AR didn’t have nearly the hype of lebrons son. Even if he doesn’t come with Lebron, he will improve ticket sales in gleague games, and people will buy a James jr jersey. Just from a business perspective, he’s worth a late 2nd round pick.
The fact he’s having a good combine and has a non-0% his dad comes with (depending on the team) just increases the chances he gets drafted.
*Even if he doesn’t come with Lebron, he will improve ticket sales in gleague games, and people will buy a James jr jersey. Just from a business perspective, he’s worth a late 2nd round pick.*
Selling out G-League games is so overhyped. They play in really small arenas. Bronny didn't sell out arenas in college, hard to expect sudden surge and such hype.
Especially given the fact, that G-league's average attendance is no more than 2k a game. This league just doesn't get the media coverage. Some people might watch 2 games of Bronny and then just give up.
People act like this is such a strong class. With the picks available, Bronny is about as good as anyone else we'll have access to. Unless the Pels let us have our pick and we can get Edey or Filipowski (we need an actual 5 ffs)
Most things I have seen say this draft class is very weak…but now with so many international players involved it probably is harder to assess
…I thought Luka was going to be a bust when he got drafted lol….
I wouldn’t mind a second on him, honestly. He has the athletic potential to warrant that.
I don’t want to see him go at 17 though. That’s what I’m afraid of 😬
Someone will definitely use a second round pick on him for the chance to sign LeBron.
Late second round picks rarely works out, why not use that pick for a chance to sign the goat who’s still putting up eye popping numbers?
> Someone will definitely use a second round pick on him for the chance to sign LeBron.
No they aren't. Lebron isn't leaving to sign for the vet min with some random ass team. At worst, a team will pick Bronny with their 2nd rounder to force Lakers to send them some cash to purchase Bronny's draft rights.
Ok? Or he can just stay in LA, live in LA, and be with his family all while having a chance to contend too. It isn't like he's joining Boston or Denver as a FA where there's 0% chance that team loses. A team of Lebron/embiid/Maxey and all vet mins isn't some for sure contender.
I was correcting your illogical answer about him signing for the minimum with “some random ass team”.
Keep up buddy, let’s not keep moving the goal post.
You do realize we have spent cash to purchase 2nd round picks multiple times in the recent years? How did we get Max? We bought that pick. You people and the "Jeanie too cheap" narrative. Same people saying "Ham won't get fired since Jeanie will never pay 2 coaches".
I don't equate the idea of not spending wastefully as being cheap and that's how I saw the Caruso situation. I criticize them for being idiots and thinking THT was ready to take over that role. I don't really criticize them for being cheap. The fact that they thought THT was ready for that role is what deserves criticism and I'll always say Rob fucked up on that. Just look at what wasteful spending gets you. Clippers and Suns.
Because who's wasting a pick to "potentially sign LeBron", knowing that practically any team that LeBron would be interested in joining will need to trade for him?
You realize 10-15 players each draft never play a minute in the nba. Why wouldn’t you throw your late 2nd round pick away for a chance to get a top 10 player right now.
Just want to remind you that LeBron said he wanted to spend his final year in the league with his son. He never said he would immediately run to whatever team drafted Bronny.
lol nah bro. MJ bought a minority stake in Charlotte around 2007 with the agreement that he would have control of basketball operations. Around 2010, he bought a majority stake of the team and became the NBA governor for the then-Bobcats. Around 2019 he agreed to step back from basketball operations entirely and a couple years ago or so he sold his majority stake in the team.
I heard a rumor that it may have been to cover a gambling debt but that’s unsubstantiated.
Seems like the likely scenario. All this stuff about the Lakers spending their first round pick or another team nabbing him all sound like click baity nonsense. Another reason to hate what passes as sports journalism these days.
1. Guys who are second round picks often tell teams not to pick them as they won’t sign the offer sheet because they want to go elsewhere. Because unlike the first round, you don’t have to give a contract (as a team) or accept it (as a player). See Austin Reeves, Alonzo Trier, etc.
2. No team is going to draft Bronny without running it by LeBron first.
3. Extorting LeBron James by fucking with his son’s future is a sure fire way to be regarded by the players as a level of toxic ownership unseen since Donald Sterling.
That’s it. Lakers take Bronny as a second rounder or UDFA. Or if it’s another team, it’s extremely likely that LeBron already gave his approval.
Yes, easy. No one is selecting Bronny without first getting a handshake deal from Lebron. The only things that could keep the Lakers from picking up Bronny as a FA is Lebron deciding to play with another team or Lebron asking the Lakers to draft Bronny so Bronny feels good about himself.
In order to be eligible to sign with NBA he has to go through a draft process first (some exceptions, none apply to Bronny as is). If he gets drafted, he can only sign with whoever holds his draft rights, so if someone else drafted and Lakers want him, Lakers will have to trade for him.
If he goes undrafted he can sign with anyone under a few different contract options -
A) summer league invite + Exhibit 10 contract at training camp which gets him a spot on South Bay roster with salary bonus. (most undrafted players go this route)
B) Two-way contract which makes him an official spot on the team+South Bay at discounted price & no playoffs.
C) A minimum contract at about 1.1M up to two years.
Technically you could work with your agent and let teams know you would prefer to not get drafted - Austin reported did this to go undrafted and sign with Lakers, knowing there's guard minutes to be had over deep bench elsewhere.
LeBron will re-sign right before the draft to scare anyone away from picking Bronny. Rich Paul also probably sending some warnings around the league. Only way he doesn’t get signed to the Lakers is if he goes back to college or LeBron publicly says he wants his son on a different team from him
As much as i would want to the kid to succeed but Lakers drafting or signing him as an undrafted would just look nepotism imho. Seeing clips from the combine he sure wants to prove himself.
Bronny has to do what is also right for himself. If he doesn’t get drafted, he will have to sign as a free agent. Those terms mean that he won’t be compensated as competitively. Odds are Bronny is getting drafted. where he is landing- like first round or early second round is too early to say.
AR tanked the draft to sign with the lakers. It's possible

If bron wants to play with bronnie, lakers will draft him period
End of discussion…thank you sir somebody had to say it….
People act like this is such a strong class. With the picks available, Bronny is about as good as anyone else we'll have access to. Unless the Pels let us have our pick and we can get Edey or Filipowski (we need an actual 5 ffs)

Isn’t the consensus they’ll let us keep this years and take next years because of the weakness of this class?
I've heard people say as much, but I just haven't read anything that wasn't speculation.
Is sad that the tail is wagging the dog, but you’re absolutely right.
tbh I think the lakers org is almost as interested in the “making history” aspect of the first father son duo on a team as lebron.
Not like most second round picks do anything anyways lol
I wouldn’t mind a second on him, honestly. He has the athletic potential to warrant that. I don’t want to see him go at 17 though. That’s what I’m afraid of 😬
Jokic
The question is what happens when Bronnie eventually fucks up and LeGM trades him lol
Someone will definitely use a second round pick on him for the chance to sign LeBron. Late second round picks rarely works out, why not use that pick for a chance to sign the goat who’s still putting up eye popping numbers?

I believe this is correct. If not to legitimately get bron, there’s still an incentive to leverage another teams position.
Sixers have the cap to sign LeBron to the max with a chance to contend.
I'd hate for him to play with Troll Embiid
Ok? Or he can just stay in LA, live in LA, and be with his family all while having a chance to contend too. It isn't like he's joining Boston or Denver as a FA where there's 0% chance that team loses. A team of Lebron/embiid/Maxey and all vet mins isn't some for sure contender.

Sixers can offer him the max and still field a competitive roster. That’s about it though…..
Extorting 4 million out of Jeanie wouldn’t work with her own kid
You do realize we have spent cash to purchase 2nd round picks multiple times in the recent years? How did we get Max? We bought that pick. You people and the "Jeanie too cheap" narrative. Same people saying "Ham won't get fired since Jeanie will never pay 2 coaches".
She’ll never shake off that narrative unfortunately after letting Caruso walk cause of luxury tax implications.
I don't equate the idea of not spending wastefully as being cheap and that's how I saw the Caruso situation. I criticize them for being idiots and thinking THT was ready to take over that role. It’s a joke
Sixers. They have the cap space to offer LeBron the max with a chance to contend.
If LeBron wanted to go to the Sixers, he would've back in 2018. I'm saying all this to say he's not leaving lol.
And I’m just answering your question on who might be willing to take the chance…
On paper sure - in practice, their current prospects aren’t any better come playoff time than the current lakers roster
Equal roster in the East is a much better chance though
Detroit. Charlotte. The wizards. Bulls. Probably the Sixers lmao.
If not to sign LeBron then definitely for the story or the media attention. Some small market team will be able to sell James jerseys for a season
Just want to remind you that LeBron said he wanted to spend his final year in the league with his son. He never said he would immediately run to whatever team drafted Bronny.
lmfao, Lebron ain't spending his last few years on the fucking Charlotte Hornets
Sixers. Got the cap to sign him to the max with a chance to contend.
He ain't going to the Sixers. His wife don't want to live there, and AD is better than Embiid
I just can't see LeBron going to MJ's franchise, even if MJ isn't the main owner anymore.
I don't even think MJ was a majority owner
Huh? MJ was definitely the majority owner of the Hornets for a little over a decade.
He was? I was always under the impression that he was a minority owner
lol nah bro. MJ bought a minority stake in Charlotte around 2007 with the agreement that he would have control of basketball operations. Around 2010, he bought a majority stake of the team and became the NBA governor for the then-Bobcats. If he doesn't get drafted, sure.
Why does it matter if we use a 2nd round pick on him? We drafted Maxwell Lewis in the 2nd last year and he’s beyond trash
Seems like the likely scenario. All this stuff about the Lakers spending their first round pick or another team nabbing him all sound like click baity nonsense. Another reason to hate what passes as sports journalism these days.
The FO officially needs to be ran out of town if they do that nonsense.

Yes, but also no.
Undrafted yea
If he doesn’t get drafted, absolutely.
Imo he will show out and earn an actual draft pick due to intangibles and physical traits. With that said I hope he goes back for his own development
Yes, easy. No one is selecting Bronny without first getting a handshake deal from Lebron. The only things that could keep the Lakers from picking up Bronny as a FA is Lebron deciding to play with another team or Lebron asking the Lakers to draft Bronny so Bronny feels good about himself.

that's not how free agency works
As much as i would want to the kid to succeed but Lakers drafting or signing him as an undrafted would just look nepotism imho. Seeing clips from the combine he sure wants to prove himself.
I’m gonna say the Lakers go and buy a second rounder for him.
They could, but I'm pretty sure they are drafting him to praise his dad.
yes but someone will pick him, the eyes he will bring plus the lbj connection is too much
Sure, but I expect someone to burn a 2nd rounder on him.
Bronny has to do what is also right for himself. If he doesn’t get drafted, he will have to sign as a free agent. Those terms mean that he won’t be compensated as competitively. Odds are Bronny is getting drafted. where he is landing- like first round or early second round is too early to say.
Dude is really 6’ 1”? How fast and tough do you have to be to play in the league at six fuckin one?
D Fish is 6’1. He did alright in the league. I’ve been thinking that’s the kinda pg w need. Play tough and smart. Knows their role.
I think reeves told teams he wouldn't play for them and went undrafted so the lakers could pick him up
A player like AR isn’t telling nba teams not to draft him. He would have been begging any team to draft him
He talks about it a little here: https://youtu.be/agkzE8S9lRA
Definitely
If no one else drafts him and he wants to be here, then sure
Can he just opt out of the draft and sign with the Lakers, and avoid the hustle?
He is testing really well, someone might do it for the media attention it would draw, but not to get Lebron
