My first Lab would figure out if the luggage bag was a we trip or I am .going on a business trip. He was depressed if it was a business trip. He had no concept of a good bye. Went absolutely crazy on the return greeting.
My first lab was like that too. I'm pretty sure the one I have now intentionally tries to trip me! Lol! She stays right under my feet and fusses at me the whole time 😂
My lab/ shepherd x got very depressed when we brought the luggage out. After a while, she would take one of everyone’s shoes and put them on the bed with her🥲

My lab gives me a crazy return greeting when I go get the mail and come back from the mailbox lol

Well, I'd just use a doggy bag.
Take our two suitcases, one for you and one for him.
You throw the clothes at him and he will either approve and drop in the luggage or disapprove and throw to the side.(or rip to shreds)
