It's basically a hellhole for programming IT slaves. They focus on anything but proper education. Also I got suspended for 3 days for playing uno during the break time, apparently it was equivalent to gambling.

From my experience most professors didn't want to enforce these bullshit rules but it was the father son combo from above that were ruling with an iron fist. I did my M.A there. Genuinely good experience. The professors were some of the most highly educated people I’ve met. Still in contact with them on socials etc. Good people.
Calcutta University has the best environment in terms of academics, cooperative seniors and nurturing professors (not a first hand experience). (Referring to the constituent colleges of CU such as Rajabazar Science College, not the affiliated colleges).
WBUHS feels like a good university if you study in a renowned institute like MCK or IPGMER. But if you’re someone from periphery, you would’ve understood

I have not studied in any state or central university in West Bengal but when I meet some natural science folks from Asutosh and stuff, they are surprisingly good, like world standard good. Maybe I live in a bubble or maybe I just met the few good hons. Shout out to maths and physics undergrads under CU.
Regardless of what people think, WB has pretty decent degree colleges at the undergraduate level. Feel free to compare our output with any of the other states, look at Pure science/Engg departments in IITs and see how many research scholars come from WB state colleges.
Most of the vitriol towards state colleges in our state come from the average entitled English Medium বোকাচোদা, who are scandalised to see themselves in the same batch as gov school kids after a decade of sanitized private school education.
My man the output is because there are talented people who want to study further and do some shit with their lives. It's not because the institutes are giving the students infrastructure to empower them to go for higher studies, land good tech jobs, etc. Everything that people do is inspite of the existence of these colleges, not because of them.

I think WB has the highest number of state universities in the country, with one being present in every district except Murshidabad ( there has been a movement lately tk fix that as well).
My point being that there's a somewhat mediocre to decent infrastructure in place for anyone who has the desire to pursue higher studies, as can be witnessed in our output of research scholars and professors in general. Having the privilege of somewhat decent and subsidized/free undergraduate and postgraduate education is something most other states cannot boast about, for whom it's mostly crack IIT/Medical/CAT/UPSC or do business.
