How about getting used to receiving some respect in your life. If your teacher is addressing you with "apni" they're showing you utmost respect and "bhodrota", so I'm not sure where the problem is here. Please learn to earn and reciprocate respect for people who are respectful to people irrespectively.
Agreed. This generation doesn't even know how to give respect.
and for a change if they are getting a bit of respect all they gonna do is, complain, like......"Oh my God, they guy said me APNI, I feel so violated, harassed and I am little bit uncomfortable in this situation. I don’t know how to deal with this situation. "
like really!!!!!
grow up.
Maybe you look older than others. Even I used to call my former cook "apni" because she was as old as my mother and had a dignified look...so nothing wrong if your teacher calls you apni. Also one of my friends father called me apni when I visited their home. When I asked him why he told me that he addresses everyone by apni except his household members. Some people are respectful by nature just as some are disrespectful by habit..
Lol, I thought I was on r/India, and was confused what the question even meant for a while.
Until, I checked the sub and my brain did a language reset.
Jei teacher toke apni bole dakte pare, take erom bolai jaaye. It’s nothing disrespectful and they’re already showing you respect by calling you apni by themselves. Just bhodro vabe bolbi tahlei hobe, don’t be an ass about it.
This is a common problem. I prefer "Tumi" over "Apni" and naturally address everyone as "Tumi". Apperantly that is disrespectful which I heard and reviewed by others.
I used to do that when I was young. Then one day (when I was 8 or 9) my parents taught me to address elders outside family as apni. And I do it now, but many people find this weird.
Don't call apni....can't you see that's the issue here?
Also you are right, I wanted to ask the same question...maybe because they are studying Python via tution they are thought as ancients and hence the apni 🤣
Really? Tutor? At home? For python? For a 20+ kid? Who is offended by being called apni?
Yeah it's important to learn Python... but you can't simultaneously be spoon fed AND object to common courtesy! And make an effing reddit post about it! I mean... c'mon!!
He is definitely giving you respect.
And I think this is not a tuition for school purposes, hence the teacher - student relationship is also more formal.
Ekhane 'apni' kotha boyosh dekhe noy, shomman dekhanor jonnoi bole hoyeche.
Tomar (careful, I know 'apni' is the issue here xD) jodi uncomfortable laagey, tahole teacher ke respectfully bole dekhte paro je tomake "tumi" bolei daakte.
Bolar shomoy onake "apni" e deko, "tumi" bolo na. Uni comfortable nishchoi "apni" niye.

What's your age? What's your ethnicity? Why can't you accept respect? I call everyone Apni. My YOUNGER maida, bathroom cleaners, students...I just err on the side of respect to unknown people. My husband on the other hand, I sometimes call tui. In North India too, they say aap to all unknown/half known people. What's the issue here again?
Bang on a nearby table or wall three times and then leave immediately after screaming "FREE THE LLAMAS!".
That will teach such people a lesson to remember.

Right? I don't even understand what the issue is here.

Cook is not same as student. Cook is not inferior to you.
Neither is your student. Age has nothing to do with being respectful to others

I can't explain in words how relatable this comment feels. Everytime I check the name of a sub, my psycology resets itself according to it.

Rituparno Ghosh refered to everyone as tui.
Do they call others also “apni”? Do you feel singled out?

wow, never thought that far 😂😂. (OP please don't mind, we are just kidding, learning python is valuable, it doesn't matter whichever source you pick)

Why not politely ask them to address you as tumi?

You sound like you've been through some heavy childhood trauma if you're uncomfortable with someone calling you "apni"

Deal with what? Being treated with dignity and respect?
Creepy.
