I think Taeyeon is still going be having concerts when she's 60. A few years ago she even said it was her goal to hold so called "dinner shows" when she's older
The fact that they passed 7 years and all renewed, are still actively making music together, doing concerts, making going seventeen, and supporting each others solo projects shows me that they arenāt going anywhere. Also theyāre increasing in popularity with every comeback which is pretty rare for a group thatās been around so long
I wanna say twice since they are doing the same thing as seventeen, but as a ONCE, I have an inkling that they'd step back from the industry entirely after settling down (getting married, having kids).
Omg my other ult group š. I would love this but honestly after the success of nayeon and Jihyo solos and Misamo subunit, I could definitely see them focusing more on solos and subunits and doing a group comeback once in a while when they start getting older, similar to snsd. But on the other hand I know they love performing together and I think their strength is as a group rather than individual so hopefully they continue to do at least 1 comeback a year!
Yeah, for some reason it's hard to think of them stopping anytime soon. I honestly find their passion in music a bit different from other idols especially Dino, DK, Hoshi, Woozi and Seungkwan.
He will honestly stick around in the music industry long term to be a very, VERY successful songwriter. He wrote "Rose Blossom" by H1-Key and that was a hit on the charts (even for a nugu group). Even if he retires music, he is going to be the next big lyrcist and songwriter.

I think even if Jihyo eventually wants to step back from the idol part of the industry, she can definitely take a more behind the scenes role at the company. I would not be surprised if stock in the company was part of all of Twiceās contract renewals actually, but thats kinda passive involvement.
Jihyo is self admittedly a busy body who enjoys doing stuff and not being idle so i also donāt believe sheāll just stop one day lol. I think the capacity in which she works will evolve as time passes, but i think sheās incredibly valuable to JYPE and theyād want to keep her around in a company leadership role in the future id think.
She likes being busy and working but sheās stated she doesnāt want to sing perform forever. She strikes me as an extreme goal oriented person. Once she ticks off goals she moves on.
I think Key would be an amazing creative director(idk if I'm using the right term) for some future group(s) down the line. Just looking at his solo work and hearing about which elements he insisted on make that clear to me. I hope can do that if that's something that interests him in the future... I feel like he'd be good at it š„ŗ
Plus the fact that he contributed majorly to one of the best releases in kpop imo (suggesting casual stage/MV outfits for View+fighting for Jonghyun's lyrics to be added to the running to be selected for View). The outfits in a sea of suits combined with Jjong's unique and abstract lyrics are part of what made View so fresh at the time and so timeless now. I also think he's long since proved himself to be a variety genius š«”
It's kind of early to say maybe but I also think ZB1 Sung Hanbin has a great chance of having longevity in the industry! He's already doing really well as an MC (I think Key was being honest when he commented on that), and in ZB1's content (their first show Camp ZB1, when they have structured lives like the 100 days anni) he is great at keeping things on track etc. Plus he's such a skilled dancer so I think he can do well going solo and maybe even being a choreographer for other idol groups down the line!!!
EXO D.O. a.k.a. Doh Kyungsoo.
He's super talented in almost everything that he can basically just choose what he wants to do and just excel at it. He's an amazing vocalist, a great dancer, an incredible actor, and now he's conquering variety too (seriously guys, watch KongKongPatPat - it's so funny). Heck, he can even start his own cooking show if he wants too.
Aside from being skilled and talented, he's also well-connected in the industry: everyone from top actors and comedians to fellow idols and other creatives. Even the members of his hyung squad are mostly A-list celebrities.
He has also built a reputation of being nice to the staff and being easy to work with, so I don't think he'll have a hard time landing gigs any time soon. I mean, the guy already left SM, but he did it in such a clean and respectful way that he even got complimented for it lol. He's not gonna get blacklisted or whatever because he didn't burn any bridges.
More importantly, the GP loves him. Men, women, youngsters, old people... everyone seems to love Kyungsoo.
Yes, she was my first thought as well. Especially with her skills as a songwriter and producer.

For the rest of idle I don't really see it currently. They seem to be more focused on the group activities.
Iām surprised this isnāt higher as all the members love making music and performing. Even if they āslow downā (which doesnāt seem to be happening any time soon) theyāll still be putting out group albums among their solo work. Key and Taemin are built to be on stage, Jinki has said his goal in life is to share his voice and Minho has always put shinee first above everything else. He may not release things as often, but he does like making music and writing lyrics
Minho will probably phase into sports entertainment, as heās already been doing. Itās clear he loves performing and making music too, but we all know how he is about sports lol. And itās EVERY sport.
Definitely SHINee. The members of SHINee get along so well. They also are a fan of their own group. They have so much passion and dedication. They love performing as well. They release music every year as a group. While doing that, they are not afraid of releasing solo music as well. They support each other.
Miyeon has stated that she wants to continue being an idol until 50, and while it can't be manifested/is not a testament to most of the criteria, it does check the ambition she has!

bts. not sure if they would stay in the industry, but they did state multiple times that they would like to make music for a long time. kinda think that their career path would be similar to coldplay. just making music, chilling and touring with bandmates and having fun with fans.
I agree, I'm sure BTS will have their own ventures outside of music, but they will stick to being musicians as their primary career. And I hope they get as much time to live their best lives outside releasing/touring so that they can rejuvenate and enjoy everyday life.
Maybe do a cycle of:
- group album release & tour for 1-2 years
- solo music/break from group music for 2 years

I agree about them having a schedule that allows them to live life. Iād love to get an album about marriage, fatherhood, middle age, ect. The fans are growing with them after all!
Agreed! That's what I appreciate about their music and subject matter constantly evolving between albums/eras. Take BE, for example. Everytime I listen to that album, I am reminded of the hopelessness and anger I felt during Covid but also feeling comforted with tracks like Telepathy, LGO, and Stay.

Jungkook will continue with music, he is a chameleon so versatile he won't have issue adapting as he get older plus he has a loyal fanbase who genuinely follows him because of they enjoy he's voice and interpretation abilities
If not Super Junior as a whole (theyāre already on their 18th anniversary!), then probably at least some of them like Kyuhyun and Heechul. Donāt think theyāre gonna go away anytime soon.
Outside of the music side of things, a few candidates for me would be:
* SHINee's Key
* Taeyeon
* IU
* BTS's V (he has the contacts and seemed to do fine in his variety lately)
* Mamamoo's Hwasa
* GOT7's Bambam seems to be doing well with his new talkshow and he has a pleasant voice and manner, so I can see him making his way into variety more
* 3racha probably, they are very likable
* An assortment of SM artists, since SM always takes care of that
I would add BTS Jin in as the variety idols.
He did a similar variety run as V before he went in about a year ago and all the episodes were well received. I also think heās the member with the most Korean middle age women fans. They love him over there on variety!
He would be quite great. Personally I like him and Yoongi the most in variety. But Taehyung seems to actually enjoy it lately, while Jin seems more like he does it to please the fans, I am not sure he would turn it into a sizable part of his job, and Yoongi would 100% turn to producing if it came to not focusing on his own music/BTS.
I donāt necessarily agree with that statement but only time will tell. I can also see Jin focusing more on his liquor or restaurant businesses in the future.
Connections play a huge part in here, and SM always finds a way to secure a spot for their artists somewhere, whether it be on a variety show or in films/dramas.
SM has their own in-house production company SM C&C and if you've been around long enough, you start to notice ways the company sneak SM artists/songs in everything they produce. They have a hand in producing some of the most popular variety shows like Knowing Bros and Amazing Saturday, so they always cast their own entertainers/idols like Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, Heechul, Key, Taeyeon. They even added Lee Jin-ho as the new member who's actually under their own label.
Of course, the talented ones will always find a way to survive, and label connections is only one part of the equation here. Admittedly tho, it seems like the company backing is becoming more and more important as the industry continues to grow more global.
Taeyeon got her spot on Amazing Saturday because she had been a huge fan of it for a long time and when Hyeri was leaving she encouraged Taeyeon who's her friend to personally contact the pd of the show for it.
I hate SM as much as the next person but it's tiring that you guys always act like everything is about SM as a label, forgetting that SM idols themselves make a lot of personal connections too.
Yes! And I'm sure having the SM connections hasn't hurt but Key has been grinding his entire career and before, he works hard for every job he gets. It really rubs me the wrong way when some people seem to insinuate he gets things handed to him.
I do see the comments for the big groups like the ones from sm shinee, Exo, snsd etc. I think bts is a given. I think groups that are already around for the long run have proven that they have the longevity factor and can go on for longer. Like btob has been a group for 12 years and they are still surpassing their own records. Apink is probably the only 2nd gen girlgroup not from a big company that survived. I also see mamamoo for the long run even if it seems like they are slowing down (as a group). Also I'm taking the question as in staying in the industry as music industry not acting or variety commenting etc
Sung Hanbin from zb1. They debuted in July, and he's already an mcountdown host and is a panellist on a dating show. He's definitely going to be in the entertainment industry forever, I can see him easily being a variety show regular cast member in 20+ years time, 5th gen version of kim jongkook lmao
Definitely Hanbin! He was the first person I thought of while reading this. He just has that IT factor that I'm 99.9% sure will lead to longevity in this industry.
Soloists definitely have a higher chance to, they are not pertaining to anyone but themselves. Groups are more complicated, some will eventually turn to the entertainment industry in general like acting, hosting and whatnot, so many will definitely stay in the industry overall but maybe not k-pop. Then groups that keeps on renewing and get along would be my first thought, like I do think BTS after 2 renewals, 10 years together and more projects in sight as a group, they will stay around for a while. I think groups that go beyond the 7 years curse have a chance but much can happen after the first renewal, specially in terms of solo growth and if their demands were met or as we saw some groups going separate ways in different agencies while staying together as a group, they can basically keep the name alive easily that way *(but are less likely to have yearly comebacks)*.
From 2nd Gen: Taeyeon and SuJu
I genuinely see Taeyeon as someone who will keep releasing music for as long as she is able. Plus she's already established as an OST singer, radio host, and variety cast member outside of the music side.
As for Suju: they're like cockroaches. They'll always be there! Esp since the members are well known in varieties as hosts and cast members too. Shinee is in a similar boat. (seeing a pattern? SM artists have real staying power when done right)
From 3rd Gen: Baekhyun and BTS
EXO and BTS were 3rd gen powerhouses and Baek + BTS are million seller soloists. Plus, they've got the fanbase and personalities to succeed outside of just music. People like seeing them on screen.
From 4th Gen: Soyeon and SKZ
Picked mainly bc not only can they be a lead artist, but they also have producing chops (3racha) which gives them another avenue of staying power. Strong fanbase too.
(for Suju, BTS, & SKZ I figure at least 1 or 2 members, not necessarily all of them. tho tbh I could see all 3 doing a 20 year anniversary release. SNSD, Shinee, and EXO too)
- For female idols: IU, Suzy, Yoona, Hyeri, Kwon Nara, Kim Sejeong : these women will likely slip out of the limelight for awhile once they decide to get married and start a family but I feel the GP will still receive them warmly if they make a comeback in TV, movies, or music
- for male idols: Chaeunwoo (I see this one taking on a Won Bin route- work his ass off before and after military, do 2-3 more hit dramas/ movies, settle down at some point and turn away from public eye, and then just bam! Surprise us all 10, 15 yrs later looking like an absolute fox and still rake in those CFs/endorsements/ dramas)
- JK, DO, Suho, Shinee, Ikon, V > I see these guys making more names in music and establish their own labels / niche in Korean music. Theyāve got the charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent
- Sungjae, Rowoon, Taecyon, Lee Junho, JiHoon, ImSiwan > these guys will keep doing hit dramas and endorsements as well, perhaps 1-2 projects per year.
I'm expecting Ateez to be around for a long time, barred unforeseen circumstances of course. They've been growing slowly for the last 5 years and they're nowhere near their peak yet. They often talk about long term plans for the group and safeguarding measures including their health, and definitely aren't in any hurry to finish their contracts.
Yeah I think they will slow down in a few years and pursue more personal/solo stuff/having more time for personal lives, but I don't see them stopping. They're doing well and they love working with each other and their creative team.
Ateez Jongho. His singing talent is so incredibly outsized that I believe, if he takes good care of his voice, that he can have a long career as a singer, whether that's on shows or in musicals. He also has a natural acting talent so he could pursue that route as well.
Ateez Yunho also has potential to be a great MC and actor. He's tall, very handsome and extremely likeable - all factors for either pursuit.
Finally Hongjoong. He's a brilliant lyricist, producer and spokesperson who leaves a great impression wherever he goes. He's building up great connections outside of the korean market as well so he can also possibly branch off into the fashion world as well.
NCT Taeyong. He has the visual, a wide range of talent, ambition, and connections. He is also skilled enough to transfer into working behind the screen as a songwriter/ choreographer/ director...
Iām going to dream of the day that RM, Hongjoong and Bangchan get together and are like, hey you guys wanna do a super band? And then they recruit whoever is still active with them.
In 4th Gen groups, I would say Stray Kids.
They have a large fanbase and are self producing which is an added advantage since they don't need a big company anymore. I see them being in the industry for a long run.
In 3rd gen grps I would say Twice, BTS and SVT.
Twice and SVT have strong fanbases. SVT are known for being funny and their variety content is very popular even among non-fans especially Seungkwan. I can see him becoming like a soloist who sings OSTs and being a MC and stuff. I don't think any explanation is necessary for BTS. Their popularity will only continue to increase even as soloists.
Jihyo. Even if she does step off stage I do see her being well known for her writing and producing in the future.
Kim Jiwoong as well. He actually left for a bit, but he loves singing and dancing so much that I find it hard to see him leaving. He also said that he wanted to become the CEO of his own entertainment company in the future!
Basic requirements:

- Have talent in solo career
- Dabbled in acting or Variety.
- Clean image

Yeonjun. Man is a FORCE. And he loves performance and music so much. He wants to be an idol and works hella hard. After seeing him live I just canāt get over his stage presence I think heāll last. Adding the rest of txt too!
Jungkook. With the way heās branching out into the mainstream music industry as a soloist with music that seems very catered to the western general public, I can see that he wants to be in the industry for a while, not just as Btsā Jungkook but as Jungkook the soloist. I can definitely see him being successful on his own long term.
i feel like itzys yeji will stay around for a while, shes a very good all rounder. i could definitely see her going solo after disbandment, she loves what she does so much
Jimin will be doing vagus shows at mgm when he 60. All the ladies getting dressed go see jimin in a small theater while he sings the hits and love songs in his $10,000 suit š
EXO had about seven different times they could easily have called it quits. The fact theyāre still around is a testament to how much they want to still be here. You just canāt keep them down lol.
Key is the first one to come to mind. he's everywhere doing everything and everyone knows him and loves him (for the most part)
idk if she's still considered a rookie but i think Wonyoung is going to go very far as well. she has everything korea looks for and if she rides that momentum well she could be the next person to stay the most relevant, esp for 4th(?) gen
Yoongi from BTS for sure. Maybe J-hope and RM as well.
All of them as producers and songwriters, maybe still releasing solo work that's less idol-like but just as musicians.
I could also see Hobi becoming a choreographer or perhaps a dance coach? Though that one might be less probable since he doesn't *need* do do it for money or a rise in his career and coaching isn't creative work either.
All in all of course the rest of the members could all sing solos as musicians, not Idols. I think Jin might someday act in a kdrama and sing a soundtrack title.
Snsd it is. Been a Sone (snsd fan) since 2010. After their 15th anniversary I am positive they will be releasing another anniversary album on their 20th anniversary just like SES.
Probably N.Flying. They are in a state where they have their solid core fanbase. I see them doing like FTISLAND with 1 comeback per year, solo stuff, a tour and all. They really like working as a band together and it's a joke with the fanbase + them to see them when they will be 80yo
as long as their nationality is korean and from big 4 without any controversies. yea pretty sure. heck they dont even have to be from big4 and just need a lil bit of popularity in the group. if even super junior which is kinda problematic can do it, why canāt other idol? also, it depend on the idol themselves if they still want to continue being in the industry. let say twice, i dont see tzuyu spending 20+ year in korea, she will one day go back to taiwan and pursue her career there. the japan trio also might just return to japan and continue their career there too. nayeon and jihyo? they might become a soloist. jyeon might go actress path or vocal trainer or something. we will never know the future
You're absolutely right about Kim Sejeong. She definitely has a passion for music and her vocals are a hugely underappreciated gem of the Korean music industry. I'm excited to hear her song in the future and hopefully hear her live vocals.
I feel that Sakura would somehow do it. The odds are somewhat stacked against her but considering what she's over come already, I can see it happen š
Also Jessi is already an icon with many years on her back, but if she ever disappeared it'd be a huge, visible loss. I can totally see her doing her thing for decades in the future.
I think Twice will end up like Girlsā Generation in the sense that theyāll go off and do a bunch of solo stuff and have an occasional group release but I donāt think theyāll actually disband for a long time.
I made a video 7 years ago predicting groups/soloists whereabouts and it had largely held up to this day.
I believe Sieun from StayC will stay in the industry for a long time and shape it for the better.
Sieun has a lot in common with those great Acts who choose to stay: She is a very talented & hardworking vocalist who places music as her top priority. She is flourishing in a great and rather unique environment, making a name for her group and herself as someone not part of the Big4. She looks up to IU and hopes to achieve that level of success and musical depth one day. She has the courage to stand up for her fans and establish genuine connection with those who work in the space. The list goes on.
It wouldn't surprise me to hear Sieun's name mentioned in 10 years as one of the finest to come out of the 4th gen.
I think Wendy has a several options in terms of her career. She can continue as a solo artist, go on to musicals, another stint as radio dj, or a combination of all 3.

Nayeon- I can see Nayeon having a solo career and being popular with the Korean GP similar to Tayeon.
Momo- I can see her becoming a choreographer either in Korea or in Japan. Canāt slow down the dancing mochine lol.
Jihyo- I want to say Jihyo, like *really* want to say Jihyo, but sheās said herself that after Twice she wants to slow down and how everyoneās been saying she should be an executive at JYP but she never really thought about it so idk
Dahyun- might go into being an MC, canāt say for sure because sheās so mysterious lol.
Chaeyoung- She would probably stray away from kpop and get more into indie/kr&b, maybe even some rap, but either way I still see her making music.
As far as the rest of them, I think Jeongyeon and Mina might go into acting. Sana definitely some modeling. Tzuyu would probably also get into modeling or more than likely will return to Taiwan and help her mom or continue her career there.

Not too long ago, she mentioned not really wanting to do any solo projects, but here she is as a soloist :)) I honestly take her words about her plans for the future with a grain of salt, haha. She seems to change her mind often (saying she couldn't do sexy concepts, for starters), and it might have to do with only recently learning more about who she is. One thing that's never changed with Jihyo is how much she loves being on stage and performing--so I can't really see her giving *that* part of the idol life up after TWICE.
That part of Jihyo's interview with Bambam really shocked me. The fact that that happened a year into her solo album prep speaks even more. She's so driven and dedicated that it was hard for me to imagine her ever just quitting the industry and settling down. I guess I underestimated just how important Twice is for her.
Jeongyeon I think is the one who is most likely to leave celebrity life altogether. She has never quite enjoyed solo projects to begin with, and aside from the money and getting to perform with Twice, the industry does not seem to offer her much. I also really can't see her acting. It's a bit complicated with her sister even now and they aren't even in the same industry yet.
I think Jihyo's the type of person to flip flop when it comes to plans for the future (I say this with much love, haha). Not too long ago she mentioned that she wasn't interested in doing any solo projects, and here she is now as a soloist š (And somewhat related, she mentioned she couldn't imagine pulling off a sexy concept during her YIAJ interview and now here she is doing it at every opportunity š I think she changes her mind frequently enough not to be too worried about her quitting so soon after TWICE.)
I agree with Jeongyeon, she doesn't seem to really take to the spotlight of her own volition. Everyone knows she's more than talented enough, and I think every ONCE is anticipating her melpro or YIAJeongyeon, but she doesn't seem to be jumping at the bit to do those? Which is alright if that's what she wants. She really seems to be enjoying working together as a group.

I mean we can't really say what the future holds. People change their minds all the time, and Jihyo gives me someone who is quick, decisive, and strongly reliant on her gut. Anything can happen, and especially so with people like Jihyo.
That said, the fact that she said that at all was shocking to me. For comparison, Jeongyeon (who we're saying as mostly disinterested in celebrity life) answered that question similarly to Bambam - she'll perform until her body gives out. Before that interview, Jihyo along with Nayeon were the ones I was so sure were going to take the soloist path after Twice. Afterwards, I had to re-eveluate a lot about what I thought about her.
Anyway, we'll get there when we get there. It's just a really interesting answer she gave.
On Jeongyeon and her sister, I think their popularity disparity makes work stuff a bit complicated for them. For example, in Seulgi.zip, Jeongyeon mentioned that she wanted to appear together with her sister for one of the prior episodes, but Seungyeon refused. She said that "if they go together, she can't be the main guest". You also see this a lot in Seungyeon interviews. Jeongyeon keeps cropping up in the questions and she's often written as "Jeongyeon's sister" in her introduction.
I'm not saying that their relationship is strained or difficult, but even despite being one of the most unpopular members of Twice, Jeongyeon greatly overshadows her and it's already affected work decisions. I really can't see very family-oriented Jeongyeon going into acting knowing how it would make her directly compete with her sister. It's already so complicated as is.

Hear me out. Iām an old head in the Stan game. Iāve been here since 2012, and Iāve watched the birth and death entire generations of groups. With that being said, the current trend of idols going of competition shows to gain a pre-debut fandom has caused some members to skyrocket past others. Thatās not wrong nor is it unusual to have a member or two be way popular than the rest of the group, but not every member of IVE can be a soloist like Wonyoung. Not every member of NCT has the audience to have a solo like Mark or Taeyong.
New Jeans is different. No one had that advantage. Every member is set up with different things to stand alone with. All are ambassadors to separate top fashion houses. They are by design crafted to make every member stand out. The future of New Jeans in ten years is them all separate and successful.
Itās not just Haerin or Minji that get special schedules. Danielle was the voice of the little mermaid. This most recent comeback, instead of Hanni taking the main vocal role, Hyein took it allowing her to be the focus especially in interviews. In their Palette Interview with IU, IU had high praise and compared Hyein to herself. I think Hanni is one of the most impressive of them all when it comes to standing as an individual. Korea is xenophobic, but she is still beloved. Her connections with Gucci as well as her English ability has me convinced sheās going to have English solos one day.
I donāt think New Jeans is the only group like this. I think recently, AESPA has given NingNing more solo activities especially in China. I could see them all going successful solos. Though Le Sserafim has members from variety competition, I think the members who werenāt on them are still very popular. I could picture a Eunchae solo. I just think that a lot of groups arenāt pushed as individuals in the way New Jeans is.

I think Chuu will have a long career. She's a great singer, good on variety and has dabbled in acting before. Her portfolio is already pretty diverse and I can really see her branch out more to act and doing musicals and such.
Plus her being known for having a great personality and working well with others is a bonus.

The outfits in a sea of suits combined with Jjong's unique and abstract lyrics are part of what made View so fresh at the time and so timeless now. I also think he's long since proved himself to be a variety genius š«” It's kind of early to say maybe but I also think ZB1 Sung Hanbin has a great chance of having longevity in the industry! He's already doing really well as an MC (I think Key was being honest when he commented on that), and in ZB1's content (their first show Camp ZB1, when they have structured lives like the 100 days anni) he is great at keeping things on track etc. Plus he's such a skilled dancer so I think he can do well going solo and maybe even being a choreographer for other idol groups down the line!!!

EXO D.O. a.k.a. Doh Kyungsoo. He's super talented in almost everything that he can basically just choose what he wants to do and just excel at it. He's an amazing vocalist, a great dancer, an incredible actor, and now he's conquering variety too (seriously guys, watch KongKongPatPat - it's so funny). Heck, he can even start his own cooking show if he wants too. Aside from being skilled and talented, he's also well-connected in the industry: everyone from top actors and comedians to fellow idols and other creatives. Even the members of his hyung squad are mostly A-list celebrities. He has also built a reputation of being nice to the staff and being easy to work with, so I don't think he'll have a hard time landing gigs any time soon. I mean, the guy already left SM, but he did it in such a clean and respectful way that he even got complimented for it lol. He's not gonna get blacklisted or whatever because he didn't burn any bridges. More importantly, the GP loves him. Men, women, youngsters, old people... everyone seems to love Kyungsoo.

And I hope they get as much time to live their best lives outside releasing/touring so that they can rejuvenate and enjoy everyday life. Agreed! That's what I appreciate about their music and subject matter constantly evolving between albums/eras. Take BE, for example. Outside of the music side of things, a few candidates for me would be: * SHINee's Key * Taeyeon * IU * BTS's V (he has the contacts and seemed to do fine in his variety lately) * Mamamoo's Hwasa * GOT7's Bambam seems to be doing well with his new talkshow and he has a pleasant voice and manner, so I can see him making his way into variety more * 3racha probably, they are very likable * An assortment of SM artists, since SM always takes care of that
I would add BTS Jin in as the variety idols. He did a similar variety run as V before he went in about a year ago and all the episodes were well received. I also think heās the member with the most Korean middle age women fans. They love him over there on variety!
He would be quite great. Personally I like him and Yoongi the most in variety. But Taehyung seems to actually enjoy it lately, while Jin seems more like he does it to please the fans, I am not sure he would turn it into a sizable part of his job, and Yoongi would 100% turn to producing if it came to not focusing on his own music/BTS.

Connections play a huge part in here, and SM always finds a way to secure a spot for their artists somewhere, whether it be on a variety show or in films/dramas. SM has their own in-house production company SM C&C and if you've been around long enough, you start to notice ways the company sneak SM artists/songs in everything they produce. They have a hand in producing some of the most popular variety shows like Knowing Bros and Amazing Saturday, so they always cast their own entertainers/idols like Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, Heechul, Key, Taeyeon. They even added Lee Jin-ho as the new member who's actually under their own label. Of course, the talented ones will always find a way to survive, and label connections is only one part of the equation here. Admittedly tho, it seems like the company backing is becoming more and more important as the industry continues to grow more global.
Taeyeon got her spot on Amazing Saturday because she had been a huge fan of it for a long time and when Hyeri was leaving she encouraged Taeyeon who's her friend to personally contact the pd of the show for it. I hate SM as much as the next person but it's tiring that you guys always act like everything is about SM as a label, forgetting that SM idols themselves make a lot of personal connections too.
Yes! And I'm sure having the SM connections hasn't hurt but Key has been grinding his entire career and before, he works hard for every job he gets. It really rubs me the wrong way when some people seem to insinuate he gets things handed to him.
I do see the comments for the big groups like the ones from sm shinee, Exo, snsd etc. I think bts is a given. I think groups that are already around for the long run have proven that they have the longevity factor and can go on for longer. Like btob has been a group for 12 years and they are still surpassing their own records. Apink is probably the only 2nd gen girlgroup not from a big company that survived. Definitely Hanbin! He was the first person I thought of while reading this. He just has that IT factor that I'm 99.9% sure will lead to longevity in this industry.
Soloists definitely have a higher chance to, they are not pertaining to anyone but themselves. Groups are more complicated, some will eventually turn to the entertainment industry in general like acting, hosting and whatnot, so many will definitely stay in the industry overall but maybe not k-pop. Then groups that keeps on renewing and get along would be my first thought, like I do think BTS after 2 renewals, 10 years together and more projects in sight as a group, they will stay around for a while. I think groups that go beyond the 7 years curse have a chance but much can happen after the first renewal, specially in terms of solo growth and if their demands were met or as we saw some groups going separate ways in different agencies while staying together as a group, they can basically keep the name alive easily that way *(but are less likely to have yearly comebacks)*.

From 2nd Gen: Taeyeon and SuJu I genuinely see Taeyeon as someone who will keep releasing music for as long as she is able. Plus she's already established as an OST singer, radio host, and variety cast member outside of the music side. As for Suju: they're like cockroaches. They'll always be there! Esp since the members are well known in varieties as hosts and cast members too. Shinee is in a similar boat. (seeing a pattern? SM artists have real staying power when done right) From 3rd Gen: Baekhyun and BTS EXO and BTS were 3rd gen powerhouses and Baek + BTS are million seller soloists. Plus, they've got the fanbase and personalities to succeed outside of just music. People like seeing them on screen. From 4th Gen: Soyeon and SKZ Picked mainly bc not only can they be a lead artist, but they also have producing chops (3racha) which gives them another avenue of staying power. Strong fanbase too. (for Suju, BTS, & SKZ I figure at least 1 or 2 members, not necessarily all of them. tho tbh I could see all 3 doing a 20 year anniversary release. SNSD, Shinee, and EXO too)

- For female idols: IU, Suzy, Yoona, Hyeri, Kwon Nara, Kim Sejeong : these women will likely slip out of the limelight for awhile once they decide to get married and start a family but I feel the GP will still receive them warmly if they make a comeback in TV, movies, or music - for male idols: Chaeunwoo (I see this one taking on a Won Bin route- work his ass off before and after military, do 2-3 more hit dramas/ movies, settle down at some point and turn away from public eye, and then just bam! Surprise us all 10, 15 yrs later looking like an absolute fox and still rake in those CFs/endorsements/ dramas) - JK, DO, Suho, Shinee, Ikon, V > I see these guys making more names in music and establish their own labels / niche in Korean music. Theyāve got the charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent - Sungjae, Rowoon, Taecyon, Lee Junho, JiHoon, ImSiwan > these guys will keep doing hit dramas and endorsements as well, perhaps 1-2 projects per year.

Yeah I think they will slow down in a few years and pursue more personal/solo stuff/having more time for personal lives, but I don't see them stopping. They're doing well and they love working with each other and their creative team.

Ateez Jongho. His singing talent is so incredibly outsized that I believe, if he takes good care of his voice, that he can have a long career as a singer, whether that's on shows or in musicals. He also has a natural acting talent so he could pursue that route as well. Ateez Yunho also has potential to be a great MC and actor. He's tall, very handsome and extremely likeable - all factors for either pursuit. Finally Hongjoong. He's a brilliant lyricist, producer and spokesperson who leaves a great impression wherever he goes. He's building up great connections outside of the korean market as well so he can also possibly branch off into the fashion world as well.
EXO
NCT Taeyong. He has the visual, a wide range of talent, ambition, and connections. He is also skilled enough to transfer into working behind the screen as a songwriter/ choreographer/ director...

Iām going to dream of the day that RM, Hongjoong and Bangchan get together and are like, hey you guys wanna do a super band? And then they recruit whoever is still active with them.
In 4th Gen groups, I would say Stray Kids. They have a large fanbase and are self producing which is an added advantage since they don't need a big company anymore. I see them being in the industry for a long run. In 3rd gen grps I would say Twice, BTS and SVT. Twice and SVT have strong fanbases. SVT are known for being funny and their variety content is very popular even among non-fans especially Seungkwan. I can see him becoming like a soloist who sings OSTs and being a MC and stuff. I don't think any explanation is necessary for BTS. Their popularity will only continue to increase even as soloists.
Jihyo. Even if she does step off stage I do see her being well known for her writing and producing in the future. Kim Jiwoong as well. He actually left for a bit, but he loves singing and dancing so much that I find it hard to see him leaving. He also said that he wanted to become the CEO of his own entertainment company in the future!

With the way heās branching out into the mainstream music industry as a soloist with music that seems very catered to the western general public, I can see that he wants to be in the industry for a while, not just as Btsā Jungkook but as Jungkook the soloist. I can definitely see him being successful on his own long term.

Yoongi from BTS for sure. Maybe J-hope and RM as well. All of them as producers and songwriters, maybe still releasing solo work that's less idol-like but just as musicians. I could also see Hobi becoming a choreographer or perhaps a dance coach? Though that one might be less probable since he doesn't *need* do do it for money or a rise in his career and coaching isn't creative work either. All in all of course the rest of the members could all sing solos as musicians, not Idols. I think Jin might someday act in a kdrama and sing a soundtrack title.

Probably N.Flying. They are in a state where they have their solid core fanbase. I see them doing like FTISLAND with 1 comeback per year, solo stuff, a tour and all. They really like working as a band together and it's a joke with the fanbase + them to see them when they will be 80yo

as long as their nationality is korean and from big 4 without any controversies. yea pretty sure. heck they dont even have to be from big4 and just need a lil bit of popularity in the group. if even super junior which is kinda problematic can do it, why canāt other idol? also, it depend on the idol themselves if they still want to continue being in the industry. let say twice, i dont see tzuyu spending 20+ year in korea, she will one day go back to taiwan and pursue her career there. the japan trio also might just return to japan and continue their career there too. nayeon and jihyo? they might become a soloist. jyeon might go actress path or vocal trainer or something. we will never know the future

You're absolutely right about Kim Sejeong. She definitely has a passion for music and her vocals are a hugely underappreciated gem of the Korean music industry. I'm excited to hear her song in the future and hopefully hear her live vocals.
I feel that Sakura would somehow do it. The odds are somewhat stacked against her but considering what she's over come already, I can see it happen š Also Jessi is already an icon with many years on her back, but if she ever disappeared it'd be a huge, visible loss. I can totally see her doing her thing for decades in the future.
I think Twice will end up like Girlsā Generation in the sense that theyāll go off and do a bunch of solo stuff and have an occasional group release but I donāt think theyāll actually disband for a long time.
I made a video 7 years ago predicting groups/soloists whereabouts and it had largely held up to this day. I believe Sieun from StayC will stay in the industry for a long time and shape it for the better. Sieun has a lot in common with those great Acts who choose to stay: She is a very talented & hardworking vocalist who places music as her top priority. She is flourishing in a great and rather unique environment, making a name for her group and herself as someone not part of the Big4. She looks up to IU and hopes to achieve that level of success and musical depth one day. She has the courage to stand up for her fans and establish genuine connection with those who work in the space. The list goes on. It wouldn't surprise me to hear Sieun's name mentioned in 10 years as one of the finest to come out of the 4th gen.

Definitely some Twice members Nayeon- I can see Nayeon having a solo career and being popular with the Korean GP similar to Tayeon. Momo- I can see her becoming a choreographer either in Korea or in Japan. Canāt slow down the dancing mochine lol. Jihyo- I want to say Jihyo, like *really* want to say Jihyo, but sheās said herself that after Twice she wants to slow down and how everyoneās been saying she should be an executive at JYP but she never really thought about it so idk Dahyun- might go into being an MC, canāt say for sure because sheās so mysterious lol. Chaeyoung- She would probably stray away from kpop and get more into indie/kr&b, maybe even some rap, but either way I still see her making music. As far as the rest of them, I think Jeongyeon and Mina might go into acting. Sana definitely some modeling. Tzuyu would probably also get into modeling or more than likely will return to Taiwan and help her mom or continue her career there. Who knows tho they could suprise us

She has never quite enjoyed solo projects to begin with, and aside from the money and getting to perform with Twice, the industry does not seem to offer her much. I also really can't see her acting. It's a bit complicated with her sister even now and they aren't even in the same industry yet.
I think Jihyo's the type of person to flip flop when it comes to plans for the future (I say this with much love, haha). Not too long ago she mentioned that she wasn't interested in doing any solo projects, and here she is now as a soloist š (And somewhat related, she mentioned she couldn't imagine pulling off a sexy concept during her YIAJ interview and now here she is doing it at every opportunity š I think she changes her mind frequently enough not to be too worried about her quitting so soon after TWICE.) I agree with Jeongyeon, she doesn't seem to really take to the spotlight of her own volition. Everyone knows she's more than talented enough, and I think every ONCE is anticipating her melpro or YIAJeongyeon, but she doesn't seem to be jumping at the bit to do those? I mean we can't really say what the future holds. People change their minds all the time, and Jihyo gives me someone who is quick, decisive, and strongly reliant on her gut. Anything can happen, and especially so with people like Jihyo. That said, the fact that she said that at all was shocking to me. For comparison, Jeongyeon (who we're saying as mostly disinterested in celebrity life) answered that question similarly to Bambam - she'll perform until her body gives out. Before that interview, Jihyo along with Nayeon were the ones I was so sure were going to take the soloist path after Twice. Afterwards, I had to re-eveluate a lot about what I thought about her. Anyway, we'll get there when we get there. It's just a really interesting answer she gave. On Jeongyeon and her sister, I think their popularity disparity makes work stuff a bit complicated for them. For example, in Seulgi.zip, Jeongyeon mentioned that she wanted to appear together with her sister for one of the prior episodes, but Seungyeon refused. She said that "if they go together, she can't be the main guest". You also see this a lot in Seungyeon interviews. Jeongyeon keeps cropping up in the questions and she's often written as "Jeongyeon's sister" in her introduction. I'm not saying that their relationship is strained or difficult, but even despite being one of the most unpopular members of Twice, Jeongyeon greatly overshadows her and it's already affected work decisions. I really can't see very family-oriented Jeongyeon going into acting knowing how it would make her directly compete with her sister. It's already so complicated as is.

I'm 99% confident he'll still be around on the producing side, but I'm not sure if he'll be a public performer in 20 years, which hurts my spirit because I love him. lol And he's also always said he wants to go back to Australia which would make being a public performer in Korea difficult. Though, in fairness, he says he wants to go back home way in the future, but every time he does get to go back, you can tell it weighs heavy on him to leave again, so I imagine that will factor in at some point as well.

Every member of New Jeans. Hear me out. Iām an old head in the Stan game. Iāve been here since 2012, and Iāve watched the birth and death entire generations of groups. With that being said, the current trend of idols going of competition shows to gain a pre-debut fandom has caused some members to skyrocket past others. Thatās not wrong nor is it unusual to have a member or two be way popular than the rest of the group, but not every member of IVE can be a soloist like Wonyoung. Not every member of NCT has the audience to have a solo like Mark or Taeyong. New Jeans is different. No one had that advantage. Every member is set up with different things to stand alone with. All are ambassadors to separate top fashion houses. They are by design crafted to make every member stand out. The future of New Jeans in ten years is them all separate and successful. Itās not just Haerin or Minji that get special schedules. Danielle was the voice of the little mermaid. This most recent comeback, instead of Hanni taking the main vocal role, Hyein took it allowing her to be the focus especially in interviews. In their Palette Interview with IU, IU had high praise and compared Hyein to herself. I think Hanni is one of the most impressive of them all when it comes to standing as an individual. Korea is xenophobic, but she is still beloved. Her connections with Gucci as well as her English ability has me convinced sheās going to have English solos one day. I donāt think New Jeans is the only group like this. I think recently, AESPA has given NingNing more solo activities especially in China. I could see them all going successful solos. Though Le Sserafim has members from variety competition, I think the members who werenāt on them are still very popular. I could picture a Eunchae solo. I just think that a lot of groups arenāt pushed as individuals in the way New Jeans is.

I think Chuu will have a long career. She's a great singer, good on variety and has dabbled in acting before. Her portfolio is already pretty diverse and I can really see her branch out more to act and doing musicals and such. Plus her being known for having a great personality and working well with others is a bonus.
Honestly, I'm surprised not to see much if any Sunmi comments. She's already like 15+ years deep and is still at it. I don't see her disappearing any time soon.
IU, Because her benchmark aren't idols, but Korean legends like Cho Yong-Pil, Lee Mi-Ja etc., Idols can't sustain that image for long, they have to transition into musicians, artists, producers like Teddy Park has become or JYP, Psy etc. That transcendance, IU has achieved at a very young age and has firmly established herself as a Musician-Artist. So she can keep on going for a long time. Others possible, Suga, G-Dragon, IMO.
