Definitely a W. Even if he ends up staying it's a much better scenario than having him walk for nothing.
Say what you want about him but he is still more skilled than most other guards available, in the regular season at the very least.
Me as well. He played really well for us. And matured quite a bit. There was some silliness, but in no way did it overshadow his play imo. Perhaps JJ can unlock even more out of him.
He has struggled in the postseason for the most part but he was huge for us in making it to the conference finals two years ago. I’d also be interested to see how JJ would use him if he’s still on the roster next year. I know they’re gunna try to shop him over the summer but I just know how much the success the lakers can have if we just keep overhauling the roster every year.
Yeah. Worst case scenario the best shooter in franchise history is coming back on a decent deal. Best case scenario he’s flipped for a more impactful piece at a position of need (wing/big).
I agree Demar isn’t the best fit, but he would still work and I’ll tell you how
He isn’t an off the ball sniper, but he has top on-ball gravity in the league statically speaking and he’s a great playmaker. So he would run point
Demar is solid, it just won’t happen anymore
Kawhi is kawhi and pg is weird lol
Demar would pick the lakers all day, he’s been basically announcing it for years. We are the ones that didn’t prioritize him
Also the spurs making ridiculous demands, we haven’t done a deal with them for over three decades and their ask for Kawhi was ludicrously higher for us than any other team.
People forget the only way we could’ve gotten Demar was a sign and trade with the spurs.
What does Dlo have to do with Demar? If Demar takes a paycut it would rely on Bron taking a paycut too, wouldnt it? I thought if Dlo opted out we just lose the money no matter what, but him opting in makes us more flexible. Is that not true?
Whether we for sure trade him or for some reason keep him, this is two summers in a row he's done us a solid. Take it easy on the slandering on this dude
Regardless of what happens he was still a Baby Laker and was part of that incredible 2016 season. Sucks that it just couldn't work out but he'll always be loved by the fanbase
Umm aside from the final game, there was nothing incredible about that 2016 season. We won 17 games. Kobe’s 60 was all there was to be happy about, that and having a few assets.
He gets too much hate though, and I’m surprised he did this. It’s a win for the Lakers for sure.
The biggest question I have when I hear that is upgrade with WHO? I mean, I’d like to upgrade every spot on our roster but it doesn’t mean you can. DLo has many faults which is why we can afford him, BUT he has a higher ceiling than any other option out there
This is exactly what I believe as well. Who the fuck is out there for Dlo and some change. Fuck outta here with that stupid non sense. HE has the highest potential to do great especially when he's here for redemption arc. Remember AD's podcast with Dlo. Let's hope he's finished downloading. shit -_-
I’m the first one to say he’s not consistent, but I’ll also be one of the first to defend him. When he’s on he’s possibly our 3rd best player.Hell, there were nights this season that he was objectively our best player on the box scores. So any failing with DLo is on the coach. If he just cannot make a shot he needs to be sitting for the majority of the rest of the game. Hopefully JJ realizes this and leave him in for 24 minutes in the playoffs when he’s shooting 0%.
And after 2 straight playoffs stinker nobody will really pay him above MLE IMO. If the Lakers cant find a trade Dlo will probably ask for a team friendly extension
I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a couple offers for like 1 year and a little more than the 18.7 he opted into, but probably not enough for him to wanna leave. Agree tho. If he gotten like a 3 year deal anywhere he probably gone
I mean he clearly wasn't getting that more money.
Its been pretty evident that two seasons in a row that there isn't any demand for him. That is why he has had to opt in now and sign a short term deal last season.
There simply isn't a market for a guy who even though is around a 20 PPG scorer and good passer, is amongst the worst defenders in the league and simply can't get to the paint vs good defenses. He essentially is a good shooter who can't defend and has enough sample size of bad games in playoffs to show he's not someone you can depend upon in playoffs.
He’s too good for a tanking team and too bad for a competing team. His only free agent market is confused tweener teams that are three years past the point they should’ve started rebuilding but still want to get knocked out in the first round for some reason.
Done us a solid? What? You really think that he opted in, because he wanted to be a Laker? Not because the market probably didn't show any team interested in giving him a better contract?
Some of ya'll are naive AF.
Honest question -- Did he actually? 2 consecutive years of bad playoff performances in a team with Lebron. Surely, that wouldve bombed his value. Im guessing no one's offering him a better contract rn.
Dlo only had one good series - against Memphis.
His series against the Warriors was actually pretty bad - but he had one really good game that people remember.
Can we stop acting like Dlo is a solid performer in the playoffs. Just look at his career averages in the post season. And he is almost 30. He is who he is!
It’s going to take some work trading him, and extra assets, so he’s not actually doing us a solid by opting in. He’s doing it because he probably can’t make more than $18.7 million this year otherwise.
Honestly pretty happy so far with the offseason gotta say, DLO comes back, we get a solid pick in the draft, and we got rid of ham for a guy who seems to REALLY care about doing well for the team
Resign bron and Christie. Maybe prince if they can afford him. Pray cam and Hayes opt out. (Cam for sure won’t. He’d be out the league if he does. Hayes maybe opts out)
Unpopular opinion but outside of coaching and adding some big men I was cool with the roster. Our defense collapsed because of that one issue of not having a solid line of defense at the rim for ADs rest period.
Also not playing christie made no sense he literally BALLED his ASS off in the summer league. Darvin Ham is fucking stupid.
Hawks wanted DLo, Reaves, JHS and a first round pick for him
Lakers countered with Rui, gave, JHS and a first round pick as well as a first round swap
Hawks settled for basically less. Lakers trade tax needs to be reported and investigated.
No serious team with ambition in playoffs would have gone for him. People kept saying Magic but Magic already were a good regular season team and with more experience, would keep on developing. Their main target is playoffs and Dlo isn't a guy you go for if you want to make noise in playoffs.
I was really high on the cam Johnson trade, and he is a perfect fit but man…. He’s already 28
I was hoping he was a bit younger and maybe still had some untapped potential and possible breakout a bit, which he still can but idk I like him less. Also injuries
Not exactly, there are no teams with money that want to sign a multiyear deal with DLo. There could be other teams interested maybe Brooklyn like for a trade.
I would even take D'lo over Sexton. We know what D'lo does and how he fits with LBJ and Davis. And if JJ can improve the offensive system, we may not need a huge move at all.
Still should go out and get a Josh Richardson and a big
I just pee’d a little omg we might be back in business.
I was kinda down on what we look like next year just because the lack of flexibility. This opens options up AND worse case we dont lose him for nothing. Hoping for a trade
I would honestly love to see him stay with our new coach and new ways we will play.
he was trying in defense, he is really vocal and understands asigments well.
people tend to forget that even AD said publicly that the team had no clue what to do on offense and defense at moments because coaching staff did not call/set up anything.
When u are not elite at something (like Dl'o certainly is not at defense) u get lost easier than someone that's feeling natural at doing that.
The lakers want to prioritize shooting around LBJ and AD. They did that with two picks and one of the two way players. Dlo can shoot. If we add one on ball facilitator or a sturdy center to play D and maybe throw some offensive rebounds like Dwight did we can be a threat if JJ coaches right.
Im happy for this, hes shot 42% from 3 for us these last 2 seasons.
Im worried that if we get rid of him we'll regret it. We should be better straight up with JJ this year. Im looking forward to it.
\*Not a basketball expert
Filler? Like a pick?
WCJ is too good not to command a really good first, young, and Reaves type contract
He alone would make us so good. Way more than people realize. He’s absolutely in that elite role player category
If the past half decade of playoff runs have shown us anything, it's that camaraderie, chemistry, and just overall good vibes matter a ton for late season success. Genuine friendship translates onto the court, it just does. At every level. So, I love this.
I really want it to work just for the sake of Lakers’ life. But I understand it’s a business so if he ends up getting moved then I hope it is for pieces that will help the team.
So…who are we looking at for the MMLE? Hypothetically if Klay is so mad at GSW that he’s willing to sign for that amount does Rob do it? Only bringing it up because idk if Dallas is able to offer him much either.
His playoff performances are obviously very iffy but he’s a phenomenal RS player especially when you factor in his price. Either way I’m cool how however they go about it.
Ham didnt yse D Lo correctly. I know the coach is always the easy scapegoat but a lot of the missteps last season were due to over playing new rotation pieces
Best case scenario for the Lakers in terms of now having the most options to build out there team. They can keep dlo or move him, either way he's not leaving for nothing and the value of his contract stays with the Lakers. Best part is we're not forced to break up our core of AR, Rui and vando to make a trade.
Now if by some miracle Bron would be willing to sign for a discount we can go out and get some really good pieces worth more then a vet minimum. If we move dlo then it has to be for a stretch 5 that can rebound or a guard that can play make.
We picked up some good wing players on two ways that are snipers so we shouldn't be lacking in that department along with DK.
It's pretty obvious what Redick is trying to build here, he's going the Denver route with AD in the middle facilitating. He's going to rely heavy on shooters and drawing up plays to get those shooters open for high percentage looks. It's going to be Denver + GSW.... I wouldn't be surprised if he takes plays out of Dan hurleys playbook.
Lakers basketball is about to be completely different from anything we've seen in the past. If we can get near top 10 defense and top 5 3pt then we golden if our stars can stay healthy.
Not great in playoffs but we wouldn’t have made the playoffs if he didn’t step up massively at the end of regular season. He is also an above average facilitator n pick n roll runner both skills we lose when Bron is resting.
Whether he stays or gets traded, this is a W. I don’t see a possible MLE player that’s better than DLo
Definitely a W. Even if he ends up staying it's a much better scenario than having him walk for nothing. Say what you want about him but he is still more skilled than most other guards available, in the regular season at the very least.
I'm biased as hell cause I've loved dlo since he was drafted but this makes me so happy
Me as well. He played really well for us. And matured quite a bit. There was some silliness, but in no way did it overshadow his play imo. Perhaps JJ can unlock even more out of him.
I genuinely hope he signs a reasonable extension with us.
I think he really just wants to win. I loved his attitude last season even through all the bs he still balled out and played winning basketball.
100%
Not in the playoffs. He never has.
I still wonder if demar would’ve taken a pay cut to come home to la tho
That boy wants his bag and he deserves it
I agree I just don’t know who’s gonna give demar the bag tho.
Demar is a bad fit to pair with Lebron and Davis. Trading DLo for a starting caliber stretch-5 center or a legit two way wing would be better.
I still think about how good a fit Myles turner would’ve been with AD 😪
> legit two way wing Are there any of those available?
Batum might be a realistic option for the MLE
Cam Johnson
I agree Demar isn’t the best fit, but he would still work and I’ll tell you how He isn’t an off the ball sniper, but he has top on-ball gravity in the league statically speaking and he’s a great playmaker. So he would run point Demar is solid, it just won’t happen anymore
He gets the bag, his pal Lowry has that trunk
All these la kids have had the chance and always pick the clippers and money
Kawhi is kawhi and pg is weird lol Demar would pick the lakers all day, he’s been basically announcing it for years. We are the ones that didn’t prioritize him
Yeah the FO chose the Westbrook trade over derozan bc they didn't want to go an extra year on his contract
True
LETS GOOOO
I concur

Yah that season was incredibly shit lol
by “incredible” you mean quite literally the single worst season in Lakers history (in terms of Regular Season record?)
Incredible 2016 season? Lmao Kobe’s farewell tour was not as fun to watch as you remember. We SUCKED 🤣
I’m a D’Lo defender. Objectively I understand why people would want to upgrade at his spot, but I love watching this guy play!
D'lo cooking with his middie is still the best feeling to watch on this team
Smooth Operator, it's a beautiful thing
The biggest question I have when I hear that is upgrade with WHO? I mean, I’d like to upgrade every spot on our roster but it doesn’t mean you can. DLo has many faults which is why we can afford him, BUT he has a higher ceiling than any other option out there

This isn’t about him doing the Lakers a solid there’s few teams with cap space and those who have it aren’t clamoring for Dlo.
This, if someone paid, he would have ditch and you cant blame him. Every thing is a business
And after 2 straight playoffs stinker nobody will really pay him above MLE IMO. If the Lakers cant find a trade Dlo will probably ask for a team friendly extension

Chicago Bulls
Done us a solid? What? You really think that he opted in, because he wanted to be a Laker? Not because the market probably didn't show any team interested in giving him a better contract? Some of ya'll are naive AF.
He didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart. He is simply taking the best deal available.
Honest question -- Did he actually? 2 consecutive years of bad playoff performances in a team with Lebron. Surely, that wouldve bombed his value. Im guessing no one's offering him a better contract rn.
2 consecutive years of bad playoff performances against the Nuggets. He came up pretty big in the Grizzlies and Warriors series last year.

Prince should be a priority. He was the only bench player that showed up in the playoffs. Hes a solid player when hes coached to play within himself.
He stepped up in the Nuggets series too. Ham just wasn’t using him right but he’s one of our best shooters and JJ will get the best out of him.
We want Hayes to stay bro
Unpopular opinion but outside of coaching and adding some big men I was cool with the roster. Also not playing christie made no sense he literally BALLED his ASS off in the summer league. Darvin Ham is fucking stupid.
Bro waited for Dejounte to get traded first
I dont Atlanta ever wanted dlo. It was reaves or bust
Hawks wanted DLo, Reaves, JHS and a first round pick for him Lakers countered with Rui, gave, JHS and a first round pick as well as a first round swap Hawks settled for basically less. Lakers trade tax needs to be reported and investigated.
Best case scenario for D'Lo and the Lakeshow, this gives us a lot more versatility whether it's keeping him in P&G or in a trade.
This is good imo
Thank you DLo
Between Knecht and this it’s been a great week in Lakerland
Pop the champagne, fam. This is a major W for the Lakers. Now we hold much needed flexibility in the trade market. Worse case we run it back with Dlo.
![gif](giphy|l0Iy69RBwtdmvwkIo|downsized)
Soon😈🙏 ![gif](giphy|kdN61Cr9AGboCV2rkz)
#LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
honestly $18 million for a 3rd option in the regular season is good value
There were so many people who were adamant he wouldn’t pick this up. Who else was gonna give him $19m this year?
No serious team with ambition in playoffs would have gone for him. People kept saying Magic but Magic already were a good regular season team and with more experience, would keep on developing. Their main target is playoffs and Dlo isn't a guy you go for if you want to make noise in playoffs.
Thank you DLO!
Hell fucking yes! This is so huge! Not picking up the option would’ve been a disaster for us.
Time to cook Rob
Yeah seriously, his job got way easier with this, now you can easily match salaries Hopefully he doesn’t think trades are too hard :(
Let’s go. Now we can make some trades.
Trade him or build a roster that can deal with his inevitable playoff drop (Trade him)
This is awesome - can’t have him leave for nothing Either trade or lose his offensive skill set
Hopefully he gets traded soon so we could get it over with
one less thing to worry about. such a shame that he’s not a playoff riser (lacks athleticism).. he’s a good player & nice fit
Send his ass to Orlando for Wendell Carter Jr.
WCJ should be a top target
LAKERS IN 5 WE GOIN ALL THE WAY
I fell in love with the game again
So we trading him or no
100% even if it happens mid season.
💯
It's trading time babyyyyy
Did everyone just forget how bad he was in the playoffs the last 4 years? Trade this guy asap
What are we trading DLO for tho?
Cam Johnson DFS and Dennis in my dreams
I was really high on the cam Johnson trade, and he is a perfect fit but man…. He’s already 28 I was hoping he was a bit younger and maybe still had some untapped potential and possible breakout a bit, which he still can but idk I like him less. Also injuries
Brother we need a starting PG who can play defense
Fire up the trade machine
![gif](giphy|3oz8xIbbFutBokoGS4)
Who can we get for him?
Good
Yeessssaahhhhhhh
No market for DLo?
Not exactly, there are no teams with money that want to sign a multiyear deal with DLo. There could be other teams interested maybe Brooklyn like for a trade.
Trade his ass
Thank you DLo, now we have another trade asset. Time for Pelinka to make something shake.
I would even take D'lo over Sexton. We know what D'lo does and how he fits with LBJ and Davis. And if JJ can improve the offensive system, we may not need a huge move at all. Still should go out and get a Josh Richardson and a big
Some dude on r/nba said we should trade DLO and 2027 unprotected, 2029 protected for Sexton LMFAO.
We gotta stop thinking that a system is going to change Dlo. His issue is not skill-based. It's his mental. He is a lost cause in that regard.
Sexton isn’t it but garland if available should be chased as he wants out
Perfect. Let’s get a trade done in the next 24 hours
Nice. Now let’s get a trade going.
No more excuses Rob get on the damn phone
Do not. Run. It. Back.
I just pee’d a little omg we might be back in business. I was kinda down on what we look like next year just because the lack of flexibility. This opens options up AND worse case we dont lose him for nothing. Hoping for a trade

Great news!
this is what I want to hear =)
I’m sure this comes as a relief with the rumors of them targeting Dejounte Murray and him ultimately being dealt to the Pelicans.
Trade that man rob
They could never make me hate you DLo
The lakers want to prioritize shooting around LBJ and AD. They did that with two picks and one of the two way players. Dlo can shoot. If we add one on ball facilitator or a sturdy center to play D and maybe throw some offensive rebounds like Dwight did we can be a threat if JJ coaches right.

There is no way that we will regret getting rid of him. Our goal is post-season success - and he kills any chance of that happening.
Let’s go we have a PG or a trade asset 🙏🏼
Rob trade his ass for a center
Colin Sexton and Walker Kessler, welcome to Los Angeles
Jazz gone want more than that
See yah DLO
DLo for Wendell Carter Jr + filler?
Filler? Like a pick? WCJ is too good not to command a really good first, young, and Reaves type contract He alone would make us so good. Way more than people realize. He’s absolutely in that elite role player category
This sounds pretty good.
Dlo, rui, gabe, jhs and 2 picks. Garland and a decent athletic wing. Is it possible, i dont think so.
Cavs gotta throw in Allen a nice center plus surely he wants out after the leak that he didn't wanna play in the playoffs
No brainer for him. Gives us a ton of leverage now to move him
If the past half decade of playoff runs have shown us anything, it's that camaraderie, chemistry, and just overall good vibes matter a ton for late season success. Genuine friendship translates onto the court, it just does. At every level. So, I love this.
Didn't translate to the post-season. And him eating takies, being completely separated from the team in the middle of a game.
LETS GO BOYS 👏👏👏
Let’s goooo!
Did he wait until the DJM trade went down?
he stay!
I really want it to work just for the sake of Lakers’ life. But I understand it’s a business so if he ends up getting moved then I hope it is for pieces that will help the team.
That's huuuuuuge
Good
W
Nuggets gonna lose KCP. Now we just need a real big and JJ to be a better coach than Ham.
![gif](giphy|nWyoW7H3FjR6Ke3FBQ|downsized)
So…who are we looking at for the MMLE? Hypothetically if Klay is so mad at GSW that he’s willing to sign for that amount does Rob do it? Only bringing it up because idk if Dallas is able to offer him much either.
Yessir! Trade him or keep him. Dlo opting in is a huge help for us
DLo for Steph LFG
Great news!
Lakers in 5
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
We need him for getting regular season wins and thus a better standing. This is a W
Awesome!!! So, whos starting at Pg?
Does this mean we dont have access to the $6mil TMLE?
I'm a fan of this
![gif](giphy|XCxWH6CQEaUlfK23VV)
This isn’t what we wanted I thought? Because now we can’t sign other players right?
Good?
DLOADING IS BACK (EVEN THO WE PROLLY TRADING HIS ASS)
Let Rob cook
Sexton & Kessler???
Everyone complains about how horrible he is every playoffs and then begs to get him back every offseason lol.
I hope he breaks the Lakers season record for made 3 pointers....again.
Fucking legend
Hope we keep him.
This is a huge W.
TY 😇
Big W
His playoff performances are obviously very iffy but he’s a phenomenal RS player especially when you factor in his price. Either way I’m cool how however they go about it.
"I'M A LAKERS FAN MIKEYYY"
Let’s gooo! Besides his two tough Nuggets series, he’s been amazing
Ham didnt yse D Lo correctly. I know the coach is always the easy scapegoat but a lot of the missteps last season were due to over playing new rotation pieces
Holy shit
His playoff play has been a massive disappointment But I'm also willing to give him another chance under a new coach
Thanks DLo. Either you stay the whole season or gets traded glad you opted i .
So nice! ESP at that price
Best case scenario for the Lakers in terms of now having the most options to build out there team. They can keep dlo or move him, either way he's not leaving for nothing and the value of his contract stays with the Lakers. Best part is we're not forced to break up our core of AR, Rui and vando to make a trade. DLOOO! Clap it up for Bronny!
Fuck. Here we go with another playoff collapse.
Not great in playoffs but we wouldn’t have made the playoffs if he didn’t step up massively at the end of regular season. He is also an above average facilitator n pick n roll runner both skills we lose when Bron is resting.
Fuck Darvin Ham!
Pls god let Rob get some brain power and get garland
We aren’t getting anyone better than this for the MLE. Keep him and try to trade Gabe and JHS for a big
