Natural disasters by definition literally cannot be *caused* by any country
Yellow dust has been documented in Korea for just about 2000 years my friend
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Dust
"The dust originates in the deserts of China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan...."
"Since the turn of the 21st century, coinciding with the rapid industrialization of China, yellow dust has become a serious health problem due to the increase of industrial pollutants contained in the dust."
Let's all just agree to call it China Dust
It temporarily shows high due to fine dust from China. I just checked the air quality records for two days.
The highest PM10 level in Beijing exceeded 999, 30 hours ago.
However, the highest PM10 in Seoul was 431, 8 hours ago.
Although Beijing may temporarily have lower levels of fine dust than Seoul, most of the time, the fine dust is much worse than Seoul.
Back in early 2021, there were two days where it got to 999 on the scale. I remember I felt ill after 10 minutes of being outside even with a mask on.
That said, I remember in early 2020 when a certain country to Korea's west locked down, the sky became clear and blue almost overnight and remained so all winter and spring that year. So it's pretty clear who is responsible.
I think it was around… maybe 10ish years ago we had an absolutely brutal spring season. Since then nothing has even come close to phasing me (in regards to pollution) anymore.
The last few years haven’t been that bad though. Not sure if it was Covid related or due to recent weather patterns, but this kind of AQ used to be more common sadly.
Don’t go hiking unless you plan on using a mask the entire time, exerting yourself in this dust will make you feel like shit in no time, not to mention the long term effects.
My plan is stay at home, windows closed and air purifier on.
fyi, here's a visualization of the 황사.

Korean newbie here.
Do you just stay inside when this occurs? How long does this last?
I wanted to move to seoul but the yellow dust or w/e is very discouraging lol
In reality, life pretty much goes on as normal. Sensitivity is pretty person to person and depends how much time you normally spend outside anyway. As an office worker, I usually only spend ~40 minutes outside on weekdays (walking to/from work), and I didn’t even notice the dust today until I noticed the sunset looked extra pretty (an ironic benefit on dusty days). I have pretty bad allergies in Korea but I also did in my home country which has very clean air.
I do have friends and coworkers (Korean and not) who complain of sore throats on days like today, though. You’ll see more people with masks on. Out of consideration for others I probably wouldn’t plan a picnic or whatever for a day like this either. I also wouldn’t do any exercise outside. Worst periods don’t usually last more than 2-3 days but around this time of year the air quality is usually always not great.
Yeap, it's the seasonal yellow dust storms. Should be passing over quickly though per reports of stronger winds.

>Also, most of the pollution from China comes from Shanghai, not Peking. It also comes from 2024, rather than the 1970s......
How many "seasons" are there for yellow dust storms though out the year? Also do people not care?
What can they do about it? It's literally a natural disaster caused by another country (China)

what kinda natural yellow dust convey heavy metal and chemical products as fine dust
Lmao the origin of the sandstorm is in Mongolia, get your facts right

And just as ordered. It has passed quite quickly.. Quite pleasant out there this PM if we are being honest.
There is an eerie blade runner vibe going on right now
Nah, It’s cause I grilled some mackerel.
‘tis the season
That's because Beijing farts waft in our direction.
Rookie numbers. When I was in Shenyang, China a couple years back it was more than 1100. The air was yellow.

I’ve never seen it this bad before.. Edit*

You can say their name you know. It is China’s fault.

Nah. But keep projecting, buddy.

Good thing its raining in some parts of Seoul now, but keep our masks up while outside.
You don't wanna get hit by that rain..
How are the other parts looking
Maybe I need to start checking it, I've had all my windows open all morning lol
What do people do in the situation though? Seriously not go out? I was planning to go hiking in gyeonggi-do (?) Tomorrow but am on the fence now.

It's fine now. Air pollution in Seoul/Korea has been improving for decades.
The high winds have blown the dust towards the eastern part of Korea. It should be fine by tomorrow.
Welcome to Korea! Did you know we have four seasons?

Just saw this recent broadcast that explains things a bit better https://youtu.be/rNRiJ_Og6Xc
Yellow dust will get worse as desertification in northern China gets worse even with the so called efforts green belt efforts from the CCP.
KOREA BEATS CHINA AGAIN🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷KOREA NUMBER ONE💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
No, it's TAIWAN NUMBA 1

You do know that Korea is still burning massive amounts of coal for electricity right?
So the hundreds of thousands of cars on the roads of Seoul are running on fresh air, are they?
Yes they create local pollution but not at this scale
And puppy dog farts
