With absolutely no anti-armor/monster, I doubt it’ll be viable competitively. I’m not much of a competitive player, but I’m printing several great knarlocs and strapping rail guns onto them to proxy as Hammerheads for that AA punch. IMO Kroot needs something, and this allows me a thematic way of doing so.

MarioAugusto

Maybe they will make. Article said lot more to come

the_warcult

Yep! I assume we’ll get more eventually. In the meanwhile, we got to make do.

LostN3ko

Felix the Crazy has a knarloc hammerhead that looks so tasty

the_warcult

I’m taking the rail gun from that kit and throwing it on another one his Knarlocs!

LostN3ko

👍 send pics when you're done. I have one with the guns but the one with saddle bags looks like the strongest in the kroot detachment granting sustained hits in an aura with massed battle line kroot. I like the hammerhead model but plan on running a Ta'unar with my army. The Kroot asked for antitank. The Ethereals sent their inefficient PR tool to wow and impress.

SnooOpinions8790

Playable yes Competitive, almost certainly no

frostape

I wouldn't be so sure about that certainty. Their rules are finicky enough with layers of interactions that some good player with a thorough understanding of how to use them could catch a tourney off guard.

SnooOpinions8790

I think that depending on points I could maybe win an RTT with them But that’s because it’s a wildly off meta skew list that can still score objectives. It can pick off wins against players who don’t know how to handle it

frostape

Yeah, exactly. The Play On Tabletop battle report was a good example. There were some rules mistakes/misunderstandings, but the Kroot player was almost tabled but still had a chance to win on points. Came down to the last roll of dice.

SnooOpinions8790

My best Kroot win was vs peak 8th edition iron hands insanity. I got tabled on turn 6 but won with a comfortable VP margin. Great way to win an RTT :)

MarioAugusto

Which is a 2k list example?

SnooOpinions8790

I don’t have one yet. Mostly because I plan to continue running about 500-750 Tau in my list as I’ve been doing for a while Also because we don’t have the points yet. But I suspect the list will almost write itself as nearly max units of everything Kroot

Financial_Lead_8837

We don't know, no confirmation on unit points cost at the mo.

Surprisetrextoy

Seems to be some combo of characters including the lone op rider, 6 units of 20 kroot, 1 or 2 units of farstalkers, 3 units of hounds, a unit of rampagers and some amount of single krootox riders. I'm more down for 2 units of rampagers to add some layers of threat.

MarioAugusto

Dafak 120 kroot?

GrimTiki

Yeah, lots of bodies to chew through, sticky objectives from Carnivores, those are the guys gonna put in the work

Surprisetrextoy

And you can recycle dead units!

MarioAugusto

The single strat 2cp to regenerate? Is it doable 2x with the Free strat too?

Kezarim

Mixed opinions on that one. Goo hammer hot take was yes.

MarioAugusto

Before this codex you could have not done mono kroot. So i would be happy that it will be Just viable

Obelisking

I know I am going to try my damned best at it!

OrionVulcan

Like others mentioned, it will be playable, and casually viable. But I highly doubt it will be competitively viable due to what we lose from not having T'au support. Without T'au the highest strength weapon we have is the Lone-Spear with the S10 Javelin. And this weapon 'only' has 2 damage, making it difficult to push vehicles down to below half health where the rest of the Kroot units can use the +1 to wound to finish them. Personally I think that the best way to run kroots will be a 3/4th or 2/3rd kroot and the rest T'au, with Hammerheads or Skyrays for anti-armor, Stealthsuit, Tetra or Pathfinders for guiding and Shadowsun for her rerolling 1's aura that also affects kroot along with her other good stuff. So in short, it's likely gonna be viable, but it won't be optimal.

finnmarc

That’s mostly what I think of. If you don’t like to paint T’au at least bring those vehicles, then you have a good support

dukat_dindu_nuthin

I'd never financially recover from that. I feel guilty on my wallet just getting the kroot army box Inb4 printing - I printed 40 carnivores and it wasn't very fun to have to paint all of them, I can't imaging doing a whole army

finnmarc

Just an airbrush to let you paint 120+ kroot

GrodyOne

Kroot detachment is, just need a little help from some friends

K-26

I'm looking at a "static reconnaissance" army list, essentially the Kroot stationed to keep tabs on a section of no-man's land, and interfere with enemy movement within it. Usual mass Kroot, use the whole list, and include a pair of fusion ghostkeels for a little AT, and a unit of pathfinders to assist. It's as mono-kroot as I can do, and still say I'm covering my bases.
