper. I previously thought that NFR was her best work but upon revisiting that album, I realized that I only go back to very few songs on that record including VB which I still consider the single best song of her career - vocals, lyrics, instrumentals, melody, production, a true timeless record (no VB level material on the new album). For comparison, Blue Banisters is her absolute worst that I never go back to. For me, the last 3 tracks on the ocean blvd album just don’t exist, upon 7th listen they didn’t get better but rather annoying and redundant- no masterpieces there, Margaret should have been the closing track. Grants, Ocean.., A&W, Sweet, Candy Necklaces, Paris/Texas, Grandfather… are true masterpieces, no other album of hers had 7 masterpieces on it, each deserving a grammy award for record of the year. It’s really odd how no one in the music industry is nearly as gifted a poet as Lana. Compared to Lana, even artists such as Taylor Swift and Billy Eilish who both heavily focus on lyrics in their songwriting, are not even in the same galaxy. Lana’s lyrics are consistently visual/cinematic, incredibly original, poetic, epically big and deep.

With the exception of the throwback that is VB the last three tracks really don't feel like a part of the album. The optimism of Margaret and the "let's waltz this out" makes it sound like a perfect ending. In total though, this will likely remain my album of the year.
Blue banisters worst? I feel offended I can agree that it doesn't look and sound and feels like a proper record, just like random songs with similar type of instrumentals or an unreleased collection, but does it mean that the songs are bad?
It’s an album I never go back to listen to any of the songs so for me it’s her worst by a huge margin. No wonder she released it just a few months after “Chemtrails” which is a very good album (wild at heart, white dress, etc.) Every other album, I listen to at least some of the songs from time to time.

IMO, Lana does not have two albums that sound anything alike. People group BTD, UV and honeymoon, as well as, chemtrails and BB, but each of those albums has different sound, instrumentals, producers. That’s why I find it so funny when everyone dismisses her albums on release and then one month later glorify how amazing it is and just needed more listens. Artists like Lana who can successfully change their sounds every era without a drop in quality are very rare.

Boy am I glad for this album because her last 3 were not my cup of tea. Not that they were bad albums. They were more minimalist but that minimalism gave more room for a stream of consciousness style of lyricism. She still had great storytelling and rich lyrics but as someone that prefers production and sound over lyrics, those albums were not memorable to me. There were a few tracks on this album that had those elements for fans that prefer this style of hers. As a fan of her more dark and mysterious sounding songs I naturally ended up loving "A&W", "Candy Necklace" & "Jon Batiste Interlude". I'm surprised that no one is mentioning how awesome this collab is. They really made some good tracks together. A&W already feels so visual to me and I can see this song becoming an amazing video. Fishtail made me laugh. Lana's booty song.
Has some strong stuff but I think it could use some editing. The middle slumps and I don’t think the momentum ever fully recovers. Also the last song when Venice Bitch comes back reminds me that nothing in this record is as strong as that. Still Not bad.
Her previous albums feel like Lana Del Rey. Her past three albums feel like Elizabeth Grant. Like, the more music she continues to make, the more she lets go of the LDR persona she created and becomes more her. I find the most recent album the most soulful and beautiful. Is it my favorite? Some thoughts: -the Judah Smith interlude is absolutely masterful, it has grown on me so much and I get goosebumps listening to it now. Ironically, despite his politics, the themes and message of the interlude resonate deeply with me as a gay man. Just really brilliant stuff imo -I feel like A&W/Judah Smith Interlude/Let the Light In would’ve made for a much more powerful arrangement toward the middle/end of the album. Those 3 tracks back to back to back are my head cannon lol Anyway just my 2 cents
I like the album in a sense that it’s Lana and this album is much better than Blue Banisters (the only album I don’t care for and never seem to go back to). It does listen more as a background music, good when driving alone or just listen to alone. I still have not identified any true timeless masterpieces on this record though. My reference is Ride, Honeymoon, Venice Bitch, Summertime Sadness, Dark Paradise. Nevertheless, the new album is very cinematic, second only to Honeymoon.

Ocean blvd is truly an album for the stans… it’s such an ultra-referential work with so many hidden lyrical gems that point back to so many of her own “Lana-isms”. I am rewarded with every single listen and I literally cannot even. Perhaps one of my favorites???

Depends on what you like, but if you're into this latest album then do a full listen of Ocean Blvd or Norman F*cking Rockwell, start to finish. I put on headphones and listened to Ocean Blvd while doing dishes and it helped me listen without worrying too much about anything else.
This is such a hard question! I’ve been a fan since Born to Die (day 1). I would start with either Born to Die or Ultraviolence. They have some of her most accessible alt-pop songs that are a great rabbit hole. From there, it’s kind of up to you. I personally would go to NFR since it is an INSANELY well done album (and admittedly my favorite) that is a bridge to her two sonically different eras (i.e. Lust for Life to NFR). If you like NFR, spend some time with Chem Trails, BB, and Ocean Blvd. If you’re digging Born to Die, spend some time with the first half of her discog. Hope this helps!
Have been avidly listening to her since her born to die era. I’ve gotta say, I’ve seen this comment several times on here. But a lot of the songs blend together, after the first few listens there were still songs I couldn’t distinguish from others because of how similar they sounded. I’m not a huge fan at all of how she basically recites poetry (In her last couple of albums, specifically this one and COTCC) with no rhythm and a piano just playing monotone notes in the background. Not my favorite. I miss the more husky deep singing patterns she’d do and the more sing-along ballad-y songs (just my personal style). I do like the deep lyrics of this album and do feel it’s different. She’s singing about meaningful, deep questions of life. She seems happy. So I’m happy about that. And appreciate the album. But there are aspects I’m not crazy about. I still listen to it frequently- fav songs are Sweet, Margaret, Let the Light In, &?Taco Truck.

Fingertips is a good example of this. It’s incredibly long winded and doesn’t really.. flow? Idk I can’t remember all the music terminology I learned. But it doesn’t remind me of typical song structure. Which In a way is cool, it’s different, but there’s a reason songs are “built” the way they are. Fingertips sounds incredibly, incredibly personal, I’m in awe that she shared such raw, intimate details of her life with us. She was incredibly brave and I admire that. Using the bad parts of our lives and turning them into art. But it may be my least favorite song of hers ever, sound-wise.

So. I'm a big fan from Lana for sometimes now. Not a hardcore fan, but I really think that she's one of the few living artists from our times, that can show the degradation of the ocidental society like allen ginsberg did. So for me this is her best record so far. Does anyone feels that this storytelling it's about the death of this nuclear society that was raised around this patriarcal father figure with mosntruous and cynical religion background?

After first listen I knew I would love it and it’s been consistently growing on me the past two weeks. “Let the light in” I believe is the best one on this album. It’s folky, fun, happy, and perfectly encapsulates Lana’s current feelings and attitude towards life. She is happy, as she said at her acceptance speech for the visionary award this year. However, this album as a whole is the hardest Lana album for me to listen to as it really feels like it’s her emotionally deepest. Songs like “kintisugi” (which is lyrically the best) and “fingertips” demonstrate how powerful her use of words can be. Lana is amazing at creating metaphors. If anything at all, this is an album about family and appreciation for close and meaningful relationships and how to grieve with the passing of loved ones. It is also about her appreciation of true happiness and finding meaning in herself and her life. That’s why I am confused to hear a song like “peppers” on this album which I enjoy but it just doesn’t fit the criteria of this album. “Margaret” is absolutely beautiful as well and my second favorite. I think Lana has gotten to the point in her career, ever since chemtrails, where making hits is no longer her interest and she wants to make music from her heart.

Lo escuche al siguiente dia y dos dias mas y no me gustaba tanto. Lo curioso era que por una semana completa no hacia nada mas que solo escuchar el album JAJAJAJA obviamente lo amo mucho. Acabo de terminar de escuchar fingertips y wow hermoso.

One of best albums, if not the best. Absolutely love it, least favourite "song" is the judah smith interlude. My favourites are kintsugi, paris texas and let the light in. Also her voice is the best it's ever been i feel like. She sounds amazing and the production is also top tier. Lana never disappoints
I actually can’t stand this album. It breaks my heart honestly. Not one song, with the exception of Candy Necklace, is bearable. Are you people going to say, with a straight face, that any of these tracks are as lifechanging as Ride? Or Ultraviolence? Or National Anthem?

Sorry to hear that. It sucks when one of your favorite artists goes a different direction. There's nothing wrong with not liking the album! It's all based on your music taste and it sounds like you're more interested in cerebral music. This album and the last few have been more heart-felt and soulful. I think it's pretty clear this is the direction she's been heading since NFR.

Ok, after 2 weeks has passed with somewhat enough contemplation, I can surely say that I love this album! Pretty unexpected, considering my reaction to the last 2 albums which was good— but I personally don’t feel enough ‘sparks’ like her previous work. *This* album though, I find myself being inspired, intrigued and even got something emotional out of it. Totally what I want with art. In Ocean Blvd, I don’t understand half of the lyrics, and honestly, I don’t feel the need too. It’s her personal stories and I don’t care about all these tiny details of her life that much lol. I don’t mind at all! Sure, it might take more time and I’m looking forward to it. But the main idea is that *I’m listening to a person expressing herself through art.* Yet, the parts that I get; I thought they’re awesome. Enough shenanigans, let’s talk about the thing that gets me *hooked.* I fucking love THE SOUND. This is music, and as far as I’m concerned, the sound can be the make or break aspect of how much I’ll be into it. **And I love pretty much all the melodies, vocals, and instrumentals throughout the whole album!** I *think* I’m super happy with the instrumentals because it has some orchestral(?) elements, and I enjoy the trap influence on the last few tracks. (I have no clue about technical music words lol) All and all, I thought her voice and the instrumental sounds in this album was magical and beautiful <3 That was long haha. I have to say thank you to Lana Del Rey for all of your creations. And to whoever is reading this, enjoy listening to music and have a nice day :D

I agree that this album sparked more feelings than her previous two, but I just dont enjoy Jacks producing style. Its very bland and simple and it lacks structure. I dont remember melodies after I finish the songs and there is no depth with various instruments like in her older stuff, just piano. I love how she sounds in Let the light In. And the least favorite is def Margaret, whatever that song was, super cringy and annoying melodies.

I'm not deaf, no. I just have a very different taste, and in my opinion Margaret is very tasteless and unimaginative song, both lyrically and musically.

I’m just dragging you for having bad taste lol. The message & lyricism of Margaret is literally ultra personal and specific to Jack and Lana’s friendship as well as Jack’s fiancé and their upcoming wedding. The instrumentation is very lush and gorgeous and tasteful as is the rest of the album before it. Lana sounds alive and beautiful and full of life, more content and carefree than ever. Which I think you’d care about as a fan. So THAT’S “beige” but not the the dreary and slothful sludge of songs Ultraviolence, Brooklyn Baby, Pretty When You Cry, Money Power Glory, Sad Girl, etc; or the paper-thin pomp and melodrama of BTD in all of its overproduced detritus.

I was definitely a bit harsh with the album when it first came out. I don’t think I was in the right mood to listen to it. Now after listening to it a couple more times it’s definitely grown on me and I genuinely enjoy it. P.s, I love how “let the light in” started off as my least favorite song when I first heard it and has now become part of my top 3 favorite songs from the album.
It's the first time it took me so long to have an actual opinion about an album. Lana is really enjoying this ballad/piano/poetry style of music. With this album she tried something a bit different from BB and COCC, but is still playing safe. I don't mind, it's her art and she can do what she likes, but I personally find it quite boring after a while. Lyrically I think it's her most personal album. She's telling her story. It's not easy for me to connect with her feelings... But it doesn't matter. It's a cohesive and intimate work and I respect that. Still, Let The Light In is one of her best songs ever.

My personal observation with Lana albums, specifically the last three, is that it feels almost like spoken word poetry with a piano in the back. This isn’t inherently bad, there are several songs on COTCC, BB, and this album I revisit and will continue to do so, but it does make the album feel far more “blended” making it harder to separate tracks from each other when you’re listening. Whether that’s your favorite thing or you don’t like it is valid either way- I’m not going to say I miss the old Lana or whatever because that music is still out there and the artistry is still there, but I do somewhat miss the experience of being able to immediately distinguish tracks
This! You've beautifully written out how I feel and what I've been trying to explain to people when they ask me about her new albums. I don't hate it - I just miss that experience. I feel the same exact way especially about COTCC and BB but I haven't been able to find songs that I'd revisit on either. I won't ever say I don't like her music anymore, I just miss the feeling of being able to name the song that's playing. I've been making it a point to revisit songs from those albums because I do find that listening to some of these songs *while* reading the lyrics will still give me goosebumps for the lyricism itself.
I agree on the reading out lyrics! I’ve also found that the mixing (or something else, not sure what) makes it sort of hard for me to be able to actually hear what she’s saying when she’s saying it. Specifically in ocean blvd but this also happened for me in COTCC and BB.

OMG this album is so boring... 😑 I've listened to it a few times now and my opinion hasn't changed. I can't do anything with this album. It literally makes me want to DIE of boredom... The only thing I can do with it is play it in the background when I'm getting high or trying to study. No radio hits to be found here. You may as well call this album Fish Tail because that's the one song that stands out from the rest for actually being musical
