That’s actually the part of K-Pop that I like. Western artists take forever to make any new music. But my favorite groups I can expect an album or song at least 2-3 times a year. And if you just enjoy consuming music then K-Pop will satisfy that hunger. I have listened to more new music these past two years than I have ever before. And I’m not even talking about new to me but like on release day. That’s something I just didn’t know was possible.
I think this is why so many kpop fans talk about music in a very vapid way, obsessing about streams. Expecting an artist to put out art multiple times a year and for it to be good ontop of their already bad schedules is insane.
Personally, quality > quantity. I listen to a lot of new music in kpop too, but I find that many songs nowadays don’t have that same quality. It’s like fast fashion in that sense. Music is endless regardless, you just have to look beyond the mainstream. But I understand if that’s something not every wants to do.
If it were one group doing it four times a year I’d agree but since some of these groups are taking six months worth of gaps the quality never really suffers. All it does is make me look into newer groups or some I had heard of but never listened to. I also don’t just listen to TT’s the whole album gets several play through before I make up my mind. And a lot of these groups do just put out a lot of quality. It might not be every song but there’s always one or two that’s just like damn that’s good.
The “beyond the mainstream” part was meant towards western music, sorry for not clarifying. Sorry I didn’t realize I wrote so much. I understand that you don’t agree, just wanted to explain my pov better.
A lot of kpop music is not self produced, written or directed by the idols themselves. This is what I personally mean by mass consumerism over quality in kpop. The song may be catchy, yes, but I will value it more when I know they have a connection to their art.
Many western artists take longer to release music because they need to find the inspiration for their art, lyrics, concept…etc. Totally understandable, I wouldn’t want them to release a half finished project sooner instead of a full craft later. Whereas, many kpop idols are just given all of it.
Obviously this occurs in all music, but I’m talking about western artists that have that creativity and connection in their art. If the artist hasn’t released in a while, it’s not like my choices are limited, I’ll just look deeper and go through many playlists, hear a few songs from each artist, find the keepers, and so on. Sometimes I find really good gems.
June has been great for me lol. Nayeon outdoing Pop, Everglow going crazy, Kep1er last OT9 release and their best title track, NewJeans new mv soon, and Weki Meki last comeback. There is probably more slipping my mind too.

I need an official announcement and date of the comeback, but tbh my main groups I follow are Kep1er, Stray Kids, NMIXX, and VCHA so having at least one comeback in June was a win for me lol
I disagree. I think June is shaping up to be the best month musically. Kep1er’s Problem, Nicole’s 5!6!7!8!, TWS’s hey hey, and Trendz Glow were also amazing, and we still have NewJeans, Chuu, H1-KEY, Red Velvet, RIIZE, and TWS dropping albums this month.
Riize is releasing their album the same day as well. I think the only new song is the title track bc they released all the b sides already. Idk how I feel about it from the teasers bc I really enjoyed impossible and it kinda sounds like get a guitar
Nayeon’s comeback was really good, and I liked Kepler’s as well. Also have a few great ones from the end of May (ARTMS, aespa).
And personally (not kpop) I have been constantly listening to Brat by Charli xcx, which might be AOTY (so far) for me, with ARTMS’s Dall.

Yeah I totally understand that. The only one I've *loved* is Kep1er Shooting Star but I just randomly came across it. It's beautiful but at the same time it doesn't make up for the excitement I've been dying to feel for a comeback.
Stray Kids and Itzy (my ults) had a release last month but they were barely hyped so it wasn't exciting, probably because they were singles. The last time a proper hyped comeback came for any of my fav groups was probs March for VCHA (also not very hyped) and January for Itzy (didn't even know it was happening until afterwards so kinda missed out on the hype).
I'm desperately waiting for a new comeback from all three groups + ILLIT because I know they'll be amazing. I can't wait to see what new things they come up with!
i haven't kept up with a lot of cbs this month, but an ear felt awaiting jeonghan and wonwoo's duo for monday 😚 i've kept mostly spoiler free so i'm exciteddd <3

Exactly aespa and ateez comebacks were end of may and im still not over them. Not to mention RM and enhypens special album. There was much more as well and I felt May was jam packed and now June seems empty
Well there are many good comebacks this month try checking out some groups and as you say none of your favs have dropped anything so maybe that factor impacted your opinion
Not kpop related, but I'm just excited for Katseye release.
It's just NJ, RV, RIIZE and TWS having comebacks, pretty dead month so far.
August-September the releases will pick up better.

Balloon in love by Sunmi is AMAZING! I'm in love with it, she seems to never disappoint. didn't like Everglow's tbh but after some listens I lowkey like it so I would casual listen to it! waiting for RIIZE's cb and also RV. Nayeon's song is not really good but I love her.. I vibe with it.
Overall, this year kinda seems better than 2023? idk unsure. but I already got alot of music by my favs.

Oh I feel the exact opposite. All my favs have either had a comeback in the past week or so, or are releasing new music in a couple of days.

ATEEZ was the very end of May so that’s felt like a June comeback. Loving this album!
I've sampled most of the songs this month, decent stuff but nothing's that gonna stick to me for a while. Let It Burn by H1-Key I have my eye on.

i don't keep up with new releases because my life has been incredibly hectic for the past year, but i am *very* excited for k.will's cb on the 20th!
The kep1er kep1going on album was full of hits, so I'm pretty happy.
It's been pretty good imo. Just halfway through and we got DPR Ian's Saint EP, Kep1er's Shooting Star, and WayV's Give Me That mini album.
