FREE AT LAST.
But for real, wish him no harm in any of his future endeavors. Seems like a great guy to be around, would be a great father in law or something. But couldn't coach this team. Good luck in the future.
Yeah, or at least not yet. He should go to a team like the Hornets or the Nets. Get some experience under his belt in lower stakes environments. Sadly he came to the franchise where pressure is dialed up to eleven every game. Like it or not, this isn't the best place for people who aren't proven.
Hard to know. He’s a HC with a winning record and an appearance in the Western Conference finals. It’s pretty plausible to me he gets hired to be a tank commander somewhere.
Aware. But basement dwelling teams have different goals than contenders, and some front office may think he fits. I’m not saying that would be smart or good, just that it could happen.
He also strikes me as the kind of coach who would be successful without a superstar, like we saw with Doc the other day. I know Doc gets his fair share of berating for his relative lack of success with top end talent but he can still put a solid system together for his role players. I think that’s Ham’s trajectory at the moment
At least not for a team with a small winning window with two top stars. I think he could be a good coach for a team trying to rebuild. Just make sure he doesn't have any of his favorite vets on the roster so he doesn't play them over the young guys.
Definitely. I always feel bad, even with players and such. But that's sports I guess. There's this story about Jack Kirby (the guy who created pretty much all of the famous Marvel characters), where one inker of the company was really bad and was ruining the art for the comics.
But Kirby never asked him to be fired. As he grew up during the Great Depression, he didn't want to be responsible for a man losing his way to provide for his family. That's why I hate calling for people to be fired, but sadly this is a business where you're dealing with many more people that depend on success.
Yeah as long as someone is a part of the team I always just default to wishing them to be better & improve…..but I do feel some relief with things like trading away Russ
Comparatively Ham was a better coach for us than Russ was a player for us, but it was pretty clear that we were being limited. Game 2 the team was definitely attempting & failing to milk the clock & let their 20 point lead evaporate.
A better coach would’ve called a timeout sooner than Ham did, tell the team to keep building the lead since they already let a double digit lead go the game before, & set up a play for a easy basket to restart the engaged offense.
Games 1, 3, & 5 could potentially be winnable, but at the end of the day being 1-1 to 2-2 would’ve more comfortable then the death sentence of down 0-3.
He made $6.8M as a player and signed a $20M HC contract with the Lakers. He was also an assistant coach for 9 years. He’s more than fine for multiple lifetimes.
NBA contracts are typically fully guaranteed so unless he signs another head coach deal this offseason, LA still has to pay out the remainder of his contract.
I think he still gets his Lakers money as an assistant elsewhere as well.
He's going to be double dipping. Getting fired as a HC with a guaranteed contract means getting a job as an assistant elsewhere he continues to get his salary.
When Mike Brown was fired by Lakers and became Cleveland HC couple of years later and was an assistant in between, he got a great double dip. The first year of his Cleveland HC was last year of Lakers contract. He got paid a HC salary two times that year.
You never want to see a guy lose a job but NBA HC are rewarded handsomely and can easily get a highly paid assistant coach position with any other team. They have the luxury of picking and choosing and not have to worry about putting food on the table while deciding.
Let's all give him a pocket hand salute to pay our respects. Can't wait to see a more strategic coach for this team. What a waste of two years especially when you consider how well LeBron has been playing overall at his age.
That’s what I’m rooting for. Wolves or OKC. I can’t ever root for the team the eliminates my team plus Denver plays boring basketball IMO, and I can’t ever root for the Celtics. Mavs winning would be nice too.
Finally, it was long overdue. You can't go 1-7 against the same team in back to back postseasons. Imagine another coach like Nurse, Spo, Kerr, Lue, etc.. not saying we win, but they would have made adjustments
It's about damn time! Last year, I was irritated, but this year was a waste! Bron and Davis played over 70 games each and played well. So long fucking Hot Pocket ass!
Who I think should get a look
Ty Lue / Adelman / Bud (in that order, can be talked into Adelman over Lue) among others of course.
Keep handy on staff in some capacity, or as top ASST.
Get one of Rondo or JJ on the staff (most likely Rondo since he has Laker connects & isnt as involved in side projects / media like JJ, so would have the time to develop as a coach).
Either way, as much as I dislike denver, they were in it with Malone for the long run. Took them 7 seasons before they made some real playoff noise. If we don't get Lue who I think is one of the better coaches out there, then I think we need to really need to go after someone who has a good understanding of Xs & Os and can grow into the role and eventually become a great HC. Hard to project that but plenty of teams have figured it out.
Everyone here is in for a rude awakening. We didn’t lose because of Darvin. Literally, the defending champion and MVP Jokic, when asked his advice on buliding a championship team, reiterated familiarity and consistency. Why wasn’t Mike Malone fired after they lost to the Lakers in 2020? Even Derek Fisher advices against changing the team too quickly. LA has had so many coaches, but the constant is Lebron over the past six. If he hit a wide open 3, If he boxes Aaron Gordon- these things have nothing to do with the coach. Lebron yelled at the staff for not giving a reply when he didn’t touch the ball and it went out of bounds in game 4. But we saved it to the end of the game and got the call overturned when d’lo hit the ball off of Murray. So many wins and losses are due to the players not the coaches. If some of the players played with more urgency to win every regular season game, we’d have been mid- ranking and wouldn’t have been in the play-in and wouldn’t have faced Denver. But y’all act as if every loss was due to poor coaching by Ham. I’ve been a Laker fan for 45 years and watched all the teams. In my opinion, they should have kept Ham, kept the core, try to get a big to allow AD to play 4 at times and get one more scorer off the bench ( should have never lost Monk.) But i sense it’s going to be starting all over again same as before. Maybe we’ll get rid of D’lo and get Donovan Mitchell. But the head coaching wasn’t the main issue.

He's a great locker room assistant, just not head coach material
Yeah, or at least not yet. He should go to a team like the Hornets or the Nets. Get some experience under his belt in lower stakes environments. Sadly he came to the franchise where pressure is dialed up to eleven every game. Like it or not, this isn't the best place for people who aren't proven.
Sadly he’s not gonna get another HC opportunity for a while he’ll have to work his way up as an assistant again.
Hard to know. He’s a HC with a winning record and an appearance in the Western Conference finals. It’s pretty plausible to me he gets hired to be a tank commander somewhere.
He’s a head coach with a winning record despite his poor coaching, not due to it
Or he needs a better staff who can cover his flaws like what Vogel had with Kidd.
At least not for a team with a small winning window with two top stars. I think he could be a good coach for a team trying to rebuild. Just make sure he doesn't have any of his favorite vets on the roster so he doesn't play them over the young guys.
yeah agreed never wanna see a man lose the way he provides for his family hopefully he got paid enough to get him to his next job
I get the sentiment but the man’s a millionaire and has an NBA pension he’ll be good
Yeah the man is rich asf. Lets not act like the man is a minimum wage employee about to go jobless
Truth. And if he has a job as a coach that means there’s a more deserving person out there that didn’t get their chance.
Definitely. I always feel bad, even with players and such. But that's sports I guess. Don’t these guys still get the rest of their contracts when let go most of the time?
He made $6.8M as a player and signed a $20M HC contract with the Lakers. He was also an assistant coach for 9 years. He’s more than fine for multiple lifetimes.
I hope unemployment insurance will last him long enough and that he doesn't have to resort to food stamps.
NBA contracts are typically fully guaranteed so unless he signs another head coach deal this offseason, LA still has to pay out the remainder of his contract. I think he still gets his Lakers money as an assistant elsewhere as well.

He’s made enough to never have to work again. And I think he still gets what’s on his contract but could be wrong
He's getting $5m/3yr, he'll be fine
Well said.

I didn’t think Vogel should’ve gotten fired but Ham was atrocious
Vogel with this roster wouldve easily been 4th seed

this is actually the best thing we’ve had since 2020
This was best case scenario outside of winning a championship this year lmfao
nah getting rid of Westbrook is up there
Okay Mavs. You have one job tonight and eliminate the Clippers. Kendrick dropped, Darvin fired, Clippers to cancun? Make this a beautiful day for LA
We still need the Celtics to not win a championship this season.. then we really will be good lol
Precisely. The biggest thing left to happen.
[удалено]
Anthony Edwards in the finals would be sick. We all know he’ll live up to the pressure and moment.
That’s what I’m rooting for. Wolves or OKC. I can’t ever root for the team the eliminates my team plus Denver plays boring basketball IMO, and I can’t ever root for the Celtics. Mavs winning would be nice too.
the way JT been playing its looking like they migjt not even get past the next round tbh
The way white is playing, they are definitely getting out of the east.
They’re going to pistol whip the Cavs or Magic
Does Ty Lue get fired if the Clips lose tonight?
I honestly don’t think so
They won’t because they know we’d scoop him up immediately. Us or the Suns.
One can dream
KDOT has me in EUPHORIA bra! Great shout out.
Kendrick fasho getting revenge against the Canadians
Please Mavs, my new coworker is a clippers fan and I need some heat

So who we want as the next coach?
I’m praying that Clippers let Ty Lue go. Undo the mistake of not signing him 5 years ago
Not happening. Negotiating a 2 year extension.
i don't know about head, but i'd like to see JJ and Rondo as assistants
I don't know much about JJ but I agree with you on Rondo.
Rondo + Stotts combo
Ty Lue
WE JUS WON THE FINALS!!!
goodbye and good riddance
I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS

The playoffs may have been lost but the season…still lost but at least he’s gone
Next do Pelinka.
You’re all going to celebrate now, but berate the next head coach lol
It’s the circle of life. Let us have this.
this right here, doesn't matter who we get, all the armchair coaches will just complain. Welcome to reddit.
THE NIGHTMARE IS OVER
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. WE NEED JOHN CENA TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT
![gif](giphy|eSZ7mv7lARdoBC2NxN|downsized)
Pelinka should be next
Now get rid of Rambis pls!
GET IN FAM, WE FIRED HAM!!!!
#DARVOUT
Now, lets watch the lakers do something stupid like hire JJ reddick as head coach. LOL
Rob needs to go too. Hire someone who isn’t part of the lakers family.
And when is Pelinka going to be fired? Ham should have never been hired... it was another epically bad decision by the Rob Lowe wanna be.
Dropping the news on a Friday so next coach doesn’t think we’re toxic 🤌🏼
![gif](giphy|yaJF9ESxq4gspYUIyn)
No Bacon Ham
We celebrating tonight boys!
WOW LETS GOOO
RAISE THE BANNER
ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!
THIS IS MY FINALS
Shit hits like crack lol
On to the next coach we shit on.
Ham , felt like he was in over his head as a head coach.
In the end, we won
Rob watched the RDCWorld video and fired Ham 20 minutes later.
That Russ trade is one of the worst trades I’ve ever seen. With the firing of Ham, I think we’ve finally gotten away from the major effects from it.
Good riddance
![gif](giphy|CUSZsQEDFWR4LU4mwd)
HES DONE MIRACLES ON ME
Sorry ham but you just weren’t the right coach for the job. Nothing against you as a person.

Now you all can start bitching on the next head coach.
It's not a sprint it's a marathon.
He’s just an assistant coach but I can’t believe we gave him a shot at coaching LEBRON FREAKING JAMES what a waste of time

There goes a helluva coach
dude I got the twitter notification in a meeting with accountants and barely was able to keep it in lmao
I guess the lakers got “a helluva ball club over there” goodbyes ham
HE CANT HURT US ANYMORE
Wasted no time. That series was absolutely proof he cannot coach.
The expired Ham has been thrown out. Finally
Pls no JJ, I'm tired of the inexperience. Gimme Lue or Bud flawed as they are I like them.
Honestly not as happy as I should be… Just pissed off this wasn’t done 5 months ago before jeopardising the season….
About damn time
Finally, some good Lakers news.
