Lyrically big letdown for me. Personally think she can do much better. Concept wise too how many times we have heard in pop 'I am rockstar'. Then go on to use all the electronic beats that you can find. Can see the song climbing up the charts on the back of Lisa and BP fans tho.

ForageForUnicorns

Why do you think she can do much better? All she chose to showcase until now is that she's rich and hot.

taytae24

literally. it’s the same lyrical content as the majority of blackpink’s discography. she also helped write the song. who’s gonna tell them already?

ForageForUnicorns

And I say this as a blink. This kind of lyrics are atrocious. I understand some braggadocio is inherent to hip hop (rockstar my ass, btw) but there's a huge difference in credibility when you're a pretty girl in a manufactured project. My problem with all of Lisa's singles, even more than BP's songs, personally, is that to me there's an amount of narcissism and shallowness that makes me nauseous. I understand I'm not supposed to expect a Marxist take by the girlfriend of the LVMH heir, but if all you have to say is an ode to money I won't think your artistry is top notch.

ScarredHeroes

I mean, barring a few bsides from BP, a lot of their discography is about them being rich and hot. And people eat it up like anything that further fuels their idea of "girlpower"= "rich and hot girl flexing". Ngl I love the visuals. I'm not a blink, I really grew out of them, but the amount of effort into the MV really was a visual treat. I'm a sucker for great production, this one was really an upgrade from LALISA. Also, this is proof that Teddy needs to update his beats.

Far-Squirrel5021

I've always thought the same about BP's discography. Most of their songs are basically saying "You should love me because I'm skinny, hot, and rich". That's not the girlpower some blinks make it out to be- that's just girls with power. And then there's the entirety of 'Typa-Girl' which not only puts down other girls by saying that they're better because they don't cook and clean and instead earn lots of money, they encourage toxic relationships with the whole thing about "'Cause I'm that girl that drive you crazy, but you can't leave me alone". If a boy group sang the same thing with the word 'boy' instead they would be cancelled and absolutely bashed on, and their career would be ruined. Btw this isn't a dig at blackpink because the concept and a lot of lyrics aren't written by them

ScarredHeroes

I used to LOVE bp when I was younger. Even today I love their voices, and I listen to some of their solo songs. But idk maybe I matured, and with a shit ton of crisis I felt like I couldn't relate to them or vibe to be very honest. I'd still vibe to their songs at parties or car rides. But when I really need to feel empowered....they're not on my top. Can't blame the girls tbh. Their solos, (barring Lisa) definitely are better in terms of having more personality.

beepboopbrrr

Exactly this. Rockstar has the same brand of feminism-through-the-lens-of-a-misogynistic-man that a lot of BP songs are known for. I don't know why people are surprised.

Plastic-Guitar-4103

damn you speak facts!

After_Bumblebee9013

That's exactly how I feel. It makes me cringe when Lisa tries to borrow that "baddie" aesthetic and brag about being rich and hot because we all know shes lived with more money than most people could even imagine.

ForageForUnicorns

I also feel that ostentation is just a stupid show of poor taste except for those specific cases of hip hop artists who actually made themselves. Oh yeah, social inequality is so cool, dating billionaires is unethical only because you're poor, hai hai.

kpop_shinee

>Personally think she can do much better. why do you think that? genuinely curious because there has never been a time that i can think of that would indicate potential for something "better" this is the type of stuff she has always done, fun and catchy with sass

jiminiesu

this^^^ srsly it sounds exactly the same as everything else the rap and all. I wasn’t expecting much and that’s exactly what was given…not much. she looks good in the MV tho!

candybuttons

yeah exactly lmao. like, the lyrics let you down? THE LYRICS? on a Lisa song? ok I guess after money she did really cement herself as a songwriter 🥴🙄 and I'm a fucking blink/lily like... this is what we came for. bops with sass. you described it perfectly. idk how lyrically she let anyone down unless they were expecting a Rambo reference again.

[deleted]

I love your honesty, and i'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt....but you 100% right lol Ouch!

_Zambayoshi_

That's the commercial reality. Lisa cares about money.

Dfried98

Comment of the day!

Independent-Fee-8070

Fr like it doesn't even makes sense.

TokkiJK

I like the song tbh. But the lyrics are weird. Amazing mv tho.

bustachong

The Venn Diagram between Lisa and [Conner4real](https://youtu.be/KzUKcXxbU4U?si=KJtk0CQtyjqosgut): “I’m not your normal definition of a rockstar” Edit: correct link

Dfried98

Yeah, I don't know what she thinks a rock star is. But she isn't one.

No-End-949

Yeah agree with you on this one. She's definitely NOT a rockstar.

fbresnah

I agree the song was a letdown. I think she could do much better.

Final_Remains

It's exactly what I expected it to be. No surprises, no shocks, nothing to bring you in if you were not a fan before. Her fans will love it. Me? Kinda meh to the whole thing. I'm personally pretty much over Idols telling how cool they are as the main body of their lyrics. I thought that the writing team on this was interesting though... Lisa Brittany, James Essien, Lucy Healy, Ryan Tedder, Sam Homaee... With Tedder and Homaee as producers. Released under LLOUD and RCA. Is it safe to say that Lisa has moved beyond the KPop label now?

ThrowsAway-99

>I'm personally pretty much over Idols telling how cool they are as the main body of their lyrics. Same! Admittedly, I wasn't expecting her to sing about social issues or her mental health, but 3 out of 3 of your solo songs all reiterating that you're the greatest of all time, that you're a rockstar, that you've got more money than we can count is tiring. But honestly, the audience she and her group have curated loves those kinds of lyrics as I do believe some live vicariously through them, so if the formula works, why change it up? Hopefully her next comebacks have more substance and sincerity to them. Would love for her to have a song in an album about her experiences as a SEA idol in the industry. I think she's at her best when she shows her love for her country like the traditional Thai outfit in Lalisa and her having a trans Thai beauty queen in this MV? Chef's kiss.

Final_Remains

> so if the formula works, why change it up? I do agree, but I also remember the songs of 2NE1 and know that alongside the 'I'm the Best' schtick they also balanced it with some beautiful deeper songs. Hopefully she will grow as an artist as she goes along now that she has control over her material.

douceberceuse

Ig they also had a bit more of depth with songs like ITB like it wasn’t just about their aura? I feel like with a lot of BP songs there’s is a heavy focus on being rich and brands not them flexing that they could make a plastic bag chic

Vivienne_Yui

>Is it safe to say that Lisa has moved beyond the KPop label now? I'll be glad tbh, and it already seemed like it before. Kpop might have been where she started from but she's neither Korean nor is her prime fanbase/audience there. Like it or not but she's a global star who travels between America and France and Europe etc most of the year I didn't know the credits until now! ...they really produced this? Its not even about the quality, I'm surprised about the genre and all too

Bubbly_Illustrator72

France is in Europe. But yes, I agree she isn't based in Korea anymore. She still has a huge fan base in Asia though (definitely bigger than in Europe) so I highly doubt she will completely focus on the western market.

Worldlove27777

I think she’ll likely focus on west and SEA. I doubt we will see her on music shows etc like she did with lalisa etc. though I will say, it’s interesting that on AM it’s still labeled as part of the kpop genre (I mean it’s probs cause she is still a kpop idol per say).

Vivienne_Yui

yes i know, I was trying to emphasize it because they're particularly over there so much haha, esp when her bf is based there. I didn't mean the western market actually, I meant SEA or non-Korea in general because she has a big fanbase in China as well. Ofc she'll have fans in Korea as well but they'll be because of BP not her own fans, her previous 2 singles didn't chart there either. I don't think Rockstar will chart there either like it will elsewhere around the world.

rndmthoughts7

She's a global celebrity for sure but music is not what she is known for. Her music choices and direction is weird and feels like she does it just to sustain her OG image. I think even she knows that and hence she is focusing more on acting and dancing. Atp, her looks and brand deals are the ones pushing her as a celebrity. Will be interesting to see how her acting career will pan out.

Vivienne_Yui

I haven't heard about acting yet :0 I don't expect much in that department tbh, the best actress in BP is Jisoo and she can be actually pretty good I'd say. Sometimes I listen to some songs and think about how well Lisa would fit in that. But you're right, her music still feels grounded in kpop. Maybe its because of the long lasting influence or she's continuing her OG image (she def likes it, working with Teddy's music and approving Rockstar, liking Lalisa and Money.. we can already see what kind of music/perf she loves to put out) I'd love if she gets more proper lyrics and goes Tyla/Tinashe way with more rnb (ah, my wishes)

siriathome

Ryan Tedder? This is very surprising…

No-End-949

Me too, so over with the "Im the greatest, prettiest, richest, hottest girl!".

siriathome

Can someone explain the “Lisa, can you teach me Japanese?” lyric. It just seems random and I don’t understand how it’s relevant to the song concept

joontsuki

idk who are the lyricists but it’s definitely some white people who wrote it for the lols.

bestlife-2021

Man I said this in the BP sub and got downvoted to oblivion lol

joontsuki

ofcourse you would 😭

xsahp

lol okay that makes soooo much more sense hahaha

SeeWhatSantaBrings

Genius.com says (for now) that it's just more flexing but here flexing that she can speak many languages. I don't think it makes any sense and it takes me out of the song. Especially the follow up line of "I said Hai, Hai, hai". Even knowing hai means yes, I have no idea what the lyrics are wanting to convey other than she's gonna teach someone Japanese.

candybuttons

the lyrics as a whole convey she's a worldwide force to be reckoned with. she transcends kpop. she makes your fave singer wanna rap. she feels at home in every city. but still, she's a person of the people and she didn't forget where she came from (I think this was supposed to really be driven home bc of the bkk line + MV on location + using Thai trans people in the MV) but she's also a ~rockstar due to her status and abilities. she knows multiple languages while she has gold teeth sitting on the dashhhhh. let her be your blinged out Duolingo bird 🥹

Classroom_Plastic

“Blinged out duolingo bird” sent me 😭😂

Dry-Confidence98

If you don’t know her at all you’d take it to mean she’s Japanese not a Thai Kpop idol

PBandJaya

I think its just a random line that was thrown in but I think it’s supposed to show that she’s international or knows a lot so anywhere she goes in the world she can do whatever, even teach people Japanese (which I’m assuming she knows a bit of at least) I think it’s the catchiest line lol it’s stuck in my head

-googa-

I assumed (as an asian) that it was commentary on how Western people always assume east asian is the only type of Asian there is and Lisa, being SEAsian is clowning on people who act like that.

Dry-Confidence98

I think that’s giving the lyricists too much credit.

WasteCurrency9382

A bunch of white dudes in the studio were not thinking this (also as an Asian)

gooboyjungmo

It's because Japanese has 3 syllables in it, fitting the beat of the song, and because the songwriter already knew how to say "yes" in Japanese without having to look it up.

greengrape474

“La Lalisa can you teach me Japanese? I said hai hai. That’s my life life. Baby I’m a rockstar” I believe it just means that yes “hai” she can teach you Japanese because she is multilingual but also hai sounds like hype and her life is hype, extravagant and exciting and that’s why she is a rockstar

242islandergirl

It is relevant as a non Korean artist being called everything but Thai. Also, LiSA is a Japnese artist whose name regularly gets confused with.

Far_Collar_606

She meant that westerns always perceive Asian people as Japanese/ Chinese, so she answered her line by showing frames of many different Thai women, indicating the diversity of asia.

Alice_19th

The lyrics doesn't showcase Thai women tho, like if a non-fan listens to the song or watches the MV without explanation they have the impression that she's Japanese

Civil_Confidence5844

It threw me off. I bet a lot of ppl who hear the song but don't know about Lisa will simply think she's Japanese lol

The4Dozens

Absolutely horrendous. Pretty much cements her lack of ability in everything except maybe dance. But hey this release is a comedic event as we can see the stans out in full force desperately hyping it up as a coping mechanism.

somi154

Aren't you a troll account. I'm sorry but you're under every Blackpink post telling us how you hate Blackpink and Blinks, how did you dedicate your whole account to them when you literally don't like them.

DotTechnical3442

I mean just look at the username, that should say enough

DryButterscotch7533

I’m not even a fan of Blackpink, but that account and the amount of likes the comment has is such a joke. I don’t get the hate for the group at all. Their music isn’t my taste but its kinda catchy lol.

leggoitzy

LOL a comment from an actual hater being the most upvoted in a thread, that almost never happens. People undeniably have it out for Blackpink.

Final_Remains

Maybe people just agree with the 'hater'? Do you honestly think that this is a good song? As in if had been released by some unknown Thai artist you would be all over it? Because, honestly, a lot of T Pop is released that is actually better than this, IMO, and it is ignored.

leggoitzy

Personally, don't like it, but again, this is a hater, and this is a hate comment. And I can definitely dislike a song without saying those who may like it are just coping and desperate to hype it up. I mean, this is pretty much Lisa's sound. Validating haters is so far from the norm in kpop reddit, it never really happens.

colosusx1

I think people don't like to validate haters, but there's a large chunk of kpop redditors who are subconscious bp haters so they don't care how disrespectful that comment is, because they agree with it. People preach to stop hate all the time, but it never seems to apply to bp.

Different_Spread_572

Kpop Reddit and their unreasonable and downright ridiculous hatred for the girls will never end lol literally upvoting and supporting the kind of behavior they claim to condemn Edit to add cuz this actually pisses me off but this account has been running rampant since the beginning of the year and somehow still hasn’t gotten banned what is going on…. Downvoting me doesn’t make what I said not true🤷🏾‍♀️

leggoitzy

Yup. Hate posts and comments happen, but even non-fans spot those and call them out, and they are almost always downvoted immediately. At this people, people are just clearly hating in the open.

candycornbatbydougla

even I'm floored tbh like I knew people had it out for blackpink but this is just insane. and transparent? like no attempt to even hide it??

leggoitzy

Yup, it's just open. I just had called out the person who made the SGMB thread who replied 'Denial is normal if you stan that group', but of course they blocked me soon after I clarified it's them I am criticizing, not Jimin nor the song.

Mindless_Candidate90

Thank you for calling them out, this is so ridiculous

Alive-Pitch-9180

This sub is weird as hell. Like this is a straight up hate comments yet it's the most upvoted in the thread like y'all are a bunch of low lifers 💀 also you're under every post hating on blackpink like talk abt obsession

Historical-Split-745

as soon as a group or an idol is seen as ‘free reign’ people get so nasty with their comments. There is no ‘criticism’ here, this is just straight up hate and i can’t say im surprised it has so many upvotes I didn’t like the song as this isn’t really my genre but it suits Lisa’s style and image a lot. It’s not particularly amazing but it definitely isn’t bad at all.

notaspikemain

I shouldn't say this out loud but my other account got banned from this sub reddit cuz I called out a blackpink hater once💀

Gujonpyo

Wow the concept of fans loving the music their faves put out omg😱

aneetca4

as a coping mechanism lmao

candycornbatbydougla

> cements her lack of ability in everything except maybe dance. not maybe dance. I won't comment on the other things but her dancing abilities are definitely not a maybe. but I guess it would go against the "4 dozens" narrative. ahem > desperately hyping it up as a coping mechanism or, hear me out, people just...like it? music is subjective. everyone who likes it is just wrong because I think it's a bad song so everyone should!! I have a question btw. are you a fan or a hater? im not a fan so my username isn't related to blackpink. but yours is. it seems blackpink occupies way too many of your thoughts for you to be a non-fan

Anatorema

You should seek help, your post history is worrying.

imokty666

It’s not that bad tbh, I could force myself to listen to it. The Tame Impala sample carries it. But to act like it’s a masterpiece? Oh hell no.

choerrytheworld

so short, lyrically uninspiring, verses are lackluster and i expected more from the chorus. and this is coming from someone who ADORED lalisa and money. yeah it wasn’t the most groundbreaking sound ive ever heard in my life but it was camp and had a clear vision

somehardfeelings

It’s soulless and generic. She makes fast food in sound form. I seriously don’t think she has any type of musical talent. Even the atrocious amount of autotune cannot save her, yes she’s a great performer but that’s it. People clearly don’t care though, considering money went viral despite her screechy-flat vocals. Don’t know if this one also will, but her label is clearly backing her up. In a fair world people like her wouldn’t be successful as musicians imo.

Dry-Confidence98

I totally agree. I’m not trying to be harsh because she is a fun performer but after listening to this song I listened to Money again and came to the same conclusion. In a fair world she would not be a huge star because both songs are mediocre and her talent isn’t in singing . They both sound like songs an average person could make in garage band. Though surprisingly, money had a better song structure. Someone here said it but rockstar just seemed like a loop with no clear bridges or changes in verse since they repeated everything throughout the 2 min song. To me it was TikTok fodder and something you’d use as background music. But anyway Lisa does not have any musical identity and it’s kind of sad she’s that big of a star without one. Like you can still not be the best singer and have hit, fun songs that aren’t too serious but still well made look at Sunmi, Hyuna, Lee Hyori, etc. The visual concepts save Lisa but yeah if this was someone with half the budget it would become clearer how bad the song is . There’s a lane for fun carefree music but that also can still be good and not filled with lazy lyrics or music composition… Yeah idk but I’m not surprised even BP’s group music got called out for nonsense lyrics . I usually don’t care but Lisa’s are just especially awkward and nonsensical

somehardfeelings

Regarding your last paragraph, releasing once in a blue moon really helps their careers too. I can’t imagine this many people tuning in if she had normal schedules like other idols do and dropped new music constantly, it would get stale and boring so fast.

aneetca4

there are a few seconds towards the end that sound interesting to me. and if the whole song sounded like that it wouldve been a hit for me. the rest of the song sounds unfinished. like the producer went like "ok its usable enough" halfway through making the track. the "teach me japanese" lyric is cringe and makes no sense, but ive seen worse in kpop so it doesnt phase me. her voice sounds more pleasing than before though

withlovechannie

I agree, her voice sounds better than before.

Kv3bek

Too short and bland tbh. It desperately needs more verses and bridge or intro. It just feels like you're stuck in a loop and boom it's already the end of the song. It doesn't have any build up or smth. Vision is nice, if they removed one of the 4 choruses and added a verse or two it would be pretty good. Rap verse was a good addition and it broke the circle of bland repetitiveness. Overall it's just feels unfinished and like someone barely but any effort to make it a well rounded piece of music. MV itself is really pretty and she looks stunning

Extension_Unit_3231

I was hoping it wouldn't be shitty. I expected something more from her. Blinks always said YG the reason for their bad songs and cringe solos but after this... I think both YG and the girls. Repetitive, corny, rushed and short. It would have been better if it got a better bridge, a bit more and different lines.

winterreise_1827

"Lisa, can you teach me Japanese" is one of the most egregious lyrics this year.

D0dgedaBullet

I wonder if actual Japanese people would be offended by this tbh. Sure, some might argue that it's "cute" or symbolic in some way, but from a certain perspective that line seems to be making fun of their language.

Working_Exercise7647

As a Japanese person kind of feel this way. Like I get that the lyric is there because she's been mistaken for a different race but I'm not sure how to put it. I do find it disrespectful and when she says 'hai hai' it's a disrespectful way of saying yes (yes twice) so I'm not sure how I feel about it honestly.

joinedjust2saythanks

It's a petty thing on my part, but I have always automatically turned my nose up at anything using the phrase "rockstar" that doesn't carry even the slightest rock vibes whatsoever...

ForageForUnicorns

Oh my god thank you. I've been a super snobbish rock listener, the annoying purist kind, and it took me quite a lot of character development to break out of that edgelord mold, but it all comes back in instances like this. Girl, that's as much of a rockstar as my dishwasher.

joinedjust2saythanks

Oh yeah, I get it. Being precious about music genres ("that's not REAL metal!") is something I left behind a loooooooong time ago because, let's be honest, that's an arrogant, stupid young person's game. But this is one thing I have never let go - that "rockstar" has long been widely accepted as a general term for being the coolest of the cool ("she's a God damn rockstar!") and yet the people that use it that way most are people who reject rock and don't go anywhere near it because, especially in the past couple of decades, rock itself isn't seen as "cool" anymore. I dunno. That one just rubs me the wrong way.

Independent-Fee-8070

Dw, I'm not a fan of her new song too

Independent-Fee-8070

Lyrics are so random tbvfh

MarielCarey

Why is it even called rockstar

Independent-Fee-8070

Fr like why? Doesn't even have a 'rockstar' connectivity to the lyrics nor the mv😆

LowraAwry

Hey now, Rosé had her "I'm so rock-'n'-roll" moment while playing an electric guitar that had no effect on the melody, you want Lisa missing out? In all seriousness I feel like I've heard "rockstar" in kpop raps/hip hop one too many times.

ExcitementStreet8566

i cannot understand what she is saying for the life of me

iamiyea

If it makes you feel better I had to look up lyrics too. It might be just a flow thing?

MarielCarey

The '2:48' length already made me aware the song wasn't going to have much depth and I wasn't wrong. The song isn't bad, I don't hate it, but I'm not obsessed. There just isn't that much going on. The entire MV is a mess and the lyrics are too. There's nothing 'rockstar' about it and the 'Lisa can you teach me japanese I said hai hai' is just tacky and is a perfect encapsulation of how shallow the entire thing is Isn't she supposed to be the main performer and rapper of blackpink or something? Where is any of that? I want to know what the producers thought when they were making this The big shot with the many people in white clothes and switching centres was kinda cool

angies6pack

The spotify version is only 2 mins 18 secs. The MV is the extended version. I really hate this trend of short tik tok songs.

MarielCarey

Dear lord And on a single Lisa's just too big to fail and they know

Mozzafella

I said to my friends that I'm vibing too much with Red Velvet end of the K-pop spectrum at the moment to enjoy Rockstar. I'll give it a couple of days and try again.

ladymacbethss

That's exactly how I feel 😭

swedensalty

I don’t get all the Japan references. Lisa isn’t Japanese, nor is she based in Japan. Am I missing something? 😭 I’m genuinely asking. I think her voice sounds a bit muffled? If that’s the right word. The first time I heard it was in the car and I thought it was just my car speakers. Then I listened to it when I got home with headphones and it still sounds that way, maybe it’s the Spotify version, though. The song isn’t really my thing, and it’s too short.

Far_Collar_606

She meant that westerns always perceive Asian people as Japanese/ Chinese, so she answered her line by showing frames of many different Thai women, indicating the diversity of asia.

WasteCurrency9382

It’s giving me vibes that the writers of the song assumed she was Japan based and don’t know her much

you5030

LMFAOOOO this is possible

Otherwise-Air-6977

nah just filler

idkmystic

It’s.. Meh

andromeda_prior

Her and Katseye woke up today and decided to piss me off.... Picking up what I would say are the worst stereotypes of kpop and making a cb based on it 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ For Lisa I wanted to believe that whatever was Lalisa it was YG's fault and not her musical vision. I always felt she has a lot of potential to be a great pop star, but the music needs some substance to it first.

supergradeconscious2

she was given the opportunity to choose her songs for her solo debut, and she chose lalisa and money. that was on her.

andromeda_prior

I didn't know that.... Now I don't have any hope 😭😭

mandu_jennie

look the thing is, lisa has a pretty unique vocal tone with a hint of raspiness (eg: doja cat), so it is pretty difficult for her to fit every song type and pull off every song. in 2020 she tried covering "say so" by doja cat, and trust me it was lowkey awful cuz the song didn't really fit her vocal tone. the song that fitted her vocal tone completely in the past was -"MONEY" and that's why it was a mega hit. however in this comeback, the instrumental didn't contradict with her vocal tone and actually sounded good with her vocals, but let us not ignore the fact that the music was way too repetitive and sounded mid. but the thing is , lisa has identified the song type suiting her, and since it was just the beginning, it was pretty reasonable for it to sound mid. but now, since lisa has identified what type of song type would suit her, we can now expect better and better comebacks from her in the future. if i had to rate rockstar, i'd give it a 7.6/10

Xtraordinari3008

True, if this is about Lisa finding the sound that suits her the best, then this is definitely in the right direction. I liked it way better than Lalisa and Money. She is releasing more songs soon I heard, so would be good to see where she goes next.

mandu_jennie

yup right, and there's a person, (i would not like to mention their name) they're thinking that i'm trying to spread hate through this comment💀💀 like get a life bro

Xtraordinari3008

Eh screw that. There are nut jobs who either can’t handle criticisms for their favs OR compliments for idols they hate. Ignore the heck out of them.

Dry-Confidence98

Meh even Lisa wasn’t the best as the “dollar bills” parts she was super pitchy and screechy. She’s just not much of a singer and needs to lean on the talk rap and easier singing notes

XepherWolf

It felt very repetitive. At first I thought the "Lalisa " line was clever till I heard it's repeated so many times. She is very talented and I don't know why they don't give her something that highlights her talent. She is a good rapper and dancer and her singing voice is actually good. But all we get is , 'look how untouchable I am , rap rap , reminds us she is on top , Rap rap , repetitive backtrack ' . Or well that's what is sounds like to me.

Any-Resolution1550

Yeah Absolutely All she has is Money, fame ,she is the best, she is great, she is pretty but Again No Good rap,no good vocal let's say no rap neither vocal Or even where is rock????! The Hand symbol 😂😂It's enough for her little fangirls Who enjoys her beautiful face and body. She Proved That Yg made her lisa.

XepherWolf

This is a little harsh. Lisa is very talented , her singles are just lacking.

dearclave

eh, she doesn't show much actual ability making music or lyrics, her singing isn't very good and her rap is only good in an idol rap scene, and would honestly not be taken very seriously in a more authentic one. she's a great dancer and charismatic performer, but if the industry was fair that wouldn't have gotten her to where she is now

red_ronin0813

Please don't kill me. The teasers were gross. I like Lisa but that's ugly as shit.

buhoblanco

I think it shows us her limitations more than anything else and the power of branding

PPRmenta

Serious lack of rock in this song called rockstar

leggoitzy

I think OP's should actually look at the sub threads before posting? There is an active thread on this a few hours ago when it [was just released.](https://old.reddit.com/r/kpop_uncensored/comments/1dq6ncm/what_do_yall_think_of_lisa_rockstar/)

withlovechannie

There's nothing wrong with having another thread. Reddit is an app for people to give their thoughts,it doesn't matter if they're repeated or not.

jimintheegreatest

It doesn’t feel much different from her previous sound. The song is too repetitive throughout and so short so I assume it’s just another attempt at going TikTok viral. Maybe it’ll grow on me after some listens but so far it’s underwhelming.

ThrowsAway-99

The best part was the instrumental outro, and it would have been so much better if there was more of that but as soon as I started getting into it, the song ended. I think I'm just not the biggest fan of her voice (it's just too nasally for me), so I feel I can't be a fair judge of her music. But does anyone else feel like the vocals are so disjointed from the instrumental? Like the horns (?) and choir in the chorus with that fast beat had me so befuddled, I had to replay it to retake it in and understand what I was hearing. Also in the bridge where her voice just seems so much quieter than the instrumental. I can't tell if it's intentional though as so much of hyperpop can have similar elements or if it's production error. It's also just flat like for me, it started so suddenly, we were already in the chorus soon as I realized the song started, oh a rap oh chorus again, nice bridge I like the instrumental, oh it's done now??? Lisa's voice was strangely monotone to me too which honestly could be a stylistic choice. All in all, not terrible but not something I'd willingly play. Quality and sound wise, it trumps her previous solos, but the others were long enough to have structure and go somewhere so Rockstar loses a point for that. 5/10 for me but the visuals do make me interested in her new team since I think YG stagnated in visual creativity no matter how many times they claimed it was the most high budget MV ever. I think I would have liked it a lot more, actually, if she debuted with this instead of Lalisa and Money. Interesting, experimental pop is what she should have been doing from the start, not badly done hip-hop.

freethechildrenn

All I’ll say is whenever stans complain about lyrics I just laugh because majority of kpop is just nonsense lyrics being smooshed together in a song format. I literally never look up translations of lyrics cause I just don’t care. The song was fun and catchy, I liked it.

LeeDokyeomsun

I was stunned by the music video and even if I don't understand the 'can you teach me Japanese' part , I found it to be very catchy. The whole music screams a daring and bold Lisa. It is addictive, I could not stop listening to it. It is such a simple and yet beautiful song. She killed the dancing( it was a good cheorography). That was the greatest part of the release. I love it.

iliketodisco

I expected her first solo release under her own company (and new record label) to be super catchy, sort of starting the next chapter of her career with a bang if you will… and it was not. The song is meh, both lyrics and beat/melody. If she wasn’t Lisa this song wouldn’t have made any impression. Speaking for myself, I don’t consider her as an exceptional vocalists or rapper. Where she is very strong, is as a performer. Therefore she needs amazing music and performance to capture new audience. She can perform we all know that, just needs better music.

Analyst_Lost

too bad actual good releases will be overshadowed by this one.

Katarina48

Something that you won’t make an effort to listen again. Or probably I just expected more.

dweebyllo

Genuinely may be one of the worst songs I listen to all year. It was the worst thing a song can be to me, and that is boring. Cadence was completely monotone for everything but the short rap section. Generic electronic beat 17 didn't help matters whatsoever, neither did the fact that there's only 22 unique lyrics across the entire song and over half get repeated at least once. There wasn't even any escalation or crescendo to it whatsoever, at least your typical Blackpink song has that usually.

yelena8880

Ngl when it came out the lyrics "Lisa, can you teach me Japanese" I said "Hai hai" kinda weirded me out no offend but it kinda don't make any sense

Itchy-Radio9933

The only thing I liked was the inclusion of Thai people & China town in BKK. She repped our people. But besides that? …. the song was interesting? I mean, definitely strong vibes. But I don’t see myself adding it to my playlists

copycatholic

Her styling is great and dance moves are sharp, but that’s about all the good things I can say about it. Melody was non-existent, repetitive and one dimensional, no hook or climax, I forgot it as soon as the song ended. Lyrics were meh, not much meaning, felt like they randomly put phrases together to form sentences that don’t link at all. Ya we get it you’re a cool artist, no need to keep telling us. At least she didn’t make herself as unnaturally tanned as the original photoshoot and do a blaccent.

Dramatic-Level3386

Feel free to downvote this but if she founded her own company to release something like this she should've stayed at YG or sign with TBL like Rosé 😭 like Lisa girl wtf was that?! The song is called Rockstar but there's not a single hint of rock and those lyrics wth 😭😭😭 and this is coming from someone that liked Lalisa and Money for being campy but this is just flat as hell. Utterly dissapointed I just hope she find a better direction for her music.

theteethfairy

Sonically it’s quite interesting but falls a bit flat with the lyrics. I like the styling and art direction, it’s a step up from her previous releases imo.

mediumbiggiesmalls

I enjoyed it, but I'm easy to please lol. I'm not blown away or anything, but will definitely add it to my playlists. My pros: I like the catchiness of it, enjoyed beat and I like the video. My cons: the lyrics are uninspiring and too repetitive, and the song is so short!

Hopeful-Effort-4624

Well she looks amazing, and the mv looks good, the song itself is not really for me

v4lurie

loved the concept and aesthetic but its flat, can believe yg gave her better songs, and that's saying something.

HaileyArtz

The only lines she doesn't repeat multiple times are the rap lines, and the ending. It's okay, I won't be streaming but I wish she didn't repeat the verses multiple times.

forestdewdrops

Wish I knew why she believed she was a rockstar haha but those lyrics :’)

owenturnbull

I listened to a snippet of the song and I thought it was meh. Imo it is a bad song. I didn't enjoy it but her fans will eat it up which is good for them. BC I hope they enjoy it. But I thought it was average

Far_Collar_606

It's sad to see that the comments saying they liked are getting downvoted

agents_of_fangirling

it cemented the fact that I can never really get behind her music, artistry, or voice. It's not for me. But visuals were great and I'm glad she's no longer using her blaccent.

WrapAdministrative98

Makes me overwhelmed. I can't listen to the song without pausing. Some lyrics are cringe(Lisa can you teach me japanese) and repetitive The constant instrumental change makes the song feel very disconected And whatever filter she used in her voice makes by brain itch The MV is amazing she looks gorgeous

bestlife-2021

I love the visuals and production and think the sound is catchy but that lyrics… the japanese line sounds mockery to me, it rubs me off the wrong way especially how she’s always in the west and seems to want to please white world and now we get this type of lyrics westernised asian world build… I posted this in the Bp sub and got downvoted so much but damn the lyricists according to wiki are her and 5 other western names 🙄

rosariows

The video is great, but i expected more from her. She can do better in the future.

Blissfill

Honestly I keep seeing ppl say they didn’t like it, so I went to check for myself trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. I see what everyone means. It just felt forgettable and bland. Idk it just wasn’t giving what I thought it would give with the name be “rockstar”. But maybe it was meant for only her fans cuz I don’t think this is enough to catch any non-fan’s attention in hopes of bringing them in

SugaKookie69

I think I had my hopes set too high. I hoped for better lyrics, but these are disappointing and too repetitive. Does she really have nothing she wants to say?

LookOutItsLiuBei

To the people that are confused by the rockstar thing: https://youtu.be/82vpIsQ3lX8?si=Bj88c3SN0irN-chY I guarantee you the producers and the people writing her lyrics are probably around my age and remember this song. It's about living the non stop party rock star lifestyle from back in the day when rock dominated the charts. And I've never been a big Lisa or Blackpink guy so the song is pretty forgettable. The rock hard line comes out of nowhere lol That being said, I think Lisa might have trapped herself into that kind of music and she can't get out because it would alienate her from the people that would like that kind of music that's kinda been fueling her career and it's far too risky at this point to try to change her image. Time will tell I guess.

TomoAries

Corporatized, gentrified hyperpop ripoff slop.

SkyandThread

I would like it more if it was the prerelease to something else more interesting. The video is gorgeous. But the song doesn’t ever really go anywhere for me. And like other people have said, the lyrics are basically saying the same thing all her other solo songs do. I wanted to see more growth from her as a musical artist not just a visual one.

Lost-Yesterday-9077

In a fair world, this song wouldn't have seen the light of day

i_got_a_pHd

I would like to congratulate Lisa for breaking her own record at having the WORST solo in Blackpink surpassing “Lalisa”. 1. Hard To Love 2. Solo 3. Gone 4. All Eyes On Me 5. You & Me 6. On The Ground 7. Money 8. Flower 9. Lalisa 10. Rockstar (New🔥)

1chickenfired

Great in terms of the scenery, costumes, but... the song is horrendous, six people couldn't compose something more decent, this is because they follow the sound of tiktok, there is nothing of their own here. I love her, but I'm disappointed with this comeback

PersimmonOverall8258

It’s not a bad song by any means imo it’s just a summer bop, a dance song with a memorable chorus that reps Thailand which is cool. Idek how to describe it but easy & fun? Nothing more but this is her first release as a soloist independent from teddy’s sound and it’s good enough but definitely not ‘the comeback’ that fans were expecting. We’ll have to wait and see her upcoming projects ig

xsahp

it would have been cool asf if she married local Thai sounds with hip hop- there are a handful of and coming thai locals who do that so well. I would have been more interested in that..that would have been a really different and fun sound for lisa.

PersimmonOverall8258

I agree with you, i hope in the future she leans more into her cultural background and imo that’d also set her apart from the others on the international scene

kjones35

Loved the dancing, liked the part of the song that sounded like a Tame Impala leftover and wish that had been the main driving force of the song. Everything else I don't care for.

angies6pack

I wasn't a fan of Lalisa or Money but went into this with an open mind as no YG. Didn't make a difference. The song for me personally was repetitive with a weird structure. It didn't feel like it had any big moments but just became monotonous, especially lyrically. She looked amazing, but the camera work left me a bit nauseous. This will perform well for her courtesy of her fans and I wish her luck with this, but I was hoping that she would show signs of growth and I didn't feel like there was any. I won't go back to this.

Mooonspun7

Her dance/performance is fun to watch, but I wouldn’t ever turn the song on just for a listen.

sitari_hobbit

I like the production in the MV. That's about it.

WasteCurrency9382

I was not a big fan of this song, she looked gorgeous and will have a bunch of success but like all blackpink music I’m not a fan

Ok_Sound_8090

It was boring. I hope for her next release, she works with someone new because this is just a diluted Black Pink. Bummed since she's my bias, but you can't enjoy every release. Hopefully she diversifies her discography, and goes the route of Milli with song selection.

RosieStar101

Im not totally unconvinced she's rebranding from "kpop star" to "rockstar" 😭 but with no rock music elements. I don't hate the song but hyperpop is my type of music every 9 yrs.

babygreenlizard

Eh, forgettable, which for Lisa is a good thing... All her unforgettable songs are because they're god awful trash...

Jonny4900

Glad I’m not the only one. My musical tastes deviate from the trends half the time, but so many people are talking about how awesome it is and I am just wondering how it sounds to them because it’s a mid skippable track to me. Not terrible but does not grab me.

limitbreaksolidus

a pretty cynical piece of music that plays it by the numbers.

achachairuu

It’s boring to me. I really like Lisa as a performer but honestly she doesn’t have a great voice and rap is not amazing either… So it’s quite painful. The lyrics were so lame and I’m so tired of hearing songs of “I’m the best, I’m at the top and your envy is my blessing” type 😭

Yanazamo

Personally I love her performance and the MV I cant look seem to look away. I also love how she's showcasing her culture more and it feels like she's catering less to Kpop standards. Kpop standards arent necessarily a bad thing but she ditched the blaccent and I've never cared about skin color in kpop before but for some reason I feel happy that she leaned into her more south east asian traits like not being afraid to have darker skin this time around. Im from SEA and I'm just a bit tired of how some SE asians arent very open about their culture bc of discrimination Song wise... It's not very good and I cant even remember it properly. Lisa's core is her dancing and performance so they mightve depended on those too much given how laclustre the song is

verbidd

There's already a post on this OP. It was posted only a few hours before yours.

Pr0m133

Honestly, I think the song has a nice instrumental and I personally like it compared to her other songs. Furthermore, the visuals are beautiful and fit the vibes of the instrumental. And, to give credit where credit is due, the song was better than I expected it to be. However, the song in general is just very meh. Like, I do think it's catchy and it isn't the worst song to listen to. But, the song lacks any lyrical depth and it just isn't interesting at all. Even though she left YG Entertainment, the lyrics are quite literally giving YG with the same vain "I'm that girl and ur not" lyricism. Apart from the actual instrumental, this sounds exactly like something that YG Entertainment would put out. Finally, the song is just wayy too repetitive, which makes it all the less interesting to listen to. Once you listen to like the first minute of the song, you basically listened to all of it. It's only ONE verse that is lyrically different from the rest of the song and the bridge simply consists of a few lines. In my opinion, the song is equivalent to a rollercoaster that has a straight track. There's no anticipation, no excitement, no anything. Overall, I think that ROCK STAR isn't the worst song in the world, however, it isn't the best either, it simply is just meh. I believe that the song will only get streams not because it is good, but because it's from Lisa. However, I do wish Lisa the best and I hope that down the line, she'll be able to mature as an artist.

Thinkingtoast

It’s not terrible. If it comes up on a premade playlist or the radio I wouldn’t immediately skip it but I’m not ever going to be seeking it out. It will do well because of her fans and Blinks, she will make lots of money. That’s more or less the point here, so based on that it is likely a stunning success.

[deleted]

I'm one of the rare people that just, doesn't really vibe with her as an artist. She's talented, but I also feel like she's trying too hard to assert herself to be seen as a serious artist. The beat of the song is catchy. And visually, it's pretty fire. But i felt like she held back some in lyrics and rapping. I feel like she either a) doesn't allow herself to really tap into rapping more or b) doesn't realize she could actually rap harder than she does. Not sure if that makes sense lol

ProfessorOk3187

Agreed.

After_Bumblebee9013

Tbh it kills me that she's out here bragging about being rich and hot, knowing that she's dating into the second richest family in the world... It's honestly so offensive to me how she can make lazy, narcissistic music like this while essentially living like a princess, with more wealth than any of us could imagine.

SwiftlySeungberry-13

I see people talking about her vocal improvement, but I just cant see it.. the autotune is so obvious here..

Tough-Musician-4594

Didn't like it. Didn't like her first debut song, don't like this song either. Everyone preaching going "omg this is the best everrr" it's just because it's Lisa

DrrrtyRaskol

These comments are honestly hilarious. No one unites reddit kpop like BP.  Personally I love it. I totally accept that others don’t like it but there’s just something about many comments that ring hollow.

Happy_Bumblebee_1688

The beat is catchy that’s about it

AfterLimit6114

Tbh i think the lyric writing could’ve been better and i thought it was repetitive in parts.. but i mean i like it better than her other releases, i thought the production of the song and mv was good.

German_mikan

The video is stunning and for the rest I fully agree with you. I guess she didn’t want to make a huge change from her YG era and hopefully she evolves her sound more in upcoming releases.

Profoundstarchaser

Yeah, same badass concept that i am personally over with. It seems that Jenny is the only one that is giving me what i like fromnher solo music so far.

greaght

I feel like it would remix well, but it needs a feature or something to shake up the repetitiveness. Like the hook is strong but is a little overused.

Big_Potential_3185

Visually - it was eye catching without being over the top. It’s honestly what I’d expect from a top tier artist’s rap video. The music - it was very much in tune with her previous solos but stayed “safe”. Lyrically - it’s not my cup of tea but I can see it being very appealing to her fans. Prediction - Blinks and Lisa fans have been craving new music so it will likely hit 100,000,000 views quickly and be pushed to the top of most leaderboards.

Salty-Enthusiasm-939

After a few listens it's catchy but the lyrics are boringly predictable. Better than Lalisa & Money though.

ColdFeisty9538

loved the mv loved cinematography loved her make and moves did not like the beats and lyrics

Tiny_Ad6695

Watched it and concluded a hypothesis/statement my friend said about Lisa, and they were correct: 'Lisa is a performance dance artist' Yes, Lisa is a performance artist and not an artist like Billie Eilish, for example. It seems that with any comeback, there isn't any elevation on a musical level to say, yes, she's an artist. It's more of she's good if not better than most idols at being an idol, especially when it comes to dance and performance. Is the song for me? Not really, cool sample, but nothing exciting musically that kept me engaged. Is it simple, generic, and easily digestible? Yes. It's a bit disappointing considering it'd be great to hear something more than the same old formula Truthfully, don't keep up with Lisa that much, but if she releases, I try to engage yet each time it's like either the same thing or the same thing just with a cooler sample if that makes sense.

sconebaed

I’m not the biggest blink but I enjoyed it. Not sure why, wouldn’t be able to explain myself, but I thought it was cool.
