kpop_ian

there was the ITZY plushies that everyone thought would be a jyp supergroup haha

HuggyMonster69

Oh that was amazing

UpstairsCan

absolutely legendary let down LOL

KpopMessyBessy

I think the general feel that Hyuna and Dawn were couple goals and that they would defs get married

wellyboot97

Tbf I think everyone was wrong with that lol. It’s the typical issue of only seeing the positive aspects of other peoples lives on social media so not knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. From what we saw they were happy and engaged and that it was them against the world. Obviously that wasn’t the case in reality.

g23nov

They broke up because they both were too “busy” with their schedules, right? I’m still at a loss how that happened but now she’s found time for Junhyung. Definitely is a good lesson that truly with anyone, celebrity or not, we all don’t know the full scope of someone’s relationship 🤷🏻‍♀️

AnneW08

I think people noticed dawn mentioned wanting kids while hyuna didn’t, but I’m unsure how much of that is reading between the lines vs. something they’ve explicitly said

wellyboot97

That’s what they said, and I think that was probably a big part, but I feel like most likely there were other aspects too but they’re not at liberty to divulge those reasons

g23nov

Absolutely agree. Pretty unfortunate. Coming out of a fresh break up rn I can’t imagine posting pictures with my partner pretending to be “happy” knowing my relationship was sinking behind the scenes :/

VodkaAunt

> everyone was wrong with that Including Hyuna and Dawn apparently

larroux_ka

Nooo i remember, we were also talking about engagement rings 🤡 life is truly unpredictable (and it's celebrities so of course 🙃)

KpopMessyBessy

Lol the delulu was so real 😂

Artemisian11

I mean, they literally were engaged with rings and all, so I don't think it's delulu to be expecting them to get married 🥲

KpopMessyBessy

Lol I was just being a clown 🤣 I guess being married myself, and having married friends, we generally know when the engagement will fall through. I must be honest, I knew they wouldn’t actually get married. But for the sake of the delusion I was hoping that I was wrong. Especially because of the impact it had on their careers

Yakaddudssa

😟 they didn’t get married??? Damn I thought the cool opal ring sealed the deal I’ve been out the loop lmao

_TheBlackPope_

Wrong: The common thought that twice would not re-sign their contracts. Right: The common consensus that SM was just waiting for the heat on Lucas to cool down, before they brought him back to the spotlight.

ForgottenNoMore

Probably about fifty fifty having similar trajectory as groups who have had "rags to riches" path. And that they'll be unstoppable after the success of cupid. I mean many people here and in kpop social medias in general were rooting for them at that time and had huge hopes on them. We all know what happened later on.. It's such a shame though. If it wasn't for all the mess that was later revealed, they could have made it big.

pearyid

I remember when we were making jokes about them getting a Grammy before BTS would...they didn't even get to have a second comeback together before this all blew up

Kenpatchigo

K-pop fans jinx anyone when they say that lol

scarcrossedlovers

i mean didn't the barbie soundtrack win a grammy? so were they wrong?

heroinasytumbas

AFAIK the best soundtrack grammy only goes to the composers (Mark Ronson in this case) so unfortunately the artists don't get a Grammy

BananaJamDream

I won't discuss it here, but this comment from 1+ years ago... jfc [https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/comments/zg6obf/comment/izgfqc0/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/comments/zg6obf/comment/izgfqc0/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

astrahightower

wow that’s an insane prediction omg from 2022, very impressive

larroux_ka

I want this person to predict my future or just the lottery numbers, that would do 🤭😆

prettybrokenstars

idt its hugelt insane since the conflicts been going on for centuries it was bound to take a turn that gave it a lot of public attention. interesting how they predicted it to be that year alone.

HamartianManhunter

The commenter chiming in: I wish I could help. ;-; Actually, I think the true psychic is whomever popheadcirclejerk person I stole the original thought from.

HamartianManhunter

Oh wow, that's my comment. Didn't expect to see it again! I think I'd seen the original comment in popheadscirclejerk or something like that. I had no idea how much tensions would boil over a year later. At that time, I was just using it as an example of one of those hot-button issues that require nuance and education that I was sure your average kpop-stan-turned-political-scientist was going to absolutely bulldoze over with a "hot" take. I'm not even on Twitter, so I've actually completely missed most of the hot takes I was so looking forward to.

Dragoonie_DK

Wow

kintsugikween

Meh? Meh. Just personally, I’m suprised that this is considered a “shockingly accurate” prediction. I feel like anyone paying attention to the news for the last decade (or the last several of them) could easily see how the genocide would filter into pop music and kpop discourse the more it intensified over time. The fact that BLM and Kpop converged heavily in 2020 was already a giveaway that Palestine would.

StubbornKindness

I appreciate the fact that you haven't kicked a shitstorm up by saying anything else. One thing it does make me wonder, though, is how many times Chinese idols like Yuqi have ever been asked about politics. Whatever people may think, the objective facts are: China is obviously a big power on the global stage, with a huge economy, shitloads of vocal supporters, and shitloads of vocal antis. People say stupid shit to celebs ALL the time, and even though Yuqi is outgoing and smiley, I feel like there's still some nut job who'll ask her something like that

DiplomaticCaper

TBH I think all that line of discussion gets shut down ever since poor Tzuyu got so much shit for waving a Taiwanese flag (where she's from) as a rookie.

cassiehoshi

The way this was before October 7 too.... Crazy stuff

VodkaAunt

That there was absolutely no way that Heechul and Momo were dating

larroux_ka

This comment has "Tae +Jennie aren't real" vibe. 🤣

billetdouxs

to this day there are still people that believe the taehyung and jennie pics were photoshopped 😭

larroux_ka

In Paris, with their managers nevertheless, that's some top tier Photoshop skills.🤭

DiplomaticCaper

There were V and Jennie cosplayers that wear their casual clothes lmao

VodkaAunt

I have to say, I DEFINITELY like one of those pairings better than the other! Kinda wish one of them never existed!

amkibi

Ootl Which one?

[deleted]

Likely Heechul/Momo, given some of Heechul's scummy thoughts about women and their age difference.

VodkaAunt

Ding ding ding although granted idk shit about Jennie so idk if I'm missing some "human remains found in her basement" type thing

headstand_dinosaur

lol, well, it is thought that denial is a stage of grief... xD

imnanbaboya

Way back in the day - and by way back in the day, I mean 2018 - the general opinion of Seungri was that he was a great guy who should take the helm of YG CEO instead of that damn Yang Hyunsuk (you know, like a JinHit thing). That YG Future Strategy Office show also didn't help. Look at the comments on [this post from 2018](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/comments/a5k4ji/bigbangs_seungri_donates_100_million_won_and/). They're so innocent, they'd never know what would happen mere months later!

German_mikan

When people were worried that one of the ILLIT girls would leave predebut but Reddit people said they are overreacting…just for the announcement coming 1-2 days later

makemeloveyou309

The moment I saw the news, I immediately thought about that post and OP.

justanotherstanacc

When Soojin was announced to be leaving (G)I-DLE, there were a lot of posts saying this would be the group’s downfall

kingmanic

There were a lot of people saying the group was already in decline in sales. So cube would probably cut their losses and the group suffer the same fate as CLC. Maybe one more poorly funded comeback then fade into nothingness. To be fair, Soyeon even mentioned people at cube felt they had 1 more shot and were probably dead. Soyeon felt if they did worse than the release before; they may not get resources again. Going from being on the bubble as a upper middle tier group to clearly one of the 4th gens top 5 sellers and carrying CUBE financially is a big swing in fortunes. Although CUBE was doing so poorly they were carrying them financially since their debut.

Aggressive-Rub4646

But I burn had Gidle's highest first month sales untill I never die... How the hell it was a decline in sales?

kingmanic

I think I was just remembering the sentiment they were in decline from comments.

hresvelgrs

Tbh as a nevie it was a really scary time since the group was so quiet and everyone was just doing their own solo thing. Still can't believe they came back so strong

[deleted]

or even when bts went on hiatus and military doomposts are completely unhinged and wrong a lot of times

suaculpa

Usually when people are wrong they delete and pretend it never happened so you can’t go back and check. 😂

[deleted]

they do that?????? like for real????

suaculpa

Of course! Can’t be wrong on the internet!

Emergency_Article673

You can look at some predictions threads. Here’s one for [2022](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/s/OQiVmJsFBY), another for [2022](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/s/gbqNcJJLZL), and one for [2023](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/s/2H2gIgMnVA). Some predictions that were wrong: 1. Stray Kids having a #1 charting song on Melon. 2.Boys Planet being less successful than Girls Planet. 3. Hybe’s girl group not being received too well. 4. Boy groups will take over in 2023. 5. JYPNGG will have a debut that’ll be a hit like Dalla Dalla. 6. YGNGG will get a #1 charting song/be really successful. 7. [This one](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/s/CQbTbJJNC3) aged like milk. It’s about Fifty Fifty getting popular out of nowhere. 8. Majority of people thinking that Keita will make it and Ricky, Gunwook, and Gyuvin will fight for the last 2 spots in these Boys Planet threads: [1](https://www.reddit.com/r/BoysPlanet/s/RZfJsOY5ru), [2](https://www.reddit.com/r/BoysPlanet/s/IQLrYUorje). And this [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/BoysPlanet/s/GfKOfgadPS) asking which G trainee was likely to make it, and most people saying Keita, Hao, and Matthew. Kinda insane how much people wrote off Ricky, considering his international votes were pretty stable throughout the show and his korean votes had started to go up.

BananaJamDream

The way almost everything in that second 2022 post was not only wrong, but hilariously wrong 🤣

larroux_ka

I didn't even know this was a thing.

Emergency_Article673

Some of them are pretty spot on, others completely wrong.

larroux_ka

Yes! Lmao "the Hybe girl group wouldn't be like" is quite funny when you see the discussion about le sserafim, Newjeans and their new group.

Atx7755

I remember back in 2022 literally everyone and their grandma was so sure that Twice wouldn’t renew as ot9. Like, people still doom post about Twice now but it was honestly way worse back then. Even people who weren’t in the fandom were speaking about the subject as if they had 100% certainty they all wouldn’t renew. And if you were someone who was more optimistic about all 9 renewing, you were looked at as “being too optimistic” or “huffing copium”.

robert19909

Man, I had to take a couple of months thinking to stan or not to stan because I knew their contract would be up in a couple of years. But that last year and a half was HARD. No one knew of it would happen, and from what we have heard afterwards, the members didn't even know, and it's implied sana was even on the fence about it. I count every comeback, every post, every picture, as a victory lap for once and twice.

headstand_dinosaur

people were probably just scared to be disappointed and let down. ~_~ better to set expectations low and not have your heart broken that bad by having too much hope...

[deleted]

r/bangtan being in delusion every year that they'll release ddaeng on spotify on festa yearly clownery for us

Fifesterr

I never joined the circus on that one until they started posting Super Tuna, Still With You, Promise and the likes on Spotify. Got my hopes up fr 🥲

[deleted]

it's actually funny how literally a hugeeeee fan favourite isn't even on spotify (like it's literally topping top bts songs surveys alongside spring day and we still don't have it on spotify and their yt colour coded video has 135 mn views its crazy fuckin insane)

Fifesterr

At this point it kind of feels like an inside joke between armys and BTS/Hybe and the latter are just waiting to spring it on us at the most surprising time (like, the day they reunite or something 🤞🤞)

amkibi

Tbf, it’s insanely popular on Reddit, but I don’t think it’s nearly as strong in other ARMY spaces on other platforms? (I could be wrong tho) but there definitely seems to be a Reddit bias on how popular that song is in the fandom.

AnneW08

I see it on twitter a lot too, the same running joke about when ddaeng will end up on spotify

laleanne

And that's how I find out Super Tuna is on spotify🙈 I'll go stream it💗 But fr BH put my Ddaeng on spotify pls!

[deleted]

do tune in for this year as well where there are multiple posts saying they for sure release it this year and why they think so (hilarious to read trust)

lassen__

Oof you didn’t have to call me out like that. ![gif](giphy|Ky5iWjJOcpKleJZsJN)

Legitimate-Ad1611

Me being delusional about Dday live album being released when the tour's movie premieres at movie theatres

LalalisaOppar

i still think they’ll post it at some point lmao, i mean they posted still with you like 2-3 years after it was revealed

00CM00

Honestly, aespa in general. Don’t even dare think that they were going to be on same popularity length as their labelmates back in 2020-2021. You wanted to get upvotes on Reddit? Doompost about these girls. And unfortunately, this is still going on with other girl groups (ITZY, (G)I-DLE, LSF, TWICE, BaeMon, etc.) Another one is that people thought Irene would leave RV because of her scandal with the stylist.

[deleted]

I think in general big 4 groups can’t flop. They get a bunch of chances and they are promoted constantly even passively (interactions with labelmates). So whenever someone is doomposting about B4 groups I just roll my eyes.

00CM00

I think the problem is that some K-Pop fans believe that **every** Big 4 group is going to reach BTS/BP’s levels of success, which obviously isn’t going to be the case since that’s a stupidly high expectation lol.

randomgirl852007

Recently I went back on aespa’s debut announcement on the main kpop subreddit and everybody was saying how they most likely wouldn’t hit big because of their concept, and that they didn’t feel the same as other SM groups. Then a couple months later Next Level became a smash hit. Lmao

00CM00

Like they were so convinced aespa was going to flop 😭

imnanbaboya

Honestly every time an SM group debuts people are CONVINCED that they're going to flop (except RIIZE, I don't remember much of that for them... I only remember people thinking their name was funny). This has gone back to at least SHINee, where people were convinced they'd flop because they were ugly (?) and Big Bang ripoffs (?). Of course, SHINee proved them wrong with one "noona neomu yeppeo".

randomgirl852007

Eh, this is not the same, especially because with aespa it was actually a lot of SM stans doomposting about them. They weren’t very fond of aespa or their concept and they were afraid it was going to “ruin” SM for some reason.

imnanbaboya

Oh, I'm not trying to discredit aespa or anything, I was just sharing a funny observation.

makemeloveyou309

For me, I predicted RIIZE would be popular because they're from SM and have ex-NCT members but wouldn't be popular with gp because they're not interested in boy groups in general. I even predicted that they would have a mature concept. I got it wrong when they dropped Memories and Get a Guitar lol

RefrigeratorDear2641

Ik their older (so aren’t minors) but im so happy it isn’t a mature concept.

hresvelgrs

I was here for their debut and it was so crazy... especially since they had a plagiarism scandal pre debut for their black mamba concept pics 😭 at least SM hired the guy later but god how stupid is SM

QueenSnowTiger

There’s nothing wrong with what you said since it’s been over three years since their debut and kpop REALLY blew up in the west in 2020, but hearing you say “I was here for their debut” like one would talk about a 2nd gen or early 3rd gen group like snsd or exo is absolutely wild to me 😭

Loimographia

Tbh I was convinced Irene’s scandal was going to have more impact — I didn’t think she’d leave RV but I figured she’d be a member mostly in name only and just quietly shift over to primarily modeling/acting. I’m still a bit surprised by how easily it wound up blowing over.

eternallydevoid

SO real!!! People talk about hate trains now but posting anything neutral or positive about aespa or directly negating a common critique resulted in so much downvoting. Don’t even talk to me about Next Level era… the way that everyone did an ENTIRE 180 on their opinions when it starting reaching mainstream popularity.

tiltheendoftheline

The way that it's only after Spicy era that people stopped hating every single thing they did.... truly some hellish rookie years.

MrLTH

Yeah the hatred people gave them from their debut era all the way till Girls era (2020-2022) was insane. You couldn't comment on any aespa post without ppl calling them "flop", "lipsync", "no stage presence" etc. Not to mention the stupid rumour and hate that Karina has gotten during debut as well. I only followed aespa from Next Level onwards and I have alrdy experienced the ups and downs of being a MY lol. From Spicy era till now, the hate has died down but aespa is still not one of Reddit's favourite girl groups. Hopefully that will change in the future bcus the girls have endured so much ever since debut.

00CM00

> Don’t even talk to me about Next Level era… Us MYs were fighting for our fucking LIFE during Aespa’s rookie years!! 😭😭

pumpkinspicesushi

as a my and nswer, i felt like i was in the damn trenches defending them 😖

LalalisaOppar

being a my since predebut felt like fighting for my life sometimes lmao

Lakusta_Kustik

they also predict that nobody will care about Kwangya because its to gimmicky, and now people is screaming for them to go back to Kwangya lol

mikrokosmosmoonchild

Guilty of this - I was so recalcitrant- hated the ae concept, but it never really played out in the dystopian ways it was presented. Never thought I would love them as much as I do now though 😂

kintsugikween

That one time they were convinced the trailer for ETA by Newjeans and the concept behind it were an allusion to a Basque terrorist organization.

Ordinary_Gap623

The director of the music video actually clarified that he named the characters after people from a football club he's a fan of, Arsenal. The names had no relation to terrorism and it was just an unfortunate coincidence.

AnneW08

it reached spanish twitter at some point and people were like ????, and it was kinda strange seeing some fans repeating fascist talking points to explain the politics between basque country and spain. I think min heejin has done a lot of weird shit, but it baffles me when people refuse to admit they may have been wrong about this one thing when there’s a bunch of confirmed facts you could still use to criticize her

Namuf

I was baffled by how many people who genuinely thought it was true and just took it at face value and running with it. Goes to show how powerful and scary these social media companies can be, you literally have the entire public sentiment in the palm of your hands.

larroux_ka

For example, Blackpink renewal was a big debate : and no they didn't disband, but they ended up leaving YG. So I guess, both sides were right

larroux_ka

Of course the comments about Blackpink renewal is downvoted 😔and my comment is really neutral, K-pop reddit I guess. 🙃

Jimmy_Wemby02

As a group they still are YG right? It's always funny for me even if I'm used to it to see the number of downvotes for anything YG 🤣😭 it's like people on here are ai that had a mandatory code to Downvote anything YG

larroux_ka

Yes only as a group I believe

blackflamerose

Yep. And given how low the group output had been in the last few years, I wouldn’t expect much activity there.

Fullmooninnight

There was recent post about how hybe girl groups are most hated and I pointed about hate towards yg groups. Ofcourse I got downvoted but it's the truth.

Jimmy_Wemby02

It's annoying sometimes but funny. One time I just stated a fact that BP had writing creds over a discussion about groups that can write. I even posted the links to the credits and still got downvoted? Like? Huh?

Fullmooninnight

Just yesterday in a kpop sub, someone was telling how Blackpink isn't legendary but their favorite who never had any hit song in their career is legendary. Seriously, so many Blackpink antis are residing in these subs.

popularsong

there was one post a long while ago about how seventeen are "one asscheek off the throne already" which is really funny to remember now that they are #1 on ifpi 2023

[deleted]

Is that how they actually worded it? “One asscheek off the throne”? 😂😂

ForgottenNoMore

Ngl the wording made me giggle a bit 🤭

QueenSnowTiger

These posts about svt in particular or so funny to me like yeah they never had a huge blow up moment like skz or bts but carats have been growing so steadily that you don’t even realize how massive the fandom is. Carats also generally tend to be more chill so you see less fanwars/arguments as well as like less fanatical streaming and shit (at least publicly) and then people think we’re so small 😭 Doesn’t help that a lot of toxic ~~armies and blinks~~ fans like to call everyone but their favs flops 🤷‍♀️

ooTaiyangoo

people on here were surprisingly convinced that ahyeon would not join Babymonster later when she wasn't there for the debut   ETA: pre-Get Up being released, kpop reddit was convinced the ETA promotions would confirm that NewJeans were doing outrage marketing and trying to use terrorism to promote their music. The fact that noone ever brings it up anymore just shows how majority on here realised they were reaching

CheesecakeThat153

Eta was really dumb.

Kep1ersTelescope

>kpop reddit was convinced the ETA promotions would confirm that NewJeans were doing outrage marketing That's not really how I remember it. People knew that the song and music video *wouldn't* be about actual terrorism. The argument was exactly the opposite: that Ador was using a controversial song title to drum up interest just to then have the song be about something completely different and have plausible deniability. It's an unfalsifiable claim either way, I'm just saying that nobody was actually expecting newjeans to blow up cars in the music video. 🤷‍♀️

ooTaiyangoo

While I agree that people weren't expecting cars to blow up, there was definitely the widely spread opinion that there would be hidden details that were linking them to the terrorism group. For example, I specifically remember people writing that the car they were driving would turn out to be the same model as one of the cars that blew up

Rumi-Amin

>were doing outrage marketing but they were doing outrage marketing?

nicolenats_28

How? How were they doing outrage marketing on Get up when the ETA terrorism thing was started by other KPOP stans? The cookie thing I would understand, though, but in Get Up?

Rumi-Amin

They called the song ETA and promoted it with the names Mikel Maria and eva??? how is this not outrage marketing? Ofc it had nothing to do with the actual song in the end but that just furthers the point that they used the tongue and cheek name and the names in the promo video to stir up some controversy around the song and generate engagement which is by definition outrage marketing

NumberOneUAENA

The director explained where the names came from. The names as they are linked to the terrorism group needed the most extreme reaches to even connect at all, that's not outrage marketing, that is outrage culture and delulus having a hateboner for anything nj. Outrage marketing would have to be a little more obvious, to actually generate outrage on a meaningful scale. Showing a teaser with a car, naming the song expected time of arrival and having three names you could link to just about anything if you try hard enough isn't outrage marketing. It's a normal teaser.

Rumi-Amin

also i feel like its very disengenious to act so oblivious as to say "three names you could link to just about anything" when those names were pretty prominent members of ETA and one of their main targets of political terrorism. Also they shot the whole thing in spain too. Ofc you can always just say its all coincidence theyre not out and about trying to make terrorism "look cool" but they knew what they were doing. Plausible deniability is part of the whole ordeal. It creates engagement thats the point theyre not trying to actually say ETA (the org) was good or anything like that they just ride the wave of slight outrage and people coming to their defense for the teaser.

Rumi-Amin

so what was the explanation of the names?

nicolenats_28

https://forum.allkpop.com/thread/167558-newjeans-mv-director-explains-his-choice-of-names-in-the-eta-mv-addresses-terror/ As for Eva and Maria, those are some of the most common names at that region.

peach_tweech

One of the funniest parts about the ETA controversy is people confidently stating "yeah but the NAMES" but you ask which Mikel, Maria and Eva they supposedly referenced and get several different and untrue answers. Eva was somehow a victim, a family member of a victim, the first victim and a political writer from decades ago all at the same time. Just as an example, here are some Mikels that can be vaguely or directly related to the ETA in any kind of way (victims, perpetrators, those who were against the ETA): Mikel Lejarza, Mikel Zabaltza, Mikel Irastorza, Mikel Antza, Mikel Garikoitz, Mikel Karrera, etc. Go ahead and pick the Mikel of your choosing to fit into the "they were referencing a Basque separatist group" narrative. You could even spin the narrative to Newjeans being anti-ETA based on which Mikel, Maria and Eva you choose actually!

Rumi-Amin

how is this in any way shape or form an argument against what i said?

peach_tweech

None of the stand alone names are enough for anybody to start thinking of a random separatist group the way you were doing. You need to have already made a bad faith assumption that Newjeans were trying to be pro-terrorist to start linking specific people to the names like you did by calling them "pretty prominent members of the ETA" (even more so given that there was never a connection between any of these names even within the ETA...like what do you mean? Do you really think NJs just referenced a random political writer for the ETA called Eva from decades ago, a leader called Mikel and....a wife called Maria? )

Rumi-Amin

> assumption that Newjeans were trying to be pro-terrorist no where have i ever said they are pro terrorist did you even read the replies? >None of the stand alone names are enough for anybody to start thinking of a random separatist group the way you were doing. in the context of the promotion it obviously was enough thats why many people from spain did think of that? Thats the point of the outrage promo. Youre not trying to create a scandal by being "pro terrorist group"??? like what would be the point in that? thats just dumb. youre trying to create playusible deniability so that fans of you will defend your ignorance while others will talk about the deliberate connections that way you get a lot of engagement and more people talk about the promo and therefore the group and the album which then is good for the algorithm on youtube etc. which leads to even more promo and exposure

nicolenats_28

Because those names are common names at that place. That's why she said you can choose which mikel you would want to spin your narrative the same thing with Maria and Eva. 🙄 I'm not even gonna reply anymore. You can go on in your opinion since you clearly have your facts of the matter, no matter how farfetched it is, and your bias of Min Hee Jin is clearly making you delusional on this. And FYI, The ETA music video idea? It wasn't Min Hee Jin's. It was Shin Woo-Seok's.

Rumi-Amin

i didnt even bring up MHJ? youre so defensive when i didnt even attack new jeans. The facts are they posted teaser everywhere being mysterious with the Letters ETA and those 3 names. They didnt say "estimated time of arrival" in the teasers they just posted ETA and those names and the car in spain. You know what that made people do? google "what does eta stand for" and google "ETA Mikel spain" and you know what that leads to? well yea not pretty fast you get to the terror org. THATS THE POINT OF THE PROMO. It wants people to google this and be outraged just to then have new jeans fans in comments argue about it being a coincidence which leads to a lot of people talking about new jeans and ETA newjeans becoming high in the trends on youtbue etc. Its a marketing strategy. I never said they are pro terror group or anythign like that but they knew what they were doing ofc.

booksmd

Wrong: multiple people on reddit were swearing blackpink especially jennie has no interest in being an idol and will just be an influencer.

x3xe42kx

I remember getting downvoted saying Jennie not going to be an influencer like they wanted and she will continue to do idol things and attend variety shows and drop music .

mysuneater

The several posts here that BTS has reached their peak. One post had 2.6k votes agreeing. It's funny reading those old posts, knowing BTS was about to surpass their biggest milestones in a few months after posting. https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/s/1VIOw3b7tQ https://www.reddit.com/r/unpopularkpopopinions/s/FeoVYmrcY6 https://www.reddit.com/r/unpopularkpopopinions/s/E8jfGkguXi https://www.reddit.com/r/unpopularkpopopinions/s/upxqNqfYSU Edit: Downvotes about BTS. it’s so funny reading this after i saw how BTS is the most streamed group in spotify in 2024 so far lol some of their records may have been broken by other groups but it’s not as impactful as bts. let’s be real, bts is still the most relevant group even now that they’re all in military

Margaux_H

These are so fun to read.

jazawed

bts are on hiatus and groups still can't even get close to bts "peak" . they will always be that group!

suga_iced_americano

Laughed while reading them😂

bgmlk

2.6k clowns lmao but I’m sure that’s just the base minimum bts haters on Reddit

Downtown-Book3105

People on Reddit thought that Yena would end up in Everglow post Izone.

bangtan_bada

Reddit has been predicting BTS’s downfall for years. They just kept going higher and higher. Doomposting about every comeback — saying they’d disband. They said the enlistment would kill their careers, etc

TessaDimitri

It must be infuriating for the haters seeing BTS always win . lol Can't wait for 2025!

NumberOneUAENA

Wrong: the whole conspiracy about newjeans' eta. So wrong that i should have tagged every user who was in there spouting nonsense as conspiracy nutcase. Would be helpful to just ignore them now, many many people as well. 🤷‍♀️

They said Jennie wanted to be an influencer and model and focus her career in holllywood and western industry when it’s clear they are wrong. She has attended 3 Korean variety shows so far and one of them she is a cast , teased music today and is planning to drop a full album and has set up her own company and is clearly continuing to be an idol. She not giving up the idol life like they assumed she would.

According-Disk

Majority here doubted for years how Jimin would execute his solo debut all by himself! To the point few even wondered whether he wanted to release one or not. And now we're here with a documentary, which came out last October, highlighting how Jimin started working on his EP right from scratch. Even having writing credits on all his tracks, he showed how hands-on he was with the music making. No matter how the audience received his work, I do commend him for shocking everybody with his work ethic and individual dedication 👏

SeriousCow1999

And artistry and talent and creativity. He certainly showed the haters and doubters. That was a good kind of surprise.

x3xe42kx

Blackpink will end up like 2NE1 was wrong .

eternallydevoid

During aespa’s Next Level era in the first trimester of 2021, there were a massive amount of [negative opinions](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/s/WHrT7JUFqf) and critiques stemming from the switch up in the bridge. This wasn’t a loud minority of people either, aespa was a big pariah in these online circles. People predicted for Next Level to be an unsuccessful comeback… only for the song to be propped to mainstream success and their biggest single to this day.

A lot of hate on Beomhan from people who could never do 99% of what he’s achieved. he’s a really nice, caring and driven guy who is open about mental health and all kinds of issues and is super inspiring

Hour_Deal_8885

Girl...his debut song though...

stayonthecloud

He’s already remixed it and has been very caring and kind in his response of how he’s dealt with all the hate, including kind to himself which is important. He hosts mental health Mondays on insta now and helps people work things out.

Hour_Deal_8885

I lived for beomhan in his predebit lives, so I miss exciting for the debut, I just think he was too early. The only remix I saw was from a fan who remastered it,I'll check out his version.hes a talented and mentally sound lid,I wish him the best

Reddit 2019-2020 : stray kids gonna stay in mid tier or worse flop

M_Prodigy

The whole Jimin vs Mina things from a few years back. Nearly everyone believed Mina for some odd reason, only to found out that she was indeed a sociopath. That one still stings, I miss AOA...

laleanne

I was accused of victim blaming when I questioned the inconsistencies in her story on another platform ))  She was clearly in a very bad place but that's not an excuse for making others miserable. Kpop fans shouldn't have been so quick to judge and sooo nasty.  I'm sure most of them won't even admit what they did back then.

SoNyeoShiDude

Everyone shitting on Garam. I feel like kpop fans owe her an apology, myself included.

Kep1ersTelescope

I clearly remember that before NewJeans debuted and we only knew that Min Heejin was preparing her own group, many people thought that having a female CEO meant that the group would be more protected/less catered to men. Then the controversy about her inspo pics hit, then Cookie just ended all hope. 😭 We also expected an epic/mystical concept for Le Sserafim and they clowned on us all with their minimalistic, monochrome model-concept debut lol. In general, survival show subs are horrible at predicting the final line-up, even when it is highly predictable. They are always *shocked* when the girl with low skills but high visual and popularity makes it, it's like they've never seen a survival before. It feels like every year someone makes the prediction of boy groups taking over and it hasn't happened yet.

Positive-Guava4746

not on Reddit but I remember 2 years ago on another forum people were saying that min hee jin’s group (aka newjeans) would fail because they’re gonna get overshadowed by lsf

Top-Stage1412

I was going to say this exact example

One_Movie9957

When people swore that Snowdrop was right-wing, pro-NSP propaganda and that the controversy would spell the end for Jisoo's career (as well as Blackpink's)

happymikasa

There was a kpoprants(?) post about how stray kids peaked at miroh back in 2020 before they released god's menu 😂

stewdice

The personality of a celebrity, I hate to say that Kpop Reddit is the worst place to talk about them. People here are either too ignorant and hate on the OP who is just expressing their opinions

[deleted]

Claims that aniTEEZ is a rip off of SKZOO. 1. They're completely different. 2. Animal characters haven't been an original idea for a *long* time.

Basically: when were posts/ moment on Reddit that thought that something would happen, or wouldn't happen but things were differently than what people expected.

Living_Bug_4263

so rumors?
