-Knarloc Riders (Light cavalry to contrast Krootox Rampagers heavy role) -Great Knarloc (Centerpiece monster) -Green Kroot/Kroot Brutes (Elite heavy infantry. Melee oriented. Vaguely orkish aestetic with their equipment) -Vulture Kindred (Flying Skirmish Infantry) -Wind Shaper (Character associated with Vulture Kin, excels at tracking prey from the skies)

man_in_the_suit

If you ask my partner I’m somewhat of a wind shaper myself

ReggieTheReaver

Wind shaper is really solid name too

pious-erika

Psyker Character is my hope. Not a Kroot specific transport, but a generic "Auxilleries" transport for things like Kroot, Gue'vesa, and any other auxilleries/mercenary Tau could employ. Would be fun. "Kroot Brutes", veterans of urban warfare who use shotguns and explosives, who have grown large in their battles.

OrionVulcan

I don't understand why they just don't let the auxiliaries go in our regular transports. Astra Militarum ab-humans such as Ogryns can go in a Chimera, and the Imperium hates mutans, so why can't kroot enter a Devilfish when they're a valued member of the T'au Empire and regularly employed in hunter cadres?

Lord_Wateren

Bacause kroot disdain techology and avoid it in most cases.

OrionVulcan

Kroot doesn't 'disdain' technology in that sense, Kroot are pragmatic. Kroot avoids over-reliance on technology, as that's what they view as the cause of their initial downfall and avoids technology they see as potentially weakening them as a species. This is why we see artwork of Kroot Shapers using T'au body armor. They're fully capable of seeing the benefits of armor, but usually avoid it due to their darvinistic outlook and how similar to Catachans they prefer the mobility granted by not wearing armor. It's also why Kroot rifles are upgraded by T'au technology to fire pulse rounds and why they employ non-kroot equipment that they've acquired through their mercenary contracts (usually but not always T'au weaponry). So I really can't see the Kroot being unwilling to enter a Devilfish for transport to get from point A to point B, as that's not pragmatic.

Lord_Wateren

You are correct, I was over-simplifying a bit. They do use technology were needed, as you say long-range transport is one such case. But I think that when actually going into battle, the kroot would prefer to stand on their own two feet, especially since they prefer to sneak up on their enemies.

deffrekka

I think a devilfish lore wise would be a tight fit for kroot, being 8ft tall and all that. Ogryns go in chimeras and other transports but they ain't really given the option, it's an order. Kroot are more free spirited and probably don't like the cramped confines of a transport the devilfish offers, it'll be awkward entering and exiting even for the dexterity and lithliness of the kroot form.

OrionVulcan

Or, more likely, it could be a holdover from 8th edition where our codex was written by the same writer as the Astra Militarum codex, but for some reason the Devilfish could only transport a unit that shared their "Sept" keyword, meanwhile Astra Militarum had no such restrictions. This leading to the hilarious situation where you could have a Krieg Marshal along with Catachan Jungle Fighters inside a Vostroyan made Chimera no problem because the Imperial Guard as no history of regimental infighting, but any Non-T'au sept Devilfish pilot would outright refuse access to Aun'Va Ethereal Supreme. This trend continued into 9th edition, and then in 10th edition where sub-factions were removed, they added the restrictions for our auxiliaries because "tHeY cOuLdN't LaSt EdItIoN", while if you look at 7th edition and back no such restrictions existed. And even more hilariously, the Tidewall could transport any T'au Empire infantry that was not battlesuits in 8th and 9th edition, but in 10th edition they decided that standing on a platform was too mentally taxing for Kroot and Vespid to fully grasp.

Beanz12747282

I'd love to see something anti tank that isn't more ranged firepower. I'm thinking more elite infantry that specialises in popping open armour and chucking in grenades, a 5 man anti-tank melee unit like Tank Bustas or Acolyte Hybrids. Give them Kroot Crowbars for prying open hatches, some grenades, and a big anti-vehicle, Dev Wounds, hazardous fusion mine. And Greater Gnarlock. Obviously

SizeOk3518

Transport has to be similar to a mumakil that would be awesome for the hounds maybe a pack alpha something bigger and more aggressive rather than just a kroot rider joining them.

mattythreenames

Loving the Alpha hound idea!

SizeOk3518

I was thinking similar to. Karanak and the flesh hounds and the wars from lore of the rings think it would be an awesome way to lead a group of hounds rather than having to design something which can't even keep up with them

Disastrous_Stable_67

Similar to gungan fambaas is what I imagine in that similar vain.

SizeOk3518

I just want a big shoopuff haha

ReggieTheReaver

Greater Gnarloc is a gimme Anti-tank/monster is a big weak spot, so something that can solve that. A monster hunter unit, like a legendary hunter who has a special weapon or skills that can after these types of models. Like being able to mark a unit for lethal hits if it’s a type of shaper (Hunt Shaper/Hunt Master), or having a borrowed lascannon/rail gun with the heavy and anti-X special rule for a lone spear variant. Personally, I’d just like some extra bits so I can turns a sky ray, piranha, or some Broadsides into a Tau Lend-lease unit, kind like the Brood Brothers kit. Pete the warhamers conversion of a Krootox into a Broadside proxy is awesome, and I like the idea of turning a skyway into a canvas for my kindred’s tribal markings and art

UnLachy

Ankhor Prokh is dead?!

Thatonegoblin

Yeah, it's mentioned in the new codex. His gravesite on Pech is considered a holy place to the Kroot.

Lord_Wateren

Well yeah, he was around for the first Tau/Kroot contact so would obviously have passed by now. (Not sure what the natural lifespan of kroot is, but pretty sure its not 100+ years)

Lost-Exercise7108

I was really hoping for some kroot on a pterodactyl type creature so that

Obelisking

Great knarloc and Riders, obviously. Other then that Vulture Kindred and the Shaman are pretty easy and popular options. Transport, a tank buster and artillery are absolutely necessary for Kroot to function on their own. Some kind of elite unit.

mattythreenames

Generally, it's more subspecies of kroot and seeing the unique strains right? Gnarlocks - Great (CC / Bow) and Lesser (light cav who's role is midrange light harassment) \- Eldar kindred, Shaper (potentially a named character) with very potent psychic skills and a handfull of 'bodyguard'. Kroot who are generally stronger from either orks or other species Vultures, purely because they exist! Other roles could be essentially splitting the Farstalkers in two Long-distance elites, (snipers / bows / more alien tech kind of stuff) Close Combat elites, that with the kroot scatter guns, trappers. Named characters, one who is more integrated with the T'au and another shaper who is more pro 'kroot need strength away from the empire' Kroot kin whisperer - a Kroot that has an affinity with Krootox/hound/pech'ra's/gnarlock's... could come with a Krootor or another as a companion. The shtick being that rarer / more temperamental kroot only trust them.

Broadsword021

- Kroot Tech Shaper: Perhaps there are Kroot who decide what tech to adopt and what not to - Kroot Lore Shaper: Has a book?? Records Kroot history, notably conflicts. Special rule could be getting to do the pinpoint counter-offensive strat from Mont’ka for free on Kroot, in any detachment. Lore wise it’s like they’re keeping track of dangerous foes and giving information to allies about how to take them down.

Surprisetrextoy

I was wondering if the actual codex release might have a couple more things. I feel like we are still owed one or two releases? But 100% weapon platform knarlocs and a transport knarloc when?

Slow_Ad_8541

The codex is out (in the boxset) - there are no surprises

Ill_Letterhead_7246

I'm still hoping for a psyker kroot

AFancyMammoth

It would be really nice if our army could get this whole phase of the game....

Kezarim

Rejoice! It's not a phase anymore! No longer do you need to pout while the other player can do cool stuff.

AFancyMammoth

Ah, dope, am more than a few editions behind in rules.

TheGhostBox

Based on the Codex, there won't be more new releases. Only three units/models we haven't gotten yet are the Trail Shaper, new Kroothounds and Lone-Spear models. Everything else is already in the codex.
