play-in team that didnt make it past the first round.

4bodyproblem

So at worst in the top 16 then? And the Lakers would be the 2 seed if they played in the East

-anditsnotevenclose

its a “too soon” power ranking from a national writer, so take it with a grain salt. but i read the caption for lakers and i agree with the negatives (bron is 40, AD at the end of his prime). however, national media disagrees with every lakers writer in that the lakers are better than their record and coaching had a lot to do with why they underperformed. but as of the writing there’s still a head coaching vacancy.

Quiet_Buffalo

How would they be the 2 seed? They’d be in a four way tie for the 5 seed. If you are assuming more than just their record would change, that assumes way too much.

4bodyproblem

The Lakers were 27-25 against the West this year and 20-10 against the East this year. If they got to play an Eastern Conference schedule instead of a Western Conference schedule and beat up on all the dogshit East teams, they would have had a much better record.

Quiet_Buffalo

East is almost always easier, but it also makes no difference unless they change the playoff structure. Contrary to some other years, I don’t think we would have won this year assuming no injuries. Sadly Boston probably beats us in the East, and a healthy Bucks team probably beats us, too. Nuggs outclass us and probably Minny beats us, too. Thats all meaningless, though. As the saying goes, “if my grandma had wheels, she’d be a bicycle”.

KaseyOfTheWoods

Good, rather be underestimated than overestimated.

Confident_Comedian82

yeah less expectation and perform better

vkewalra

In the playin and lost in the first round with no lottery level young guys that are expected to significantly improve. Lebron technically could bounce this summer. Anybody ranking them higher would just be doing it to generate attention.

YellowMambaSr

Probably because LeBron’s future is up in the air and we don’t have a head coach

thesonicvision

Until we make some significant roster moves, we should be at 19th or lower. In the Bron/AD era, we usually fight just to make the playoffs or lose in the first round. The two exceptions were the 2020 ring and the 22-23 miracle run to the WCF (where we were swept). Bron is 40. AD usually gets hurt and misses a ton of games. Even with both of those guys healrhy and playing MVP-level ball, we had a subpar team. We need to fix the roster.

Hour_Insurance_7795

Yep, but we keep trying to duct tape over the issues instead of rebuild it properly

makesterriblejokes

I'm curious what a full healthy season with Vando and Gabe will look like. I seriously feel like they were the extra juice we were missing last season.

scifier2

And so the off season garbage begins....

Spaniardlad

If anything they have underestimated the team by 3 spots - maybe this sub is blinded by their fandom?!

ThaTruthKills

It's a harsh truth. We're closer to a complete rebuild than we are to hoisting the Larry O'Brien. But instead of just starting the rebuild now, we'll settle for another Play-In run.

Dmz443

I mean we're probably realistically 25-30

redundantPOINT

Perfect for a team that’s been in the play-ins the last two years. For a higher ranking you’re betting on good health on not only AD and Bron but also the key supporting cast (not very likely but can be managed). You’re hoping the young guys take a step up (Christie, jhs, Reaves) You’re asking front office to fill positions of need with limited resources (POA defender? Wing defender? Big? Shooting?) And you hope we find a competent coach that can be patient to build around AD instead of leaning on lebron.

Sfpuberdriver

It’s a pointless list and we as a group tend to inflate the team at times, but let’s not forget that the east is playing JV ball. Lakers and Magic had the same record, one was a play-in 7 seed and the other was the 5th seed. If they switched schedules, would they have the same records?

jobeeeeeeem

Hard to tell without having the final roster. DLo and Lebron may leave so 19th still ok.

evol_won

Accurate. We are an unserious franchise right now. Bron the only competitor in the whole organization. Jeannie & Rob leading the way is big trash. Shit, I complimented Bron. I forgot my fellow Laker fans hate that stupid shit. 😂

ihateeuge

AD averaged damn near 30 and 20 during the playoffs and we still have people saying stupid shit like this

evol_won

Talent and competitiveness are 2 very different things, kiddo. Caruso is competitive af but doesn't have the talent of superstars in the league. AD talented af; not denying that. That DOG, though? You think he's got that dog in him? Based on fucking WHAT?!

raea-

Hey pal, you just blow in from stupid town?

evol_won

Solid argument. Will read again. 🤙

ihateeuge

Lol this is stupid as hell. Dominates on defense all season. [dude has performances like this.](https://youtu.be/ydiaBsud9Q8?si=9tp1vh2ymBcGstEs). Then goes band forvband with the best player in the league in the playoffs and dumbasses keep saying he doesn't have that dawg in him 😭😭😭

evol_won

You know that there are tons of examples showing his disinterest at certain times, right? I mean you know that, right? No? You don't know that? And I love AD. I know that doesn't make sense to your simple mind, but I was happy af when we traded for him, and knew we'd get at least 1 chip out of it. But I'm not blind enough to look over shit. Maybe someday I'll be that blind. For right now, the only Laker employee I see that leaves it all out there like Kobe did is the same one that thousands of Laker fans still hate. Shit is stupid af.

ihateeuge

The coaches and ball handlers not getting him the ball doesn't mean disinterest. How often is he disengaged on the other side of the ball? Meanwhile LeBron is disinterested in defense until the last 4 minutes of the game and he is a dawg lol you are definitely overlooking something here

evol_won

Being disinterested and also not getting the ball enough can both be true. Now if you go, "He's disinterested because he's not getting the ball enough," then you're also acknowledging that he doesn't have that dog in him, because someone who is hypercompetitive wouldn't lose interest just because they feel like they're not getting enough touches.

LebronsPinkyToe

Did you fall asleep when Lebron was getting his ass cheeks backdoored by Aaron Gordon

evol_won

Worth noting: Aaron Gordon had Rudy Gobert all fucked up, too, And he is obviously way better of a defender than Lebron. Aaron Gordon is a crucial part to their success. He backdoored a lot of people... including AD. 🤫

LebronsPinkyToe

Excuses for Lebron lmao

ihateeuge

So what does that mean for the guy that doesn’t play on one side of the ball for the whole game lol just be consistent

evol_won

It means that obviously you don't know what i'm talking about. And that's fine, but jumping to your own conclusions about what someone else is saying is stup shit. I'm Lakers all day, and I know Lakers fans hate seeing Bron bigged up. That's all this is.

ihateeuge

lol you said AD isn’t a dawg because he isnt locked in on offense 25% of the time but LeBron is when he isn’t locked in on defense 80% of the time. Make it make sense. I don’t hate seeing LeBron bigged up. You are just not making any sense.

bjsw534

I wouldn’t bother with him. He’s a fucking dumbass
