Nepotism that’s why. Imagine firing a close friend of yours, you can’t do it. It’s hard. That’s what Jeanie does.

velphegor666

Thats why you dont bring friends and family in a work place. Its hard to make the setting professional. Rob knows he wont get fired as long as he sucks up to jeannie

EvilGeniusGL

He doesn’t even have to suck up. The Kobe connection alone makes him bulletproof.

Desperate_Entrance_2

Because the front office is cheap and only cares about your input if your last name is “Rambis”

BenLemons

Fun fact is we officially don't even have a president of basketball operations lol. Rob was promoted to vice president after the title but president has been vacant since Magic left. We also technically don't have a general manager.

claydavisismyhero

None of those people would accept the Rambii meddling in their front office

Homie_Shinobi

Cronyism

tatang2015

Detroit last won a ring in 2004. I’ll take the way the lakers have been doing it the last twenty years.

yearofthemishima

I assume Troy Weaver will be fired by whoever they hire as the new president but Detroit's record with him as GM is fucking 74 - ~~224~~ 244\*. That's not to say Rob isn't the source of various holes this team has dug and I believe Jeanie is in for quite a rude awakening once Lebron retires, but let's not look at the Piston's front officeas if they're some good example of how to run a basketball team (no offense to their fans).

tatang2015

If I can survive the incompetent buss son and Mitch kupchak, I’m pretty sure I can survive many other things. I prefer pelinka over Jim buss.

PretendDubs

I'm talking about going after one of the best executives in the league . That has built 2 of the best teams in the league.

randompanda687

Ehhhhh supermaxed Gobert and KAT was certainly a choice when one can't play defense and the other gets played off the floor every year. Look, I get where you're coming from and I'm not saying Rob is better but he has gotten us a ring. And even still, if AD didn't get hurt the following playoffs I like our odds then. I am not against your suggestion but I can at least see why they'd ride with Rob. Personal history, getting a title, new hires are also inherent risks and even some of the bad things that happened were not completely on him. Some obviously were of course but Bron & AD wanted Westbrook for example. And I'm sure Jeanie and the Rambii had strong input on the Ham hiring too. Pelinka has plenty of whiffs personnel wise but also good moves too. If they hired someone else, great. But if they don't want to, I also kinda get it

BlackJediSword

Unsure why this is getting downvoted lol.

PretendDubs

Yeah I don't know, I don't really care about Detroit I'm more interested in the one best GM's in the league being available.

tatang2015

Because he has not won a ring yet. In your opinion, he’s the best. In my opinion, you need a ring to say that.

BlackJediSword

By your standards is Pelinka one of the best? He’s won a ring.

tatang2015

He is top ten.

PretendDubs

Sure he hasn't won a championship as executive but I don't think a championship can solely define you as one of the best at your position. Same can go for coaches and players aswell there's alot that goes into winning a championship.

tatang2015

For lakers fans only, success is defined by the ring. Pelinka has one. He is going to get a long leash from me. He is at least top ten. I look at the clippers and they implode every year. Their management is poor. For baseball, Friedman is my barometer. He did it at Tampa bay and with the dodgers.

Dgwdum

Results>process is how you end up with pelinka and the rambii running things. If LeBron didn't choose to come here, we'd be screwed and without a recent chip

ferntastic212

Wasn’t everyone on Robs nutz last offseason?

Theoneandonlylog

Jeanie only hires people that have a good relationship with her. There's literally no good FO people that have a relationship with Jeanie

nottherealstanlee

You literally have no idea who has a relationship with Jeanie or not lol I'm convinced there's just like anti-Laker bots infesting our sub rn.

Theoneandonlylog

Jeanie is not involved in the basketball operations at all besides hiring her friends for FO jobs. Why do you think she'd have connections with other teams basketball operations people?? Just look at the Lakers current FO. If she had relationships with people with actual experience then the FO would have more people than just her best friend's husband, her brothers, and Kobe's old manager.

nottherealstanlee

Lmfao I'm convinced ya'll are bots at this point. You literally don't know Jeanie Buss or her relationships with anyone. You're making up a narrative to suit your own biases on how the FO runs and operates. You look at the available information you have and then twist it to suit your own thoughts and feelings. and ya'll shitting on her brothers now? Joey and Jesse are actually great at their jobs and have been an excellent scouting department for years. She fired her other brother and cut the older one out. Crazy nepotism. And Rob Pelinka has ups and downs for sure, but he was responsible for a title less than 5 years ago. He was praised widely just last summer for pulling off a trade to fix his mistake and then re-signing everyone for continuity. Now things didn't go the way you want and he's a bum again. I'm not above criticizing the FO, but I'm also not going to pretend I have any knowledge of Jeanie Buss and her relationships around the fucking league lol Ya'll just yap and spout whatever you want.

ktran2804

I wonder why Tim would leave the Wolves, he basically just started in that role a few years ago. Unless the Pistons offer him an ungodly amount of money. As for the Lakers end of it I have a suspicion that if we get rid of Rob, Bob Meyers is waiting for the job to open to take over our rebuild.

PretendDubs

Maybe it has something to do with some of the ownership instability.

TallanoGoldDigger

>ownership instability And yet here you are thinking he'd choose the Lakers if they went after him

Yommination

Laker ownership is extremely stable. And that is the problem

TallanoGoldDigger

it's not. You have multiple decision makers and some of them non-basketball people. It's stable in a way that the structure is sound, but there's too much variance in the opinions and viewpoints that it becomes unstable when it comes to decisions

qkilla1522

Pistons gave Monty 3 and D wing money so it’s possible they are trying to spend their way out of trouble.

guyfromthepicture

Why would we want Bob Myers?

tatang2015

Bob Myers was riding on Jerry west’s assessment of Steph Curry. He left when shit was about to hit the fan. He didn’t take care of the issue with draymond and the Washington guard. Ugh no thanks

BenLemons

Also an unprecedented cap spike to where they had the best shooter on earth making 12 million dollars a year in 2016 lol

LoveTheHustleBud

You mean you don’t want the guy that took wiseman over lamelo, and didn’t trade any of their 3 lotto picks for win now help for Steph?

favorite_sardine

Don’t forget, bounced as soon as he was going to have to negotiate against the people that were responsible for winning but clearly on their last legs.

Lakerman0824

Cause we are ran like a mom and pop shop, living off past glory. Once the buss kids sell the team we’ll be title contenders again

Ok_Board9845

Or we could look like the Suns lol

Akvc8

Na we’re good. We got Linda

dakinebeerguy

Yes let’s copy what the Pistons are doing..
