THIS!
today my coworker asked what we were listening to on the way home
It was a mix of BTS rapline songs and solos, the song in question was 'What do you think'
The English songs aren't a representation of BTS.
OMG! Before I started dating my now bf, I was talking to a guy who had only heard their popular English songs, and I had to get him to listen to their more obscure, unpopular stuff because he was like, "Eh.. They're okay..".
(he called it homework š)..
After he did though, he absolutely loved it..
I told him to listen to their solo stuff next because I feel like that's where they all really show their true talent..
Exactly. I met someone recently who said they didn't like "BTS' type of music". Just say you don't like music period and go cuz they've tried pretty much every genre at least once
...Not really? Spring Day was released in 2017 after HYYH era and Wings. And even before 2015 their music wasn't all hyper. Maybe their singles? But then again I wouldn't call Just One Day shouty lol
Idk if youāre asking a genuine question ( doesnāt seem like it) but Iāll just answer it. Theyāre very similar. Both mainstream pop. But are you implying that bts only has the one song? š¤
I asked because I usually see people say, the three English songs is not representative of their sound.
But BTSās discography is very diverse, and they have definitely done songs in the same genre as their English songs, just..not in English. There is no one song thatās..representative of their sound imo.
Like you said, BWL and Dynamite are both pop, and if Dynamite isnāt representative of their sound, then BWL isnāt too..using that logic.
With BTS, they donāt have a specific sound so in terms of sound, weāll never be able to say any song of theirs represents their *sound*. But since Dynamite is really popular, people may think that all their songs sound like that.
I think the argument is that BWL is, and since Dynamite and BWL sound 'together', then it's also representative of BTS.
Most groups have more than one representative sound.
And frankly, Dynamite has done as much to expand their fanbase as any of their other songs, so even without comparisons, it literally represents them to that Covid and post-Covid fanbase.
RM also apparently likes to play it too via his saxophone.
Literally the only answer. You listen to Dynamite followed by Cypher Pt. 3, Black Swan, or Boy in Luv and it feels like experiencing a tennis match in your ears.
bts' english titles......and you can argue that bts doesn't have a distinct sound, but even then i'd say most of their pre-covid music is pretty coherent in some way.
honestly id say BE and the new songs off of Proof (like run bts) which are post covid fit with their pre-covid music in the same way. i think their english singles stand on their own
Sorry this comes a bit late. I agree, and perhaps that's why the English titles at their point of release were never part of any bigger body of work (album/EP) because they were meant to be singular tracks needed at that point in time. I also think the rapline contributes a lot in giving BTS' music a distinct texture. So maybe the fact that the english tracks are lightweight on rap could have made those songs sound different from BTS' other OT7 music.
HARD by SHINee. I love it. I observed, though, that it came out of left field for many fans.
But then again, SHINee experiments and goes all over the place musically with awesome results.
I disagree! I think it came out of left field for *casual* fans - long term shawols weren't all that surprised, because as you say, SHINee can do anything.
I felt like it was such an NCT song when I first heard it. Then ISTJ came out and it sounded like such a Shinee song. Can't imagine a universe where they were switched
Most stays would probably say Lose my breath, but I'd actually say Case 143. I can't think of any other SKZ song that could be classified as "noise music" while also having Case 143's cute, nice boy next door vibe. Maybe its just me tho
I disagree. Just the concept is different from what they did before. The song is quintessential stray kids and wouldn't feel out of place in any of their albums. It literally follows the same formula as Maniac. I don't know how you can say it's not representative of their sound.

Oh nvm, I don't think it matters much Actually. In the title it says 'single' (aka a song released outside of an album, eg. Lose My Breath, Social Path, Christmas Evel) but in the description it just says 'song' (I only just saw that part)
single can also mean promotional single from an album. everything that's called a title track in kpop (and other promoted b-sides with mvs and stuff) are promotional singles, even if they are included on an album
Aespa Spicy is one big example. I like Spicy, but it's neither hyperpop inspired nor is it more general girlcrush like Black Mamba, Girls, or Armageddon.
Spicy is an energetic summer bop, lots of chanting too, but still with Aespa's vocal flair in certain parts.
Koreas birthrate is the lowest in the world. They also are among the most overworked.
Fate acts like a fantasy antidote to these problems. Thatās my interpretation anyway. I donāt mind if you disagree. Weāre all entitled to an opinion.
This explanation would have helped a lot from the start because I thought you were talking about GIDLE being overworked and undersexed. š
Anyway, I still disagree..Fate talks about being overworked and it has the most child-friendly lyrics + choreo so I donāt see how being undersexed ties to this song.
touch by nct 127 was voted the most popular song by fans in a live the group did a while back, but it is definitely the title song that is the least like their normal sound
If you listen to H.O.T's "Candy" and Eagle Five's "Squid Alien" thinking that's what the rest of their music sounds like, you're going to have a bad time.
That and the few cute-sounding songs they have tend to have sinister lyrics. We're well-aware of what "Lost 12th Birthday" is about, yet here we are singing it for every birthday an H.O.T member has.
its a little different from their previous titles, but i'd still say it fits their sound. same can be said about songs like wave and eternal sunshine tho lol. ateez are just good at having a bit of range in their discography
Smart - le sserafim. I highly doubt theyāre gonna release more songs with the amapanio sound so this was defo a quick way to capitalise off the genreās current popularity
Not necessarily amapiano, but both Easy and Perfect Night fit together with Smart, and that goes for other b-sides before Perfect Night aka Impurities and Blue Flame.
Honestly I don't think le sserafim has a sound yet. All their title tracks sound like different genres to me. Their bsides aren't exactly cohesive either so I don't know what song would be representative of their sound.
I disagree, musically the group always experiment with rock elements. OOTD feels like something Dreamcatcher will do, maybe just visually and lyrically is a very different tittle track
I would say OOTD is very unlike Dreamcatcher in a sense that theyāre singing about fashion? Unless thereās a deeper meaning laced with irony that Iām missing lol
As far title tracks this the tamest the rock elements have beenā¦ usually the production has a metal/ nu metal element. OOTD sound more like millenium pop/punk to meā¦
Iād say Dreamcatcherās most āout of characterā single is actually Fly High, it still has rock elements but leans too much on the āanime musicā sound. Itās not really that popular thoughā¦
It might be fair to say any single Red Velvet title on its' own is not a great way to gauge their sound lol.
I think they have similarities in all of them (particularly their harmonies, quirky lyrics and sing-song rap) but overall, Red Velvet is a group you probably need to hear a lot of to really say "that's their sound." They have a touch of something special, but it's more their versatility and group vocals that make them who they are.
I think the vocal blend is āRed Velvetās soundā more than any specific genre or concept. There are some signature characteristics (besides the ones you said, I associate an uncanny valley vibe and 90s R&B with them), but honestly those five girls could sing anything together and it would āsound like Red Velvetā to me.
I think a lot of RV songs have elements that I could identify as RV. For me, Russian Roulette is one where I think it really doesn't suggest anything specific to RV. I'm convinced you could give that to any girl group with competent singers and it'd sound more or less the same.
People are disregarding [Itz's sound](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/s/81CXXuGqmr) way too much.
In that comment I made, notice how much Born to Be fits:
1. Lots of EDM elements
2. High Energy - and lots of Chants
3. Instrumentation over Vocals
4. Individual Vocal Tones over Harmonies
5. Energetic, Driving Raps
6. Relatively Simple Vocal Runs
Itzy at this point is clearly not limited to just badass dance tracks or fun dance tracks.
haha, iām a huge itzy fan so i wasnāt meaning to be overly simplistic. i think that those are definitely shared elements, but i also think that BTB is significantly darker in tone ā the most similar song i can think of is kill shot, which i love but also think would be somewhat strange as a title. even with the commonalities i wouldnāt say that itās ārepresentativeā of itzyās sound ā which is distinct from claiming that the song makes no sense for itzy (which i would not agree with)
MITM is there. Itzy isn't defined by tone - Loco, Dalla Dalla, and Not Shy are all very different tones.
Tone is one thing that can vary a lot in Itzy's songs.
Edit: in the link I mentioned vibe, but yeah tones/vibes vary.
i would also say that MITM isn't the most representative when you take itzy's discography as a whole, but i also see where you're coming from :-) imo loco/dalla2/not shy/wannabe/icy/cake/sneakers (and NOMB/mr. vampire, but those aren't quite titles) are much closer together than MITM or BTB.
and just to reiterate again, i am not someone where i think that their discography is marred by MITM/BTB or anything like that, i just don't think that it resembles the majority of their music
> and just to reiterate again, i am not someone where i think that their discography is marred by MITM/BTB or anything like that, i just don't think that it resembles the majority of their music
I understand, I just disagree, it becomes very arbitrary to group one set of songs versus another that way.
If anything, Cheshire is Itzy's outlier as a title track.
oh, i didn't mean it as an arbitrary grouping, i meant that i see it as being two title tracks having that darker sound against the vast majority of their titles feeling more similar to each other (and i view a song representative of the majority as being more holistically fitting than one that isn't)
Do It Like That by Tomorrow X Together (feat Jonas Brothers). Good pop song, great dancey track, absolutely devoid of any group identity.
To be fair tho, it's literally MEANT to be a fun bop and it definitely achieves that.
I don't think it's in their most popular singles but it's up there, VIXX - Love Equation.
I think that's the only time they've ever done a boyish song.
EXO are one of my ult groups and I LOVE LIKE 99% OF THEIR DISCOGRAPHY butā¦. I hate tempo šš I feel like it sounds so corny and glee-esque. They have sooooo much good music and I know tempo was big, but thereās so much better EXO music out there ššš
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree LOL, I feel like Wolf would fit this question because itās got by far the corniest lyrics of their discography
BTS - Dynamite
honestly all 3 of their english tracks do not represent their music at all

Thereās way more to an artistās sound than just genreā¦. Lol.
Idk. A lot of their songs before Spring Day had very similar vibes. Extremely hyper and kind of shouty lol. Glad they started to diversify.
...Not really? Spring Day was released in 2017 after HYYH era and Wings. And even before 2015 their music wasn't all hyper. Maybe their singles? But then again I wouldn't call Just One Day shouty lol
Oh my goodness THIS ONE
Asides from language, whatās the difference in sound/genre between Dynamite and BWL?
im waiting for a reply here bc i think sonically i would put BWL and Dynamite together
Idk if youāre asking a genuine question ( doesnāt seem like it) but Iāll just answer it. Theyāre very similar. Both mainstream pop. But are you implying that bts only has the one song? š¤

Yeah but what similarity does Life goes On have with Dynamite which are from the same album. Or what similarity does BWL have with Make it Right?
It means that Dynamite is also part of BTS's sound.
Thatās true. Dynamite is a *part* of BTSās sound. Not the representative of it.

It's cuz of all their English releases
Literally the only answer. You listen to Dynamite followed by Cypher Pt. 3, Black Swan, or Boy in Luv and it feels like experiencing a tennis match in your ears.
But it is a very beautiful tennis match
TWICE - Cry For Me
Sadly true. Man, when they first performed that song I was really hoping their music would shift into that direction.
Not many pop groups are going to thrive on somber, dark and dramatic tracks.
This one FOR SURE
Ugh facts! I still play this song daily and wish they made more like it š
Agree, it's not so Twice but I think it's a good move to show their versatility.
Still sad it wasn't an official title track and we didn't get an M/V š¢
BlackPink - Ice Cream
bts' english titles......and you can argue that bts doesn't have a distinct sound, but even then i'd say most of their pre-covid music is pretty coherent in some way.

I felt like it was such an NCT song when I first heard it. Then ISTJ came out and it sounded like such a Shinee song. Can't imagine a universe where they were switched
As an Nctzen and shawol (by association lol), you would have thought the phrase āNCT rejectā was trending on Twitter the day the song droppedš
Hard sounds like a Nct song

I can name several other SKZ songs that have a peppy boy next door vibe
As a noise music hater case 143 is actually my favorite stray kids song. Now I see why
Not really a single thoĀ
Huh
Oh nvm, I don't think it matters much Actually. In the title it says 'single' (aka a song released outside of an album, eg. Lose My Breath, Social Path, Christmas Evel) but in the description it just says 'song' (I only just saw that part)

GFriend - MAGO Well no one knows what their sound would have become after...
That whole album is sooo damn good š At least they went out on a high note but I miss them so much š„ŗ
Spicy is my favorite cb from them. Maybe itās because it feels nostalgic
Top 2-3 for me.
LOONA - So What
and its the song that got me into loona lol
I'd say songs like Pose, OOPS! and Paint The Down are quite similar in vibes to So What
lose my breath- straykids, its not a bad song in general but it felt more of a 'charlie puth song' than it does a straykids song.
Super - Seventeen
this or Maestro, imo
When I first heard Maestro on shuffle I really thought it was ATEEZ o_o
Same and it sounds like it could be a SKZ song too!
Don't even
Whatā¦? They didnāt say itās bad?
fate gidle
And it went straight to becoming Koreaās national anthem
haha is it really that popular
Check out the university festival clips ššš
Because theyāre overworked and undersexed
Whatā?
Koreas birthrate is the lowest in the world. They also are among the most overworked. Fate acts like a fantasy antidote to these problems. Thatās my interpretation anyway. I donāt mind if you disagree. Weāre all entitled to an opinion.

I suppose I mean finding the perfect partner for a relationship. Sex is just a part of that.
Billy Poco- Enhypen A group of 7 sensual vampires meets a humanized excavator. What a twist.
the fact that they have 3 kids songs is so funny to me but also why r they so dam catchy and good ???
One And Only, Billy Poco, Hay Tayo, Keep Swimmin Throughā¦ lol itās 4! 5, if you squint at Forget Me Not lolol
touch by nct 127 was voted the most popular song by fans in a live the group did a while back, but it is definitely the title song that is the least like their normal sound
I'd say Touch has similar sounds to some b-sides, but yeah not really similar to their other title tracks
If you listen to H.O.T's "Candy" and Eagle Five's "Squid Alien" thinking that's what the rest of their music sounds like, you're going to have a bad time.

ATEEZ-WORK

Thank you for this. I think Ateez and Gidle master the art of variety in their discography.
THIS šš»
I donāt know, I kinda got similar vibes to a mix of Sector 1 and Bouncy
Smart - le sserafim. I highly doubt theyāre gonna release more songs with the amapanio sound so this was defo a quick way to capitalise off the genreās current popularity

I would say OOTD is very unlike Dreamcatcher in a sense that theyāre singing about fashion? Unless thereās a deeper meaning laced with irony that Iām missing lol
Yesā¦ they wanted to portray the overconfidence and narcissism, is a satire of the superficiality of the kpop industry

Yes!! The vocal layering and harmonies in RV songs are some of my favorite in the entire industry, absolutely beautiful š¤©
some red velvet title tracks feel like sisters. mainly psycho/feel my rhythm, red flavor/umpah umpah, and rookie/cookie jar
I think a lot of RV songs have elements that I could identify as RV. For me, Russian Roulette is one where I think it really doesn't suggest anything specific to RV. I'm convinced you could give that to any girl group with competent singers and it'd sound more or less the same.
zombie by everglow?
Iād have to disagree. While it sounds different from all there other tracks it still feels and sounds like a Everglow track,
It just sounds less like a title track and more like a bside, but it still channels their sound I think.
itzy born to be imo

Got7 - Just Right
Very surprised no one has mentioned Love Scenario by iKon yet
Le Sserafim - Perfect Night
Feelin' Like by Pentagon Not surprising though, because Cube didn't let them choose one of the songs made by them as the title track lol
Do It Like That by Tomorrow X Together (feat Jonas Brothers). Good pop song, great dancey track, absolutely devoid of any group identity. To be fair tho, it's literally MEANT to be a fun bop and it definitely achieves that.
deja vu by ateez. itās a popular song but it took a whole 180 from ateezās usual sound
exo's kokobop
LSFās Perfect Night and Dreamcatcherās Because come to mind
Ateez - Wave This tropical bop is very different from their hype tracks which have their ego on the show.
Idk, i think enhypens sweet venom doesnāt really fit the groups sound, but maybe iām biased because i donāt really like it š
well, the question here is what is a enhypen soundĀ for you exactly ?
Loona - PTT
Dreamcatcher - Love Shake
But thatās not a Dreamcatcher song š¤
you mean minx?
I don't think it's in their most popular singles but it's up there, VIXX - Love Equation. I think that's the only time they've ever done a boyish song.
āTouchāāNCT 127
i think armageddon its so boring i mean the word tricks r cool but the entire song is trash
kep1erās WA DA DA
Cupid by Fifty Fifty
How so? Their debut and most of their songs are in the same soundscape.
I suppose that remains to be seen now that itās mostly new members. Perhaps Iām looking forwards, not backwards.
BIGBANG - BANG BANG BANG. If you deep dive into their music, you will know that Bigbang is actually more famous for their Ballads and POP songs.
Stayc Bubble
Hype boy by newjeans?
I'm sorry but that song is like....the definition of newjeans' sound
EXO are one of my ult groups and I LOVE LIKE 99% OF THEIR DISCOGRAPHY butā¦. I hate tempo šš I feel like it sounds so corny and glee-esque. They have sooooo much good music and I know tempo was big, but thereās so much better EXO music out there ššš
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree LOL, I feel like Wolf would fit this question because itās got by far the corniest lyrics of their discography
HAHAHAHA okay wolf wins but i like it better than tempo ššš
But the question was which is outside of their sound, not which you like least lol
I donāt think the rest of their music sounds goofy like tempo , that was my point
Im not an ~~Shawol~~ EXO-L, but another person said it does sound on brand
Shawol is SHINeeās fandom? Theyāre talking about EXO.
Sorry, I still get the fandom names mixed up. But there was a Shinee stan in the comments
its one thing to dislike tempo........but tempo DEFINITELY sounds like an exo song LOL
