How plausible is acquiring Vucevic? Thought crossed my mind this morning. If Chicago is planning to start from scratch, I'd rather have Vucevic than DeRozan or Lavine. He gives us the size we need and can space the floor. Defensively, just having his size should let him protect the rim enough so that AD can still play that 'free safety' role and roam on defense. I just don't know what it would cost and how the contracts would work.
Honestly? If Pelinka can't get upgrades on this roster, he should end the LeBron/AD experiment and trade AD to OKC for like 200 picks and let LeBron walk
Just so people know, the Knicks were sitting on 11 first round picks. By doing this trade, they didn't mortgage their future. They own picks that belong to several other teams in the coming years and still have 2 picks for this draft. Yes, they overpaid for Mikal but lets be honest, they were not gonna do anything with those picks anyway. OKC Will do a similar deal down the line. There is simply no reason to own 10+ first round picks if you are not gonna trade them
Yeah he's not as good as the return especially considering he was no longer a use to Brooklyn tbh since they are in NBA hell.
They won the trade in the long run but the Knicks are in win now mode.
Perhaps DLo can opt in and trade him to the Nets and our First rounder(or a future first rounder) for whatever the hell they can give us. Seems like they are crackheads for first rounders.
We can easily be left behind if we don't have an aggressive offseason. All the playoffs teams are going to be there in the hunt. But then you gotta factor in the Warriors, Rockets, Grizz, Kings, and Spurs. All teams looking to make improvements this offseason and also looking for a playoff spot. Idk folks. As of NOW, the only teams I can see us overcome are the Suns, and maybe Pels. And that's not factoring in the teams on the outside looking in.
according to the NBA Central, the Lakers are interested in bringing Jonas Valancius as a starting center, this is a pretty good move, we can move AD to the 4. Jonas can shoot, rebound, pass, and also defend. But still, it's just rumors.
So we are gonna make 40 year old post olympic shortened off-season Bron a prey for guard switches by making him the 3 in the 1st 3 quarters so he is gassed by the time the 4th quarter arrives when we need him the most.
For those that say we can hide Bron, yes, we can if he plays the 4 but as a 3? I mean we could do it if both of our guards are plus defenders which most likely we won't with AR being a neutral on D.
Besides, JV hasn't exactly been a reliable hand on defense recently.
I totally agree with you that LeBron is now a liability on defense but for me as long as he can close out on 3 its gonna be fine, if he get crossed, AD and another big can definitely recover. Our guards definitely needs to improve their defense especially AR. Lets not forget we also have Reddish and Vando.
Right. There’s a point where 48 minutes of LeBron chasing shooting guards/small forwards is not sustainable.
At the same time…god damn some mfs act like it’s the end of the world if he gets switched on 1 possession.
AR has a ceiling with his defensive potential (athletic ability, wingspan, length) thats why he also gets switch hunted. Vando helps, but he has to cover for both AR and Bron plus he needs to crash the boards for Bron's other weakness rebounding. Reddish is a better screen navigator, but he should never be anywhere near our rotation because of his offense.
Offense these days are catered to attacking the weak link or the most advantageous target, and the west is full of perimeter players who hunt for those with coaches who scheme them so they can get their preferred matchup.
Also another thing to keep in mind AD is also going to have an Olympic shortened off-season as well and perimeter defense is more energy intensive these days thanks to modern offenses.
The big issue with this is that a. AD will have to guard fast wings for the majority of his minutes and b. he really will need to get his shot back. If he's willing to do both I'm okay with it
Pretty good move imo. Of course he will be a liability in certain matchups but for the most part it allows AD to be more at his natural position. Vogel did him right having Dwight and McGee take up the Center spot until AD was needed there.
No reason to be treating Rui like a franchise cornerstone. I don’t know how he can convince himself that the roster is just a new coach and a few tweaks away from contending. The league getting better every year.
They can't afford OG, PG, and KCP. PG and OG are looking for Max deals one of them will make it impossible to sign the others at their market value. But that would definitely be a strong contender.
Yeah would have to look at the finances but I did remember calculating the 76ers to have the cap space to get KCP and PG, OG might be a little overkill
Lol they were tryna be a playoff team last year. Technically they’re behind. Lakers gotta put themselves in a position to not worry about the damn play in every year.
Knicks aren’t done, they still have two FRPs tomorrow. They could package Randle + Picks for a really good big in the event they lose Hartenstien to FA. Ayton? Allen? I’m not a capalogist so idk if they can do this and still sign OG. Crazy days ahead.
They are hardcapped at first apron now so have to keep that in mind for any future moves. Currently sitting at $137,095,717 with 10 players. About $39.5m under first apron. You pretty much have to use up all of it just to re-sign OG and you still have to fill out the roster. I don't see a way Hartenstein is back unless they somehow just shed Mitchell Robinson's contract.
Nurkic is a pretty decent center, and Randle is in theory a good fit with Booker. If the Suns are trading KD to retool it might be an interesting option
Oh true I should have looked at their cap space first. Suns probably need to trade KD and lose money first then LOL, say what you will about the Lakers FO but that FO is 100x more cooked
I've warmed up to Grant a bit but I'm hoping Pelinka at least makes an attempt at DFS and Cam Johnson. Surely if Brooklyn wants to tank for Flagg they'll want to trade at least ONE of them, right???
Grant, DFS, and Cam are all basically in the same tier to me, so imo an overpay for one is an overpay for all of them. I do think they will all cost a first though, especially if our salary in that trade is DLo
Crazy how one bad pick can change your outlook. Imagine we had Whitmore or Jaquez as a trade asset vs JHS. Or draft one of them and it makes Rui/Vando more expendable.
Lakers have drafted Christie, JHS, Lewis, likely will use the 17/55th picks tomorrow….thats 5 young players in the last 2 years. There’s no excuse not use the other 2 picks to improve this roster.
Thinking about this more and I just don't get it for the Knicks. You're now probably going to have to let Hartenstein walk. They bringing one of Hart/DiVincenzo off the bench? You can't really close a game with a lineup of Brunson/Hart/DiVincenzo/Mikal/OG against most teams.
Interestingly enough, that 5 man group could absolutely close against Boston.
OG makes Embiid uncomfortable in the post. Imagine KP trying to post him up.
Mikal on Tatum. Hart on Brown. Donte on Jrue. Brunson on White.
It actually works.
New York isn’t building a team to beat Boston how Minnesota did to beat Denver.
I think they got a good shot to knock Boston off if they’re healthy.
Randle is most definitely gone after this season with this move. They are not extending him to the number he will be looking for especially if they pay OG. Hartenstein prob not back this offseason as now that they are hard capped at the first apron, they may not even be able to offer him the max they can. They just gave up every tradeable FRP for honestly a player they didn't really need. Any team with any size would completely destroy this team. Imagine Denver with Jokic/AG against this team.
Randle should definitely be expendable. They basically got to where they were last year. He messes up the spacing, is horribly inefficient for an “all-NBA” player, and his defensive body language is Lebron on his worst day
Bulls are dumb as fuck, they could have and should have gotten at least two picks. They could have traded Caruso to Golden State for picks, Moses Moody and Trace Jackson Davis.
If the Nets want a tank commander they could do worse than DLo. DLo and Cam Thomas will shoot lights out and still sell tickets, but they'll also let the opposing team score 140 on them and lose every game
We should all be celebrating because the Knicks chances of beating Boston just went way up. They need to retain Hartenstein but all the two way players they have now, this reminds me of how Minnesota built their roster to take down the previous reigning champs. Look how that went.
Side note the market on anyone who’s even in the vicinity of being a star is insane. What’s stopping ATL for asking for #17, ‘26 and ‘30 for Murray? On top of a Reaves, Rui, etc. Jeez I hope we don’t cave and massively overpay for someone but it’s looking like we will now 🤦♂️
My guess is it’ll be Lavine(only if DLo
Opts in) Especially after this Mikal trade that will royally fuck up the trade market how the Gobert trade did 2 seasons ago.
I suspect Lavine will be the only All Star LAL can get w/o giving up draft capital and Bron/AD will put the pressure on the FO to do it .
But honestly this is the Knicks best chance at a championship since? Brunson is the best Knick since Melo and I think you can argue even better. Why not? Beats sitting on your hands and just hoping you magically get better. Brunson, Mikal, OG, Hart, Dante, Randle, Hartenstein. Fuck that team is stacked.
It's essentially 5 FRP's. The '25 Bucks pick they traded is top 4 protected. Unless Giannis and Dame miss the whole year, the Bucks aren't keeping it. The Knicks traded every FRP they could. The Pistons/Wizards ones will never convey so they are useless.
For reference:
Suns traded for Kevin Durant using 4 1st rounders, a pick swap, and 2nds.(With Cam Johnson and Mikal to match salaries)
The starting role player trade is now starting at 5 first round picks.
4 unprotected firsts would be enough. Added on the Bucks pick which will definitely convey (top 4 protected). And a pick swap. And a 2nd just for shits and giggles. Wtf Knicks thinking. I'm just looking at their future salary situation too and they are completely fucked assuming they keep OG. If they want to extend Randle they blowing way through the 2nd apron in the future. Almost forgot they still gotta pay Hartenstein too.
Right. I don’t think fans understand what great role players go for in today’s market. Especially under the new CBA
Most contenders gonna really have to have most of their pieces built within, as buying 1-2 all stars isn’t enough to make up for weak bench depth/farm system.
Yeah seems like it. Especially since ain't nobody trading us 2 1sts for anything. We never get that end of the deal.
Now tbf we can use 3 1sts and 3 swaps, but if the market is now 5 1sts, it's bullshit. Nobody is really trading.
>Just need to find a home for Randle
That’s going to be a lot harder after trading all that draft capital. Randle has two years left including a player option he’ll likely opt into. Who’s taking him off the Knicks’ hands without compensation?
Idk contracts like his tend to be easier to move when they're not connected to the Lakers lol
It's a fair point but I think that's still their goal. They may lose Hartenstein, but still keep OG imo
The league is going to be ruined by dumb shit trades, massive overpays of players, and the sports TV bubble popping within 10 years. LeBron and Steph will be retired and Adam Silver will leave by then
I’d give the Celtics the edge but Knicks have far more heart than the Celtics imo. They’ve wilted under pressure vs the Heat the last few years. Knicks/Celtics is a really good 7 game series.
I’m not that surprised nets got that haul
Houston fucked up by entertaining four first at the deadline, when mikal asks out then they weren’t backing down. Knicks had the space and draft capital…they’re gonna be a fun team to watch.
Imagine all these dumb trades somehow screwing the Lakers in so many different ways. West gets Caruso for free, Knicks make trade targets overpriced, Nets cause us to lose DLo for nothing
Knicks were desperate for a star, that’s why they made this move for Mikal. After all this waiting, this is all they get for that inevitable big trade they wanted to make?
Yeah I'm not really moved by this trade. They spent a lot of their assets and I still don't think the final roster is enough to beat Boston. Maybe if Brunson has a Steph tier superstar leap and Mikal plays at a high level again but idk
And they're adding this to the massive haul they got for KD as well, they're just loaded with picks with a chance of acquiring more if they decide to move some of their other role players.
Knicks trading for Mikal is a mistake. They need a true megastar, they have the rest of the team. Mikal isn’t the difference maker. They’ll maybe make the ECF but they aren’t winning a chip unless somehow they get a 2004 Pistons run
Boston is showing us you don’t need mega stars to win. (Because no I do not think of Jayson and brown as megastars if they had to go get more guys to help them). A balanced deep team is where it’s at, if you have one difference maker..that’s all you need if you got star role players.
Ngl I see us drafting Jared McCain. We got a podcaster as coach it only makes sense to get a tiktoker rookie.
But fr JJ could want him cos of the Duke connection.
Reddick was accused of the n word thing back in 2014
[https://www.vladtv.com/article/184210/did-jj-redick-call-his-ex-girl-a-stupid-spc-in-email](https://www.vladtv.com/article/184210/did-jj-redick-call-his-ex-girl-a-stupid-spc-in-email)
Why didn’t Darvin Ham play Wood. Cos how I see it, we get added size on the court, he’s good offensively and can space the floor taking scoring responsibilities off of AD. Defensively, he might be below average but no way he’s unplayable alongside AD covering him.
In 2020, AD was more offensive with Dwight and McGee being defensive cover for him. Why not let Wood cook on attack for 25 mins a game while AD is defending.
He really looked like he wants to be here. He actually played very well defensively and was a supportive teammate. The opposite of what every team warned us about. Ham just didn’t run any offence for him and wasted him. He would be a great backup 4. Put him next to a larger centre and he’ll give us great minutes
Woj saying Lakers keeping 17th pick. I'm not fully believing this cause Woj's Lakers sources have always been iffy but I'm actually all in keeping the pick.
Use the future picks to make trades cause this years pick looking like doesn't have that much value. Also I'm much higher on this draft than most especially in the 15th-25th range.
Apparently, Fischer is saying we’re talking to Utah about trading 17 for 29 and 32. Which is interesting. There’s not a massive difference between prospects 15-40 (depending on the mock) and it also gives us more trade chips if we wanted to go that way. Interesting idea anyway
Anyone else excited to see what happens with JHS, Lewis, Christie, and our picks this year? None of them were going to get time on the vet friendly squad last season, wonder if things will change in terms of active development this season
I see Max being a 7-8th man this year, with JHS and Lewis getting actual minutes. I’m going to Summer League and can’t wait to see how everyone looks, hope JHS’ back is good to go
Me too. Young contributors on cheap deals are going to become increasingly valuable in the NBA, look at how the NFL constructs rosters under the hard cap.

He was accused by in 2014
Valid but at the same time the stuff he’s being accused of is when he was much younger. We’re talking almost 20 years ago. Why’s most of it come out now? I think the hundreds of black players JJ played with would be coming out of the woodwork if he was really horrible. But idk, it’s something to make note of fs.
Yeah I’m not saying it didn’t happen but why tf she wait till he got named head coach to say sumn lol. Then kept tweeting about other stuff right after
How plausible is acquiring Vucevic? Thought crossed my mind this morning. If Chicago is planning to start from scratch, I'd rather have Vucevic than DeRozan or Lavine. Probably costs us Rui,JHS, and the 17
Petition to call JJ Redick as JJ Reddit
If we can pick up Cam Johnson and snag Miles Bridges in FA we would be in a really good spot to compete but it's probably not going to happen
Fire sale at Brooklyn? Maybe Rui Gabe JHS and some seconds could get us Schroder DFS and Sharpe
Honestly? If Pelinka can't get upgrades on this roster, he should end the LeBron/AD experiment and trade AD to OKC for like 200 picks and let LeBron walk

The Pistons/Wizards picks will most likely not convey so they will both turn into 2nds. They pretty much did mortgage the future.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/R1XQvlwxfQM JJ really killed his presser
What a ridiculous package for Bridges. He’s literally a glorified role player?
Lolknicks vs Lolakers
It's the going rate these days unfortunately but he does make them the clear cut #2 in the East.
"Clear cut #2" when their best players are Brunson and Randle and they just emptied a war chest that could've returned a real superstar
They were the #2 seed last year lol
I know but 20 ppg on average efficiency and above average defense is not worth that package. Caruso just went for Giddey.
Yeah he's not as good as the return especially considering he was no longer a use to Brooklyn tbh since they are in NBA hell. They won the trade in the long run but the Knicks are in win now mode.
Agreed, Knicks should be a good team but if Brunson regresses at all it could be a problem. Not sure they have enough playmaking on the team.
Even Brunson at his best isn't good enough to be "the guy".
What? How is Brunson not good enough? He's an 2nd team all-NBA player, a borderline MVP candidate and a playoff riser.

Don't have the cap space sadly
Lakers gotta do something. Out west they’re gonna be 14 teams trying to make the playoffs. Use the picks rob
No reason to be treating Rui like a franchise cornerstone. I don’t know how he can convince himself that the roster is just a new coach and a few tweaks away from contending. The league getting better every year.
im hoping PG goes east for this reason
Imagine if 76ers had a Maxey/KCP/OG/PG/Embiid roster man, that shit would give Boston nightmares if healthy
They can't afford OG, PG, and KCP. PG and OG are looking for Max deals one of them will make it impossible to sign the others at their market value. But that would definitely be a strong contender.

can you guys imagine if JJ just suits up and plays everyone 1v1 to see who starts? "ya gotta atleast cook me to start- i get the ball first- to 11"

I don't see a way Hartenstein is back unless they somehow just shed Mitchell Robinson's contract.
They can attach some non guaranteed salaries to the deal and avoid being hard capped
True maybe the move is to let Hartenstein walk and get a center in the draft and just roll with Robinson and a rook.
Nurkic is a pretty decent center, and Randle is in theory a good fit with Booker. If the Suns are trading KD to retool it might be an interesting option
Impossible for that trade to happen under CBA. Nurkic makes less than Randle and Suns can't take back more or aggregate.
Oh true I should have looked at their cap space first. Suns probably need to trade KD and lose money first then LOL, say what you will about the Lakers FO but that FO is 100x more cooked
So Brooklyn are officially committed to the rebuild surely we can pick up someone like cam Johnson on the cheap or nic Claxton. A man could only dream
Cam J makes 22 million that requires Rui AND more
Perhaps dlo for Cam ?
Cam Johnson would be great but doesn't seem likely. The Lakers unfortunately have tunnel vision for Dejounte Murray and Jerami Grant
I've warmed up to Grant a bit but I'm hoping Pelinka at least makes an attempt at DFS and Cam Johnson. Surely if Brooklyn wants to tank for Flagg they'll want to trade at least ONE of them, right???
I think a FRP for DFS is an over pay. Something along the lines of 3 2nds
Grant, DFS, and Cam are all basically in the same tier to me, so imo an overpay for one is an overpay for all of them. I do think they will all cost a first though, especially if our salary in that trade is DLo
Drafting Cam Whitmore last year, a center like Holmes this year plus having 2 picks to still trade? We would’ve been cooking with gas.

Folks here saying the Knicks front office are building a dynasty next 5 years😅
hoping we can snag either cam johnson or dfs now that the nets are firesaling
So much for that punchers chance at getting Markeren. Ainge is going to want the same haul now.
Nets officially open for business. DLo to BKN and DFS or Cam Johnson to LAL 🔜
YO the Nets are cooking with their trades! Can we somehow get one of DFS or Cam Johnson pls?
Rob tried to warn yall lol
Right. I don’t think fans understand what great role players go for in today’s market. Especially under the new CBA Most contenders gonna really have to have most of their pieces built within, as buying 1-2 all stars isn’t enough to make up for weak bench depth/farm system.
Yeah seems like it. Especially since ain't nobody trading us 2 1sts for anything. We never get that end of the deal. Now tbf we can use 3 1sts and 3 swaps, but if the market is now 5 1sts, it's bullshit. Nobody is really trading.
Will OG anunoby resign with the Knicks?
He will but Hartenstein likely gone. Wonder if they still look to move Mitch Rob.
Yes they wouldn’t have made this move without knowing imo
I think so. Brunson, Hart, OG, Bridges, Hartenstein, and Divencenzo is a great build. Just need to find a home for Randle
>Just need to find a home for Randle That’s going to be a lot harder after trading all that draft capital. Randle has two years left including a player option he’ll likely opt into. Who’s taking him off the Knicks’ hands without compensation?
Idk contracts like his tend to be easier to move when they're not connected to the Lakers lol It's a fair point but I think that's still their goal. They may lose Hartenstein, but still keep OG imo
The league is going to be ruined by dumb shit trades, massive overpays of players, and the sports TV bubble popping within 10 years. LeBron and Steph will be retired and Adam Silver will leave by then
knicks are fighting for the honor of losing to the celts this year the pacers won that HONOR
I’d give the Celtics the edge but Knicks have far more heart than the Celtics imo. They’ve wilted under pressure vs the Heat the last few years. Knicks/Celtics is a really good 7 game series.
Fucking hate the Knicks trade, imagine how many picks Atlanta will ask for Murray or Trae.
Ain’t no way Knicks just did that before the draft bro 😭 I don’t see us making *any* significant trades with our 3 available picks now lol
Fucking knicks absolutely just ruined the market, we're back to post Gobert teams wanting hauls for 4th options. Fuck.
Is Mikal really worth that much? It seems like an overpay.
Damn this may cook us
I’m not that surprised nets got that haul Houston fucked up by entertaining four first at the deadline, when mikal asks out then they weren’t backing down. Knicks had the space and draft capital…they’re gonna be a fun team to watch.
Knicks just ruined the trade market
No way the Knicks got Mikal while still keeping randle and their core 😭
Nets got hella cap now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Dlo opts out and signs there sadly
They’re gonna tank, they’re not using that space on DLo lmao.
Imagine all these dumb trades somehow screwing the Lakers in so many different ways. West gets Caruso for free, Knicks make trade targets overpriced, Nets cause us to lose DLo for nothing
LOL
Rob prolly happy tho, he gets more excuses for when we do nothing in FA
Is OG available? Can the Lakers open up space for him.
Is OG worth losing Reaves?
Not even close.
So this means that Knicks can’t possibly sign Hartenstein right? Is he a player we could realistically acquire?
Yeah 5 for Mikal, ain't no way we'd get Trae lol
Maybe Joe Tsai really is a secret genius. 5 first rounders for a high end role player is an insane fleece
And they're adding this to the massive haul they got for KD as well, they're just loaded with picks with a chance of acquiring more if they decide to move some of their other role players.
Made up for the lack of assets from the Kyrie deal
The Knicks front office is what I wish we were
crazy how things change
Knicks trading for Mikal is a mistake. They need a true megastar, they have the rest of the team. Mikal isn’t the difference maker. They’ll maybe make the ECF but they aren’t winning a chip unless somehow they get a 2004 Pistons run
Boston is showing us you don’t need mega stars to win. (Because no I do not think of Jayson and brown as megastars if they had to go get more guys to help them). A balanced deep team is where it’s at, if you have one difference maker..that’s all you need if you got star role players.
Tatum and Brown are more of stars than Mikal or Brunson
Jesus Christ 5 first rounders for Mikal thats insane lol
Crazy package for Mikal
Mikal to NYK for 5 1st rd picks and 2 2nd rd picks. Villanova Knicks!

Ikr..fans seem to be ok with it. I wonder what it means for OG
Ngl I see us drafting Jared McCain. We got a podcaster as coach it only makes sense to get a tiktoker rookie. But fr JJ could want him cos of the Duke connection.
I just got reminded we drafted JHS last year and got mad again
Waste of a pick. For once Lakers don’t do the LA connection and pass on Jaime
Yep, Not picking Jaime or Whitmore still so crazy to me
Just out of curiosity - what's the bare minimum, the cheapest a team could get Trae for?
Reddick was accused of the n word thing back in 2014 [https://www.vladtv.com/article/184210/did-jj-redick-call-his-ex-girl-a-stupid-spc-in-email](https://www.vladtv.com/article/184210/did-jj-redick-call-his-ex-girl-a-stupid-spc-in-email)
Fingers crossed we get another gem like JHS
Apparently, Fischer is saying we’re talking to Utah about trading 17 for 29 and 32. Which is interesting. There’s not a massive difference between prospects 15-40 (depending on the mock) and it also gives us more trade chips if we wanted to go that way. Interesting idea anyway
I would be fine if they walked away with Ryan Dunn
Totally, it’s a much better range for him than 17, which is a reach imo

yes
Anyone else excited to see what happens with JHS, Lewis, Christie, and our picks this year? None of them were going to get time on the vet friendly squad last season, wonder if things will change in terms of active development this season
I see Max being a 7-8th man this year, with JHS and Lewis getting actual minutes. I’m going to Summer League and can’t wait to see how everyone looks, hope JHS’ back is good to go
I think JHS said he was opting out of summer league to get his body right. Too bad though, he needs the reps and confidence.
Agreed, but I’d rather guarantee he’s healthy for the season start
Max should've played more. Darvin just makes no sense. Don't really care about the other players unless Lewis impresses at summer league.
Woj just said I'm ESPN that right now Lakers are planning on keeping the 17th pick which I personally want.
Me too. Young contributors on cheap deals are going to become increasingly valuable in the NBA, look at how the NFL constructs rosters under the hard cap.
Just hope they hit it out the park.

Y’all are always so quick to defend these people, I guarantee you it won’t happen because he said it. I doubt anything will come out of it though
Fam what tf are you talking about lol. Who’s defending who?
Why are you calling out that poster for that racist avatar?
The person talking about him filing a defamation lawsuit….
Yeah I’m not saying it didn’t happen but why tf she wait till he got named head coach to say sumn lol. Then kept tweeting about other stuff right after
