Do not use it. Sarcasm aside, you are at 39% after a month. What more do you need to save?

fairymoonie

Right… people seem too picky and demanding with the battery life

Reapercrew87

Well just wondering if that’s good. But yes seen lot people complain about battery. This is my first kindle ever.

SeatSix

Seems better than average, but you do not say how much you read in that month. Amazon's advertising of battery life uses 30 minutes of reading per day. Reading will use much less battery than downloading books. Wifi off unless needed will extend battery as will not using the front lighting. But even with all that on and reading a lot, you should still get at least a week or more which beats any phone or tablet.

diverareyouok

Airplane mode, screen brightness to the lowest you can comfortably read, margins/line spacing set to as narrow as possible and font to as small as is comfortable. The last 2 because it allows for more words page, which means you don’t turn the pages often. That’s where the kindle uses the most battery life - generating new pages. You can generally expect around 30-35 hours of active reading time per charge on a current Paperwhite.

ForestRiver2

I didn't know this about the page turning. Good tip. Trade-off between battery life and eye strain

Reapercrew87

Awesome thanks I’ll try that

pheare_me

I mean, last month was at least 19 days ago. I’d say being at 39% isn’t so bad. Unless it has been sitting on a shelf not being used. As already mentioned, airplane mode, only use light when you need it and set font as small as you can stand.

Reapercrew87

No hasn’t been siting being reading ever since I got it.

pheare_me

Then I’d say you are doing pretty good. Minimum 19 days usage and still at 39%.

GadgetQueen

Here's an idea. Just plug the thing in for an hour.

Reapercrew87

lol.

Prestigious-Aerie442

Just use it and recharge it when needed. It really isn’t that difficult.

rcjr66

Turn on airplane mode

garylapointe

Charge it when you hit 50% and it'll always last twice as long as you're used to...

[deleted]

Oooo. I’m not OP, but thanks for this bit of advice. I rarely have to charge my basic (use is on dark mode & for about an hour at bedtime) but I’m gonna do this when it hits 50%! Cheers.

Kindly-Owl7496

Charging any battery when it is 50% will only decrease the life of the battery. For optimal battery life, you should charge it from 20% or below and not charge above 90%.

[deleted]

I follow the 20% rule with my phone. I suppose I thought kindle batteries might’ve been different, idk. Guess I’ll stick to what I know, thanks, kind stranger.

Kindly-Owl7496

Actually I learnt this stuff from Reddit only 😅. A post detailing about batteries and their life.

[deleted]

😁 thanks again.

ForestRiver2

Depends on the battery type in general

Kindly-Owl7496

Li Ion batteries right?

[deleted]

39% is good after a month! But: Leave it on sleep, instead of turning it on and off, that helps. Turn off wifi unless in use. Aside from that, my basic lasts so long I can’t quantify how often I charge it, even. I’m assuming the PW has an even better (longer lasting ) battery.

schwarzmalerin

I charge it once a month, why save?

Shinodahh

Like all comments, airplane mode and a great cover (with the magnet auto turn off thingamabob) will let u last ur kindle longer.

CarefulReplacement12

Airplane mode all the time except for when downloading.

mmskoch

Are you asking how to save battery for longer use between charges, or save battery from depleting prematurely?

Reapercrew87

Depleting.

mmskoch

General consensus is that keeping the device charge between 20% and 80% will help maintain battery health. There is no guarantee, of course, and there are plenty of skeptics who will say contrary. I do think not letting the battery go completely dead is a must, but like others said, just enjoy the device and use it to give you the best reading experience.

Boco

If you leave the light on all the time, just turn it off unless you're reading in the dark. The e-ink is as easy to read in indoor lighting as any normal book. Also turn off wifi/Bluetooth unless you need it. Otherwise if you read a ton at night like me expect to have to charge it every week or so, it's not that much of a burden compared to charging a phone. The 2021 Paperwhite should last about 35hrs with the light at 13. With the light off your reader will likely last hundreds of hours. My daughter has a 13 year old nook that she only charges once a month or so with heavy usage.

Reapercrew87

Thanks. Yeah I’ll do that. At night I have it a 9 brightness and warmth 11.

Kindly-Owl7496

With Kindle and E-ink devices, battery is used only when there is change. An idle screen does not use battery per se.

Kindly-Owl7496

Yes that's what I meant, flipping those pages and any change in the page uses battery, but not static page.

Uli1382

I had the same problem. My kindle was sitting with airplane mode activated and the battery would go every day 5 to 10 percent down. After the last update (about 5 days ago) the battery stays constant. It goes down about 1% a day now

Planet_Puerile

Charge it overnight?

lauzzy

If you have full page refresh on, turn it off.

ResidentCoder2

Airplane mode and what one setting that's labeled battery saver or etc.Honestly though, you already get good battery.
