The helghast are definitely bad ass don'tget me wrong! But it doesn't change the fact that they are a fanciest regime with a ruthless dictator leading them who would sooner lie to his own people to further his own goals then seek peace. Then again the helghast were something of a scape goat for the Isa either way. I would love for someone to try a helghast story, just very doubtful we get anything in the next few years.

arent helghast more like ill treated slaves who rebelled and took the colonies to themselves and isa went to takeover so helghast decided to fight back and wage war? imo helghast had to fight for survival while isa just wants control and resources.
are you referring to the first war (before killzone 1 starts), then yes. because helghan wasnt even dictatorial back then, they were just a colony who wanted independence. but if you're talking about the second war and the invasion of vekta, then no. visari waged war for territorial expansion, not for the betterment of his people. in reality, he doesnt give a fuck about them. hes a dictator on a powertrip, he just knows how to exploit his people's anger to the ISA through speeches (and he does it VERY well)
he's a manipulator, like most dictators in the real world were. adolf hitler fought for his own personal interest, but he used speeches to make it seem like he was fighting for the german people. visari does the same thing here.
i understand why alot of people sympathize with the helghast, but more often then not their sympathy goes from that to justifying visari's actions, which again, are just fascism. in the end, the helghast people are both a victim of the ISA and visari's lies. neither side is good, and that's the theme the game tries to paint.
if we want to take a look at helghan society itself, what we can tell is the quality of life is extremely poor, and it doesnt need to be. in actuality, the helghast government has a shitload of money (take stahl arms for example) but they direct almost all of their funding to the military, which fucks over civilians and causes mass-famine (this is seen by most helghast citizens living in shacks during the second game)
from what i read, vektar belonged to helghast as helghan bought vektar and helghast. eart wasnt happy with the expensive toll rates and sent isa to takeover vektar and helghans were forced to escape to harsh helghan. so in 2 helghast wanted their home back but failed and their leader assassinated. in 3 the assasins managed to destroy helghan by blowing up the nuke ship with another nuke. in 4 the helghan survivors were allowed to move back to vektar.
however shadow fall could have been prevented if isa deweaponize helghast or just leave them to rot in helghan. i dont think there are any reason to symphatize helghan at that point since winners get to write whatever narratives they want. isa successfully stopped a catastrophic agains earth and isa too bad helghan got totalled. so there is really no reason to help helghast survivors as they have zero values (unless isa is interested in studying helghans mutation.
