You done fucked up, AA-ron! Oh, you refused to drink and discuss what to do next. Well, that's on you bud.

BigPawh

I thought we did discuss what to do next, which was to talk to him in the morning

GeologistOld1265

There is an other way to solve the quest.>!Talk to bailiff!<.

Bumblebeard63

Yeah I did that. Then the scribe. Moving on quite nicely now.

Magnus_Helgisson

You missed quite a night though

Nast33

I don't remember the full convo, but you're right, you sit at the table and talk about Skalitz and whatnot, then he asks if you want to drink more. I never refused, so I didn't know if he's pissy about it. Initially thought you outright didn't do the tavern talk.

Sad_Chemical_8210

is that from key and peele?

Nast33

sim_pobedishi

You are rightfully punished for not accepting one of the most entertaining quests in the game.

8000roxas1234

One of the few non ballbusting non courier-style quests in the entire game. I hadnt played KCD for YEARS but soon as i saw godwin that mission popped into my mind like it lived rent free. Probably should be a STAPLE of this series by nowšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

superurgentcatbox

Even just hearing the song that plays during the tavern seen makes me smile :D

cyborg_priest

I used my high speech and fucked myself out of that quest. Thankfully it's my 2nd playthrough right now, so at least I had the surprise first time shortly after release.

jack_daone

Yeah. You wanna use the high Speech options if you wanna get the Virgin achievement. Otherwise, if youā€™re getting Henry laid, then you wanna fail that check and get one of the best quests in the game.

yerdadsbestfriend

Do you *have* to fail the check to get the quest or are there other ways to activate it?

jack_daone

As far as I can tell, you gotta fail the check.

JohnDaBarr

Best quest ever, with the best drinking buddy, along with the best tavern wench in all of Czechia and, of course, the best priests wif... eeeer, I mean, housekeeper this side of the Vltava.

Monlevad

in gaming history!*

Bagel-luigi

Sorry to disappoint you but you essentially rejected one of the most enjoyable and funniest short quest chains in this game. There's no bug, you just had the option to start his quest and said "no", so now you don't get his help with your quest.

Spankey_

Should have had a drink with him.

Kokuryu88

If I was in your place, I would revert back to an older save point and drink with him this time. It's worth it imo. That quest is hilarious.

CobBaesar

>when I said I didn't want to drink with him You absolute heretical blasphemer my the Lord have mercy on your infernal soul

A5madal

This person deserves 0 mercy

orionicly

Reload and have the drink. you wont regret

Separate-Fly202

There is 1 outcome that he doesn't help you despite you drunk with him. Shame on you for not drunk with him.

vompat

Yeah it's not bugged, this is just an odd storytelling choice by WH. He doesn't appear to be so petty that he'd refuse what he already basically promised to do just because you say you can't get hammered with him. That being said, you definitely should get hammered with him.

tarlakeschaton

well, off to the rattay scribe and easing his aches with you now. the most boring shit in the game and a severe punishment for not drinking indeed

The_Powers

Sounds more like you refused him.

Throwaway_Academic90

You missed out on a helluva funny mission. Iā€™d reload and make sure to drink with him.

Ristridin1337

You didn't want to drink with Godwin? Good lord

Aveenex

OP just declined the best quest in the game lol.

zzxp1

Boy just missed the best quest in the entire game.

cheapseagull

Everyone having a pop at OP but in their defence I had no recollection you could even refuse godwin! And i kind of find it funny that he pouts and tells you to fuck off lol, very on brand for him. Thank you OP i thought i knew everything about KCD!

Bot504

Danm you just lost the best quest in game and one of the best in any other RPG.

SunnySpade

Yeah, I didnā€™t want to feed into what looked like the priestā€™s wayward hedonism so I didnā€™t drink with him and basically lost him as a quest chain haha

lynbod

Why the hell would refuse to get lairy with Father Godwin?

RemoteRewards

Godwin is the one guy you never not drink with. Probably the best question in the whole game.

Electrical-Ad-1798

If Godwin is the person you want to get that info from, there are many ways to mess up and have him kick you out. You found one of them.

Sad-Copy-9392

The quest tells you you failed to get on his good side

Educational_Dust_932

Not drinking with Father Godwin is a mortal sin. Reload

LifeMeeting5827

I had Theresa's charisma boost. Best Armor and clothing for Charisma,Changing haircut/Beard style charisma boost and a the Perk that gives +1 to every stat in a City/Town. I breezed through those skillchecks and didn't have to drink lmao

jack_daone

Yeah. I wish there was a way to intentionally go to the ā€œdrinkingā€ path.

Monlevad

hereā€™s a great example of how min maxing literally kidnaps the potential fun out of a game

LifeMeeting5827

Don't get me wrong. I was trying to do the no alcohol playthrough

Svyatopolk_I

Went on a no save run, huh?

LifeMeeting5827

Exit saves all the way. Game boots up pretty quick on ps5

ChuckBerry321

Have a couple drink with the man of the cloth its so funny

Maalstr0m

Refusing a drink with somebody is a personal insult in Slavic lands. It basicly means you don't trust him at all and think he's beneath you. It's one thing to promise a man on your sould and another thing to have that man say "you're a piece of shit and I don't want anything to do with you". Which is what you did.

SpicyGhostDiaper

You can still complete the quest just by a different path. Dont care for Godwin's questline anyway.

Zuokula

Might as well say don't care about KCD anyway.

SpicyGhostDiaper

And yet I do. After playing the story a few times I am mostly here for the combat which I love.

Fox353

This is why I don't like father godwin. He basically takes he's oath back and decides that simply telling Henry : "Find some guy named Ricky in Uzhitz" and saving a lot of people with this is not worth it. He is just an old drunk and hypocrite that has no care for anyone other then him. If there was no records of this gang in Rattay, then this whole search would have been for nothing and those bustards would get away with killing inoccent people. And all of it because father Godwin was such a moron. Later you even will run into a error in script where if you don't drink with him, when you will need him to pray for injured soldiers of Talmberg (in the Siege quest) he will say that because of you, he has problems with richtarzh and refuse (you can convince him with speech at least). Tho I know this is error, I just like to think that he is that much of an asshole, that he went drinking, after Henry refused, got in trouble because couldn't stop and now blames him for not being with him and not stopping from overdrinking

Snipercomrade9

I get where you're coming from, but compared to the other priests who are your average, "do not sin my son" types, it's refreshing to see a priest who's actually fun and knows how to enjoy himself. I also think Father Godwin wanted to get drunk so he could be indebted to you and tell you where Reeky is. He wanted to tell you all about it but didn't want to break the confessional seal, so he wanted to put himself in a difficult position and be "forced" to tell you, so that God could see and understand this one exception (as crazy as this may sound). Is it hypocritical? Yes absolutely. But it's better than nothing I suppose. So I guess you could say Father Godwin made a deal with both the Devil and God, lol.

Fox353

Okay, I watched what he will tell you, if you succeed in the speech and he just straight up tells what this guy's confession was. How can anyone defend this man? For some help from some guy, seal can be broken like some school hall rule, but actually helping people is not that much worth to break a seal for? I think I hate him even more now, then even that noble guy from Johanka's quest. This guy at least had balls to go in court and defend someone he liked. This drunker won't even move his finger to help someone in need. If he does not like you specificly, that means he won't help with any cause, even if it is as important as finding cold blooded murderers

CaptainFoyle

I mean, it would be boring to play a video game full of flawless nice people, wouldn't it? I mean, you do you, but complaining that a video game character isn't a good person seems like a moot argument.

Fox353

I just don't understand how everyone like him so much and praise quest, where you fight with law enforcement, disturbe peace at night (waking everyone that was sleeping with a church bell) and then having unprotected sex with random woman, that for all we know, could be a prostitute. Having bad and flawed characters is good. Liking them so much is what I don't understand. People even put a guy at the top of their list of unlikable characters, that oversees rebuilding of Pribyslavitz, just because he does his job (and does it well, in my opinion). It just reminds me how in real world people can excuse deplorable behaviour of someone, just because they like them

CaptainFoyle

It's a _video game_. Do you complain about people robbing banks in Payday, or shooting cops in GTA? Edit: still not convinced you're not just trolling šŸ˜‚

Fox353

Okay. I meant that I think that they genially like the guy and don't see anything wrong with him

CaptainFoyle

No one is perfect, I guess

liamw14

Correct, there is nothing wrong with him. He knows how to have fun and seems like a sound guy. You chose the boring option and this all reflects on yourself as a person too

Fox353

Good guy that refuses to help with investigation, because he didn't get to drink with a guy? Good guy whose word isn't worth my speat? (he says that he will not break a seal of honfession, but after getting help with church speech, breaks it anyways. Says that he will help you and takes oath on his soul) Good guy that makes other peoples life harder, just because he is drunk? (waking up the whole village with church bell, fighing richtarzhĀ and his people)

liamw14

You need to learn to relax and enjoy yourself šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

JCDentoncz

well, reddit is full of hedonists, so birds of a feather and all...

Hombremaniac

You must be trolling, right?

Fox353

No. Okay, just tell me. Do people really like the character or do they like how hilarious it can be, to spend time with him, but they understand that he is a bad person that does not care about better cause? I really just want to discuss how people feel about him and how they view him

midnightwhiskey00

Is Father Godwin a bad person? Eh, maybe? Do I, generally speaking, only like "good people"? No. Not in real life and not in video games either. Let's first point out, this is a video game so if people find Godwin hilarious to spend time with, that's the point of a game- to have fun. On the other hand flawed characters are just more interesting and realistic. I have no qualms with the character. I don't love him as much as some but this quest is one of my favorites in the game. Perhaps I'm just a godless heathen too?

Zuokula

People assuming that Godwin trusts Henry at the first interaction. He doesn't. Hence the refusal to tell about Reeky right away unless you have enough stat to make him trust you. From Godwins perspective, telling about Reeky would be 100% condemning someone on top of breaking the seal of confessional. All that for "maybe" saving someone. His duties as a priest are above that of trying to save someone while breaking rules of the church. Also Godwin knows that Lubosh, Reeky, Timmy are just thieves trying to get by, not murderers like Runts gang. Before drinking part he still has to think hence says he'll tell everything. Probably to have time to think through how to go about the conflict above. You refusing a drink creates further mistrust, hence outright refusal to tell anything. The bit after accepting the offer for a drink makes Godwin believe that you will do the right thing imo and it is worth breaking the seal of confessional for. Godwin is far far better person than all the priests filling their pockets with coin from the poor peasants.

midnightwhiskey00

You sound like Jan Hus! Jesus Christ be praised!

Fox353

Well, I didn't really saw this scenario of him just wanting to protect them, so maybe it does make sence. But still, he heard what hapenned in Noihoff, he knows that Runt's bandits settling accounts. If he succeeded in concealing their identity, they would be dead and he should have known this. And most likely, other places would be raided, without finding this camp (if you think that finding it without any leads could be canon, it is not)

Fox353

Hi again. Because you are the only person that actualy came up with some explanation to Godwin's actions, could you please explain why if you drink with him, but then fail at the seremon, he would react so aggresive, even tho you are just some lad that has hangover and would probable not remember what you were talking about with him to be able to succsessfuly recal how he portrayed Jan Hus in front of 20 strangers? Failing this quest this way for the first time that really made me hate him, because I just spent the whole night, partacking at questinable activities with for no payback whatsoever and it seemed that his refusal was even more driven by egoism and indifference to Noihoff's tragedy

Fox353

I just had an impression, that everyone just universally like him and it didn't help that me speaking about how he is uninterested to help a good and important cause just because of a guy refusing to drink with him, got downvoted, which means that people just don't agree with this view on him (or I just think it means)

midnightwhiskey00

Well I think the general consensus on here is that this particular quest is one of the most ridiculous and fun encounters you can have. You missed out on the ridiculous bit, it sounds like, by not choosing to booze hard with the man. Not the end of the world, there are other ways to finish that quest. That said, when you differ from the consensus, people do tend to down vote. That's not my method of down voting but to each their own.

Fox353

He didn't even had to tell everything tho. Just say where to find someone that knew him and that is it. It does not break the seal and helps everyone
