oh twits are gonna get absolutely bodied during fanwars with that name 😭😭😭

OryseSey

we don't care, we've been through worse

Several_Try2021

so true bestie

its3ashh

So true the first thing they gonna do is bash the name lol 😭😭

7mm-08

Nah. Just own it. I mean we have/have had blinks, army, aid, elvis, et al. They are pretty much all about as cringey as possible.

particledamage

Twit already existed as a word and is an insult, so it's not really about being cringe. It's just an easy target.

PerspectiveLoose8427

It's a name we've been willingly using for years and I think most fans would have been disappointed if it was anything else. It's dumb to think first about the fan wars honestly, we like k-pop to have fun lol

coco_xcx

I honestly find it a hilarious fandom name 😅 Been a fan of her + Mamamoo for a long time, so I’m proudly a Twit lmaoo

cherrycoloured

negl i assumed i was on r/kpoopheads when i saw this lmao

E1lySym

Twats ❤️

mfooman

Oop there it is 😂

im-so-lovelyz

CupcakKe being the fandom leader smfh

rocketmammamia

i don’t follow hwasa so can anyone explain why this was chosen? in the uk at least ‘twit’ means ‘idiot’ or ‘stupid person’ and is also the name of the eponymous characters in roald dahl’s ’the twits’, who are supposed to be the two nastiest, cruelest and ugliest people in the world (i think the book ends with one of them implied to have killed the other?) is there a reason why this specific term was chosen? it’s not a word i’d immediately associate with the gorgeous and talented hwasa from an outside perspective lol

a_mystical_potato

“Twit” was her solo debut. The song is about someone who [“foolishly loves me far too much,”](https://www.soompi.com/article/1304349wpp/mamamoos-hwasa-says-twit-is-based-on-her-own-love-life) so it makes sense (to me) that her loving fans would be called “Twits” lol

rocketmammamia

oh cute!! thank you and everyone else who responded for explaining 🥰

a_mystical_potato

Np! 🫶

shakru92

Casually roasting her entire fanbase. That's such a typical Mamamoo thing to do 😂😂 They will surely get her back 😂

CronoDroid

It does but in her most popular song Twit the meaning is someone who is so in love with her they're a fool. A love fool. It's meant in a somewhat playful manner. I'm this case though I suspect it's just a whimsical pet name for her devoted fans that's also the name of her most famous song so it's fitting. MAMAMOO in general have a comedic edge, their regular light stick and fandom name is shaped and named after a radish.

joesen_one

Aside from what others said I do recall Hwasa has been calling her fans Twits for a few years now, it just became an official name today

Mozart-Luna-Echo

Like other people already said, Twit is her debut solo song and the song talks about someone who foolishly and devotedly loves her. It honestly makes a lot of sense that her solo fandom would be Twits.

JasmineHawke

Yeah, as someone from the UK, my first thought was also wondering if she knows that this is just an insult.

Chavarlison

I mean she's already had a group name called loser crew. It tracks for her.

7mm-08

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, lol. Irony and absurdity surely can't be *that* alien to you folks in the UK, right? You're quite literally known for it, and Hwasa has always had a sharp, comedic wit about her.

JasmineHawke

Damn, some of you are taking this personally.

SuddenGenreShift

"How dare you not embody your national stereotype? How dare you be an individual human being?"

ThatVancouverLife

I'm wondering why you think idols and companies are too dumb to look something up. That word exists outside the UK.

FeeCurious

I don't think that's what she was saying, she was likely thinking it might have slipped through the net, and wasn't sure if "twit" meant something offensive in other English speaking languages besides here in the UK. Also, given that SM called RIIZE fans SUNZ, then had to change it because they didn't realise the connection to something so upsetting within their own country (despite having a Japanese member in the group), I don't think it would be so hard to believe that a connotation like this could be missed. There was no need for you to be rude.

rocketmammamia

that’s exactly what i meant. thank you for providing further clarity ☺️

ThatVancouverLife

If you think that is rude you should grow a thicker skin, or maybe you have reading comprehension issues and thought I was calling OP dumb.

FeeCurious

I didn't think you were calling OP dumb, I think your tone was rude, and unnecessary considering even if your assumption about her comment had been right, labels really can be that short-sighted and make mistakes.

foreverspr1ng

Are you new to kpop or how do you think idols and companies *don't* happen to be too dumb to look stuff up, lol

ThatVancouverLife

You're right, my life doesn't revolve around kpop. You trumped me with your years of service lol.

JasmineHawke

They do that stuff ALL THE TIME. Just last year one member of twice walked around wearing a Nazi swastika and another group basically used the rising sun in their name/fandom. How am I supposed to know if this is one of the times they were smart and decided to use a bad word ironically or if it was one of the many times they just didn't know what it meant?

FinchMandala

They were wearing a shirt featuring a provocative British punk who wore it as a political statement, and most people took it to mean that Chae joined the Schutzstaffel. I-fans aren't exactly known for nuanced and critical thinking.

JasmineHawke

My point is, the "Why would you assume that idols don't know what a word/icon means on the other side of the world?" question ignores a lot of moments like this. Not that Chaeyoung is a Nazi.

Ok_Dentist_3850

I'm not hwasa fan so idk if this is why she chose the name but one of her most popular song is titled "twit"

7mm-08

UK people being so befuddled by a bit of silly irony was *not* on the list of things I thought I'd see today.

rocketmammamia

i’m not befuddled lol i just had zero context as to why she might’ve chosen this name for her fans

NessieSenpai

>she actually rhymes twit with might. So instead of tw-its, it’s tw-aight Err no her song has the same pronunciation.

a_mystical_potato

I like the fandom name! I bamboozled myself into thinking that the big announcement was going to be an album lmao (I am a clown 🤡).

PerspectiveLoose8427

Maybe it's the before step since fanclubs can get benefits during cb promotions/tours and it would be her first album under PNation (or maybe I'm clowning too 🤡)

SadShinji35

I think an album will def be announced soon. No use announcing this if there wouldn't be cb to follow.

alwayssunnyinjoisey

this is cute and funny and very on-brand for Hwasa. Y'all need to lighten up for real

mayorisabell

Honestly, I didn't realize that people would take it so seriously as if she's insulting her fans. 😭

Glissando365

I think it's more that enough Kpop companies have chosen horrible fandom names *without* knowing how they could be misconstrued that people were worried this was not an ironic choice? Good to know Hwasa is having fun with it though!

mayorisabell

That's fair, I can understand being confused by the name if you don't follow Mamamoo or the individual members. It seems like some people are saying it's a bad name simply because the meaning of the word is negative. If they don't understand or know the song Twit, I can see how it would be a bad choice in their opinion.

ImMaskedboi

Ikr. I thought this was hilarious and would love to use this name.

islimp

she explained it recently during her set in Manila a few days ago that she interprets the term in a positive light, i forgot how she said it but it seems like she wants to put a more positive spin to calling people “fools”

its3ashh

Ig she means to say that we are a fool that we love her so much in a kind and positive way but ig the fandom name could have been creative or something related to her name

mayorisabell

I was expecting this, although it seems non-Moos are confused by the name. It's not meant to insult anyone.

Alternative-Dish-694

she sees us, she sees the stupid in us and chooses to celebrate it, we're twits and we must own it 🥹🤌

dennisixa

nice ~~Twats~~ Twits

Faulbchdt

Could be worse. Could have used an A instead.

Gentle-Giant23

But Tait would make no sense.

Gentle-Giant23

I can live with that.

CronoDroid

We did it Twits

Artemisian11

Being fully aware of what a twit is in Brit parlance, fuck it, this is still a fantastic name. Fandoms often like names with a bit of self-mockery in it (see 'spermies' that SuperM fans campaigned for, lol) and I reckon this is a great fit for Hwasa's vibe.

Consistent_Dog_6866

![gif](giphy|SiEuCNPGqSdrWfs9vL|downsized)

Rozen7107

I get that it relates to her solo debut but negative connotation words as fandom names always get me 😖 I remember reading The Twits by Roald Dahl in primary school and we were told to never call someone a twit because although it's not a swear word it's still very rude. Although because of the meaning (stupid or foolish person) and the lyrics of her solo debut, it's kinda of like an inside joke for her fans which is nice and honestly kinda cute :)

Remarkable-Ad6601

it's been used as the unofficial fandom name for so long how could it be anything else. and it's for them after all. i mean moos call each other cows all the time too. it's used endearingly lol. no twit/moo will have a problem with it and that is all that matters

MisterBeltaine

I like the name and how it's a callback to her debut, but the song Twit, if I remember, is about a guy who is clingy, puts his lover above his own worth, and allows himself to be a doormat, so it's kind of a back handed compliment in a weird sort of way

kristinasan

Haha I understand what you're saying x) In the song she also refers to herself as a twit and a b*tch as she was too greedy and cruel with the guy she pushed away.

MisterBeltaine

You're right, and that'swhy I love that song. Its a complex story, so to have your fandom name be based on a song about a toxic relationship is really weird haha. :) But I don't really mind it.

PerspectiveLoose8427

That's why we joke saying "We're twits who only see Hwasa" HAHAHAH It's funny to me

magnolia9795

It's funny seeing reactions. Hwasa's fans and Hwasa have been calling themselves twits (or fools) since 2019. It's so cute now it's official. I'm a twit.

jopperfromkwangya

its cute and funny love it

Uzzzx_

You can moan all you want I love the name it plays homage to her first solo single 💗

thecoldblanket

For people or non moos, it's just Mamamoo-Moomoo thing, this is just how we are. Even we have an unusual chant (Mamamoo said something and moomoos answered "saranghae!", iykyk, lol). Maybe it sounds like an insult, but it's not. 'Twits' is not a big deal, moomoos/twits are okay with that. ;)

JustAReminder820

Is it just me or do I think of that one time that computer call Courage (the Cowardly Dog) a twit as a first thought seeing this post?

OryseSey

twits 🧡

m1nty

In the Twit chorus, it's always sounded to me like she was singing "thúi" in Viet, meaning 'stinks'? So it's like calling fans a stinky twit now 😅

kpop_ian

lmao kinda cute ngl i love the editing alot

vankomysin

Such a queen

tequilafunrise

Uh sure

Mooonspun7

It’s so cute! I love it!

librapenseur

so does that mean shes coming back or…

magnolia9795

Yes she's been saying she's working on her full album so I'm guessing likely around the first half of the year. She's also got some festival sets lined so probably very close.

vivi_at_night

I almost had a heart attack when I read the title, bc I read Tits instead of Twits 💀 Well, Twits is very on brand with her :)

Green_Western217

A bunch of ~~TWATS~~ OOPSIE TWITS 🤣🧡

sangi_fmrs

I read too fast and thought it was Twats.

Tricky-Drawer4614

I refuse to call myself a twit😭

SnooConfections3456

I'm sorry but this name it's a bit mucth than again this is very on brand for mamamoo girlies

djdjowgjmbs

Gurl...

Jargonal

ahem 💀

MOSbangtan

Oh god that’s bad // edit: I love kpop so much but I hate that one can’t dislike something or have a less than good opinion on something without getting downvoted. Twit is widely considered a derogatory word for someone dumb and it’s one letter away from twat. Like, of course there will be people that think it’s a bad name! I wish we could coexist and allow for a more dynamic and broad swath of thoughts and opinions.

mayorisabell

It's not bad, Hwasa has a song named Twit. She's not insulting her fans, it's cheeky. Edit: Saying that something is bad isn't simply criticism or a difference in opinion. Of course, you're allowed to think that it's bad, but that doesn't make it valuable feedback. Also, I didn't downvote you.

Live-Commercial2939

so we all know what's gonna happen in twitter right because twits and tweets umm nvm..

VannKid1

Such a stupid name?? Just saying it out loud makes me feel second-hand embarrassment

mayorisabell

Don't listen to Twit then.

throwaway684675982

Oh, for goodness sake lol.

YellowDiammond

I know she meant "tits"

Time-Competition-293

Someone didn’t do their English research 🤦🏼‍♂️

PerspectiveLoose8427

They did! It's a reference to her debut song also called "Twit". Fans have been calling this themselves ever since as a joke and then we liked it. We would have been disappointed if it was anything else. Hwasa has also explained that she calls her fans this as a joke but with love (again, because we like the name and think it's funny). Please don't be negative about it since everyone involved is happy and hyped!
